you have portrayed all the characters perfectly. ginny is fiery , ron is easy oing, but gets heated over small matters (like ginny and harry). hermione cant bear the fact that harry can sence magic, when she cant, and harry is as i would expet him to be, although he isnt as nobly stubborn as before.

an excellent story so far. some real though was obviously put intot he story line

Thanks so much for the kind words. I love getting new reviewers after a story is long done - and I'm thrilled to hear you think it still holds up after canon.

A button-down shirt? Why did Hermione let him? Button-down is absolutely not done for a festive occasion.

Excellent chapter, and I am glad you stressed the "not ready" part. It is nice to see your Harry and Ginny don't jump into things at a whim.

You had Harry making Ginny happy on her birthday, when it must have been very difficult for her, being so far from home. I was a bit surprised you didn't have the "Ginny way from home for her birthday" as an angle.

Anyway, enjoyed the chapter.

Seems to me that you've very well characterized the effects adolescent lads & lasses can have on each other, all right. :-) Rather cute that by the time Ron came in, they really were asleep.

I think it's appropriate (earlier in the chapter) that they don't find a Horcrux right away. Hermione's reaction to Harry's gut feelins & intuition is excellent, as well.

Very nice!

My favorite chapter so far!! I loved every moment, and the date was just wonderful!! I was squeeling and giggling and I just loved it.
Favorite parts:
"Harry's heart swelled as he realized how much Ginny truly liked the gift. He suddenly thought that Bill might be onto something about girls, after all."

"It was quite some time later when Ron stormed into the bedroom, fuming and determined to go out looking for Harry and his little sister in order to pound Harry to a pulp. He pulled up short when he found the two of them sound asleep in their beds, both wearing contented smiles across their faces." I just love Ron!

And I'm really glad you had fun at Disney Land!! I've always wanted to go!

How can I put my feelings into words? They seem to be flying in every which direction as I read this wonderful story, and that is saying something. Your weaving of this tale is accomplished with an artistic hand that few can boast of. I am most impressed by your work.

My favorite part of this story (and of your others) is the interaction between Harry and Ginny (and Ron and Hermione, for that matter). Your words are well chosen, transporting the reader into the universe which JKR has created and to which you have done such justice. You engage the reader with the characters and we are bound to them - feeling what they feel. I smile a lot reading this story and I often find my eyes trying to skip ahead so that I can find out what happens next. I have to hold myself back, and it always proves worth it to read the exact words you've crafted. Characterization is key to any good story, and you've done a splendid job of it here. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm not reading canon. I love the subtleties of their love for each other and how they become more truly themselves when in each other’s company. I love the giddiness that sometimes comes from being in the presence of the one you love! You've captured that perfectly.

I must also add my happiness at your holding back Harry and Ginny from going too fast. I can't know what you have in mind for their relationship, but I've always imagined the Wizarding world to be more traditional than ours. All four of these characters are, in fact, teenagers with raging hormones, but as the storyteller you have the final say as to what happens and when. Just please consider having them hold off until they are married.

Let me just add that I'm very jealous of your ability to tell a great story without large quantities of words. Keeping the story moving helps keep the reader engaged, and you’ve done an outstanding job of that. In the same stroke you also give ample time to situations that deserve it, and that is a special skill, indeed.

Well, I can't wait for the next chapter. I'll keep an eye out for it here and on your own webpage. How you churn them out so fast I'll never know, but keep up the wonderful work!

Your obedient reader,
Felix

Hi Melindaleo.

Hahahahaha - what a wonderful ending to the chapter:

It was quite some time later when Ron stormed into the bedroom, fuming and determined to go out looking for Harry and his little sister in order to pound Harry to a pulp. He pulled up short when he found the two of them sound asleep in their beds, both wearing contented smiles across their faces.

Considering what they had been up to before it was a lovely and logical conclusion. I think that Ron might be getting seconds thoughts of having Harry dating Ginny, too much passion for his sensibilities.

I think that Harry certainly has matured and what he treated Ginny for her brithday was unusually mature, I can see why Ginny loved it.

VERY interesting thoughts about where Voldie has hidden his horcruxes - the logic behind why it wasn't in the orphanage was unflawed.

So much looking forward to the next chapters! Thanks for writing and sharing this! TTFN, Spark

Great chapter. I enjoyed all the detail about the beginning of their search, and how they went about it. The trip to Albania was a bit of a surprise to me, I haven't even considered the possibility that a Horcrux would be hidden somewhere outside of Britain, very interesting. Anyway, Ginny's birthday was very sweet, and a lot of fun to read, hopefully it gave Ron and Hermione an opportunity to relax as well. Really wonderful job writing this.
Saturday 27th May 2006 19:20The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Thanks! Yes, Ron and Hermione had their date as well, but since I'm trying to stay mostly in Harry's head - with a few exceptions - I didn't write that part.

I must admit I struggled with this chapter as i wasn't sure what the focus really was. Each part was fine in itself but I would have liked it better if you'd taken a chapter over each part. Or perhaps I'm just being greedy?
Friday 26th May 2006 07:31The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Sorry to make your struggle. I guess the focus was simply to show that it wouldn't be easy. There will be several dead ends to chase along the way. A chapter for each part, eh? This story would end up being 100 chapters long!

