Lost in Transfiguration
Nice touch with Hermione coming into the picture. I really was initally surprised by the Weasley family's decision to stay away but after thinking about it more, it made sense as they'd already lost a child and by forcing the issue with Ginny, and knowing how stubborn she is, they may have thought it was push her away totally, they may have ended up losing another!
Keep it up, it's a great story!

Cool. Really cool. I put off reviewing the previous two chapters because I wasn't sure what my opinion was. Glad I waited, because this chapter sealed the deal. I really like the way you're progressing the story at this point.
At first I didn't really get Ginny and some of her behaviour, especially when she and Harry started getting close after they'd only so recently 'met'. But this chapter seems to show really clearly her internal conflict and really helped me get inside her head. Now I'm really feeling for her, not thinking she's just being a petulant teenager.

I also really liked the exposition about the Obliviate potion. Not only was your description of magical theory totally believable (it just sounded right), but the 'plot dump' section moved at a really good pace. I appreciate that you're not dragging out the 'suspense' for ages, only to have answers suddenly appear out of nowhere. The classroom scene was set up fantastically, and a perfect example of how you've progressed the story so far at a pace that keeps your readers interested and engaged, and not bored or impatient. Congratulations!!
I'm off to read more : )

Wow, I can't believe that it's taken me so long to respond to this review. I am so sorry!

No one really seemed to catch that did they? I would have thought that Hermione would have jumped on it, but maybe she was too embarrassed by other things.

Thanks! Not exactly flooding, more like some pieces are still left in there somewhere. They are going to be hard to get back, and as one poster has already pointed out, should they even try?

Thanks again for your comments!

I've been thinking about the characters in this story quite a bit, and it is a tribute to your writing skills that your story compells me so. Anyways, I've come to the conclusion that Ginny does not love Harry. Ginny's feelings for Harry are quite the same as Snape's feelings for Lily. Snape said he loved Lily, and he might have even convinced himself of that, just as Ginny has convinced herself that she loves Harry. She doesn't love him, she covets him. His feelings and desires are completely unimportant to her. Her desire to have Harry in her life, under the conditions that she wants him, are more important to her than his needs, his desires, or his well-being.

She sought out Harry, and finding him healthy and happy, decided that she needed to totally disrupt his life so that he can return to hers in the way that she wants. Harry was asked to leave by Ginny and never come back. He was shown by the Weasleys that he was not truly a part of their family. As a result he chose to leave the Wizarding World entirely. Later, after having changed her mind, she and they decided to get him back however they could rather than accepting the consequences of their actions and choices.

In fact, Harry decided that his bad memories so outwieghed the good ones of that world that he would be better off wiping those memories out and starting fresh, without the burdens that his past placed on him. She has absolutely no respect for his decisions and unilaterally decided to destroy his life once again. That is quite a selfish act on her part and not the action of a person towards someone they love. She didn't want Harry to be happy without her. She wanted him in her life more than she wanted him to be happy, just as Snape was willing to murder Lily's husband and son in order to possess her. Not acts of love but acts of covetousness.

As for my statement about Harry never being a part of the Weasley family, go back to the events you describe after the memorial service. Harry is asked to leave the family alone to greive in private. Let us assume for a second that the fates of Fred and Harry were reversed. Say Harry had died in the final battle and Fred survived. Fred was asked to speak at the service in rememberance of Harry. Would the Weasleys have sent Fred away so that they could mourn Harry in private? Of course not, Fred is family. Harry isn't, he is an outsider. Whatever Percy said might have been harsher than what Molly would have said but regardless the Weasleys sent Harry away so that the family could mourn in private, because Harry was not truly a part of their family.

Was Hermione allowed to stay? That defines the difference in how the Weasleys think of the two.

It also shows a good deal about how the entire Wizarding World, including the Weasleys, think about Harry. Harry was cursed to be responsible for the destruction of Voldemort, therefore he is also held respponsible, even if it is subconsciously, for the destruction Voldemort causes because harry didn't kill him sooner. On some level, the Weasleys blame Harry for Fred's death. It seems Percy blames him a bit more than the rest but still they all, in some manner, hold him responsible. With that in mind, can you blame Harry for wanting to wipe out his memories?

So now that the effects of the Obliviate Potion are unravelling, how will Harry react to being forced to re-enter the world he was asked to leave? Will he be glad that Ginny and the rest of the Weasleys regret their actions or will he be angry that once again he is being used to fulfill other people's desires with absolutely no respect for his own?

First, let me apologize for the delay in responding to your comments. I was out of town and did not have a chance to look at the reviews. I sincerely appreciate your comments. Even though this is my first story, I've found that comments like yours are one of the greatest pleasures in posting. You obviously put some time and effort in thinking about the story. Thank you.

As for your comments themselves, I have to say I haven't considered many of your points before. I started the story with the innate assumption that Harry returning to the Weasley's and working things out was overall the best thing to happen and never really questioned that assumption. However, you bring out many good insights and have forced me to reevaluate many things as I go forward.

A few comments now, and probably more later as I digest more of what you said. Snape showed a pattern in dealing with Lilly his entire life that ultimately bears out your conclusions regarding his true feelings for Lilly. I believe that with Ginny it is different.

Bear in mind, that as the readers we have perfect hindsight and insights into thoughts and emotions that would not be available from Ginny's point of view at any given time. From Ginny's view point she made a mistake, terrible yes, but in the end forgivable. That one mistake, coupled with the already emotional stress that Harry would have to be going through due to other things, led Harry to also take extreme action.

If I, in a moment of weakness, chased away someone I truly loved I think that I would do whatever it took to find that person, even it was only to apologize. Although the goal was to bring Harry back, I think if you read chapter 1 it seems that the methods of bringing him back are through apology and reconciliation, both of which require Harry to want to participate. This is pretty much all she knew when she started her quest.

Again, when she finally found him she made some choices that I agree could be cast in a very selfish light. I also believe that they could be cast in a different tone. Ginny had been taking beginning Healer courses and already knew that something was wrong with Harry. Notice again her initial goal is to find out if he needed help or at least WHAT caused the problem in the first place.

Does she do other things that are poorly thought out or selfish? Yes she does. I like to think that she is, like all of us, not perfect. Has she paid for her mistakes? I would say yes so far and she will continue to do so.

As for the rest of the Weasley family and the Wizarding world regarding Harry with the same taint, as bearing some of the guilt if you will, of Voldemort. Well I have to agree. I think they all realize that mistakes were made, but all they can do is think about the future.

Now with Harry's memories and magical state unstable it seems the choice has been taken from everyone. They need to find a way to help. What can they do and how will Harry react?

I still need to think more on what you said. Thank you again for your insights and for causing me to have to reevaluate my own notions of whats going on. Please keep reading and sharing any other things you see.

Regards,

Andy

So, his memory is still there somewhere. Good news.

I love this story. Regardless, Harry is still going to be mad but he'll get over it.

I liked the part about George and Ron, funny isn't it how she could hear Ron but not notice George's words. LOL

Keep up the good word, love it.

Oooh... veeeeerrry intrieging!
I love this story!
I'm so glad Hermione worked it out but it's so sad with all the memories and Harry being so confused...

You didn't even say good-bye, you incredible .

The first bit of this sentence made me cry, and the second bit made me laugh. Love the idea of an 'incredible '!
Thanks for a great update! B
