I like that clock! Good story |

I think everyone should have a clock to worry for them. |

He looked like a small child who had been told to look and not touch. Then he put his hands behind his back.
Aww, that's so sad. His past was horrible. But at least now he gets to have a happy future-after Voldy Monkey anyway haha.
*sings softly* Runnin' away from lo-oo-oo-ove!
...sorry haha

I know - poor Harry - and I always bring it up in my stories. *ponders* Maybe it's because only Ginny and new family is ever going to be enough to make up for that part of his life. |

'"The Weasleys have always been good at Quidditch.'" -- So Aunt Martha is a Weasley, and Ginny is not the first Weasley in generations .
'"Because you loved Sirius,"' -- undoubtedly the correct interpretation of JKR's reference to 'emotion' that filled Harry (though perhaps also grief); was it love specifically that defeated Voldie or the power of the emotion? though the later reference to 'the force he detests' and 'heart' would indicate the former (but JKR doesn't make it explicit).
'You want to write to Dean?" His voice was sharp. "No! Why would I want to write to Dean?"' -- I guess teenagers don't always make a lot of sense (hmm, adults probably don't either )

They seem kind-of like Ron and Hemione, but without all the yelling. What I mean is, they both like eachother, they don't know they do, and they don't know that the other person likes them back. All very odd, the cow keeps showing up, the arm is always everywhere and pops up where you wouldn't think of, but then again is very obvious. You can put all of these wierd, funny, serious, emotional, togetherness things into one story, and make it make sense. I like this story so far, and I really do hope that it keeps getting better, and have Harry and Ginny findtheir feelings and have them do something about it soon, 'cause it is very nerve racking not having them see their feelings when it is in open sight for everone to see. |

How angsty! Another great chapter! And I only just realised I haven't commented on the clock yet! It's brilliant, such a great idea! It's like in the books when JKR uses Fawkes and sometimes Fang and other creatures to show how characters are feeling, only you've used a clock! That's a really good idea!

You know I invented that clock for a one-shot challenge fic. here at PS. It was a throw-away line by George about how Ginny sounded like Aunt Martha's anxiety clock.
How happy I was to find a use for it in this fic! It's my own little Greek chorus! |

You're taking it slowly - painstaking, bothersome, but very good! |

I liked your discription of magical places. I've been told out places like that - in this world, I mean. I friend told me seeing the Northern Lights out in the wild is very much like that. Are they ever seen in Nova Scotia?
Very interesting scene between Harry and Ginny outside the house at night. I like how they're getting closer in a subtle (and yet at the same time not so subtle) way. I particullarly like Ginny's project with the Jarvey...I'm imagining it coming in handy later on in ways she wouldn't expect. |

It they can be seen - they usually announce it during the weather on the news. It's fairly unusual for the part of Nova Scotia I live in. (We're south of where we lived in Maine - not too many people move south to Canada) |

I especially like how Ginny is an actual person with moods, and not a one-dimensional cliche. She's much more likeable like this.

That's hard to do with someone we haven't seen enough of in canon - I hope I got her right! |
Bring and Fly Tuesday 23rd November 2004 05:19 | Magic Within, Magic Without |
So many good things in this chapter... put him in a room where nobody had died... the Oakshaft scene... Sir Crackpot... the stone circle... Aunt Martha's portrait and Harry comment about avoiding the landscapes. That gave me a lump in my throat. And then the last few sentances. *shiver* Can't wait for more! This is wonderful stuff.
I admier the facility with which you turn a slightly sad, reflective conversation into something either darker or funnier and I find myself reading not just for the story you are sharing with us, (for which, many thank!)but also to see if I can work out how you do it and thus improve my own scribblings. |

When you figure out the "Hows" let me know, so I can do it again! That's the worst part of writing - is that just because one chapter is good - doesn't mean the next one will be . . . etc . . Ok, now I sound like the anxiety clock! |

I really really like this story so far! It's so different from everything else I've read, and Aunt Martha is a really good original character. She reminds me of my aunt, actually! I like your Ginny in this story. I think too often we see these happy-go-lucky!Ginnys in fanfiction, and Harry is always the one in the horridly bad mood. Your Ginny has one heck of a Weasley temper- perfect!
And I don't fancy him, she reminded herself sternly. She had given up on Harry long ago.
Sounds like Ginny is in good old denial....I'm looking foward to the next chapter!
~Alabaster Black~
P.S I just LOVE the anxiety clock. Do you have one? Can I buy it off ebay? |

