I like your premise, and you've developed Ginny as a character instead of a cut-out. I'm looking forward to seeing how and where you go with this. Thanks for writing and sharing your story.

*laughs and giggles and warmfuzzies* This is a lovely, very manner-of-fact exploration on both their parts. And I love this.

A thought occurred to him quite suddenly. Ginny, what happens when one of us has to use the loo?
Apparently, she had not thought of that yet, either. I guess the other one is going to think really, really hard about something else. And maybe do jumping jacks, too, just in case.
It’s a deal.

Whew, talk about your AU!

I was not at all expecting a 'Oneness' to exist between Harry and Ginny. I know they are made for each other, or more specifically, she's made for him, but this went beyond any bonding I was anticipating.

I find it interesting, but thought it might have happened too easily. The adjustment seems to be too seemless for the two of them. but maybe the problems are coming?

I'll really be curious to see where Ron and Hermione fit in now.

Thanks again for an interesting read.

That was great. It is kind of like the fanfic "The Twist of Fate". IT is very interesting though.

I've not read that one. I'll have to look it up sometime.

Meaning of One, Part One: Stone and Fire
One is not alone, or solitude. One is unity, all.

I am guilty of making comparisions to Fate's Debt, because these two stories appear to be about bonds. But One is not, is it. FD is about a magical bond between two souls. MoO is about two aspects that are designed to complement each other, designed to connect, and counter an aspect that is flawed. In our limited perception these two aspects are (sometimes) called Harry and Ginny. They do not bond, they connect. Two puzzle pieces that combine to form a one piece puzzle. The seam to the connection disappears as the two aspects merge to truly become One. The Whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Wow. I shiver to think what your thoughts are like after many drinks!

MoO and FD share a point of narrative origin, I'll admit. But you've correctly identified the core difference that makes just about everything else very different. Welcome to a very short list of people who are close.

The last time I had far too much to drink, I ended up trying to tutor a pair of unwilling students in first-year Latin. I'm not sure what that says about me, but I'm pretty sure it's not good.

Thanks for reading and thinking!

'Hello, pleased to meet us' --
'I’m sure' -- shouldn't this be 'we're sure'
your depiction of Harry and Ginny's joining is intriguing -- shared minds, thoughts, emotions, vision, etc -- yet you still have them as two? Why doesn't Harry's anger become Ginny's? (as their happiness was one earlier)
'Ginny, what happens when one of us has to use the loo?' -- -- though I don't think they'd be thinking about something else and jumping jacks; curiousity would win out; besides they already know what each other looks like (or at least how each other thinks they look)

Perspective is a major theme of this story and series.

The loo thing is not so much about vision as it is about sensation. Do you know what it feels like for someone of the opposite gender to use the bathroom?

Looks interesting so far. I like your idea of Harry and Ginny completing each other's aspects.

Thank you. The question, of course, is what they are once they've completed each other.

Everything I want to say I can't say as it relates to things that are to come but that aren't posted here yet. It's just seeing the beginnings of certain "issues" already. Vague enough for you? Meh. Still, it's fun to watch the beginnings of them sorting themselves out and just how little awkwardness there was from the get go. It's as it was supposed to be, and they felt comfortable with that.

Vague enough for me? Sure. Vague enough for Josh? Never. But I know what you mean. Tick . . . tick . . . tick . . .

A re-posting gives me an excuse for a re-read. Shifting the sides on my Rubik's Cube has lead to countless variations of one, but you might eclipse it with this series. Even if colours never change hue, they do find new normal positions when united into a group of one.

Cheers,
Joel

You've upgraded from a coin to a cube, eh? That's progress of a sort. Glad to see you still enjoy the story and find food for thought in it. And have you been talking to Josh, perchance? Thanks!

I've read a couple of AU's with this theme and so far this looks just as good or better. How often between udates do you think?

Well, the next 17 chapters have been posted elsewhere and are waiting for PS beta. I don't think there will be much of a wait for those, given how wonderful she's been. Once PS catches up with the story, new chapters will come along every 2-3 weeks on average. Thanks for reading!

Yay!! I'm so glad that you're posting this here so that even more people will have a chance to see this wonderful story. I can't wait to see the reviews to see what others think. Speaking of which, I see that Josh is back to doing his "interestingly phisophical" reviews. ;-)

Hi Miri! Do I get to enjoy all of your reviews again?

"Interestingly philosophical" is just about the nicest thing you could call Josh's reviews. Glad to see a familiar face!

I am so happy that this story is here. I gave up trying to read and review at SIYE as it kept disconnecting.

This premise is really great and I am looking forward to your continuing point of view. It is really good!

I just love some of the phrases, wonderfully contradictory and yet perfectly correct. Just take the following example:

Harry Potter was alone, and he had a companion.

I felt that perhaps Ginny and Harry became at ease with their connection a bit too quick, BUT on the other hand if it felt that RIGHT, like it was supposed to be then maybe they would be that at ease. The jury is still out on that one, but please bear in mind that if it is a gripe it is a very minor one. The interaction of the bonded people with their different surroundings is well written and occasionally very funny:

Harry thought he could understand that, even if he did not like it. Yeah, nobody would want me in their daughter’s head.

Seriously hooked on this wonderfully quirky, well-thought out, well-written and alternative take on the Harry Potter story.

Thanks for writing and sharing this!

Hmm. They did become used to it quickly, but that was deliberate on my part. I don't know that the reason will ever be stated clearly in the story, but the clues are in the prologue.

Don't worry, there's a lot more on the way. Thanks!

Meaning of One, Part One: Stone and Fire
You're travelling to another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound... but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land, whose boundaries are only that of the imagination... you're entering... the Twilight Zone ...

The key here is mind, naturally. Just whose mind is it? Is it One mind in Two, or is it Two minds in One? If Harry can see Ginny's past, and Ginny sees into Harry's past, will that combine to make a new past, or an old future? If Harry stands on One side of the international dateline, and Ginny on the other, will they see the future and the past more clearly than any Seer? And how much peripheral vision will they experience before realizing that a literal four eyes can be rather disorienting?

Will they daydream jointly, or individually? Will the perception of reality be skewed since their respective thoughts will mingle to make One impression? Or will they maintain dual citizenships across the Magical and Muggle worlds?

Puzzles that have no pieces are always the most interesting.
Wednesday 17th January 2007 18:09Meaning of One, Part One: Stone and Fire (Author Response)
This is not a puzzle with no pieces. It's a puzzle with one piece. The trick is to find the right place to put it within itself.

What an interesting concept. And what a coincidence that the first three chapters of your story of Harry and Ginny are being published on the same day as the first two chapters of mine.

My Harry and Ginny meet long before King's Cross and are not as connected as yours but I am looking forward to reading more.

For the timing, you'll have to consult my fairy god-beta. Poor thing is working through the other 17 chapters of this story that have been posted elsewhere. So more is on the way!
