Harry and Ginny Come Home
How very lovely. I loved the story. The changing POV was a little disconcerting but once I got used to it was very effective. Where to I go to read about the courtship, wedding and why they were abroad for a year?
Thanks

I'm amazed you could follow any of it at all if you hadn't read The New Zealand Chronicles. You can find it here http://www.phoenixsong.net/fanfiction/story/4154/ (warning - I wrote it before Deathly Hallows, so there are many canon inconsistencies.)

Thanks for reading!

I'm glad you liked NZC - I spent six months writing it and then of course DH came along and made it AU. I still like my version where Hedwig and Fred and others are alive. Sorry it took me so long to respond. We moved and my email address changed, so I didn't know I had reviews. Thanks for reading!

What a wonderful story, I loved the way you told it from so many people's point of view, an unusual but nice twist.

I'm not going to say anything about you putting Fr...never mind others will already have mentioned it! But it doesn't detract from a truely well written story!

Lovely and Delightful.
I like how you give everybody's perspective.

Yes, there's an epilogue - it's with my beta now. And there is a whole other chaptered story about Ron (that I'm still writing) Hopefully, DH won't mess me up too bad with Ron's story. I'm glad you liked this - I wasn't sure about the PoV shifts, but they were fun to write.

So sweet! So lovely! So utterly fluffy!

And so obviously you. I'm glad Sheralyn and Co. showed us the woman behind the curtain... ;-)

I'll just fling more rose petals in your path, Dearie.
As lovely a bit of fluff as I ever did see.
Quite up to your usual standard of fluff-excellence.

A beautiful, funny, heartfelt story, full of real emotion...

What more is there to say? Harry finally has a home, and a family, and as Fleur says, now there will be one more Potter in the world.

A perfect ending - it's finally come full circle.

Thank you for creating this amazing storyline. I started reading this a few days ago and realized that I had to go back and read The New Zealand Chronicles first and I am so glad that I did. It took me three days or so to read and I simply loved the new characters and storyline that you built for Harry and Ginny. I would love to see more stories come out of this universe. You're so imaginative and eloquent in your writing.
Thursday 12th July 2007 18:52Harry and Ginny Come Home (Author Response)
Oh, I'm glad it didn't get tiring to read after three days! It's so long! There are other stories from this universe - you can check them out on my author's page. I should have the epilogue up next week (just in time before DH) Thanks for reading and for letting me know! (Oh, and Sherry's story, Hearts Afire is just lovely. I think you'd like it)

Wonderful, as always.

Mother's do know, don't they? We had not seen my newly married sister for a couple of weeks. Mother was sitting at traffic light and my sister crossed the street. Mother called her that evening and asked her if she was pregnant. She went to the doctor the next day and confirmed it.

This was delightful, Mary. If it had been entered in the Challenge, IMO, it would certainly deserve to win.

The sequential, rotating, multiple first-person is very hard to pull off, because since your narrative voice is a character voice you have to change that voice every few paragraphs. You did really well at it -- especially Fleur's, Molly's and Arthur's voices came through loud and clear. The only place I noticed any bumps in the voice was Hermione's "Who am I kidding?" That didn't quite sound like her to me.

The best part of your voicing choice is that we really do have the sense of a crowd, a community, a family, all excitedly coming together and thinking about the same thing. It's like we're in a room with all these people and they're all talking at once. Marvelous.

The sense of love and nurture, the sense of belonging, is palpable. We can feel how much these people all care for each other. And I can't think of a better place (other than alone in the bedroom ) for Ginny to tell Harry about her preganancy -- in the middle of a gathering of the most fecund family in Wizarding Britain. What a pleasure.
Thursday 12th July 2007 04:34Harry and Ginny Come Home (Author Response)
I had a heck of time getting on this site yesterday, so my response to your kind review is late.

I think comparing fics. is apples and oranges - like I said, it's a different animal that tells four stories at once and one that just tries to evoke a feeling with very little story. As long as I achieved what I set out to do, then I'm satisfied. And the fecund (love that word) Weasleys just make me happy, so it was fun to include all of them.

I've been terrible at actually writing reviews, but before DH comes out, I wanted to say that I really loved your New Zealand Chronicles and all the stories in the NZC chronicles. I'm really looking forward to the epilogue, even though it means it's over, but I know it will make me happy and be wonderful, very similar to what I imagine I'll be like after reading the end of the HP series.

This was great. Being a Hermione fan the first scene was the best, for me; even if you're not writing H/Hr - how much would it take to convert you? :-) - I loved the deep Trio-strength friendship you highlighted with just those few sentences of Hermione's thoughts. "No one else but Harry would understand ..." ... even if R/Hr is a 'good team' it was good to have a reminder of the slot Harry occupies in the Trio.

It's always a unique/quaint flavour of 'magical mechanics' that you establish in your stories. While I didn't much like Ginny's magical ambulance in NZ - I thought you tied it, its engineering with charms and the like, too tightly to its muggle counterpart - I really enjoyed the smaller-scale bits of everyday magical life that you incorporated here. Biting tongs being the 'natural enemies' of meat mallets. :-) The lion-head newel post. A really excellent extrapolation of JKR's world of talking mirrors and other everyday objects that have a unique magical ability which tickles the fancy of this particular muggle.

