The Promise
As I blunder through the world of Harry Potter fan fiction, it never ceases to amaze me what little gems will turn up next. That was so different! NICE ENDING.

Thank you, SunriseJuliette. The only words that are coming to me sound trite, but I feel moved to near-tears by what you shared in this story. I appreciate your sharing your wisdom so generously. Joan Glover

Geez, make me cry.

Good work. I like the happy stories interwoven with the present-day drama. Excellent story.

Coming home from the first day of school in tears because the teacher hadn't assigned homework
: how Hermione
Nice, very very nice, piece. Nice flashbacks. The only part that doesn't work is
He wouldn't be in the hospital if you'd have bothered to spend some time with him while at university
. It just doesn't make sense to think that just because she's away at university that her father isn't going to tell her he has cancer. If he was going to tell her, he would tell her whether she was living at home or at university. Perhaps she thinks that if she was at home she would have noticed it. Then that should be part of the reminiscing. I know you're trying to show her angst and guit, rational or not. But that part just doesn't seem believable to me.

Sorrow and regret. Life cannot truly be lived if these dominate the soul.

Choices are made. Paths are taken. And there are no Time-turners in life. (Not to mention Harry destroyed them all in OOTP) You depicted such a touching scene, with a father and daughter who seemed to share a great deal of memories, at the twilight of their time together. Creating such a sense of loss for one so accustomed to success, I can only fathom the turmoil inside. Especially when compounded by feelings of guilt.

You can only make do with what you have been dealt, more in point of fact, what you have created for yourself. Regret? We all live with it at one point or another. If we can just see past what we have determined to be those poor decisions of our life and look for the positive that may have come from it, the cleansing can have an overwhelming impact on one’s life. The most important thing is that when you get that chance to make the most of something, something that you know deep down really MEANS a lot to someone (they don’t have to be a loved one), you make the extra effort to help them know joy. Because you just never know when the last time was that they felt it. Maybe, they never have until you show it to them. Maybe… we never have truly known it until we experience it with them.

Anyone can say, “You’ve done so much with your life” but can they give the true assessment? The only witnesses that can testify that we did our best are ourselves and the LORD. If, at the end of the day, you can look back on what you have accomplished and the legacies you’ve left and measure it to where you were, and smile with satisfaction, then you know you did it right. Each day is a bright day because hell, there is just too much opportunity out there to do something wonderful and experience something incredible. Why would you want to miss it?

I believe that your rewards have all ready been plentiful.

~Great story.

Peace be with you.

You made me cry, and that's nearly impossible to do. This is excellent on all counts. I hope you're proud of yourself; it's breathtaking, metaphorically and literally.

Aww, definitely filled with drama!

I think you're mixing up a few things... artificial insemination is different then IVF (in-vitro fertilization). It made things a bit confusing for a minute!
