Aww. Stupid Death Eaters. And hopefully all this bad stuff will take a turn for the better. Very good chapter. And I can\'t wait to see all of the training. And who is Karl?

Cry Havoc

First off I would like to give you a great big apology for not reviewing this story in about forever.  But I suppose better late than never...

I'm impressed with the way you handled the battle scene between the four teenagers and the Death Eaters.  It's good that you had the kids struggling to overcome their opponants - and in the end still need an adult to help them through.  Far more realistic than super!foursome.

This part:

Dumbledore sighed. "If you die, it is entirely possible that someone else will arise with enough power to defeat Voldemort, in fifty to a hundred years perhaps. By then he could have the entire world within his grip - and it would be much easier for him to destroy anyone he thought would have the capability of bringing about his downfall."

Harry's jaw dropped. "W-why? Why didn't you tell me this before?"

Dumbledore sighed again, heavier this time. "I thought I had."

...brings up so many interesting points.  The first being, of course, whether or not anyone else would be able to defeat Voldemort (which I think you got right - in Canon, I don't think anyone but Harry will be able to defeat Voldemort).  It makes me ache for Harry, though, knowing what he'll have to face.

I am especially intrigued by Dumbledore's heavy sigh.  It shows how weary he is, and I think - more importantly - it shows the difficulties he and Harry have had communicating (throughout OotP and beyond).

Dumbledore's thoughts on fate were interesting as well.  It brings to mind how wrong Voldemort had it when he tried to tempt fate all those years ago, and I'm glad DD and Harry aren't making the same mistake.

A very enjoyable read, Joe, as are all of your chapters!

Jen

I'm feeling pretty stupid asking this, but why is this chapter dedicated to me?  Great stuff, though.

Oh yeah, I also meant to say:

"Counter-offer," said Mulciber. "Scurry back inside or I'll peel the flesh from your bones, pluck your eyeballs for potions ingredients, and mount your skinless heads on my wall to look at whenever I need arousing."

raise your hands if...eew?!

Ah, yeah, he creeped me out too, to be honest, though it wasn't as creepy as writing werewolf!Lupin for as many lines as I did.

Good chapter. What the heck did Bill do to that guy???

Dumbledore looked at Harry for a long moment before saying, "Did you tell them that you are the only one who can defeat Lord Voldemort?"

"I - I told them that either I would kill Voldemort, or he would kill me. That's what it says, doesn't it?" Harry demanded.

Dumbledore nodded. "I understand that you weren't trying to withhold anything from them, Harry. But sometimes wording can be important, and judging from the expressions on the faces of your friends, I think that you didn't make the point clear enough."

"But the prophecy didn't say I was the only one who could stop Voldemort, did it? I mean, if I don't, there's got to be someone."

An interesting point, especially when taken into consideration with your later point about fate having already been set in motion and they can't really do anything to subvert the prophecy, because no matter what they do, they'll just bring themselves closer to the inevitable conclusion. JKR has mentioned that she was very careful with the wording of the prophecy. A lot of people seem to think that Neville can take over if something happens to Harry, or that it will be all six of them in the end, but I think it will probably just come down to Harry and Voldemort (though the other five of them may find a way to fight or contribute somehow). I still wonder, though, whether she may have a trick or two up her sleeve yet regarding the prophecy and its wording.

I look forward to seeing where you take this.

"I'm...I'm family?" Harry asked, surprised that Ron would label him as such.

Ron threw him a look. "Yes, you prat. Where have you been for the past...I dunno, six years?"

Heh. Harry=dumb++blocked++! You struck the perfect note with Harry and Ron there. Harry clueless and Ron matter-of-factly explaining how things are. Made me smile

You reviewed me! Were I a fangirl, I would be running about doing that "squee" thing right about now. As it stands, I am male, and your beta, so...yeah, I won't let myself do that. But thank you thank you thank you

I'm sorry if you've had to wait overly long on my review.

This was certainly an action packed chapter... Duels, shields... Destiny. I can't wait to read more. I would be more specific, but unfortuantely, 'tis late here.

Au revoir,

"You think my Mum is?" asked Ron,
pointedly.
As Ginny so rightly points out in the next line, I think Mrs. Weasley can handle herself quite well.

Fred and George are good at keeping secrets - but not from me.
I like that Ginny has that relationship with the twins.

"We're under the Fidelius Charm, right? So even though the door's open, they can't see us. If that had changed, they'd be inside now, yeah?"
Interesting interpretation of the Fidelius Charm,
there. I love the little bits of things like this that you put in, because it shows how much thought you've put into this. You have Ron make this comment, you get Hermione thinking about how it works. She doesn't know (which I also think is good). And later in the chapter, you have Ron being right with it.
You've thought about how a spell works as well as how the different characters would react to that sort of information. You didn't just throw this together in 2 seconds, you actually took the time and figured things out, and I think that's great.