Yes, you're right. That was a big boo boo on my part. Tom killed his father and grandparents, then let his uncle take the blame, much as he did with the house-elf and Hepzibah Smith.

Great chapter! I like the development of the relationship with Harry and Ginny -- it's sweet and a continuation of what was started/suggested in HBP.

I got a kick out of Hermione demanding to know how Harry "knew" things through feeling. I could just see her huffing and stomping...how dare someone know something she didn't and it didn't even come from a book! (I like Hermione; she just drives me nuts sometimes.)

What a romantic birthday dinner! Who knew Harry had it in him? LOL
Friday 26th May 2006 07:28The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Heh, I feel the exact same way about Hermione, lol. She's fun to write, as well. I think Harry has the potential to be romantic if just given a little push as he grows older. I saw a lot of passion in his character in HBP. I really like the person he's becoming.

Didn't mean to stress you with that email! I just figured you'd be interested to know she's no laughing at your idea.
Loved this chapter--the birthday portion of it. And I liked that they didn't find the Horcrux in the orphanage...would have been too easy. I don't think the quest is going to be all that easy in canon, so why should it be easy in fanfic, right?
Can't believe we've got to wait another year or more to find out!
Congrats on an excellent job, as always.
Friday 26th May 2006 07:26The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
There you are! Yes, I was VERY stressed by it, lol, but I'm pulling a Scarlett O'Hara and not thinking about it. Yeah, I think this Horcrux hunt will have its ups and downs, but they've also got all the clues they'll need. They just have to piece them together.

Don't worry about JKR's comments on Horcrux!Harry... Just keep writing your story as gripping and wonderful as always, and everything will be fine.

It's been a very enjoyable chapter. I laughed at Snot. So cute!

The only thing I wondered at was the ease with which they went to Albania. No problems at all? I suppose they used translation spells, but still... Well, never mind.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter!
Thursday 25th May 2006 10:24The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Aww, thanks! I was worried at first, but after thinking it over, I'm sticking to my gut instinct that Harry will survive.

In my head, they did use translation spells, but I wasn't certain if that was canon or I'd read it fanfiction somewhere so I didn't elaborate, lol.

Hey Melinda! Glad you survived Disney World! Another excellent chapter. I'm so glad to see that Harry and Ginny got some quality snogging time in. I also loved the interaction between Ron and Hermione. That was funny! I also loved how Harry was making a contrast between the orphanage and the Weasley's family life; how he thought that the Weasleys were so lucky to have had what they did. And then the wealth of the Smith House didn't even tempt him to jealousy, even though there is something to be said for it such as the heritage it represents. Nice job! I also liked how they didn't find anything on their first attempt and how Harry analyzed where and why Voldemort would hid his Horcruxes. Very well done. Thanks for sharing!

Oops, one more thing - what's this about JKR's comments? I haven't heard anything... Harry dead? You're scaring me now...
Thursday 25th May 2006 10:23The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Thanks! I think the Weasley family is everything Harry has ever desired. He wants to be part of a family so badly, and he can empathize with the orphans that way.

The comments from JKR were on Mugglenet over the weekend, but they've since been removed at the publisher's request. I really don't believe Harry will die in canon. Nope - can't even consider it.

I'm always so pleased to see this has been updated, and this was, once again a fantastic chapter. I love how things are moving quite slowly on the Horcrux front, as it gives more time for Harry & co to be normal teenagers, like at the end of the chapter. I'm looking forward to more!

Harry decided he liked watching her walk.

tee hee! that reminded me of Ron in Goblet of Fire (movie) and the Beauxbatons girls. That was such a sweet chapter! The bra thing was very, very funny ... so was Snot. That's so Ginny.

Oh, and i totally know what you mean about worrying about Harry. Every time i think about him dying, i get a horrible sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. life with no Harry ... i don't knw if i'd have the heart to fead fanfiction anymore, since all of it would be fake.

anyway, great chapter. Cant wait for the next one, and i'm glad you had fun on your holiday!
Thursday 25th May 2006 10:19The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Heh, I'd forgotten about Ron with the Beaubaton girls, lol. That was funny. If Harry does die at the end - WON'T WON'T WON'T - and I dont' think he will, I'll have to immerse myself in all the fanfiction I can get giving me alternate endings. Real life is hard and brutal at times - leave my fantasy alone. The hero gets the girl and lives happily ever after.

Yes!!! the quest has begun!!!! I can't wait until your next update!!!! You must do it soon or I will explode!!! No pressure.....I take that back!!!! Lots and lots of pressure!!!! I'm glad you liked Disney World. I havn't been there yet but my goal is to go to all 5 Disney resorts...I've been to two. The one in California and the one in Paris. I actually used to work at the one in California (yes, i live in the "OC" believe me, its not all its cracked up to be....plus I hate that show) Some parts of Chino actually look nicer than Orange County.....ok....back on track now! Please update soon!!!

