As I have probably said before, I love this fic! I was also wondering if you could do a short sequel of it, like Harry and Ginny (after their "celebration") in the cave and everone's reaction to them being married and all that. Thanks! *Evenstar*

This is the very first HP fanfic I have ever read. I found it at the end of last year as I was browsing the internet for some Harry/Ginny stuff. I didn't even remember if there was a title. I can't even describe how I felt when I read it. It was so beautifully worded. Almost like a poem the way Harry and Ginny expressed their feelings for each other. Very passionate. Then as I continued searching the internet for more stories I forgot where I had read this one.

Since that day I have read many, many H/G stories but this one always stayed on my mind and it bugged me I couldn't find it again. I also read your other story at CM, which by the way is awesome too. Which brings me to today.

I was browsing for a story to read when I came across one of my favorites, Coven of Echoes and decided to see what other stories you have written. When I started to read this one I was pleasantly surprised when I realized it was the same story I had read. You made my day!!!!! Just wanted to let you know you're the reason I'm hooked on HP fanfiction!!!!!!!!(jk) I'm especially hooked on the H/G ship.

Continue writing you're the best!!!!!

Thank you so very much -- YOU made MY day.

I've been working on a piece of orginal fiction and I can't tell you how reviews like yours keep my enthused when my muse seems to be on vacation.

I enjoyed writing both of these stories -- I borrowed some from this for Coven -- have to love those monks! But this story was my first "serious" FF and it was a great exercise.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Yours,
h.

So beautiful and haunting. You've done a wonderful job of capturing the desperation both of them feel and the pressure that the war has brought to their lives. I almost wept at your description of Harry's insistence that he give this to Ginny. Very well done.

"If Harry dies at Voldemort's hand, you, as his wife, receive total Fidelius concealment. It's ancient magic – his blood sacrifice and your life debt combine to protect you from the hand of Voldemort or any of his followers. They cannot harm you."

Why didn't this apply to James and Lily?

I loved this story. I literally had welled up tears and my heart ached. You're amazing.
Wednesday 6th December 2006 12:46No More Time (Author Response)
Thank you so much for that kind review.

I suppose it didn't apply to James and Lily because Lily never owed James a life debt as Ginny owes Harry. Of course, this is just me making a big assumption that Ginny owes Harry a life debt after he saved her in the Chamber. Does that help?

Thanks again - I'm so glad you enjoyed the story.

Loved the imagery.
You nailed that.
The voices. Ginny's was strained - but so was her character. Liked Harry's - although his changes seemed almost too much. This story has a backstory that is better left unsaid. I can see the masses stirring, begging for sequels and prequels and all manner of that, but resist! Don't give in! This is such a good ficlet, it doesn't need it.

I only wish we had about 300-500 more words of dialogue. I'm a sucker for it, and his story had little. But then, emotion doesn't need much, does it.

The prelate wizard... reminded me of Friar Tuck in Robin Hood Prince of Theives.

Good work. I look forward to reading more of your work.

WOW! An amazing and gut wrenching story that literally took my breath away...I realised when I got to the section when Harry tells Ginny that the celebration can't start without her, that I'd stopped breathing at the earlier point when he'd left to go fight. The power of this part was a match for the emotion of their earlier reunion.
Given the dark and painful tone of the rest of the story, I was quite unsure that Harry would survive.
Aside from the quality of the plot development was the quality of the prose itself in word choice, correct grammar all the stuff that should go into a good story and frequently does not. This could be used as a textbook example on how to write a dramatic short story.
Congratulations on a well deserved win.

Dear Miri,
I apologize for being so late in this reply but I was on holiday with no internet access which just about killed me. Anyway, thank you so very much for the lovely review - to use your words, "it took my breath away!"

I cannot take all the credit for the proper grammar - that is my wondeful beta's lair, Kelley. Lord, without her I'd sound like a preschooler.

Perhaps the nicest compliment I've ever received was your's about a textbook. I think I'll print that out and keep it by my computer for future inspiration! I'll be posting a longer FF soon and would love your feedback. Till then, take care and thanks again.

I love you other fic "The eyes have it". I just love the way you portray Harry. And this one here is abso-bloody-lutely beautifull. And since fanfic readers are a really demanding lot, here is a wish list:
In the fanfic area of Muggle net there is a story called "The Row". In it Harry and Ginny act up on their attraction after a row of volcanic proportions and consequences (and Harry sporting only a towel as clothing!). It is a great story but the author never really worked on it. It needs build-up, smut and consequences and implications after the fact. I am here wondering if you wouldn't like to expand the concept to make it more angsty, longer, sexier and THEN, put it in the Broom Cupboard. Consider it a challenge
Congratulations on winning, although I really never thought it would be any different anyways!

Dearest girl from ipanema,
After I stopped laughing I tried typing - you have got to be one of the dearest reviewers ever! And I LIVE to make readers like you happy. So...

