What a wonderful story! I love first person perspective but it's so hard to write because you have to have a very good grip on the character. You did just splendid. I didn't see a single part where Ginny seemed out of character. Well done.
This is such a fun piece. The idea of Harry and Ron coming up with some sort of plan like this, and then it working out is so funny. Harry's never good at flirting but if there were a time for success, this is it! I laugh at the idea of him saying he likes redheads and then eating out of her ice cream bowl. Poor girl just didn't know what to do with herself after that. Such fun! Thank you for sharing this with us! |

Ah, thanks! I love first person naratives, it's fun to be in a person's mind like that, and just see what they see. I'm glad you enjoyed this little story, and that you thought Ginny was in character all the way through. High compliment indeed. |

That is just like the first time i kissed my boyfriend he imediastly asked for a second chance and that kiss was much more sucessfully executed. |

I can totally understand the important third kiss. I don't even
remember my first kiss. I do remember my first kiss from my DH. I'm
sure Ginny will always remember that first kiss from Harry. Even though
technically it wasn't her first kiss, it was her first kiss from Harry
which made it more special and horrifying how it turned out. I felt
really bad for both of them. Maybe you could do a sequel of the first
date but fourth kiss.

Thanks for the review. I remember my first kiss, and it was... well... not great. But I agree with you about remembering the first from the person who's most important... even if it wasn't fabulous.
There's a prequel written by Katieay that you may be interested in. It should be on the site soon :) |

Hah. Quite amusing. I about died laughing at “I think he’s hitting on you, Ginny.” Just as nonchalantly, he returned his attention to his dessert." One can always enjoy a light, first-person account like this. Well done!

Yeah, that line was quite shocking when my brother actually said it to me. This is based on a real conversation... it didn't quite end the same way though.
Thanks for the review, and my apologies for the delay in responding. |
Katieay Tuesday 5th July 2005 05:09 | The Tale of a Kiss |
This was lovely! Funny and quirky and awkward, which meant that it wasn't teeth-rottingly fluffy. And your use of the first person point of view was brilliant. I couldn't point you to a favourite line, as I liked them all, however this stuck out for me:
Hello? Did Harry just hit on me and then go back to the ice cream? Who does that?
Indeed! Again, a lovely story with just the right kind of balance to it. |

How candidly amusing and cute. I liked the different style of the writing for Ginny's PoV. I loved the emphasize of the kiss numbers. I just had to laugh when she skirted talking much about number one. A very cute little tale. |

Excellent!!! Humor, and a tiny bit of yearning. the whole thing flowed so well and was so cute ,with the 3rd.kiss being an almost disaster instead of a soul bonding experience. this one definitely gets my vote. |

You know, fanfic authors seem to endow Harry and Ginny with this supernatural power of HOW to kiss. I don't think we all remember how awkward it was to get your first few.
I also like the fact that Ginny seperates her kissing history into 1, 2 and 3. Hm... Was Dean number 2?
Good work. |
Wednesday 28th September 2005 16:39 | The Tale of a Kiss (Author Response) |
Thanks! I use a lot of real life experiences in my fics... and I can certainly remember the awkwardness.

Oh, that was hilarious and delightful and just yummy! Lots of funny lines in this, too many to mention - it'd be funny to hear if Ginny's speculation about Ron and Harry's earlier conversation was true ... can I ask for a prequel with the boys? |
Wednesday 28th September 2005 16:41 | The Tale of a Kiss (Author Response) |
Sorry for the slow response, but I'll let you know that there is a prequel of sorts, written by my dear friend Katieay. It should be hitting the site sometime soon. :) |
juliet Friday 1st July 2005 04:09 | The Tale of a Kiss |
That was a fantastic story. Ginny was so smug at first, bragging
about her kiss, and at the same time, showed the insecurities that she
was feeling. I liked how the story flowed so smoothly, and at the
end, I thought back to "where were the sweets?" - written so well, that
it didn't seem to be an additional part to the story.
Wouldn't mind a followup!
|

Thanks for the review :) I didn't want the sweets to be obvious, so I'm glad that they aren't. |
Arnel Friday 1st July 2005 00:21 | The Tale of a Kiss |
Cute story. I like the idea of Harry stealing bites of Ginny’s ice cream; a very intimate gesture even if it was done without her express permission. You did a nice job of showing how Harry tried to convey his interest in Ginny before he had to resort to being blunt and asking whether or not she was seeing someone. |

Excellent! Really, really good job! I have two favorite quotes:
<<Red? He likes redheads? I blinked. I’m a redhead.>>
<<I looked down, smiling at the sight of our joined hands. Pale skin against pale skin. I predict we’ll have pale babies.>>
The first elicited a grin from me; the second a peal of laughter (something pretty rare with me). Again, great job, and good luck in the competition! Bella |

Funny, sweet, very much in Ginny's head and thoughts. I'm still uncertain where Harry got the courage from--I think I'd have liked to know, but this really is a totally fun fic. Well done. Brava! |

For Harry's side of things, you'll have to wait for Katieay to get her act in gear.

An interesting style of writing. it's fun to have the narrator tell a story like that.
The characterization of Ginny, though, seems a bit on the meek side. Where is the fireball we got to know in OoTP?
thanks for sharing
