Nice party -- I like how Dumbledore susses out what is going to happen: first warning Harry that Hermione is running to him and then telling Hermione that she's going to be asked some questions.
And it appears Harry does have some awareness of his possession after all?

My star charts seem to say that in late July, Orion and Canis Major rise at three a.m.-ish. (And if there's anything on the eastern horizon, it's another hour or two before they can be seen properly, by which time it's getting light.) The party didn't go on that late, did it?

Speaking of stars, I am highly amused to note that Bellatrix is apparently Orion's shoulder. I notice the Hunter neglected to mention that at Imbolc.

About the Head letters: For one, your formatting's gone screwy there, it's alternating between indented and not-indented and Arial and user-font-of-choice. For two, I can see Dumbledore anticipating the hugging and squealing bit and the challenge to Hermione, but how did he know Hermione would be flying at Harry just as he got to the final postscript, and how did he know she'd be coming from Harry's right?

And there are no other wizarding schools in the British Isles. Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang might be the only ones in all of Europe. (Though since Durmstrang doesn't admit Muggle-borns, maybe not.) I wonder if Charlie's title is a holdover from the discontinued All-Europe Inter-School Quidditch Championship. (And if it is, why wasn't it mentioned in Quidditch Through the Ages?)

I'm speechless.  (...)  I've regained my ability to think, somewhat at least, and I'm just as awed as I've been over the previous chapters.  The last 24 hours have been quite eventful for young Mr. Potter, no wonder he's knackered.  Dumbledore's slight prank, the way he managed to cement Hermione's reputation as the smartest witch at Hogwarts (and quite the book worm, with an amazing ability to memorise) was a really nice hint at why the twinkle in the old man's eyes is there.

The characterizations are just as wonderful as ever.  I do so look forward to enjoying the rest of this story.  One small thing - I thought you couldn't see Orion in July?  (Have to ask my astrofreak hubby, but he's asleep).  Though, with Harry's newfound abilities, I guess he can see the stars he wishes to see, right?  Even if he should be on the other side of the earth to be able to do so...

Thanks so much for sharing, I really love this!

This is a great story, very much worth rereading. May I note, however, that neither Orion nor Canis Major (I presume those are the constellations Harry's looking at here?) are visible over the summer, unless you're in Australia.

Here's my running commentary:

Head Boy, eh? Hm. I wonder how you'll define those duties...

Ron as Quid Capt. is pretty much a given, but I'm liking how you did it.

Heh. Hermione knowing all that about Prefects and Head Boys was brilliant. And the explanation of HOW she knew. You are one sneaky writer, you know that?

Touching, that, of Harry's dad being a Head boy. That was a nice touch. bravo.

Gotta love that Gin gets flopped about every once and a while. I'm glad Harry does it.