"I might make you the same offer," said Ginny, behind him. She and Hermione stepped to his left and right, wands raised at the ready.
Go Ginny!

"Counter-offer," said Mulciber. "Scurry back inside or I'll peel the flesh from your bones, pluck your eyeballs for potions ingredients, and mount your skinless heads on my wall to look at whenever I need
arousing."
And Mulciber's just plain creepy.

There was a bang like a gun and he was thrown from the stairs. Flint let go of Harry and looked up to see Mrs Weasley pointing her wand at him. "Stupefy!"
That's great. It'll show Ron not to underestimate his mum anymore.

Ron was with him, but Ginny was alone in her room - it apparently wasn't enough to confine them to a room, they all had to be confined to their own rooms.
Well, you know, what they did was rather on the stupid side, and Mrs. Weasley is a mum after all. She knows that if Harry and Ginny were in
the same room it wouldn't be any kind of punishment at all.

Harry wasn't sure what he should be feeling about the whole thing. He was sad the Ames had died, certainly, but he had barely known them. He was relieved that no one he loved had been killed, and also felt guilty for not thinking more of the Ames, who had risked their lives for him on more than one
occasion.
Such is life during war, but that's still a brutally honest truth that hurts.

Ron threw him a look. "Yes, you prat. Where have you been for the past...I dunno, six
years?"
That is fantastic. I can definitely see how Harry would be so insecure and rather messed up about love and acceptance and family and all that, so this fits in really well.

Harry was about to acknowledge Dumbledore as well, but Ginny wasn't having any of it. "Are you saying you wouldn't have, if you were in our position?"
Yet again, I'm totally loving this Ginny. Standing up to Dumbledore? Just lovely.

Harry stepped to her and pulled her into his embrace. Not knowing what words to say, doubting any words would be adequate, he said nothing. He held her as though to shelter her from an unseen storm, though
his logical mind told him she could stand on her own. He reckoned Hogwarts would do them all some good, if for no other reason than its being big enough that they'd have space to wander in and fewer reminders of the deaths so recently inflicted on the Order.

You know, your chapter endings tend to sit with me for awhile after I finish reading. And this has done it yet again.

Not the happiest chapter in the world, Joe, but well written nonetheless. Of course, how can a battle really be all that happy? Especially one with such casualties. Oh well. You didn't kill a Weasley, though you did blind Fleur. I don't know...losing
your eyesight has got to be one of the worst things. It would be interesting to see how she (and Bill) copes with that.

Brilliant. Please update again soon. Yes, I know, lame review. But um... okay, look I know you were kvetching about reviews, but you have 30, at last count, well, 33 counting with this one, and I only have 17 and I have way more chapters than you, so shut up. *smile* You're doing just fine with this. And I can't wait for more.

Good chapter, Joe! No matter how right Hermione is, I still found myself angry with her for her practicality here. I could understand Harry wanting to throttle her. I loved Mrs. Weasley being the one to stand up and rescue them, particularly after Ron had expressed his doubts about her. I like seeing her as more than just the cook. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Ack, Joe!

The fight in this chapter was incredibly well-written--had me on the edge of my seat, that's for sure!

I love this part:
"Oi," said Ron. "Fleur's dating Bill. That makes her family. Not as much as you, but still, she's someone we all care about. I don't blame you for a minute for charging down there when you did."

"I'm...I'm family?" Harry asked, surprised that Ron would label him as such.

Ron threw him a look. "Yes, you prat. Where have you been for the past...I dunno, six years?"

Harry was able to smile at that. "Thanks, mate."

I just love it when the Weasleys re-iterate to Harry that he's family, and I really like the matter-of-fact way that Ron did it here. At some point, it's going to get through to Harry, and he'll realize the strength he gets from them (and the others who love him).

And I thought this was an interesting point:
"The decision at which I've arrived is this: We will protect you as best we can, prepare you to the best of our abilities, and provide a relatively safe environment to do these things. As it stands, the happier you are during this time, the greater your chances may be of defeating Lord Voldemort. I should never have brought you back to this house."

That's something I've wondered about before--the happiness thing, that is. Makes sense to me, that Harry will be stronger if he's not wallowing in misery.

Great job, as always, Joe! I'm intersted to see what happens once they're back at Hogwarts.

Dude. Death, man.

More more more! This makes me happy, even though you made Fleur of all people blind! Poor girl.

You!
