Well done, Mate! You've done a marvelous job of setting the tone for the year. I especially liked-
Carefully she lit one of the matches and held it up against the light before picking up the letter in her other hand. Within seconds it caught light and she let it fall into a bowl as it shrivelled up into ashes. Emptying the contents out the window, she let all her disappointments and longings fall with the remains of the letter. There was no time for all of that; there were much more important things than a broken heart. |

Oh, I love your Ginny! You got her feelings about her family's protective treatment so right! And I enjoyed the letter(s) she wrote to Harry as it's something I would do in my teenage days :-)

Like everyone else, I have been waiting for someone to tackle this story although I haven't dared try it myself. As I said below, I am positive that Ginny had a harder year. She was in direct contact with Death Eaters on a daily basis and while she may not have helped herself at times, she was a key target before that - a Weasley bloodtraitor, Harry Potter's girlfriend and a good friend of a missing mudblood.
It's so good to see something from you again. I can't wait to see where you take us. Great job!

Very well-crafted start -- but does a shield charm cause someone on the other side of the shield to be pushed away from the caster?
The other thing that seemed just slightly "off" was Arthur's admonition to Ginny to "don't put yourself in danger" -- after having just told her that "Hogwarts will be a dangerous place" (and knowing that she was headed there). Perhaps were he to have said "unnecessary danger," that would be enough of a modifier to avoid the apparent inconsistency?
But other than those quibbles, the story so far is exceptionally well done, and I look forward to seeing what you do with it. |

Thank you for your review and as always I'm always happy to address questions.
First the shield charm. I am positive that JKR was asked once in an interview why expelliarmus was able to knock Snape out in POA when it is only a disarming spell and she replied something along the lines that it was do to the force and energy put into the spell. Therefore in my reconding a shield charm used with force would act similar to a forcefield and just like with the x-men be able to force people back in this case knock them into a window.
As for Arthur's words, perhaps unneccessary danger would have been a better phrase. But I believe that Arthur is telling her in those words not to put herself in dangerous situations as Hogwarts is already a dangerous place for her to be and he is very right in this situation. I hope that makes sense.

She felt Demelza's warm hand grab her shaking one. She hadn't realised how much it was shaking until it was in the calm, still hand of her friend. Excellent imagery here. I hope we get to know Demelza a little more through your story. I look forward to seeing your vision of the DH year through Ginny's eyes. |

evil Death Eaters! written so well with lots of evil foreboding. I look forward to your version of that year from the inside - I always thought that the ones that stayed at Hogwarts had the worst of it, really Harry, Ron and Hermione got off lightly in comparison from the hints we got from DH.

I've always had that opinion too. Yes the situations that Harry, Ron and Hermione faced were more dangerous but they were much less frequent that the ones faced by the others. |