Great little story, thanks!

You'll see more of Hermione in the real epilogue to this story (I just wrote this for the contest) and hopefully you'll like her there, too. I do love her friendship with Harry. And I do love JKR's magical world - my favorite chapter in CoS is when Harry visits the Burrow for the first time. He should have a house just as magical. Thanks for readnig!

I loved your use of alternating points of view in this. Especially wonderful to me was Arthur's few paragraphs. i can attest as a recent first-time grandfather that there's nothing the little one does that isn't a delight. i can completely understand happily letting him do things that would have earned my daughters a scolding.

Usually it's your dialogues that sparkle. Here it's the internal monologues that are brightly polished. Hermione's quiet pride, Ginny's nascent joy, Penelope's contentment -- all take substance and form here. Well done, and thank you!
Monday 9th July 2007 18:21Harry and Ginny Come Home (Author Response)
I like Arthur as a character a lot and I had fun thinking of him babysitting Phillipe. Grandparents get to have an all together different experience than they did as parents. I know I'll love it, too even though I've got a good twenty years or so to go. (I've been in training my whole life - LOL)

All that inner dialogue was a risk - but I thought I'd give it a whirl for the contest. It's fun to experiment. Thanks for reading and your thoughtful review!

A lovely story, and good fun guessing who the various speakers are. for what it's worth, though, I found Harry's last monologue superfluous and anticlimactic. It would have been better to let everyone have just one and end with Ginny -- perhaps slightly extended as they share a look and she realizes that he knows.

Wow!!! I love the way you wove this story of so many voices, each of them easily recognizeable!!! Characterization is definitely your forte! And what a lovely homecoming. We'll see more of our favorite family as their story continues to unfold, I hope!

Oh my God, I loved this! Thank you so much for adding a sequel! My favourite part was when Harry could tell that Ginny was pregnant just by paying attention to her and then . . . that look! YAY! Sweet, well thought out, and brilliant done as always!

This is sucha great story. I have enjoyed every chapter. It is so nice to see Harry and Ginny happy together and now they are expecting a baby. As Harry says, "I can hardly wait."
I really like the happy ever after stories. I also enjoy the "after several years later" stories that round out the "happy endings." I would love to see a detailed epilog to this story. A few details like "where Harry and Ginny found their dining room table and chairs. How they argued over the living room couch. What pictures they finally chose for the baby's room and how they decorated it. What they named their children and how many they had! That would be fun.
Please don't think I am disappointed in your endind, I am just a greedy reader and would love to see even more of your work. I will be going to your story list to read more of your stories. Thanks for writing. p

I'm glad you like several years later stories, because I'm writing one right now for NZ Chronicles. I hope to have it posted later on in the week. This was just for fun for the contest, since I thought a homecoming was a fitting topic for the theme of anticipation. Thanks for reading!

*sniffle*

*wipes away tears*

This was such a wonderful epilogue for TNZC, I loved it to pieces! The first person pov was perfect and didn't annoy me the way it normally does when I read it in fanfiction, which means you must have gotten it perfectly perfect!

This was so, so wonderful, and it's no wonder the mods were able to pin it as yours right away. But it couldn't be any more perfect that it is right now, you did a wonderful job!

Congratulations on completing TNZC well be DH comes out. It's a comfort to know I have this wonderful series to come back to should our hopes and dreams be dashed in Book 7.

Don't worry - it's not really the epilogue - I just wrote it for the contest, since I thought a homecoming was a great topic for the theme of anticipation. I'm working on the epilogue right now and I hope to have it done and posted late in the week.

I'm glad the first person didn't interfere too much in the story - it's not my favorite to read either, but I was trying to hide my style. Doh! Didn't work.

I'm seriously crying with tears of happiness. What a perfect ending to such a wonderful story. I'm sorry it wasn't able to make it into the competition, but that's probably a good thing. You would have won hands down. Oh that was wonderful, I'm still bawling so I'd better stop this until I can see properly. Well done.

Hmm… is this the real epilogue to the New Zealand Chronicles?

Alright, let me see here. We have multiple POVs, often without a direct reference to whose voice it is. Gosh that is really asking for trouble. But I am embarrassed to say you just made a grown man go squee!

So many different people, yet their individual characters are immediately recognizable. Well except for Penelope, I am sure it is just me but I was almost through her whole paragraph before I smiled and thought ah ha!

“‘We're a good team, Hermione,’ Ron says from his perch on the ladder.” Those canon characters will have private insecurities until the day they die (hopefully a century, or so, after the events of DH). What a marvellous way for Ron to reassure Hermione, and himself, and tell her he loves her; in a mere five words no less.

Harry noticing the trued lines of the fireplace brickwork... I had nothing to do with the construction of my house, but I am proud of the fact that every window, small or quite large, is perfectly plumb. In a dizzying world it is comforting.

