Nice story, but "and he knew no more" has got to be the most overused line in HP fiction.

I'm not so sure about this chapter. Killing off the Dursleys is what most readers would want to happen, but you've taken out one of Harry's main sources of conflict when they could still have been of use to your story. I was disappointed to have the thread of Dudley dropped so suddenly, too. That's one that you could have taken in several different directions with great results.

You killed them? No way!

I do like the way you increased vernon's violence first, make the reader hate him a little bit more. But dudley was starting to be nice.

Can't write more, gotta read next bit

EEK- I ask for revenge and you kill them all! I have to admit, I think the death of all three Dursley's is a bit unlikely. Although an interesting spinoff fic would be if just Dudley survived, and what happened after. All in all, great chapter, full of action!

Wow! Can't believe you killed the Dursleys. They were hateful people, but I wouldn't wish death on them. (You know, there are some things worst than death. I shamefully wished THAT was their fate.) Well, I'm glad that Harry and Dudley became sort of "mates" before he died. At least Harry's thoughts of his cousin now will not be so terrible.

Very good, and sad chapter. I'm wondering about Lucius. He was mentioned in Harry's dream, and me thinks that Tonks really didn't kill him. That scares me a bit. Oh well, guess I have to keep reading to find out.

Favorite villian in this chapter is most definitely Bellarix. I love to hate her. I want her to survive until the end, and then BAM! She didn't even see it coming.

Awww.. Thanks for pointing me to your story over here, but I am wishing you hadn't killed *all* the Dursleys, just when Dudley was attempting to befriend Harry! Although I suppose it was the only course of action considering Dudley would never have forgiven Harry had he lived; he would have always blamed Harry for the death of his parents. Again, thank you for letting me know about this site; I am gorging on HP fanfic since finding these quality sites. I have plenty to read until the last book comes out!

I'm shocked. It was an amazing chapter and I really enjoyed it. To be honest it had occured to me that you might kill the Durselys but I didn't think you would! Wow.. thats all I can really say right now. This is just another example of how talented with writing you really are.

Aww I had a very bried "vision" of sorts of Dudley hanging out at Grimmauld Place and learning more about Quidditch and all. At least he and Harry were kind of friends when he died... I would have never felt that way if I hadn't read this story -or at least the parts with Dudley hanging out with him and talking about girls and all. Well done with all of it!

Well this is bad. Very bad. I wonder what Dumbledore is going to do to protect Harry now. I love your story so far. I like how you make up cool things. I could have never thought of them, well except the killings of the Dursleys, but I probibly would have never done it.

I really have to say that I think Dumbledore is a fool to this point in your story.  To think that an attack wouldn't be planned on Privit Drive, or that Voldemort would not figure out a way around the wards.  Because he sent the death eaters there before the wards fell, is just plain dumb.

Like I said in my review from the last chapter there should have been order members there all the time.  Where was Dobby to stop his unlce from beating him up or throwing him out.  The people protecting him are really doing a poor job.

Regardless of those opinions, this is really fun to read, ther is lots of exicitment and action in your story.  I just wouldn't want to follow Dumbledore into any battle, he makes to many mistakes.

Hmmm - a little more angsty than your last story, I think.  You have me feeling very, very sorry for Harry... and surprisingly I will miss Dudley!  I actually had to reach for a tissue.  I'm very curious to see where you take Harry when he wakes up.  (I mean how can the poor kid pull his socks up and move on after this chapter?)    I do finally - after billions of perfect chapters - get to put my two lousy cents in on a few items.  First, I wondered why Harry didn't protect himself from Vernon's wrath with a few of the physical defense moves Jonathan taught him?  Also the section where Tonks used "Petrificus Totalus" confused me just a bit.  I couldn't quite picture the scene fluidly.  My brain kept inserting a "scourgify" that Tonks never mumured.  (She wouldn't be letting vomit dribble down his chin, would she?)  The phrase "turned him over" may have been further distilled to "turned him onto his back"  just for clarification of Harry's body position.  And finally I couldn't quite picture how Tonks moved Harry under the light... did she drag him?  Levitate him?   Despite my nit-picking, I loved this chapter.  I just thought I would mention these very small things while I could, since I so rarely get to crticise anything you write.   Ron's and Ginny's reactions were PERFECTLY written.  I could so easily picture Ginny making Harry's bed whilst wiping away tears.  And Ron's face upon hearing about how Petunia blamed Harry before she was killed...  It was very touching.  As always, thanks so much for sharing this wonderful story!
Wednesday 22nd December 2004 08:11Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned (Author Response)

Yes, definitely more angst-y, but it kind of had to be after what I did to Ron and Harry at the end of PoE.

