I really liked this chapter. It is a shame that Cyril is blocking Harry's access to his mentors but in a way I can see that Harry does depend on them a lot. If he were a normal teenager that would be ok but in his circumstance that might not be good all the time. I look forward to how this particular topic works out. I think it is really interesting that Ginny appears to be empathic. She can read emotions of people when she is phsically close to them. Especially Harry. I look forward to this becoming clear to Harry and others he is close to. I'm glad that Dumbledore is not willing to interfer with students contact with their friends and parents "including Harry". I think even Dumbledore thinks that Cyril is going to the extreme where Harry is concerned. The conversation that Harry and Dumbledore had about the ring, the Malfoy polyjuice and the orb sent by Voldemort. Was frustrating and enlightening. I really llike the detail and the honest waffaling that goes on in these difficult detailed discussions Harry has with various people. Thank you so much for a challenging read. I look forward to more of this story. p
Wow, this is HALF of a chapter?! Lots of great stuff in this one.
As I understood Nicolas’ lesson, the Rebirth ritual would result in Voldemort’s essence inhabiting a child’s body, finally allowing him to wield his full magical power. Rebirth implies coming back in the form of a babe, but from the parameters outlined it’s unclear why it would have to be so (ie. why not an adult body). I am planning to re-read Part I: Anger this summer, so maybe you’ve dropped clues I’ve forgotten/missed. Care to direct my attention to any specific sections?
The opening scene was interesting in another respect—it underscored Cyril’s accusations of mishandling by Harry’s mentors and guardians. He’s 12 years old and having this lesson?! Guess it’s the mother in me, but knowing how typical pre-teen boys think and act, this scene was rather sad. After all that had happened in his short life there’s no way that Harry could be a typical boy, but still....
Floppy’s discussion with Harry about justice and forgiveness was wonderfully well-written.
The discussion in the headmaster’s office was both illuminating and disconcerting. Possibly stating the obvious, but to make sure I’m following the correct bunny trail: Dumbledore’s magic was used to power the orb because he was the one who had worn the ring. The orb “found” him by the Mark of Cain curse left behind by the ring. Correct? Malfoy’s and Voldemort’s apparent willingness to be imprisoned is most disturbing. When was Harry inside Azkaban? Have I forgotten something or are you just putting out another teaser?
Hopefully there will be an additional excerpt from Theory of Magic, Vol. IV about Ginny’s gift.
Clear as mud? Since this is such an original story line and has one of my favourite Harry characters, that was a very long (truncated) chapter.
As I am old and forgetfull, I have to read the previous chapter to remind mysaelf where we are up to. Then I read that monster and have not a clue where we are going. Will it all end in tears? Or is there a plan?
