3: SlippingSlipping
My face is glowing;
I’m still so red.
Why must his presence
confuse my head?
All I was doing
was leaving class,
but I slipped on wet stairs
like a poor little lass.
I did make a squeak
as I tumbled down so,
hoping I didn’t
have too far to go.
As luck would have it,
guess who I’d face?
My poor heart quickened
its already fast pace.
In a manner gentle
and full of charm,
he kindly offered
me his strong arm.
Finally back
on my own two feet,
he bent for my things
without skipping a beat.
With a warming smile
he handed back my books
while his friends looked on
with innocent looks.
Asking now
if I was alright,
he did not see
my inner fight.
I wanted to run
very far away,
but at the same time
I desired to stay.
I think I mumbled
an excuse for something,
so he would not see
my composure slipping.
I left him standing
alone with a smile
that I’ll remember
for quite a while.
