She wiped her eyes on his robe and pulled back. Snape was giving them an odd look and stood up. "Let's get working, Harry," Hermione said quickly. "We'll talk more later."
Aww I wanted to hear Snape say something stupid in an attempt to embarass them and really humiliate himself!!! lol
oOh cliffhanger! Luckily I started reading after the next chapters were put up lol. Great chapter and can't wait for the next page to load which is like 5 seconds... but still...

Great chapter... But one thing.
'"Yeah,
Miss Patil, it means that should you pursue it, you have the ability to
become an Animagus." McGonagall was scribbling something on her
clipboard and then said, "You may have a seat."'
Ummm... Since when would Minerva actually say "Yeah"? That's the only thing.

Good start.
Was hoping for more on the "chaming muggle objects" but, oh well.
Liked the confrontation with the other girls. I expect Harry's going to have to beat them off with a stick even more so. I hope we'll see Ginny doing it to. I do so love the cat fights ... :)
Hrm. I think I'll catch it from my wife on that statement. I'll rectify it by saying that Ginny is a smart witch, you're doing well by her by letting her develop on her own. I like the fact that she's not a "Mary Jane" and you're not painting her with the "Miss Perfect" brush that so many authors do.
Looking forward to more on this story. Good work. |

Yes... Kokopelli is the great pre-beta of this story and has oh so

What a guy.

Cera Thursday 4th November 2004 17:33 | Consequences of the Mind |
And the story has begun. I was thinking of waiting to read this chapter, so that I didn't have to wait a long time in between chapters (you don't take long... but you know what I mean). I liked being able to read the entire story (as with the previous one). Of course, that's a crummy idea, as I want to know what happens now. Now that I've explained why I haven't reviewed until now... I'll just get on with it.
Good opening chapter. I can see quite a few subplots forming, from the animagus issue, Pavarti (silly girl), Ron and Hermione, Cho, the spell, etc. It'll be interesting to see how things progress with each of them.
As for Harry.. he's such a studmuffin! I really liked his reaction to Pavarti, nervous and a bit frightened. I was getting worried that he wasn't going to mention Ginny right away, and then I'd have to get angry at the poor boy.
Harry and Ginny's relationship is really nice. I like that Harry noticed the first time that she called him her 'boyfriend'. People do notice those things... at least I would. He hasn't had that before, so everything that happens with Ginny is going to be significant.
"Harry's hand was in hers and she smiled when he gallantly helped her onto the steps, as if she would have trouble keeping her balance. Not wanting to bruise his ego just yet, she didn't say a word."
This part seemed very Harry-esque to me. I can see him taking care, especially because he would feel so strongly for Ginny. I like her reaction too. She would understand about boys and their easily bruised egos.
Ron and Hermione aren't together yet, are they? I don't think so, but I'm wondering what's going to happen on that front.
The spell. Interesting, interesting. Trust Dumbledore to only give part of the information. You seem to be skilled at inventing magical-type spells and things, so I'm confident that it'll be a good one. Hopefully, in the next chapter (which I'll read as soon as it's posted).
That said, it was a great chapter! You broke right into the story well, without running around. I'm looking forward to more.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I love to hear what
my readers think and feel from my pitiful attempts at writing and
you've done a bang-up job of telling me!
I address R/Hr in chapter two (but it's just a hint or two) as well as
more on 'the spell'. Chapter three is where the spell actually
happens, so you'll have to bear with me until next week! BTW,
chapter two just went to beta.

This story seems to start with a bit of foreboding, then moves rather smoothly into the events of Harry's sixth (?) year. Harry's relationship with Ginny seems to be a key to the "power that the Dark Lord knows not." I am enjoying it so far, and look forward to events and enjoyment.
Thank you for your story!

Thank *you*, Owen, for reading and reviewing my story. Yes, Harry
and Ginny share something special that will help Harry fulfill the
prophesy. It's his love that Voldemort doesn't understand and
will never, until he is destroyed. Well, that is to say, in *my*
version of HP year six and seven. :P
Chapter two coming soon!

