The Transformation of Ducklings
Ooo, nasty! Trust Draco to turn the whole thing on its head like that - as though he cares so much for Rose! I really love the two very distinct personalities you've given Scorpius and Rose - they're always completely consistent with the wider story you've imagined for them. Lovely little romantic fantasy at the start *sigh*.

How very Slytherin of Draco to use such emotional tactics. I hope that Scorpios will not fall for that crap. Poor kid. Thankfully, you married Draco to a lovely Italian instead of Astoria Greengrass. Hmmmm. She may be alright, too. Who knows?

I have just managed to register and I just want you to know that I have enjoyed this fanfic from the very first chapter. I kept checking for updates.

I think you have flair for romance, drama, tragedy tinged with humour. You certainly know how to balance emotions. Your description of scenes is most engaging.

Well done, you.

Yes, exactly. I'm glad you picked up on that. Unfortuantely, though, he's about to learn that Hufflepuffs don't give up so easily.

Rowling's revelation about Draco's wife is the only post-DH bit of interview canon I'm sorry to have, because I love trying to incorporate interview canon into my fics but Grazia is too crucial to the whole tone of this fic for me to replace her with Astoria. Oh well - maybe next time.

I was so touched by your review, and very flattered you took the trouble to register. I've had a wonderful time writing this fic and am so pleased you enjoy it. Thank you very much.

Oh dear, I really hope Draco hasn't just thrown a huge wrench in the works. Scorpio and Rose both deserve to get what they want. I really like him. Great chapter I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I totally agree that Scorpius and Rose deserve some happiness (preferably with each other). I'm glad you liked this chapter!

good question asked, Draco. Now shut up and let the poor kid do what he wants.
Sorry.
I'm getting a littl emad at my fave character!

Your typo made me chuckle - I'm trying to imagine someone being "e-mad." Poor Draco, he's just trying to look out for what he thinks are his son's best interests.

The Transformation of Ducklings
Why should Draco be so concerned about his parents' opinions? He was willing to marry Grazia even if she had been muggleborn. It was his father's prejudices and poor judgement that has led to the Malfoys being outcasts in British wizarding society and the loss of the family fortune; and likely it was only the nonparticipation of Lucius in the Battle of Hogwarts and Narcissa's help of Harry that kept Lucius out of Azkaban.

The question can be turned around, what about the reaction of the Weasley extended family to a Malfoy? How would they react to Rose fancying the son of a Death Eater? I'm sure that Grazia is much more impressed that Hermione can overlook Scorpius' Malfoy/Black parentage although it is a good thing that the Malfoys no longer live at Malfoy Manor ('When I was last here I was quite taken with the decor while I was being tortured by Draco's aunt, the same one who killed her cousin and her niece').

What happens when Harry and Ginny find out about James' behavior towards Scorpius? Harry despises bullies and worse than any anger that Harry would display to James would be his overt disappointment in his son.

Because when it came to Grazia, Draco was thinking with his downstairs head, not the upstairs one. Draco's parents kept a very close eye on him when he was growing up, so naturally they'd be just as interested in Scorpius' upbringing; in addition, sticking together as a family was what got them through the debacle with Voldemort, so again it makes sense that the family would remain close-knit, especially since they are, for all intents and purposes, outcasts.

As for your other questions, about the Weasleys reaction to Scorpius and Harry's reaction to James' behavior, that will be dealt with in later chapters.

Thanks for reviewing!

Ooh - ouch. Draco is certainly an odd character, isn't he? Still looking forward to the next chapter, especially Scorpius meeting Ron and Hermione.

I don't know if I'd call him odd so much as looking out for what he thinks is best for his son. You shouldn't have to wait as long for the next chapter as you did this one.

Draco's just looking out for his son's best interests. Glad you liked it! An update shouldn't be too far off.
