"Around 150," Snape snapped, a little bemused by the non sequitur. "What has this got to do with Harry?" "Patience, my dear Severus. Actually, I am 162 years old.

This contradicts the MMail conversation between Dumbledor and Dumbledor. There you Said Aberforth was 150 and that Albus was 151, and here you say that Albus is 162.

This story as a whole is one of the most brilliant parodies I've ever read on any subject. I don't know if you're still reading reviews for this, but I did want to point out one little problem in this chapter. When Percy says he's going to be "hoisting my own petard" he's actually saying he's going to pick up his thrown, medieval explosive (that's what a petard is—a medieval hand grenade). The phrase "hoisted by his own petard" means that someone got blown up by his own grenade. I'm fairly sure this wasn't what you were going for here.

In one of the earlier chapters (don't ask which) you said Abe was 150, and that Dumbledore was 1 year older than Abe. In this chapter, you said he was 162 y.o.. How does that work?

My dear fellow; those dates are extremely interesting. They correlate exactly to dates of prominent Death Eater trials. As a famous Muggle once wrote: Something may be rotten in the state of Denmark.

hahahaha funny cause i just read that scene from hamlet today
anyway... back to reading...

This story is very changed from the version on your website, both in numerous details and (I think) in chronology of events. I remember the mental trap happening much earlier than this.

On a beta-ish note (though I don't presume to be one), I was left wondering what Harry and Snape's goal was in joining minds and mentally going after Voldemort, or how they did it. One moment, they were talking about Voldie's love monkey becoming a spy, the next they were saying "I think it might work", with no explanation of what they're trying to accomplish by joining minds, then they "join minds" and are automatically in Voldie's mind.

Awesome proportions. I've written stories with less words.

The thing I don't like is the violence used by Ginny and Hermione. I think it's quite ooc for Hermione, and I don't feel comfortable with it, because it's completely unnecessary.

This Means War!
What happened to all your neat parallelisms those scenes between Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione were perfect for that -- though the endings matched
I like the way McGonagall goes about looking for Harry's animagi forms; better than looking into a misty cauldron or taking a potion (or some such thing like others). Given all the innuendo in this story, I would've avoided the 'Twin up' 'Twin down' part .
Putting Malfoy in Harry's shoes was such poetic justice; 50 points to Professor Snape .
Nice thought that Snape didn't know; though canon (Snape's teaching Occlumency) does indicate that Snape found out at least some of it -- part of why he's such a greasy git in canon .
'You had a similar upbringing to Tom, yet you are the exact opposite of him.' -- now that actually foreshadows Book 6 in a way -- very emotionally powerful scenes here (and here I thought it was all fluff ).
'I am 162 years old' -- yet earlier you refered to his brother (who you described as only a year younger -- 'From: I'm only a year older than you') as an octogenarian -- 'An octogenarian wizard was dancing on the table, joined by two young men with flaming red hair'. Oops .
Can I cry over Lily and James' letter?
O.k. I can see Dudley changing, even considerably but isn't 'it probably couldn't find a nicer hero' going a bit far ?
A cliffy, I see!

'tis a shame.  I fear that ths story has been abandonned and I too must abandon it from my "to read" list.  I was really happy when I originally came across it.  Now, I see that other stories by this author are also long over due for any updates. I guess his "writing bug" has died.

DONT GIVE UP YET HE IS STILL WRITING.  ACCORDING TO HIS YAHOO GROUP CHAPTER 9 IS IN BETA AND IS EXPECTED SOON.  IT IS OVER 100 PAGES.  HIS STORIES MAY SEEM ABANNDONED BUT HE IS WRITING SEVERAL AT ONE TIME AND ALL OF THEM ARE HUGE STORIES WITH HUGE CHAPTERS.

Having read the "Naked Quidditch Match" and following your story, this is a great one.

Then I see that you wrote and updated this chapter August 1, 2004.

What?

I liked EVERY character. The voice was just right -- and loved the YMCA prank. I'm waiting for Harry to use the picture.

The idea of wizard email is good. I like that you don't rely on it, banging it for what it could be. You merely use it to further the story along, giving us some VERY good insights to the Weasleys, Remus and Sirius, the teachers, everyone.

I've lost sleep over this fic -- I'm sad to see that it has ended at this stage! Please! I'll beta it for you, I'll help with any plot ideas you need roughing out - or smoothing. If could, I'd send a box of Honeyduke's chocolates, but that's crazy talk...

This story is, hands down, the funniest HP fic I've ever read. EVER.
Don't let it die a horrible death!

