Well tonight we had to say goodbye to a special friend she was the sweetest kitty I've known, so full of energy and love for us she helped to laugh and gave us love and she literally watched over Jedi Jr. The times that he was sad or hurt she always ran to him to give him love. She used to drag his dirty socks out when she was lonely or wanted attention she was very special and she will be missed. There is some scripture that suggests that pets do go to heaven. I remember our Pastor saying something about it in service. I don't know the exact verses, but I do take comfort in that. So our friend, our precious Bast I look forward to seeing you again and playing with you once more. Thank you for being there for us Bast, Farewell.

I've had to say goodbye to several of my babies over the years and it never gets any easier, but I do know that their spirits can linger on where their loved.
When I lost Robinton to a violent seizure that casued irreperable brain damamge, I know that on several occasions his ghost snuggled up on my bed with me as I could feelt he wieght and warmth of his body and yet I knew he wasn't there.

In addition, we have to take our other kitty in to get checked, to see if she has the same disease that Bast had. Doing that this Saturday. If she is clean, we need to take her back in in 3 months.

I am very sorry about your loss. I hope with the support of all of us at the Song, you will be able to feel at least a little bit better.

I lost several kitties over the years to feline leukemia--it's in our soil. I finally had a vet tell me to get all my cats neutered, vaccinated, and keep them indoors. I did. We put Figaro down a couple months ago--he was fifteen years old. My other two kitties are nine and doing fine. Now we have to get the little spitfire my son adopted over Thanksgiving spayed and vaccinated. Hopefully it will be enough to protect her from our soil. Anyway, it's a horrible wasting disease. It's so heart breaking to watch a loved kitty die from it. I hope your other kitty's okay. I'm sure you'll see Bast again.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I've lost a fair few cats myself, so I know how hard this can be. This may sound trite, but as long as you have your wonderful memories, Bast will never truly be gone. I hope that helps.

I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your cat. It's always hard to see a loved one go.
I do believe that there is a place in heaven for animals.

Thanks to you all for your kindness, love and support. It means so much to us. God Bless you All! I think we are all doing a little better today. We are just praying that our other kitty Gypsy doesn't have FeLV. She is high risk because Bast had it. Gypsy is pretty much DADAGinny's kitty, but of course we all love her and we would be crushed to lose her too.
Anyway thanks again to you all.

I lost my baby, Morgan, in Sept., and it's always hard, I don't care how long you've had them or how old they are or whatever. Morgan was only 4 1/2, and we never did know for sure what he had, except that it was a liver disease (the only way to know more concretely was to do a biopsy, and we honestly didn't think he'd survive the anesthesia, etc., by that point, and a "concrete" diagnosis wasn't going to change the treatment anyway).
We have two other babies, too, and even though they're adorable and special in their own ways, Morgan had such a distinct personality... it's just not the same, no matter what.
I hope and pray that your other kitty will be okay, though, and that you won't have to go through this again with her, at least.
*Hugs*!

Thanks so much everyone. I took Gypsy to the vet today, and she is in the clear for now. I am going to take her in again in May.

sometimes the best comfort I have when I think of my pets in heaven is this:
What in all of eternity are St. Peter and Jesus going to do now? Those little ones were spoiled! Let me tell you, if they give God half the trouble they caused here, tearing into laundry and making my family laugh so hard we nearly wet ourselves, then let heaven have them - Lord knows I'm working on more to send on up... kind of like preparation for when I get there - I want to be coverd in dog hair and cat fur with birds on my shoulders when I sidle up to the eternal ice-cream bar myself... Mittins was always fond of french vanilla with doritos on top if I recall correctly.. err...don't ask lol:)

best wishes, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers

Here is something I sent my grammy a little ways back when we had to put down her kitty. It is about a man and his dog, but I think it applies equally well to any animal you love:
A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.
He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.
He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.
After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he saw another gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside ! it. The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," he answered.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope.
That's Hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

Aww, it's so sad to lose a loved pet. My first cat died of a brain tumor, he was crying for days on end before my parents took pity and had him killed. My mom claims that he gave her a "look", like he knew he was going off to be killed, and was happy about it. Our second cat lasted three months, before it too died of an infection that sprung quickly and with force. Our third cat, Lily, is alive. And, jedibookworm, excellent story!