As to Harry protecting himself from Vernon, that's kind of an underriding theme.  Remember that quote a few chapters back about those who spend time protecting others needing protection themselves? From everything I've read on abused children, unless they go off the deep end and react violently, they often never strike back at their abusers, even when they become adults and are physically bigger.  Something about the situation keeps them feeling the part of a defenseless child.  Harry may fight DEs and Voldemort himself, but he's always needed protection from his Muggle relatives.

As for Tonks, well, I've always admitted that I don't think action/adventure is my strong suit.  It was a battle, things were happening quickly, Tonks physically pulled him away in a gut reaction to the horror of the situation.  She was using magic to move him under the light.

Glad you liked Ginny, I was sympathizing with her here, as well.

Bellatrix must die.

Sometimes I think Harry is just *too* nice, you're going almost too far, don't you think?  In continuing to hide the deprivations of the Dursleys.  I know he's had 11 years of conditioning to overcome, but surely the past year of Ginny, the Weasleys and the order repeatedly telling him that he's in the right and it's OK to disclose the details of their treatment of them would be enough to cause him to do so ... or at least consider the option.  Instead you still have him going to any lengths of self-sacrifice to protect them from just retribution.  It just seems that you were starting to stretch Harry's nobility a little too far.

Still, you've fixed that particular problem anyway.

Bellatrix must die.

If I were Ron I wouldn't have a qualm in the world about killing Draco:

1.  It was self-defense.
2.  It was unintended.
3.  He was protecting Harry, and probably saved him from death.
4.  It was (only) Draco, who, from his actions in Power of Emotion, not
to mention canon, is pretty much an evil git with no redeeming features
who deserved it anyway!  :-)

In fact I would have thought that (3) would even ease any guilt about being the reason Harry couldn't make good his escape from Malfoy manor (I'm still hoping for a nice spot of consolation/breakdown between Harry & Ron when the latter tries to apologise to Harry for 'hobbling' him).

Bellatrix must die.

Anyway, can I say that Power of Emotion was one of the best stories I read this year, much enjoyment, thank you for that and this sequel, and I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

(Note for the new year - Bellatrix must die.  Can you see to it, please?)

Wednesday 22nd December 2004 08:04Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned (Author Response)

Well, I think we might see Harry differently.  Eleven years doesn't disappear after a few months, even if those few months have been very good.  If you notice, it is Ginny Harry has opened up much more to, but that doesn't mean he'll do it to everyone.  And I think Harry would try to defend ANYONE to the detriment of himself, even a Snape or a Malfoy if they were defenseless.  I do believe that is his nature.  And the hiding it, I think, reflects more on protecting his own embarr+blocked+ment than protecting them from the Order.  He simply doesn't want anyone to know.

Ron is only seventeen himself, I think the idea that you killed someone would take time to digest and make sense of.  We've seen that Ron has a big heart, I do believe he'd struggle with all of this.

I hope you can continue to enjoy, even if you disagree.  If we all saw canon the same way, this wouldn't be half as much fun.

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned
Oh boy ... you're pretty sadistic on Harry aren't you :)   Yet again Vernon beating Harry ... I won't repeat myself on that one, but killing off all the Dursley's ... grim indeed.  I wonder how long it will take Harry to recover from Petunia's last words to him.

Hope things start looking better, because they are looking really grim right now.  Actually reading the last couple of chapters got me as frustrated when I was reading through OotP during Umbridge torturing Harry - so I think you're doing a great job making him miserable :) - That's a positive comment btw, in case it doesn't seem that way!

I'm a sucker for happy chapters though, so hopefully we'll get one of those soon!  Looking forward to the next as always ...

Ah, another fluff fan.  I'm rough on you guys, aren't I?  I'm an angst fan at heart.  There will be some good stuff coming for Harry, but there are still a couple more angst-y chapters to get through.  Hope they don't drive you crazy.

A/N: Thanks so much to Mistral for all her beta work in getting this in shape. She was surprised I killed the Dursleys, but pleasantly so, lol. I know some of you saw it coming – I really can’t stand them.

I'm not really "surprised" that you killed them, but did ya have to make Dudley human first??   Poor Harry, as usual!  I AM glad that he'll get to be with Ginny and the Weasleys soon, though -- although that's obviously a horrible way for it to happen, esp. from Harry's POV.

At least he's getting TONS of mental "hugs" from your readers by now

Blush, sorry.  To be honest, when I started writing this part over the summer, I never expected anyone to buy Dudley's turnaround.  I thought everyone would scoff, so I was pleasantly surprised by the response.  My original outline had Dudley surviving, but I just couldn't make it work with everything that's about to happen - too many loose ends, so he had to go.

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned

I absolutely loved this chapter, but how could you do that to poor Harry!?! To misquote Hermione in the PoA movie, "You foul, loathsome, evil, little [writer]!"  Harry doesn't need any more guilt or pain or physical discomfort than a hole in the head (and I suppose something like that was part of his latest set of injuries on top of what Tonks found).  Everything was going so well for him and I, as a dedicated reader, was feeling much better and happier for him even though Harry was still stuck at the Dursleys.