Love it love it love it!!!! This is the ultimate fantasy for lovers of the Wizarding World, not just a particular character...Harry gets to be happy, lots of people get to be good, and they get to do fun normal stuff a lot, as opposed to having to be depressed about the Dark Tosser (brilliant!)

And also, v. funny!

Thank you so much for writing this!

This Means War!

Wicked. It had me rolling around on the floor, it really did. I got some straaaaange looks from my brother, but it was a brilliant story. I haven't laughed so much since... ever. Seriously.

Despish, intolerably despish, enough to get you thrown off a NP HP RP board, but in this story it just... works. The only despish bit that I can't handle is Snape turning so nice, so GRYFFINDORISH. I understand him turning on Malfoy-who wouldn't?-and being angry with the Dursleys, etc, but the bit with the house points and Ginny... Urgh. Despish at it's worst.

I love the rest, though. Couldn't fault a single line. Brilliantly written, thouroghly enjoyable. I couldn't tear myself away from the computor from the moment I discovered the page until I had read it all. Keep it up, I can't bear not knowing what will happen...

This Means War!

Man this is the greatest story of the Harry Potter Universe I have ever read. The idea of using MMails and the banter between characters is unbelievalbe. I love the way Harry finally gets his act together. I am so sick and tired of reading story after story of his pathetic cry baby outlook on life, his murder or be murder way of looking at what he must do.

Your Harry, the way he takes charge, and the way you write him, in being able to do anything cause he doesnt know it cant be done is, THERE'S NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT!

Plus the humour of your story, example: I laughed my +blocked+ off when Fudge came to the DA meeting and Gin went to Padfoots help and was describing how she was going to take care of his problem, the laughing teachers, Snape and of course Sirius reaction to having been told that she had no choice but to take them off, I'm still laughing. And of course don't forget the pranks!

Please you have to continue this, IT WOULD BE THE BIGGEST SIN IN THE WORLD TO LEAVE IT HANGING WHERE IT IS RIGHT NOW!

Needles to say, I shouldnt have to say this but I will, I have read hundreds of HP fanfiction stories from different sites, but yours is my favorite and is going into my favorite folder. There is only a handful of stories in there.

In my opionion sp?, your a much better writer of HP then Rowlins and that is saying a lot!

This is the frist time I've read this story and it is so good!

I'll comment on specifics sometime later in each chapter. Your Harry is so good! I love him so much and you've brought a richness to all the characters that I've never seen before that I truly enjoy!

I love the way some of your stuff comes out of nowhere but is completely in cannon and how you've developed it from there.

I love the long chapters! You are a great writer and it is very easy to enjoy what you have written. Your betas are great too! *cheers*

May the HP Muse keep sending you great inspiration for us to enjoy!

This is undoubtly the best harry potter fan fiction story I have ever read. I laughed so hard, acutally found myself rolling in the aisle after reading this story, I couldnt believe it. your interpretations of the characters was amazing, the inter-action between harry and gin, was extroadianary. and your use of the mmails, all I can say is you have one hell of an imagination.

Oh, wow - that was bloody brilliant!  I've now raced through the whole thing, and oh, do I like this story!  I find I keep saying that about your writing.  Harry is strong, he has amazing powers, a wonderful relationship with Ginny and is respected all over as the incredible wizard that he is.

Your writing is crisp and clear.  There's enough filling to put some great flesh on the bones without making the whole thing overweight.  Nor are you just listing your points.  I like the fact that you have Blaise as a girl, and a very agreeable one at that.  Snape has recovered vonderfully, I do like this Sev far more than the canon one, I have to admit that

All the plot bunnies you have tucked into the stories make sure there's enough going on.  Aberforth and Butterbeer, Butterbeer and Malfoy, Fudge and corruption, Assistant professor!Harry, Gay!Draco, Humble!Dudley... the list goes on and on.

Thank you for taking the time to write this - and please update soon!  That was one nasty cliffhanger you left us with.

Great chapter as always Jeconais.

On you notes at the end...it was recently brought to my attention that there are other Slytherin females, although I haven't researched how much is known about them from cannon. The first is Millicent Bulstrode and the other is Daphne Greengrass.

Hopefully there is enough information on them to allow you to return Blaise back to his normal sex.

I've taken your advice from long ago and signed up here to get daily updates on stories/authors.

I stop by your story section ^ up there to see if the blue bar has gone above 10%. I have re-read "This Means War" many times now--its my guarenteed chuckle for the day. Each time I read it, there are pieces of the story I find that I have forgotten/missed in passed reading. Your work is definately like potato crisps--one is never enough. I hope to see my "bag" refilled soon(aka update please). It will make the chuckle into a hearty guffaw for this fan.

