Molly Weasley's Practical Guide to Magical Childcare

I can't believe I have fallen so behind with Molly's Guide. This section was wonderful! I especially like the Junior Broom sequence! I can see my youngest taking full advantage of the two loopholes...climbing on the handle and actually leaping from the thing! Ah well, motherhood is nothing if not exciting!

I also enjoyed the image of Percy in a leg lock... Wouldn't we all love to do that just once? Of course we'd kindly cast a cushioning charm on the floor first, but it would still be rather satisfying.

Another great installmet Tante! Now on the the next!

More great tips for the wizarding world, and more funnies for us to laugh at.

Dear Ridgeback77

Ach, thank you, dear!  Your praise is too kind.  I'm flattered that you find my parenting ideas "great."  And how lovely that the Guide is entertaining you as well.  I appreciate your owl, dear.  Do write again.

This is amazing, when are you next updating?

I can't wait!

Saturday 17th September 2005 20:49Molly Weasley's Practical Guide to Magical Childcare (Author Response)

Dear Raliena,

Goodness dear, your interest is incredibly flattering.  I'm so pleased that you are enjoying my Guide and looking forward to more.

Family responsibilities interrupted my summer writing schedule.  I'm embarassed to realize that I'm much further behind than I promised to be at this point.  Sadly, but thankfully, the children have all now returned to Hogwarts for the new term and my normal routine is returning.  I miss them dreadfully, but it is so nice to have a bit of time to call my own.

Please be patient for just a short while longer.  My regular beta, Antonia East is on sabatical at the moment and it took some time to find a replacement for her.  I'm ironing out some particularly tricky bits for the next chapter.  When that's done, my new interrum beta, Pirate Ginny, will edit and post it as soon as possible.

Thank you again for your delightful enthusiasm.

With affection,
Molly Weasley

Oh, how many sleepless nights I have had to endure. When will you market Sleeping Draught for those of us who aren't blesses with potions talent.
Saturday 17th September 2005 20:33Molly Weasley's Practical Guide to Magical Childcare (Author Response)

Dear Mrs Tonks,

Thank you for your recent enquiry concerning Sleeping Draughts.  We are sorry to inform you that while we do have several fine books and many articles on potion making in our catalogues, we do not produce any potions products at this time.  If at any time we acquire a subsidiary who does, you may rest assured that announcements will appear in all fine Wizarding media.

If you are interested in any of our books on potions-making, you may owl directly for a complete catalogue or use the reference copy on display at Flourish and Blotts, Diagon Alley.  A separate catalogue of Witch Weekly potions-recipe articles is also available by owl.  Reprints of articles are five knuts per copy.  Please allow two weeks for processing and delivery.

Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,
Tante

Dear Mrs Tonks,

It was so kind of you to suggest that I market my own line of household potions.  While I don't have any plans to do so myself, it isn't out of the question that Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes may soon have some for sale.

I've mentioned your idea to my boys.  They were quite taken with the possibilities of such a project.  The next time you're in Diagon Alley, you might have a word with them yourself.  Don't go so far as to agree to be part of their testing panel, though.  Just a word to the wise.

Thank you for taking the time to owl.  I do hope your children manage to give you many more restful nights in the future.  Enjoy your little ones.

With affection,
Molly Weasley

Great addition to your story. I particularly liked the idea of learning math and composition from Quidditch - makes sense, and we've always wondered where young witches and wizards learn the basics.

Also, thank you for using the SEP in your story. Douglas Adams is a classic, and I can't eat in a restaurant without thinking of Bistromathics. Hilarious!

Thank you.

JKR mentioned that young wizards are either schooled at home by parents or tutors, or attend Muggle schools.  It made sense to me that Weasley children would be educated at home, especially since they might not be trusted to contain accidental magic (which we'll deal with in the next chapter).  Molly/Arthur in good conscience couldn't let accidental magic show at a Muggle school.

Yes, Douglas Adams is a personal writing 'god' of mine.  I adore the way he crafts sentences and slips bits of humour to his reader.  I pre-beta Sugarquill23's A Dream Unlocked, and the SEP field lent itself beautifully to get her out of a corner she'd written herself into.  Since I had it on the brain, I took that use and included it in Molly's Guide.

Once again a really nice chapter. I realy liked the part about healing charms LOL. Hope the new chapter comes soon.

Once again a wonderfull read (I really don't think I deserve a mention, I only said a few words. But thank you anyway.)

Yes it is!

You're one of my "mail-order idea companies."  You've helped a lot in this chapter and in my research for the Hogwarts' chapter which will be out after HBP.  Just a few words can really get me thinking.