Here's the deal. I'll read the piece and try to see if there is someway I can capture the essence of it in my latest FF. I'm going to start to post a long (25 plus chapter piece) in late August. In it G&H are estranged from the get go. But if it doesn't work out exactly, I'll try it as a stand alone in the future. I think you'll like the build-up, smut, consequences and implications of this next story (although the smut can't be of B.C. intensity - but that doesn't mean to say it can't be drop dead romantic

Anyway, thanks for the great support. Please keep reading and reviewing - you keep me going!

I'm finding myself a bit overwhelmed as I try to put together a review worthy of this. This is wonderful, wonderful work!

The imagery in the first half of the story is absolutely incredible. It felt more like I was watching a movie than reading because you made it so easy to visualize every scene. I especially liked this:

She gasped. Ancient catacombs, like charnel nests, lined them: macabre honeycombs of the long dead. She swallowed, the delicate bones of a human hand, clenched in death, brushed her hair.

In just a couple of sentences you draw a clear-enough picture of the surroundings and convey all the uncertainty, disgust and fear coursing through Ginny at that moment. Yet you do it subtly, allowing the reader to make the conclusions. That's very skilled work, and I'm extremely impressed.

I also really enjoyed your tone. The way you interspersed short sentences and fragments with the description added a tangible feeling of urgency and desperation to the story. I thought that really helped bring across Ginny's emotions, letting you convey more without having to resort to saying what she's feeling. Again, that's very impressive work.

On the other hand, I'm not much of a fluff fan and I found it a bit cliché when, after all that incredible angst and raw emotion up through Harry and Ginny's reunion, you added a wedding too. But it was very much in character for Harry to do something to protect Ginny, and it set up the conclusion nicely. Plus, the way you had Ginny reverted to despair after that helped carry your tone right to the end. That made the happy ending so much more impactful, a deft final twist that brought everything together.

Anyway, this is great work. Thanks so much for sharing it!

Dear KC,

I'm so sorry to be this late in respondig to your lovely review. First, I couldn't respond till after the competition was over, and second, I've been on holiday and had little to no access to the internet - which is making my head explode!

I'm very glad you enjoyed the piece - and could understand the way I structured it - in short sentences and overall tone - very astute of you. I adore intellingent readers - makes it all worth it, really.

Your quote is one of my favorites also. I liked the idea of having skeletal fingers brush her hair. In fact the whole descent into the earth ending up working well as a methaphor.

A huge thanks for the "show don't tell" comment. Lord knows I struggle with that so often.

Now, as far as the wedding went, I was aiming for a Romeo and Juliet feel - a desperate act in a desperate time. I felt if there was no hope in this pieces it would be far too dark. Plus, the inspiration for this piece came from real life (I write about in my livejournal), and I needed there to be a happy ending. Just as I believe JKR won't kill Harry in the end. But, I've been wrong before...

Anyway, thank you so much for such a wonderful review. I'll be posting a story in late August and would love to hear back from you. Till then,

Take care,

Dark, mysterious and tense. A very gripping beginning that drew me in.

The depiction of a very tired, yet focused warrior sneaking through a churchyard to find sanctuary was poignant. Where can those who have taken life go; regardless of whether it was for good or evil. The description of a haggard appearance and lack of spark in the lovely red-head known for being vivacious gave clarity to her character in this work. The weight on her must be heavy. The small comment of the prelate’s eyes followed by Ginny’s thoughts gave direction to the sympathy he must have felt for her.

The labyrinth under the church that she is directed through, with the warnings from the monk really added to description you gave of the secret passage. It changed my initial perceptions from those of historically describe passages in castles and the like, to one that has unstable areas. The continued urgency in the monks directions and Ginny’s labored breathing helped maintain the tense uncertainty of the story despite the haven that we think she has found.

You shifted the tale nicely with sleep and dreams’ swallowing a defenseless and helpless Ginny like a web catches a fly. Our subconscious is an incredible thing once we consciously put ourselves at ease and the Id is most certainly a powerful place to travel. I know when I need to, I can push my body to its limits for as long as I maintain the drive. But once I consciously relax because what I set out is complete, BAM, I can sleep for ages and boy what dreams do I have. The depiction of a carousel was perfect!

The reunion and night of togetherness provided deep breath at the right time. For those of us who have spent a year away from their loved ones, this hit a certain spot that took me to an even greater level of empathy. The parting with the sudden proposal and marriage were perfectly placed to keep the build of emotion with strength for the imminent battle. A warrior needs his/her focus and motivation to accomplish an insurmountable task.

Taking us back up the emotional rollercoaster with Ginny sequestered in an isolated room, allowing her thoughts to run rampant with GOD knows what various scenarios of outcome, gave a feeling of helplessness. Her refusal to face the arrival of someone kept the tight fist of emotion that you built with her fire-side musings was perfectly typical of someone afraid to hear bad news. Having her hear the familiar voice again almost made MY shoulder slump with relief.