This Means War!

As if we wouldn't...I really hope you didn't actually think that!

I will start by saying that I actually failed a quiz on the Odyssey today because I was too busy reading this yesterday and today. I got home at almost three, got online, and haven't stopped reading this since, and it is almost eight pm. Nice job on being able to actually make me ditch my homework for a fic. That's a definite first.

This story is so awesome. I won't say it's like reading the sixth book because it's not at all but I love your interpretations of the characters, especially the Weasleys. I can hear Ron's voice in my mind and I can see his face, too. I like that you didn't do the cliche` part because especially in this story, it would have been horrible! It's so original and it would be so horrible of you to mess it up like that.

At first, when I read Dudley's email, I was rolling my eyes but I like the idea, actually. And though I don't believe that J.K. ever meant for Harry to be physically abused quite like that (don't even think I'm not glaring at the Dursley's name in the books because of locking Harry in closets....I could go on but I'll spare you the tedious  work of working out the actual meaning to my rants), the way you handled it was absolutely perfect. I have seen one or two stories where Harry is abused to a worse extent than I think probably happened in the real fictional world and yours topped the list in that category. The ones I have read approach it as, oh, poor little boy, glad its over...okay, back to fighting Voldemort. No big. No harm done. As long as he saves us. *Rolls eyes at certain authors in mind*. Thank you so much for bringing a touch of something called REALITY to that kind of situation. People who have just relived that in their minds do not open their eyes and say, "I'm missing lunch!" thank you very much!

I have to say this but in no way is it a flame: I SWEAR! Snape is about as...odd as I've ever seen him and I couldn't love it more. Some parts are truly in character and then others...they're just a grown-up-like Snape. Another reason I enjoyed it is because you actually explained why he was so different from Snape-previous.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter and please, make it as long as you like. My teachers can turn a blind eye, a deaf ear...and a little glue to keep their mouths shut would help too but I don't think that one's going to happen, unfortunately.

I hope the next extremely long chapter that makes me avoid my backpack, mother and teachers like the plague comes out soon!

This Means War!

Another brilliant chapter for a brilliant story.

I hate to say that with the exception of a few stories and I believe 3-4 of them are yours I have become completely fed up with H/G writers.

One of the reasons I enjoy your stories so much is that there is a very believable blend of Humor/Romance/Action/Angst.  I am not a fan of angst.  I understand that great stories have it in there but when that is the whole story it is very frustrating.  That seems to be the path that most every H/G writer has taken and I am hard pressed to find new and exciting stories.

That said I have followed this story along with 'The Fifth House' at SIYE and then found your other stories 'The Empty Nest' and now 'Madness'.

You are an excellent writer and give such interesting detail.........I've never been disappointed in the direction your stories go.

That said the evil cliffhanger ending on this one is just a little scary.  Please, Please save our Harry, oh and Snape.........I like that you gave him a little soul in the fic.

Again, good job and we will all wait with baited breath until you grace us with your next update.......which I hope will be as soon as possible (real life sucks for fanfic readers and writers doesn't it).  Thank you for sharing your work with us.

This Means War!

Status: Incomplete at Review (8 Chapters)
Initial Comments:
I read a lot of fanfiction. A LOT. In fact, 90% of my spare time is spent reading.
I have many origins that I like to read--most of which are Anime-based. However, recently I've really gotten into reading Harry Potter stories.
Originally, I couldn't get into them, but it took three really good stories to change my mind: Psychic Serpent Trilogy, Naked Quidditch Match, and Nightmare Oil.
I'll be the first to say that I really like good Ship stories. My personal preference (as I am very analytical, and I believe that it's more likely the final one) in Harry Potter Ships is H/Hr. This doesn't mean that it's all I read by any means. Of the three stories that got me into HP fanfics, one has both H/Hr and H/G, another is H/G, and the other is H/Hr. Even split. I've read good stories that are H/Tonks, and even Polyamorous stories--I simply like good stories.
I was intrigued by 'Naked Quidditch Match' and the use of 'Mmail'. I really liked the layout of the story, and so when I heard that 'This Means War!' used the same format -partially-, I really wanted to read it too. So, I've tracked it down and done so. Twice. Once reading it aloud to my girlfriend. I must say I really like this story, and I cannot wait to see the completion.