Thank you again!

Great chapter, as always, tante!  It's inventive and you've got Molly just nailed down.

Bless you!

Of course, while reading I couldn't help but think that Bubble Head Charms would have great "cone of silence" applications as well! : )  Anyhow, great work and I look forward to another chapter before HBP!

Oooo.  "Inventive!"  THANKS!

I'll take all the blessings I can get, thank you *pockets for future use*.

Hmmm.  I hadn't thought that about the Bubble Head Charms.  But now you mention it.  I wonder how thick the bubble really is?  If it's really fishbowl-like in thickness as well as shape, it might also be quiet visually fun with the distortion and all.

Yay! Lovely update. I evil chuckle to think of Percy being leg-locked, especially with his nose in the air. Molly's so formiddable, and loving, and adorable and you capture all of that so well with this book. I can't wait for the next chapter :D

I really appreciate the praise.  Sigh.  I want to be like Molly.

This was great.
I loved all the charms and recognized the Garden one -- I'm Sugar's beta. :)
As always, when I get to the end of the chapter I'm desperate for more and it's always too short! :) but that is a good thing.

Love the Quidditch. The Floo was inspired. Now you're going to have to think up some toys that are particularly dangerous. Toy wands, specific sweets ( you did mention this one, but I can see Molly warning her readers about some sweets her twins sell that she doesn't really approve of. Kind of a half-endorsement, if you will). Wizarding flu might be a good one to mention, and maybe some Muggle diseases, like chicken pox (which could have a magical variant) and mumps or measles. And I'll need to check my "Fantastic Beasts" book, but maybe something on pets and the damage and craziness they cause? Kneazles, toads, owls, nifflers, etc. I can see some fun mayhem with those.

Good work!

I'm Sugar's pre-beta.  I love what she did with the garden scene in her fic.

I'm glad you're wanting more.  Then I've not let the fic get tired and stale.  Whew!  Ideas from the floo section came from questions Kelleypen and Antonia asked me.  It wouldn't have come together without their gentle prodding.  (Well, Kelley prods less gently than AE, but...)

Wizarding Illness is a great idea.  Let me think about that.  Dragon Pox is a dreaded wizarding virus.  And pets!  Great ideas!

Yes, I quite like her.  With seven children, you do have to pick up a useful thing or two.

I can totally see Molly freaking out about Jr.Brooms with Bill, and then becoming laid back and entirely supportive of her children doing all kinds of dangerous things later.  I was that way about my first too. Well done, Tante.

Dear Molly,

Would you mind coming to visit me so you could teach me some of those charms?  I'm especially interested in Silencio at the moment, because my four year-old sounds an awful lot like how you describe Ginny--made-up songs and all.  I think it would really come in handy in the car, so I could actually hold a conversation with my husband and be able to hear what he's saying. I'd be willing to pay your way, of course.

Think about it and let me know.

Julie

Sorry Tante, but I couldn't resist.  I think that Molly could open a consulting business in addition to her book and the Weasleys would never want for anything.

to Texas - by winded Flynn:

Julie, dear:

Witch Weekly's american publishing office has accepted my guide for publication in the USA so I will be in your area on a promotional tour.  I would be quite pleased to meet your family.  I don't know how helpful I can be but I can at least offer you moral support.  I'm sure you know Silencio better than you imagine.  You just may not have used it much since you left school.  I do understand your frustration, though.  All that singing can indeed drive any mother barking mad, especially when it's at top volume and in an enclosed space.

I've enclosed a list of the dates for the tour.  There are a couple gaps of a few days between some of the promotional stops.  If either of those are convenient for you, I can aparate to your home.  There's very little need for you to go to any fuss for me, though you're so kind to offer.  Our owl Flynn will be pleased to carry back your reply.  He's becoming quite good at international deliveries.

Looking forward to meeting you

Regards, Molly

Oh, wonderful!  How I wish I had a little magic in my veins.  Little?  No!  Much!  A silencing charm would be a blessing at times, Ginny sure is not the only one who's totally unable to stop talking...  Great story, and I absolutely love all the little hints to mothering experience and tante observations thoughout.  Not only this chapter, but all.

Thank you so much for sharing, and thank you to your betas for being great at throwing ball with you.

Hugs, Berte

Yes, the wonderful women who are donating their beta skills are invaluable to me.  I absolutely couldn't do without them.  *love*

I long for a good Silencing Charm myself.  Especially while we're traveling.  Sigh.

I'm go glad you're enjoying Molly's Guide.  Just three more chapters to go!