My favorite line?
"You are never alone," she whispered, and raised her eyes to his. "Never."
Something we should all remember through life.

~Absolutely awesome!

Dear paladin,

Please forgive me for not replying sooner to your review but first, I couldn't until the voting was finalized, and second, I needed a period of time to adequately do it justice. I've been on vacation with limited to no internet access, so I'm wobbling along right now on a modem - bear with me!

As a writer, there are very few things that make me happier than an intelligent reader. Someone who can understand the way the story operates on many levels - and in fact, find some on their own! You personify such a reader, and I thank you, and look forward to writing much more if you promise to stop back and tell me how you like it. Deal?

Thanks for picking up on the themes of helplessness. This story was inspired by some time I spent up with family members at the Hutchinson Institute in Seattle. During me time there as a caregiver, I saw so many people at the very end, and one couple inspired me. I wrote about it in my live journal, if you're interested.

And yes, never being alone was a favorite line of mine, also. A phrase, I believe suits Harry, and would resonate with him tremendously.

Thank you again so very much for that marvelous review. I'm speechless, really. Just to let you know, it means the world and I've glad you enjoyed the piece. I'll be posting a much longer one soon. Let me know what you think.

Wow.

I am nearly at a loss for words. Excellent story, excellently written. Your style reminded me very strongly of Rowling, particularly in the passage describing Ginny's initial decent into the cave. The intricately detailed descriptions of what she saw, heard, smelled, the way she moved through the confined spaces--very like Rowling. I don't know if you were trying to approximate her style or if you consider this a compliment, but I certainly intend it as such.

The story itself, brilliant. I like the fact that Voldemort's defeat has taken years. Considering the amount of work to be done and obstacles to be overcome it seems highly unlikely that all could be accomplished in 1 year's time. The blessings and curses of an impromptu marriage between Harry and Ginny--also brilliant. You obviously took the time to think out this story and try to make it consistent with the existing Harry Potter legacy. Well done, very well done.

Please forgive my delay for responding but I'm on vacation and dialed up through an old modem. Aaaah.

Thank you so very much for that lovely review AND for taking the time to post it - it means the world. I extremely flattered that my writing style reminds you of JKR - perhaps the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me about my work. Yes, I liked the cave scene quite much myself. I'm a sucker for catacombs and hidden passageways - who isn't?!

Yes, I agree with you about the war taking years - although we know it will take one . I laughed reading an interview where JKR said she had originally outilined the last book to be XX pages and it kept getting longer as she realized Harry needed to do more and more. I think it's going to rival OOTP when everything's said and done, don't you?

Well, thank you again for the lovely review. I'm posting a longer work in late August. I'd love to see how you like it. Thanks again.

Oh that made me shiver.

"First, I love you, and God, I've missed you,"

*sigh* Perfect words.

I absolutely loved your subtle gestures and conveyance of emotions and habits and utter pain that just emanates throughout the piece. Sigh, and alas, a happy ending too. What more could you want?

But perhaps the best part was the absence of contrived declarations or overdone endings; this was earnest and miserable and so (er, darn) scared to be hopeful. wow. I hope that didn't trigger the review filter *shrugs*

This was a haunting read which kept me hanging on throughout. I am glad that Harry survived, as I thought that he wouldn't for most of the fic.
The intensity between the two was something that I can see occurring in Book Seven, perhaps not to the extent of a sexual relationship, but meeting whenever the opportunity occurs.

Yes, I wanted to create a sense of intensity caused by the natural relationship and the times they live in. I hope we see a bit of that in Book 7, too.

Thanks again for the lovely review.

Take care,
hwimsey

chiarafrancis@nerdshack.comThis is truly one fantastic piece of writing. The suspense had me sitting on the edge of the chair the whole time. You have made us 'see', 'smell' and even taste all of Ginny's experiences. I can hardly imagine anyone topping this in the competition. Tomorror I will read it for the third time and make a copy for the writer once she/he is revealed, since there were two places were words went missing...something this good deserves the best presentation possible.

Hello Kelleypen,
Well we all know this story would be notta much without your guidance - of which I am so very thankful.

Found internet in Maine but it's thru a modem - ugh.

Finding this site has been a godsend - and I'm doubly lucky to have you for a beta. Thanks so very much for everything.

Your number one fan (but not in the creepy Stephen King way),

This piece may be the single greatest one-shot of Harry/Ginny I have EVER read. It's so detailed and utterly emotional - I had tears filling my eyes more than once. I loved the desperation and passion of it - it had so much heartachingly beautiful moments throughout - and the best part was the ending. It was an ending I had actually quit hoping for because everything had seemed so completely dark and beyond saving - it was a fantastic surprise. Kudos and kudos again! Absolute perfection!!!