Story / Creativity - 9/10
[ * * * * * * * * * x ]
The storyline is very good and believable. I could really see something like this happening, honestly. For a humor based fic, you must look past all the seriousness that has come out of the HP Canon. I don't mean forget it, but look past it and find the places to put jokes. Bringing in the 'pranking' bloodline within Harry was a very believable way to do this. I can also see Ginny being able to start this, so the creativity and story is well based, and it is something I really haven't seen on this level. I have seen somewhat similar stories, but this one has the unique qualities, adding appropriate new twists, and integrating one idea with others quite well.

Characterization / Use of Source - 8/10
[ * * * * * * * * x x ]
This one is a little more hurt. Yes, I believe the characters--especially Harry and Hermione, are out-of-character. I DO believe, however, that it is done in a believable way. Harry is shocked into a personality change, and Hermione growing up a little being dragged along works well. Many many of the original Canon elements are mentioned and flow in smoothly, although Sirius's survival has just a bit of shaky foundation. Still believable, so it doesn't hurt the score much at all. Well portrayed of all characters, and the changed personalities are even kept very close. I find Fred and George to be portrayed almost perfectly, and Percy to be portrayed exactly right. I can really see the Weasley boys doing this. I really can.

Grammar / Spelling - 10/10
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
Spelling is excellent. Grammar is excellent as well. I have noticed one or two minor--and I do mean minor--grammatical mistakes, but these would not be noticeable to an uncritical eye. Besides, everyone has their own unique writing style, and even I use spellchecking software. I know that no human can catch every mistake, and computers are far from perfect at finding them as well.

Quality / Length - 10/10
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
Story is a very nice length. Currently, even though it is incomplete, it is as long as the early novels. 113K words, plus whatever else is in the next chapters, will bring it up nicely. (Order of the Phoenix, in comparison, is 264,000 words--twice as long, but it is also around twice the length of the earlier books as well.) Writing quality is very good, effectively on par with the original books, while adding in the unique traits of fanfiction. Excellent work.

Theme / Presentation - 10/10
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
The story's theme is that of humor. Good-natured humor surrounded by the continuing life of someone 'destined' to be great. This is held wonderfully all the way through the story. Serious scenes pop up along the way, as one would have to have in a HP fanfic of any length, but these are surrounded by light-natured scenes constantly. Many little cliffhangers, scenes shifting to keep you thinking until you return to find out what happened, keep you reading onward. Wonderful transitions, many timed to break scenes, while others keep going until they are resolved. Molded nicely all around from start to finish.

Fic Rating - Average of the Above Scores
47/50 -> 94/100 -> 94%
Modifier: Incomplete (Automatic): -05%
Rating at Current: 89%
[ * * * * * * * * * x ]
Nine Stars out of Ten

Advice to Author:
I really have no advice, other than I hope to see it finished as quickly as possible. I honestly believe it is as well written as any story could be.

Final Comments:
Definatly in my list of the "Best of the Best" in Harry Potter Fanfiction. I've been reading a lot in the past month, and I've seen a LOT of good ones. In fact, I have probably 30 stories that I am considering for my "Best of" list. This, however, has been the first one I have been inclined to write into that list permanently. (The other three I mentioned in my initial notes will also be permanent additions, as well as a few others, but I haven't picked them all yet.)
Again, I'm not necessarily a fan of H/G pairings, but this is one of my favorite three in that Ship. A definite read.

This Means War!
This is an awesome, awesome story. I bow to the person who created such a funny fic. Not only that, but the plot makes sense, unlike other silly fics I've read. I love the H/G relationship and I can't wait for the Quidditch match. I'm also pleased with the development of other characters, such as Snape, Sirius, and Bellatrix. I'm expecially happy that all of Harry's "superpowers" simply come from believing in himself, instead of something else. Wonderful!

This Means War!
Dear Jeconais,

This is your last chapter to date. I'm so glad you didn't disappoint. As always, you begin with your usual technique of mmail, and humor. Minnie reclaiming her young gryffs from the dastardly slytherin is classic. It's nice to see that not all house rivalry is dead. A dual animagus? I would love to see that. This section was a nice breather from the anticipation of who did Ginny wallop?

Speaking of which, I appreciate you jumping right into the action. Ginny's punch/flashback sequence of her learning from her two oldest brothers how to take care of herself was great. On a personal note, it seems that you've taught this skill a time or two, especially the information about thumb placement. Is it strange that I found this a very sweet scene, as well as illuminating? Bill and Charlie must still see that little girl sighing over Harry Potter. They would do anything to protect her, and seeing Harry and Ginny get together in the future would probably set off alarm bells.

