Ah how sad. You want to root for Neville but at the same time you're like "Uh, duh! Her and Harry are meant to be!" lol Poor Neville. I hope he finds happiness.

| Amazing! Of all the "druthers" in Ginny,s life,if there was to be no Harry,I also would choose Neville.He is a calm,stoic,gentle soul,and so deserving of the perfect girl.This was so sweetly done. "Unrequieted Love".So sad but lovely. |

It did seem a bit odd to me, though, that Ginny didn't realize how Neville felt about her. She's a perceptive person, but even aside from that, the boy named a rose after her! He might as well have just walked around wearing an "I Heart Ginny" t-shirt and ringing a bell. Or maybe she did know, and I'm just too thick to pick up on it. 
Other than that, it was wonderful. Both Neville and Ginny seemed really in character to me (except, of course, Ginny's cluelessness about Neville's feelings). And that part about Harry's deep, masculine voice... yummy. |

you so much for your thoughtful review! I love Neville too. You
raise a good argument, though as I see it Ginny realizes how Neville
feels about her but is too kind-hearted to encourage him (lead him on)
or shut him out of her life. She may be idealistic in that regard,
trying to have the best of both worlds, but I can't say I'd blame her
-- in her shoes, I'd have trouble choosing between Harry and Neville
myself.

| This is a very nice piece, but the picture you paint of Neville seems a bit unkind. He is sweet here, but -- I don't know -- is maybe too successful a wallflower here? I've always thought pretty well of Neville, and he seems, in canon, to show promise of shaking off his awkwardness. Reading this, I found little substance to him, and that seems so sad. |

I suppose I can't expect to hit all of them out of the ballpark, can I? 
One of the things I find most appealing about Neville is his quiet
stoicism -- while others (coughHarrycough) resort to capslock of rage,
he endures -- and that was the quality I tried to emphasize here. It's
a different type of bravery, one where the hero doesn't always get the
girl. I doubt Harry would have held up as well if their situations were
reversed. And, I'll admit, if anyone other than Harry were Neville's
rival for Ginny's affections, I don't doubt for a moment Neville
wouldn't back down. But he seems to hold Harry in particularly high
regard, and so I think he might make this type of sacrifice -- but only
for Harry.

Oh, my. Poor Neville. I seriously almost got teary for him there! PS.net is turning me into such an emotional person, lol. Or maybe it's just your writing, which I'm a huge fan of.
I absolutely love Neville. And if I wasn't a faithful H/G shipper, N/G would probably be my next choice for Ginny. I think they're two of the most intriguing characters in canon, and I'm very interested to see where JKR takes them. I think they're both incredibly deserving of happiness.
Bittersweet, but wonderful fic. |

 . But also ...= bittersweet? But leaning to the bitter a bit more. Fabulusly written, I loved the instructor's accent "buenos dias, senor." Neville really is a great bloke, and you've done him justice.

Nice touch on the angst. Poor Neville.
I wonder though... throughout OOTP I think Neville is certainly growing
and maturing. The DA is boosting his abilities and
confidence. I would hope that the excursion on Thestral-back
would also help strengthen Neville.
What I'm saying, I guess, is that I wonder if this portrayal of Neville
is a bit on the meek side. I'd like to see him grow as a strong
character. It'd be fun to pair him up with a Slytherin -- I
bet we've all known girls in high school who were tough girls, or
tomboys, who later in life mellowed into gentle Mum's.
Hmm, I think my review has gone astray.

Good point. But I think one could argue that there are different types of strength, and that it would have taken an incredible amount of courage to do what Neville did here, and to do it with grace and class. I'll admit that the example of the Yule Ball demonstrates that Neville isn't likely to take rejection lying down. However, he does seem to hold Harry in particularly high esteem and I wonder if that might not affect how he'd respond in a situation like this. That's the beauty of fanfic -- exploring situations from different angles.