Fleur’s paragraph . She and Molly have one very important thing in common. They are the Mistresses of their Households; and Ginny is very much her mother’s daughter. Mistress of a Weasley Household, I’m sure the job of Headmaster of Hogwarts pales in comparison.

OBTW, this merely whets my appetite for your Ron the Builder stories.
Monday 9th July 2007 11:24Harry and Ginny Come Home (Author Response)
Nope, it's not the real epilogue. I just wrote this for the challenge since I thought a homecoming was a great topic for the theme of anticipation. I'm writing the epilogue now - but it's really more of a stand alone story. Hopefully, it will be just as satisfying. I'm glad you enjoyed the touches with Ron and Hermione. I've been thinking and writing about them quite a bit. Fleur is tremendous fun to write. I never realized . . .

Thanks for reading and I hope to make you squee again.

Oh, gosh, wow, I'm going to cry. That was so great!!! But I totally agree, it's completely obvious this was written by you, there's no way it could have gone into the contest. You have such a unique style, I always spot your pieces anyway, though. What a great finale to such a wonderful story. And it does work well as a stand-alone piece, but it's so much more appreciated with the NZ background. Thank you for another great read!

OH, St Margarets! It's perfect. And, of course. it undeniably yours so can't be in the contest. If it were, it would win hands down.

I loved the POV changes. Each of the adult Weasleys gets to star, if only for a short time. I guess Philippe must still think in French. I wonder what he thought about Arthur letting him pull all the tissues out? That was a favorite of my now fifty year old baby girl.

Thank you for bringing Harry and Ginny home and for giving them a baby we can all look forward to. We will be off to the new movie tomorrow at Midnight, then we get ready for the second wedding in our family this week, and finally spend a night and early morning reading the last book. I told Rory that Eddie would be here to play with if we had a real Portkey. I guess Grumpa will have to do.
Monday 9th July 2007 11:17Harry and Ginny Come Home (Author Response)
I'm glad the PoV changes worked - that was the hardest part - trying to make it flow and still keep the voices distinct. When I wrote Arthur's part, I thought of you.

Wow - second wedding in a week and all of this Harry Potter fun. This is a July to remember, isn't it?

What a lovely story. I felt the anticipation and excitement as everyone explained their feelings regarding the appearance of the wayward pair. I snickered at Fred and George's escape route and its first use, my heart was happy that Penelopy and Percy were included in the unpacking of Harry and Ginny's wedding gifts, a giggle escaped me when I pictured Phillipe emtying the tissue box, and I felt a certain pride as Ron and Hermione finished the last details of the molding and remarked on the reason for straightening out the hearth stones (and Harry's noticing that detail made me smile, too.) I hope to read more of Harry's and Ginny's adventures as they explore and discover their fine old/new house. Well done!

I love Fleur's little bit in this -- and the fact that she maybe understands Harry better than Bill.

And Arthur and Philippe reminds me of my dad and my kids. You are so generous and insightful to write something like that.

And I know that one of the conversations whirling about that table was about Fred and George's eventful trip to America!

And so many other things -- Hermione is more nervous for Ron than his own narrative seems for himself. And Harry does notice the fireplace first and even though Ginny plans to tell Harry later it all slips out before because he is so observant. I love this -- I always love reading your writing, even though it humbles me.
Monday 9th July 2007 06:56Harry and Ginny Come Home (Author Response)
I think of you as the Fleur expert, so I'm glad you liked it. I think Fleur has always "gotten" Harry. From GoF on she's seen first hand what he's capable of. Bill is just stuck in 'big brother' mode.

LOL - I can't wait to get to F&G's part in Ron the Builder. Now that you're finally settled, I can start picking your brain again.

Poor Ginny - full to bursting with her secret and not being able to keep it in. Thanks for reading! I know you're busy.

Blimey what an ending to a wonderful story that you have created! I like the way that you have given each of the 'family' members a perspective on things as it shows what each is thinking. This I think sets you apart from other writers as you truely create a different perspective.

Beautiful, Mary. Just beautiful.

I love the short snippets -- they so perfectly build the anticipation and, even more, they make us feel that kind of frenzied last minute preparation that happens right before any big event. Brilliant. And even more brilliant--the added surprise at the end.

Well done.

Poor Harry - he lives in the public eye, even though he's so private. He'll just have to get used to it, living within Apparating distance of all the Weasleys. It was fun to think about how everyone was really looking forward to seeing H/G again. Thanks for reading!

Sherylyn is right, of course. This couldn't be anything else but a St.Margarets piece.
(unless you are being truly fred+george'ish and having someone else write in your universe...)

interesting writing style. I was unsure at first, but it flowed quite well. Several times I felt like the individual voices had stopped before I wanted them too, which I think is probably a good thing.

I wouldn't mind a bit if someone else wanted to write in this universe! I was playing with PoV to see if I could mask myself enough, but that didn't seem to work. LOL. I thought the multiple PoVs would be effective for piling up the anticipation, but I didn't know how easy it would be for a reader to follow. This took a lot longer to write than it should have for that reason. Thanks for reading!