After being with my in-laws for a week - I realize that I fashioned the anxiety clock after my dear mother-in-law who can find the darkest lining in the whitest cloud. They were predicting thunderstorms for Thanksgiving day - so she had the power out - the turkey undercooked - and all of sick with food poisoning in under 2 minutes. The woman is masterful! (Of course her family plays her like a violin - and of course this is her reverse hexing - if she worries, nothing bad will happen - and nothing did!) |

Just a quick note from the beta: St.Margarets is traveling for the Thanksgiving holidays, so it may be a bit longer before she's able to respond to reviews and/or to update... although, you should probably be prepared to be *thankful* for an update (hint, hint ) sometime next week |

Aenigmatic Sunday 21st November 2004 10:55 | Magic Within, Magic Without |
Indeed another great chapter, with fantastic characterisation and the way the story doesn't rush immediately into fluff/cuddling or anything *quite* so romantic yet. The loss I feel each time I finish a chapter just disturbs me more than it should, simply because it's a reminder of the number of H/G fics out there that do not meet the mark when yours sails beautifully over it.
I suspect Harry seems more aware of his burgeoning feelings more than Ginny, who seems more repressed about it. (Well, maybe more like Denial with a capital 'D' first) But the little nooks and crannies in the manor are great fun! Discoveries galore and more under way I hope. There's already so much H/G - but there can never be enough eh? :-) |
Friday 26th November 2004 18:25 | Magic Within, Magic Without (Author Response) |
Have you noticed? There aren't any other characters for most of this story - except for H/G and Aunt Martha? I'm in such a happy H/G land while I write this. (I hope the readers are happy too - it's not a story for indifferent H/G fans, I'm afraid) |

getting closer and neither of them fully realises it yet, great
writing.:D

I loved Aunt Martha letting Ginny know that she didn't know that she
had made seeker because she was proud Ron got what he needed by being
keeper. I also liked her cheering when Ginny made good moves when
practicing. Ginny is finally getting to know her Aunt without all of
the boys around. I think they will get to see the connection between
the two only Weasley born women in decades.
The stone circle is mystical. It has a phoenix like song that the sword
had. There is something that connects the well, sword, circle, and
Ginny. I just haven't figured it out yet. I can see Ginny at Harry's
side with her singing sword and Harry wielding the sword of Gryffindor.
She will conjure up a well that Voldemort cannot endure. LOL. Funny how
I keep imagining them in the dark or middle ages.
I do like how Ginny is showing all her little fears like spiders and
the cracks in the ceiling. Harry is learning that she doesn't like to
be alone. They are learning so much about each other yet are still as
far apart as ever. I can't wait for them to notice that they know
everything about each other and realize that they compliment each
other.

I'm glad Aunt Martha has stayed interesting - I'm enjoying getting to know her along with Ginny.
I have visited stone circles in England and Scotland and there truly is something special about them. I'm glad I could capture a little bit of that. |

I love the anxiety clock. It feels right. You have done a wonderful job with Aunt Martha as well. I will not be able to think of the Weasley family in future without including her among them.
Again, you have done masterfully with Harry and Ginny. I especially like seeing this story from her point of view. Watching them dance around each other is endearing and excruciating all at once. I think Ginny knows what she's fleeing from. Not admitting is not the same as not knowing. |

Could I possibly express how brilliant this is? I
don't think so - but I will endeavour to anyway. The slow, subtle
build-up of Harry and Ginny's relationship is a masterpiece in the
making. How Harry notices Ginny when she's laying on the bed -
comparing her to an advertisment. How Ginny has to continually
chide herself for thinking about Harry that way. Then the scene by the rose bush. Masterful. I bow before your greatness, lady. I've been struggling to find a way to express my feelings on this... so I'm happy to add "Me too!" to Mr Intels review.

Ahh, St. Margarets... This is wonderful. I really
anticipate getting to know more about the well, the stone circle, the
seventh child, the Manor, Aunt Marthas son, H&G - everything you're
building into the plot. I do hope this will be a long journey.

Once again you have weaved a brilliant mixture of originality and humor together to create a masterpiece! I loved the 'Sir Crackpot' thing, and the underlying fluff that put me in the mood for cotton candy. Can't wait for more. |

I'm glad that you don't mind that the fluff is underlying. It will be a few more chapters before I can break out the cotton candy. |

::still giggling:: Oh, dear. The car advert comment and Ginny's discomfort was funny, but the landscape comment had my husband insisting I share. :) I loved the family portrait/glimpse into Aunt Martha's past. In fact, there's a lot to love about this chapter.
Something strange about that cow. But then...I've always found cows a little sinister. |

Yes - that cow. Hmmm? Poor Harry not only does he have to avoid all of the paintings, he has that image of Ginny drapped all over his bed. I'm as cruel as a fluff writer can be! |
