Fabulous. I love the budding romance. You are the best Neville-writer there is. I know from your other stories that you think post-DH Neville would be quite a bit different, more confident, etc. I think he is that here. He would not change entirely you know. I think our early in life experiences and situations continue to have a strong influence on our behavior and feelings throughout our life, no matter how much our life may change or what major events might transpire. We change in small ways over a long period of time. The Neville we see here is more confident because he is becoming sure of his friendship with Hermione (or has learned to be over the past year), sure of his career and his abilities in that area, etc. But throw him into a situation where he is less sure of himself, where he has less knowledge and experience, like romance, and he will fall back into old patterns.

Okay ... enough psychoanalysis from me.

On to read one more chapter before I've GOT to get back to work!

Your Neville-praise means so much. Thank you. When I wrote this it was my intention to show an 'adult' Neville--one who had unmistakably grown up but yet still had insecurities. I'm glad that you spotted that--and yeah, I think you're right--when Neville's nervous he'd automatically fall back into old habits no matter what life changes had happened to him along the way.

Thanks for continuing to read, and for your reviews!

Thanks so much for your review. I'm glad that you liked the interaction so much. Neville is one of my favorite characters.

Thanks also for reading--I know how hard it can be to read a Pre-DH story in a Post-DH world. I'm glad that you've liked the story so far.

Stay tuned...more soon to follow...

Sorry...it took me a while to get my head around the new developments in DH.

The next two chapters are with my beta. The first of those chapters has been edited by both of us so it should be close to posting, the second will hopefully following along not far after. Thanks for being so patient! It won't be much longer now...

You know what I like the most? You're style of conversation. It's so free and flowing, and sound so real. It's not forced. The characters have the breaks and pauses that are actually present in conversation, which makes it so much more real.

You also did a great job with emotion in this chapter. Hermione must really be struggling. I liked Neville. He seemed just like a grown-up version of the Neville we've all come to love.

Thank you. I'm glad that you enjoy this style of conversation. It's fun to write...I've worked really hard to capture the right amount of realism without sounding silly, and sometimes...when all the planets are aligned... I'm successful.

Hermione *is* struggling. Thankfully, she's pretty resilient--but she still has quite a hard slog ahead of her.

Personally, I think Neville is a fascinating character. He's much more capable than he will ever give himself credit for and that's what makes him so *human*. He's such a treat to write.

Thank you for your kind words and for your encouraging review. Cheers!

I never thought about that couple pairing b4.... Is that why you kill Ron off?

Oh, dear. No...certainly not. Ron is too important a character to treat in such a trivial fashion.

This post-Voldemort fic grew out of a writing experiment. It used to be that people were quite certain that Ron would die based on several hints that JKR left in her earlier books--the chess scene, Trelawny's class, etc. But no one ever wrote about a post-Voldemort world without Ron in it--and I can certainly understand why as he's such a lovable character.

Hermione's grief is very real, and she is in no place to consider a relationship pairing with anyone else at this point. It's true that she's become dependent on Neville, but no more than she would Harry if he were around. This story will explore several story arcs -- one of them being Hermione's transition as a character in a non-Ron world. I do hope that you will stick around to read more.
