The breakfast scenes with Ginny and her children were quite wonderful. Ginny hugging her children and telling them that they will make biscuits together. Just very nice work Mags. I really enjoyed it. Motherhood sure suits your version of Ginny.
*sighs*.......hehe
Ok on to the next tale. |
daniel_r_crazy22 Tuesday 1st August 2006 20:25 | Domestic Disharmony |
Aww. Poor Ginny. I kind-of figured that Harry would do something like this. And I like the comment Harry made at the end. Very good. |
Bucktavius Monday 17th October 2005 14:19 | Domestic Disharmony |
very nicely done. an excellent expansion of your first story. I really think that you should put them together as chapters. a reshuffle would work quite well. |
Tuesday 18th October 2005 07:52 | Domestic Disharmony (Author Response) |
This really wouldn't work as a chapter tacked on to "A Life Well Lived." The point of these one-shots ("Terrible Burden of Grace" and a R/Hr story only available on LJ also fit into this universe) is to examine a snapshot of Harry and Ginny's adult life in more intimate detail, whereas "Life" simply laid the foundations. I'm glad you enjoyed this one, though; I'm quite fond of it myself. |

jeanne Sunday 12th June 2005 10:26 | Domestic Disharmony |
It was,in answer to the review from Sherylyn, Ron and Mione who started months ago at Harry. No where did you mention, Ginny doing the same, just being hurt cause he couldn,t say a simple "Happy Birthday,Gin.,I love You".By the way ,why can,t she use magic to look better again, since Idon,t think they have plastic surgeons,do they. |
jeanne Sunday 12th June 2005 10:15 | Domestic Disharmony |
Oh my, how I empathise with Ginny. For years I felt the same until one day my hubby said, after once more giving me a too small item of clothing as a gift and being told so by me, "You look exactly the same as when we started going together". Blind ,or love? You sure did that well and if never having been in that position, you still managed tocome up with that, then goodo,as you are very insightful. This was very well done. |
Sunday 12th June 2005 13:33 | Domestic Disharmony (Author Response) |
Oh, that's so sweet of your husband to say that. They do say love is blind.
In answer to your question in the other review, about why Ginny doesn't
just use magic to erase the years, first of all, I don't think such a
long-term spell would be possible without negative side effects, and
secondly, I (personally) find that sort of behavior just as unrealistic
and OOC as Hermione permanently taming her hair and running around in
midriff-baring tops and low-rise jeans. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed
this. Thanks so much for your thoughtful review!

Sweet.
Real.
And very, very risky. My wife's 30th didn't go over well.
I guess it didn't help that I'd put over 200 postit notes on every surface in the house that said "You're 30!"
I paid for it. And so did Harry. I'm glad to see Adult!Harry in this fic - and you nailed his thought processes. Good work. |
Friday 13th May 2005 19:10 | Domestic Disharmony (Author Response) |
You
chose an interesting fic to read after "Captain's Prerogative," because
I think it's the same Harry in both stories, just with nearly 25 years'
difference in age -- still not quite thinking things through and having
to learn a hard lesson because of it. I'm especially glad to hear you
think I got his "voice" down right. Thanks for your review!

I loved it even more reading it this time. (especially since I've been married 26 years this month.) And is Mrs. Martin the muggle farmer's wife's first name Harriet? |
Sunday 8th May 2005 10:29 | Domestic Disharmony (Author Response) |
Thank you so much! I'm honored you came back for another read.
As for
Mrs. Martin, she doesn't really have a first name as yet, though
there's no reason why it couldn't be Harriet. Is there a particular
reason why you think it is?
Thanks for the review!

Right, so this is gonna
sound immature and everything but...theres a LOT to look forward to
when i turn forty isn't there? Gah. Why can't i just turn like...20
somethin and then never age anymore? Double Gah. oh well. Its
better than the alternative i guess. very nice fic, loved how Ginny
acts when she's older. She's like a replica of Mrs. Weasley!!! And i'm
happy that Harry isn't as oblivious and stupid as he seems...

Oh My that was so cute thank you for writing a more human H/G post hogwarts story... i've seen to many "Happily ever afters" that are all sweetness and light and so impossibly sacherine your story on the other hand is so real i can imagine it coming from JK's pen. Thank you. |

Thank you! I'm not a fan of overly sweet stories either -- I'd much rather read something that's more balanced, with a little bit of tart to cut the edge off the sweetness. I'm glad you liked this. Thanks for reviewing! |
itsme07863 Thursday 28th April 2005 23:07 | Domestic Disharmony |
aww sweet. lol. "Sagging breasts, stretch marks, gray hairs and all?"
although isnt he agreeing with that when he says "I wouldn't
have you any other way.". he should say she doesnt or something. lol.
just an observation. but good job, i liked it alot.

Not at all. Harry knows Ginny wouldn't accept anything but the unvarnished truth from him, and he truly does love her just the way she is. I love Harry, have I said that lately? Thanks for your review! |
Sherylyn Sunday 8th August 2004 02:49 | Domestic Disharmony |
Wow... you really nailed the interactions of a long-time married couple and all! It was all wonderfully well done, but I think this part is what especially got to me:
He took a few steps closer to set the wine bottle on the table, then turned and leaned against it with his arms folded over his chest. "I knew what they were on about the instant they opened their mouths. And it hurt. It hurt to think that my own wife reckons I'm too bloody stupid to remember she's turning forty this year, or that I'm too bloody insensitive to realize how much that worries her."
Wow... It really made me think about how often we women do treat our guys as if they're idiots. Yeah, I'm sure some of them are at times, but I'm sure they'd say the same thing if they thought they wouldn't be deprived of rather important parts of their anatomy!
GREAT job overall -- totally!!

I'm actually blushing, but this is the closest emoticon I could find: Your praise means very much to me; I'm so pleased you enjoyed my story. I'm quite fond of Dickie too, but then he's based on my son so I'm a bit biased.
Thanks for writing! |

She could pack a term's worth of Hogwarts supplies in the bags under her eyes. As for the rest of her body....
Great story!

I absolutely loved this! It's a beautiful tale of commitment, and how misunderstandings can almost ruin a relationship. I'm glad it didn't ruin this one, though! |
Wednesday 14th July 2004 13:26 | Domestic Disharmony (Author Response) |
Thank you! I'd like to think after 20+ years together Harry and Ginny can work through simple misunderstandings--that's the beauty of a relationship founded on love and trust.

MM, I just love this. It was just beautiful, and I think you did a wonderful job capturing Ginny's insecurities at turning 40--and with her aging body. I haven't got to 40 (yet), but it's not far away.
Harry was just...sigh. So, so sweet, even if he did make a bit of a mistake in judgement when he made GInny think he forgot her birthday. I like that he wasn't perfect in this story--that he wanted to make her think he forgot because he was hurt himself.
I also love the interaction with the kids. Dickie's coffee was hysterical, and the way you ended the story with Harry commenting on it was perfect.
Beautiful story, MM!

Dear Julie,
Thanks so much for your kind remarks! Several elements of this were inspired by or based on real-life experiences, and I'm so glad to hear they rang true for you. As for Harry...*sigh*. I love Harry, cluelessness and all.