Cheers! Looks like a good start. Hope it's as good as the last story. Are all the girls at Hogwarts going to be irked at because she was finally the one to "snag" ? I wonder what the spell Dumbledore wants to try that requires permission from their gaurdians? Keep it up and update OFTEN! |

Obviously Parvati isn't too pleased that Ginny has claimed Harry.
She's going to be dissapointed again, though. As to other girls,
there are a few who idolized Mr. Potter and will be forced to look
elsewhere for their amorous needs. :D

A whizz-bang way to start a story! I loved the pacing of this chapter, all the difference scenes ran smoothly into each other, and the scene with Harry and Parvati, and then Harry and Cho actually made me laugh out loud.
I also am really impressed by how you just started the chapter without any of the serious background information of the prequel. We've all read it, after all
All that Harry and Ginny-ness was superb
Looking forward to more!!

Thank you so much for reviewing. On the background info, I
figured that a) it's a trilogy and b) It's much more fun to just dive
right in, don't you think?
There's more H/G in chapter two (which is coming along just
swell). And chapter three, and... Well, you get the picture. :D

Wecome back ... and a 20 or 30 chapter story ... hmm some big
difference there. I would prefer fewer yet longer chapters
to a lot of short chapters :) Either way ... looking
forward to the story. Keep up the good work!
And oh yeah ... I like your summary better this time around
|
Sunday 31st October 2004 01:36 | Consequences of the Mind (Author Response) |
Is 5-7 thousand words short?
Since my story covers more time (ten months as opposed to two) it makes
sense that it will be a bit longer. Right now, I've got
sixchapters outlined and it only takes me to the end of November!
At that pace, it will be twenty chapters on the dot. However, the
final sequence will be two or three chapters for only a few hours (I've
already written most of it).

Well, I gotta say I really can't wait for part two of this wonderful ride to really commence! This was an amazing chapter! And I'm sure all futire chapters will be amazing also!! I'm just very worried that when Dumbledore performs the spell, that he'll be left in a coma, thus being unable to protect the school, making it vulnerable to Voldemort.

Your worries are not unfounded, but I promise that Dumbledore will live
to see the end of this installment at least. No guarantees for
part three.
Voldemort makes an appearance in chapter two (so soon, you say?) Yes,
but it's not what you'd expect, hopefully. I'd say more, but I
want it to be a surprise.

Aberforth's Avatar Saturday 30th October 2004 13:01 | Consequences of the Mind |
What a good first chapter. Dumbledore isn't exactly playing on a level field, is he? I am surprised about Harry and Hermione not seeing animagus potential. I expected it of Harry, since there are few magical skills he has absolutely no aptitude for. I also thought JKR hinted at Hermione becoming an animagus in one of her post-OOTP interviews. I thought the scene with Parvati nicely done, as was breakfast with Ginny. However, we Yanks often have vocabularies that include the word 'serviette'. |
Saturday 30th October 2004 13:01 | Consequences of the Mind (Author Response) |
No, Dumbledore has a lot of power right now and is loath to give it
up. That's why there will be a distinct lack of Dumbledore in the
picture for a while, after chapter three.
Harry's out for animagus in canon, as per JKR. As to Hermione,
the jury's still out on that one. I take it that JK did not say
that Hermione would be an animagus, or that her animagus form would be
an otter, but that JK's form would be an otter. A bit of a
difference that's not clear-cut. Still, since I'm the author, I
can run with my own pet theories, now can't I?

I really enjoyed your story "Consequences of the Heart". I can't
wait to see the rest of this story develop. I liked the flow of
this chapter and thought it was interesting that Harry felt he didn't
see anything with the potion he was given. I think Parvati and
Cho will be trying to win Harry over again. Maybe? Anyway
great start!
|
Saturday 30th October 2004 10:29 | Consequences of the Mind (Author Response) |
Hmm. Maybe. Parvati's not going to give up quite yet.
Cho's not going to play too big of a role in the first bit of the
story. She's got a larger role at the end. Can't say how,
though!

