ROTFL ... i had a suspicion the punishment would be like that

Loved it!! The consequence and Harry's reaction was hilarious. Hope the rest of this story and all your others are as good as or better than his chapter (because if so, you would keep your position as one of my top authors). Must continue reading now...

Are you...fully functional?" Remus asked with a straight face

Oh, how absolutely delightful!  This was done very tongue-in-cheek with not so subtle digs at various ships and those that ship them.

Although it's frustrating for me, I applaud your judgement in deciding not to post chapter two until you have chapter three done.  This is a fun little story.

I am wondering whether Arthur will remember what he and James discussed at the time.  Ahh, the joys of the consequences of comments made years before.

Now would you please explain to me why I've got to marry Ginny Weasley or my...my...thing won't work any more? HAAA!! I could just imagine Harry saying that!!  Gawds this story is brilliant!  And hilarious! My god... I thought they would have twelve months before they would have to marry! Not twelve days! But wouldn't Arthur be able to break the contract, seing as he is the one who- albeit unintentionally- created it? Unless, of course, the consent of both the parties that created the contract is needed... and that would be hard, seing as how James is dead. And I'll just stop rambling now. lol OH!! I hope you update soon! But judging by your author's note, it will be a while. Hm. Well, hurry up and write chapter 3! I'm really curious to know the outcome of this story.

You are simply diabolical- I'm not sure what will kill Harry first, Voldy, embarrasment, Ginny, Molly, Arthur or himself- this really puts the shackles to it- just imagining how the brothers will take this bit of news- and despite that H/G are made for each other, and that they both have deep feelings for each other- this could be a very cold does of water for them- better have lots of Firewhiskey on hand.

Bravo

I'm one of those boring people who does things in as structured a way as possible, so the mere existance of this fic has me shaking my head a bit here. I find it hard enough to keep one fic organized and well written, so the notion you can find the focus and the energy to launch yet another story amid all your other projects is simply beyond me. That this has the makings of a very fun read is all the more impressive. Some of us are obviously blessed with a lot more creativity than others.

I like the notion of an entire story based on unintended consequences. Mixing James' cavalier attitude and actions and Arthur's curiosity is definitely a good combination for coming up with something like this too, all the more so because I can actually see someone in their situation saying something like, "If we ever get out of this, I'll...." Now granted, committing their children to marrying each other that way is a heck of a lot more of a stretch, but it suits your purposes so who am I to complain?

This chapter builds on that nicely. Having Harry and Ginny very close but not together and not admitting (to themselves at least) what they feel for each other is a great place to start this. It gives you the opening to have them be somewhat accepting of the idea while still being completely outraged. I thought you handled Harry's reaction very well by having Remus keep him from completely losing it (even at the news of your rather ingenious and hilarious punishments) and shifting him to the task at hand. I think that gives you the opening for more fireworks ahead. I'm especially looking forward to Ginny discussing the situation with dear old dad!

Anyway, this is a fun start. Nicely done.

ROFL!

I'm really curious to see where you go with this, and if you ever felt like visiting my LJ you'd find out why!

I loved the way you set it up, the whole thing with the quill was very inventive as are all the hedges fencing the contract around. Poor Harry! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm sure he'll have done both by the time Ginny has finished absorbing the situation. I can't wait to hear m'laddo explain it to her. I can hear him now... "Have you heard of the Wizarding decree of 1016....?"

I had to laugh as Remus' assessment that it was worse than Voldemort. I dare say at H/G's age, it is. Good one!

I've read so much Harry/Ginny angst/fluff/romance I'm a bit unsteady when I'm reading what I guess is supposed to be a comedy ... ???  Interesting premise, some good humourous lines in there!  Wondering how Ginny is going to take it ... and are you going to force it all the way to the consummation?  Somehow I suspect there's going to be a few twists along the way ...  Thanks for the two chapters!
Wednesday 1st December 2004 22:47The Bargain (Author Response)
While there is some humour, it's not primarily a comedy, no.  There'll be some twists, for sure.  Even I don't know how many!

The decree was written when people married much younger then they do now.  It was all about age of majority.  Since Harry is 'legal' in the Wizarding world, he has an obligation to become married and be a contributing member of society.  To Eleventh century wizards, it made perfect sense.

I hate it just as much as you do, trust me.  I wish the stupid plot bunnies would get in line, like they were civilised or something.  But they just jump on me when I'm least expecting it and I have no control over it.  It's a curse.

OH MY! Love the whole concept of the story. I guess especially in the wizarding world--this idea gives a whole different idea about verbal contracts..(A verbal contract is only as good as the paper it is written on.)

Keep up the awesome work! I can't wait to read more,

What a deliciously devious plot idea.  And so well started, as well.  I especially liked the image of Arthur as a capable rough and tumble fighter in the prologue.  I can't wait to see where you'll get to with this story.  I can only imagine Ginny's reaction.  And Molly's.  I suspect that Arthur will not be in her good graces.

We see both Weasley women react in chapter two.  I hope I live up to the expectations.   I think it's pretty good, but you never know!  Arthur gets off easy, but not without consequence.

Great start  should be an interesting few days...

Will there be anything left of Arthur left, once Ginny's finished with him, not to mention what Molly will do to the remains. :D

Though, it's not playing fair to end a chapter like that, and then say the next bit may be a while, you know! Very Mean

Whee-ee!  What a plot bunny you got there!  I really look forward to hearing Harry tell Ginny that they are to get married within twelve days.  Luckily they're already attracted to each other, but still...  Quite some message to get!

"Are you...fully functional?" Remus asked with a straight face.  Oh, I can just imagine the scene.. poor 17 year old guy, being asked a question like that by his guardisn....  Oh, yes - I do look forward to the rest of this!

It's so nice to see Harry bantering with Ron... it's the kind of snappy dialogue that you do really well and it always makes me smile. I especially loved Ron getting his own back by teasing Harry about Ginny.

And this "Have a lemon drop. I've found them to be most soothing in a stressful situation." Is so completely Dumbledore. So completely random, I loved it.

The interaction with Remus and Harry was nice too. I find in Fandom that many try to insert Sirius' personality into Remus once he becomes Harry's guardian, something I'm glad you haven't done. Sirius would have let Harry make a fool out of himself by shouting out his lack of *ahem* possibilities, whereas Remus would definitely cast a silence charm.

"But her birthday is in twelve days! How are we supposed to get married in twelve days?"

"You'll think of something, Harry."

Oooh, I hope so! Something tells me Ginny's not going to take this very well. I'm sure chapter two will be worth the wait!