There were two parts I really enjoyed.  The first is the exchange between Harry and Dudley and how Dudley seemed to be becoming more open-minded than his parents.  I also like the fact Dudley tried to talk to Harry as an equal about Veronica and seemed to be willing to take Harry's suggestions to heart.  The second is the ending.  Your indirect reference to Harry's relationship with Sirius is really touching.  I've read those few paragraphs three times and they bring a lump to my throat every time I read them.

I look forward to your next posting and sincerely hope that Ginny and Ron don't do anything rash between the time Bill informs them of Harry's condition and Harry's arrival at Grimmauld Place.

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned

I remember in the first part when you wanted to kill the Dursley's off but you Beta or friend or somebody didn't let you.  Didn't listen this time did you?  I'm not so upset about Vernon or Petunia, but Dudly was actually becoming tolerable.

Poor Ginny though.  Being kept up in Grimauld Place and not being able to see Harry, she's gonna blow something up.

I also liked the reference to the Ministry being comletely stupid, "and there is an owl here from the Ministry with a warning about the use of underage magic," suits them.

Great Chapter, update soon.

Saturday 18th December 2004 21:29Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned (Author Response)

LOL, you're right!  It was a friend and she didn't want me to kill them without a reason and repurcussions.  She was right, so I built a whole summer around doing just that, lol!  Bagged.

I'm glad you sympathize with Ginny.  I do, too.  Sometimes waiting and helpless is the hardest part, but I had another reviewer who didn't like her for the way she was acting.  I think she was acting appropriate for the situation, so thanks!

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned

Got to the end of this chapter bawling my eyes my out! Heartbreaking.

Killing off the Dursleys was completely unexpected. Even when you killed off Vernon, I thought that Petunia and Dudly would survive, and then that Dudley would survive... I can't imagime what it's going to be like now, especially, as Bill said, that the protection is gone.

I love the snippets with Harry and Sirius.

I'm thoroughly loving this story, but part of me wishes I hadn't  read it - I'll now have to wait for updates, and I've been spoiled by being able to read the entire story so far in one day. *g*

Hope you get the chance to update soon.

Thank you. :)

I kinda Wish you'd let Dudley live. You were gradually softening him towards Harry and it just semes so disapointing, you know? Wow Melinda!  Just, Wow!  I mean I knew that you hated the Dursleys and I'm all for some payback but ...wow!  I never expected you to kill them all.  I thought perhaps Vernon was a goner but never expected this.  Poor Harry though, yikes.  He is totally going to blame himself and I don't know if Ginny will be enough to help him get over this.

You are awesome as are your stories.  I just need to read something fluffly now to calm down.   Centrifugal Force maybe?

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned

I had a bad feeling when I saw the title.  I can't say that I'm sorry that you killed off the Duesleys, because I'm not.  I've regretted that you kept them alive when you had the chance to kill them off in PoE.  Still, having Harry be forced to watch was twisting the knife a bit, wasn't it?

Harry's demons will really come home to roost now, won't they?  He'll need Ginny at her best when he comes to.  I hope she can get herself in hand.  Great final image with Padfoot, by the way.

Saturday 18th December 2004 08:43Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned (Author Response)
Sorry if you thought it was too much, but I think Harry's personality would force himself to watch if he was in the situation.  He'd feel he owed them that.  Harry will need Ginny, and all the Weasleys, but they've always been willing to be there for him.

Woah. Dead? Sheesh. I mean, woah. I'm speechless. I just wish you didn't kill Dudley... but at least he died a "good guy." And now, what about Harry? He will not take any of this well. And that dog? It's the perfect description of Padfoot, yet what does it mean? Is Sirius back? Or is it because of Harry's comatose state? All in all,  wonderful work. I absolutely loved this!

Friday 17th December 2004 20:56Harry Potter and the Curse of the Damned (Author Response)

Yeah, but some of the "good guys" have to die.  Dudley was only the first, unfortunately.  They're at war now, and it can't only be the bad guys that lose people.

As for the dog, I'll never bring Sirius back - he's dead - but Harry always sees him when he's unconscious (which, for Harry, is quite often).  It's a form of comfort.

“He’s leaving, Petunia. I’ve had enough. He was showing Dudley his…things. You know the way Dudley’s been acting; it’s his fault, and I won’t have it. This isn’t up for discussion.”

Aunt Petunia’s face paled at the comment about Dudley. She cast worried eyes at Harry. For a brief moment, she seemed indecisive before her stony expression returned. She gave a slight nod, and Vernon whipped open the front door.

Poor Petunia--Condeming Dudley and herself to death with a slight nod-it just doesn't seem right somehow..maybe its the evil side of my personality--Melindaleo, you let them off too easily. 3 Avada Kedavras and 3 flashes of green light for a lifetime of abuse? Well as I said, thats just me.