Spark Soliton Saturday 30th October 2004 09:49 | Consequences of the Mind |
Mmmmm - what a lovely continuation from Consequences of the Heart (CotH). Plot threads galore - but with a nice holistic view to keep them together, although this is based on my experience from your other longer fic's! Harry might be "more sensitive" - I think I'd rather call it less oblivious!
He sure seems to be in for quite a few "rude awakenings" this year in trying to learn to live "safely" with Ginny - I have a feeling shin- and toe-protectors might be a necessary buy! Even a convinced bachelor as myself (and thus more oblivious then the average bloke) knows that one should never ever comment on eating habits or dietary likes and dislikes unless one is prepared to take some serious flak for it, the even more deadly sin is to repeat or tell anything told to you "in secret" by your female friend - Harry should be glad he only had to suffer mangled toes and not "enjoy" the bat-bogey hex or a red, smarting hand-print on his cheek! Ginny sure has a temper, which is why we like her! I have a feeling that Parvati might be feeling the wrath of Ginny as well if she ever finds out that she was chasing after Harry - but Harry managed to avoid the evil vixen with his honour intact, he didn't even cringe!
As always your style of writing is enviable - you manage to keep your main characters very canon - I especially liked the way that Hermione was depicted and Ron is much more fleshed out and mature than he was in the middle of CotH. Ginny is so very much spot on, just the ways that I always envisaged her personality to be - not some giggly airhead but a force to be reckoned with!!! I also very much like the way you can describe a scene, a surrounding, a feeling or an emotion without being "wordy" or overly descriptive, with a few well-chosen words paint a very vivid picture!
Reading this has really cheered me up and brought a smile to my face - thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of writing with me! |

have someone tell me that I've gotten it right is a large
compliment. I hope that you continue to enjoy my little story.

Hey! new story so soon. Thanks. Enjoyed it |
Pirate Ginny Saturday 30th October 2004 05:27 | Consequences of the Mind |
Off to an excellent start! I like that you've set up so many, varied tensions right away: dreams, Voldemort, jealousy, etc.
I'm another American who knows serviette (though that might be because I'm from a state that borders Canada... ).
I do have one possible nit. I remember reading a JKR comment (wish I could remember where!) about animagi... She specifically mentioned Hermione and how we already "know" what her form is because of the [room of requirement/DA] (one or the other of those). I've been assuming she meant the Patronus bit. At any rate, unless JKR was misspeaking, we know that Hermione should be able to transform.
Anyhow, excellent chapter! I'm looking forward to the rest. |
Saturday 30th October 2004 05:27 | Consequences of the Mind (Author Response) |
Thank you for reading *and* reviewing. The whole napkin/serviette
thing is catch as catch can. There are those who only know napkin
as the feminine sanitary product. While others still haven't
heard of serviette at all. So, I figured that I'd at least make
mention of it, to let readers know that I'm aware of the two-way
ignorance that exists. For those who are familiar with both,
great! There should be less confusion, then.
As to the Animagus thingy, I think we've covered that off line. Thanks for your kind words and keep reading.

Yay! I'm very excited that you started posting this.
Geez, Harry's just the school stud, isn't he? Parvati, Cho, Ginny... Good on him for telling Pav what was up!
Even though I get the idea that a lot of this was just setup for what happens afterward, I really enjoyed reading it.
P.S. I'm American, and I knew what a serviette is! |
Saturday 30th October 2004 02:16 | Consequences of the Mind (Author Response) |
Thank you, thank you for reading. Harry has a lot of 'star power'
that gets him noticed more often that say, Ron. Even without it,
I'd say that a lot of people would be naturally attracted to him (think
Dan Radcliff). He's a powerful wizard, orphaned, tall, dark, and
handsome (though some would debate the tall part) and he's tragically
challenged.
Yes, this chapter and then next few are all 'setup' chapters. The
middle third is more of that and some resolution to other 'problems'
that haven't been introduced. Then the ending (which I've mostly
written) and the big bombs get dropped.
This is the second in a trilogy after all. So no happy endings here are guaranteed.

Swedish Curmudgeon Friday 29th October 2004 23:06 | Consequences of the Mind |
You're off to a good start with this one. "Consequences Of The Heart" was well-written, and an altogether enjoyable story. It was interesting that you managed to insert that exchange with Parvati, after such a brief mention in your previous work.
A couple of squawks: I thought they were called "Puffskeins" though it could be I mis-remember - I'll have to find my copy of Fantastic Beasts. Secondly, as they are sixth year students, and as such, should all be around sixteen years of age. McGonagall's comments about developing the skill of animagus after the age of seventeen doesn't make a lot of sense in this context. Changing the after to before makes a lot more sense. (I hope it was just a typo.)
Okay, enough whinging about the bad things, there's plenty of good things there and I expect there are still more to come. Enjoy your reviews, (don't let 'em bug you,) then get back to your writing so we can see the next chapter.

The Puffskeins have been fixed! Good call. As to the animagus... the quote is, "While it is rare for a
witch or wizard to develop the skill to become an Animagus after their
seventeenth birthday, it has been known to happen."
That means that having the ability to pursue animagus study, not to
actually become an animagus, is usually determined before one turns
seventeen. Clear as mud?