The Seventh Horcrux
This was such a fun chapter to read. I like that although the Horcrux hunting is really serious and dangerous, you still allowed our characters to have some fun and be kids. Oh yeah...thanks also for putting Ginny in a color that doesn't clash with her hair/skin. I've read so many stories where they have her in red or pink. I'm glad someone actually noticed she has red hair and pale skin. I loved the name of her teddy bear too! That one had me laughing out loud.

I've been very impressed with the story so far. I feel you have a good handle on the characters and keep them well within JKR's boundaries. I also appreciate that the story is completely feasible. I haven't once said to myself, "That can't happen". You should be pleased.
Thursday 25th May 2006 10:15The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Thanks! I like the parts where they act as kids best in the books, it lightens it and makes it easier to read, I think. Heh, I LOL about Ginny in pink. I've seen that SO many times, and I always cringe.

The Seventh Horcrux
Great chapter! I like that they haven't found anything yet--it's much more realistic that there will be few successes in the midst of many dead ends. I also liked that you had Harry and Ginny realize that they were headed too far too fast and decided to keep things under control.

By the end of the chapter the foursome have been gone about a fortnight. Have any of them sent an owl back to GP to reassure their loved ones that they're okay? Sure, Mr. Weasley had an idea that Harry and Ron were going to be leaving soon, but it seems especially cruel not to communicate (without revealing their plans or location) that they're fine. Guess that's the parent in me coming out....
Thursday 25th May 2006 10:12The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
The kids have not sent word, so you can imagine the state poor Mrs. Weasley is in. Remus and Arthur knew they were going, but owls are not safe, so at this point they have no way to communicate. Rest assured, that will be solved later.

*laughs herself silly* Loved the little scene between Harry and the bra. How funny was that?! The scene between Harry and Ginny in the orphanage corridor was nice to read as well as the whole birthday celebration between the two--I am glad that you are including some "passion" between the two. You are right; both Harry and Ginny have passionate personalities. Harry is such a noble, understanding young man. Darn! *grins*

May I ask when JKR made comments about Harry being a Horcrux? I've told you before that that thought makes me very worried. I have already told my family and my "Harry Potter" friend that I am reading the end of the 7th book when I get it. I need to know as soon as possible if Harry lives. If JKR kills him off, I'll be upset. Then I'll have to use your story as my "official" 7th book. (Just don't kill of Harry, please.) *begging voice*
Thursday 25th May 2006 10:07The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Yeah, I did see both Harry and Ginny as very passionate people during HBP. He sees what he wants, and he has the confidence to go for it. The comments I'm referring to were on Mugglenet before they were asked to take them down. They came from a letter JKR responded to a Mugglenet reader. Now, a few days later, I'm calmer. I don't believe she'll kill Harry - I really don't.

Sorry, I have to make another comment. I read part of the chapter then had to stop for a few hours, then came back and finsihed it. So, I forgot about the 1st part when I reviewed before. "Snot" was too funny! And I was laughing so hard when the girls were teasing the boys about fighting over Ginny's bra! Hilarious!

I like your pacing of this story as well. It's moving along at a good rate imo.
Wednesday 24th May 2006 18:34The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Aww, thanks for the double! I'm glad you liked Snot and the bra. I had fun with those scenes myself. I'm really glad the pacing is working for you. Everyone is quick to say when it goes too fast or too slow, so it's really nice to hear someone who is happy with it.

Could you please let me know where JKR's comments appeared? It's the first I heard of them (but then, I was away from my computer last week).

Sorry not to leave a proper review, but my supermarket is about to close and I really must dash. Liked the chapter in general, though there are a few places where you repeat words within a phrase or in 2 adjacent phrases. Look out for them.

No problem - go catch the supermarket. I missed JKRs comments, too, but I had a bunch of emails about them from some on my mailing list. Apparently, they appeared on Mugglenet before they were asked to take them down. She also said she thought she'd decided on the title.

Very nice chapter! I love the "proper date"! Harry was very sweet and loveable. The ending was cute but Ron almost got to really pound Harry to a pulp didn't he?! LOL! Looking forward to more wonderful work from you and your betas!

I'm worried about our Harry dying too and I can't stand that! No, please Jo don't do it! I know she's said we'll be satisfied with the ending but I don't see how I'll be satisfied if Harry ends up dead.

I'm glad you and your family had a great vacation! I haven't been to Disneyworld in years and would love to visit again.
Wednesday 24th May 2006 18:29The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Thanks! Yes, Ron did get worked up, but it was about 3 in the morning at that point and he thought Harry and Ginny still hadn't come home. I think the more interesting question is what where Ron and Hermione doing up until 3 in the morning.

As for Harry dying in canon - I absolutely can't take that, no matter how it's done. I won't read it. I'll pull a Kreacher - Won't Won't Won't. After all the hell he's been put through, Harry deserves his happy ending.

I highly recommend DisneyWorld, btw. It was wonderful and went by way too fast.

I'm really enjoying this story. Your little details make it so real. I love "snot"!!! I hadn't heard that one before & laughed right along with Harry, when Ginny was explaining how the name came to be.
