Cute story, interesting look at a future view. Poor Hermione though! You really could go further along these lines and have a great flashback story. Hope to see more! |

oh my god. this story made me cry i cant be reading fan fiction that has this type of angst in it yes it is good but wow you and the outer that helped wright this must have at least got a little upset. and i realize how horrible it is to be made a painting(a living oneish). i cam across this story by accident i was looking for harry/Ginny romance but i found the oppeset end instead its like...well having your sole mate taken away right in frunt of you like what append to harry n Ginny in the story that 1 thing i really didn\'t want to read but oh my god. its amazing yes but you could of at least put a warning in the summary about the level of angst in it. and there was. i like hermione and i hated the way she was treated in the books but having her this upset is beyond cruel...yah i no its only a story but that do sent mean that theirs an alternate universe were this is exactly happening....and im an emotionally time boom.....(er bad life and all i sympathize with Ginny she has six brothers iv got five sisters eep and no brothers so having grown up with sisters kinda make me weak against stuff like this).....so after crying for a few mins id like to say bravo and looking for ward to anouther story of yours. shame theirs not a story were harry&Ginny actual didn\'t die but just got stuck in between the living and the dead but then re-appeared exactly were they were sapost to die but only its twenty or so years latter and hermione has started her new role has headmistress and then harry and Ginny re-appear then she helps the return to back to there time perod to sixty mins after tom dies and then skip to the beginning of the story of this tale but the portrait of Hermione is different its a very happy Hermione now instead of the miserable one that was there in the story oh and harry gives the letter to Ginny so that means theirs two portraits in the school one for harry and one for ginny you no like a hero shrine or thank you that way the happy portrait of Hermione can talk to them. ok i feel better now now that iv made up a extra ending to this..okies bye and good night. oh and i wounder what it would look like for the hermione to talk to a portrait of her self that\'s gota be a really big argument. |

This story is probably one of the most exceptional stories I've read. The genius of the climax of the second war is so amazing. I'm just thankful that JKR didn't have the audacity to kill Harry and Ginny in such a sad way. Overall absolutely amazing. |

Thanks, Emily. I'm sorry you're a wreck. Well, not completley sorry. Truly I was in tears while writing parts of this story, so I kind of like it when the readers are in tears too. ~Ken |

Wow, great story, very powerful. I always enjoy reading about things like this, where people in the future read and study the events surrounding Voldemort in a similar manner to how Harry himself studied the Goblin Wars. There aren't too many stories like this out there, and I think this is the best of them that I've come across.
Kudos,

Thanks, CT. That's high praise. The distance between the present and the future was essential for this story, because the theme is loss and memory. ~Ken |

Well I must say when I read the prologue I thought I don't like this story then I found there where more chapters and the main part proved me right it was perfect. The Epilogue was lovelly and emotional, all I can say now is that I loved the story, you delivered an other nice piece of work. Thanks |

Thank you very much. Yes, the Prologue by itself doesn't amount to much, although I think it's exciting. |

aww did you have to make them both die? thought that is a bit hypocritical seeing as the first fanfic i wrote had the final battle where ron and hermione and ginny die, and then harry commits suicide 5 years later. cheerful eh? then when i tried to write a follow-up, i was stuck because i\'d killed too many people. and here i am saying yours was too sad! it is a great story though, i really enjoyed it (even if it was sad) |

Beautiful! I love all the bits and pieces of it. The way passion, love, and hate are just anecdotes in history. The torment Hermione the portrait feels. Linda's writing. Everything is excellent.
P.S. Happy birthday. St. Margaret sent me here. |

I'm glad you gave us a glimpse of ... um ...the outcome of Linda's work with Hermione's portrait. This is much more than just a school work, it raised very deep and challenging topics. As for the letter, AWESOME: simple but straight to the heart Again, BRAVO !! |

I have just read the response to my review, as well as the epilogue. You were right - I loved what Linda wrote. I loved the whole chapter, the letter especially. It is ironic that Harry wished Ginny never got to read his letter - what can be considered as his last wish was fulfilled in a very bittersweet way. Then again, I would like to believe they met each other again.
Cannot find a fault with this. Truly excellent work. |

This is splendid. It resolves the conflict in a unique way. Your older Hermione is very realistic.
So if you get fired for trashing the Headmaster's office, Beaubatons will still hire you? That is too funny.
And Harry's letter is classic. What a romantic story, after all. |
Saturday 27th January 2007 10:27 | On the Headmaster's Wall (Author Response) |
Thank you! I know, it seems that Beauxbatons has lower standards, doesn't it? Actually I think it's more a matter of the rivalry: Beauxbatons wants to grab up whatever Hogwarts missed, and what do they care about the Hogwarts portraits? (Or maybe I'm just deluding myself, but I really wanted her to continue to be a working academic (otherwise it seemed unlikely that she'd get the book published...)) ~Ken |

Oh that was a lovely epilogue. I love that Linda did listen to Hermione and start researching the War properly. And that finally she found a way for Hermione to be free of her misery. And the letter was beautiful and wonderfully Harry.
You have a great talent for slipping fluff into the unlikeliest places! |
Saturday 27th January 2007 10:24 | On the Headmaster's Wall (Author Response) |
High praise indeed. I think if I were more comfortable writing straight fluff I might not need to sneak it into the middle of angsty stories. But maybe I'm more of a "flangst" writer? All love stories contain the germ of a tragedy, and tragedies are tragic mostly because of lost love... ~Ken |
eaglesnest Saturday 27th January 2007 00:04 | On the Headmaster's Wall |
I am so glad I read this story. The thought that a future student (then teacher) would stumble onto this new information from Hermione and then discover the letter to Ginny is just so romantic ....... love does bridge time and in this story, the greater population will be so much the richer for it. |

I've got a lump in my throat the size of a Quaffle after reading Harry's letter to Ginny. I'm really glad Linda found it and was able to have it authenticated by the portraits. As for her "euthenasia" of Hermione's portrait, I'm glad she did it. Living with such unhappiness must have been unbearable for Hermione and I think the portrait was justified in asking Linda to destroy it, just as much as Linda was justified in completing the act. Thank you for a truly enjoyable and heart-wrenching tale. I hope you'll have another story up in the near future. |

Thank you so very much. It means more to me than I can say that you were moved by what I wrote. I have another three-chapter story, Counting to Five Thousand, which I plan to post (again one chapter at a time) during the next week or so. I'm also working on a one-shot, The Torch, that may take a while longer to finish. Finally, I have a long-term plan for a 22-chapter fic called Returning Were As Tedious; the protagonist of that story is Severus Snape, and if you recognize the source of the title you'll have some idea of what the story will be like. ~Ken |