Way to go! I love that Ginny hits Cho rather than Harry. I'm so glad that a staged trick isn't going to cause trouble between them. He's earned her trust and has never done anything to make her doubt him, and Ginny tells Cho exactly the difference between real love and self delusion. Now that the truth is out about Marrietta and her connections to Pansy, I feel a little sorry for Cho. I love that Hermione tackles her. Hee. I can't wait to see what Harry's 'harem' have planned for Pansy. I hope you plan on including this revenge in further chapters. Grin.

It was interesting that after Ginny had calmed down a little she had enough compassion to heal Cho. I can picture Hermione and Ginny feeling regret over hitting the other two, and like that the boys seem to have identical ways of dealing with these second thoughts. Forceful Harry-a definite turn on.

The interaction between Harry and McGonagall surprised me. I forget that she has moments of humor even in cannon. I would love to see her stick her tongue out in the movies. Minnie's personal questions to Harry also threw his love for Ginny in sharp relief. Harry as a wolf and hawk, both predators. I read in your notes that you didn't choose a magical creature on purpose. Again you surprise me. It seemed an easy path with Harry gaining amazing powers. I'm glad you avoided the temptation to give dual forms as well as overwhelmingly powerful ones.

Leave it to the twins to find a way to combine butterbeer, business and destroying a Malfoy. This really is turning into an involved plot point. It seems odd that Lucius would have such an innocuous company. Probably a front. While the Twins are scheming against Daddy, Draco is getting demolished in potions by Snape. Wonderful to see. Add to Harry sending Terry over to comfort him, is this a case of where there's smoke there's fire? Draco didn't deny? I wonder how far you'll take this-Ginny seems to have insights into many things lately. It will be interesting to see if she predicted this.

Dudley getting over his prathood and mmailing Harry because of a girl? As things stand now, I couldn't imagine why you would go in this direction, but in reading your final notes, you obviously have something up your hard drive. The interaction between the two forms of email is interesting, as well as the warnings Snape gives about replies. I do like the idea of a magical outsider's view of the changes in Harry.

Thank you for just skirting over the abuse that Harry suffered. It's enough to know that it occurred, reading about it in depth in a humorous work would have thrown me off of my rhythm. Snape's shock and angry reaction shows how far he has come in his views on Harry. I love a protective Snape. I also like that the teachers trust him enough to cast directly into their minds. Dumbledore should be held accountable for his abandoning of Harry. Would he have even gone to get him if it weren't for the prophecy?

Harry's first instinct to find Ginny for hugs and comfort was very sweet. Ginny's read of his emotions, not needing words to either comfort or understand was great. Harry sharing those memories again would have been a lot to ask, but sharing pain with those you love seems to heal better than anything else. Ginny's ability to control her temper (when she needs to) means Harry can count on her. (That said, I love that Ron and Hermione stand guard) She sees Harry off, and she LOSES it! There is nothing more satisfying than breaking knick knacks and screaming at the top of your lungs to vent anger. Great to see her snap into action, comforting Harry, sharing his pain, reminding him of his meeting, ensuring that he eats, devising punishment, and helping to rally the rest of the students.

The discussion between Vector and Sinistra provided some interesting exposition. These were all small points that the reader may or may not notice, and having them addressed within scene helps keep the story flowing nicely.

Yay to the Weasley clan united for the common cause. The Dursleys deserve a prank storm hitting them-consider it guided karma.

Harry's adventures in Gringotts included a great deal of information. I have a feeling I'm going to have to reread this a few times before your next chapter arrives. Harry receiving his family vault gave me my moment of both sweetness and humor. I really enjoyed the letter from his parents, and the rings will come into play soon I'm sure! If the old man is there, can Lily and James visit as well? With even the goblins on his side, Harry can't lose. I'm glad he picked up Mackrack's hint. Somehow I think that would have gone right over Ron's head. Grin.

Glad to see that the investigation is being continued. Percy has his uses. Nice contrast between email styles of Kingsley and Perce. I can't wait for the order meeting. I think this is the first time the whole group will get to see Harry in action. I knew some adults would be in for a surprise and I was right.

In the space of a few moments you have Harry acting as both spy and businessman. The best part is, you handled the situations with humor and skill. Harry and Fred discussing how to best take over the butterbeer operation, and wipe out Malfoy was brilliant. I was able to accept this all occurring. Great job. I also like Fred ensuring Harry is serious about Gin. Very cute tableau between the boys. An excellent tension breaker.

After everything Harry has achieved, and all his new magical ability, he doesn't know enough to take two teenage girls into London to shop? I can't believe he survived. He's adorable when he's fantasizing about Ginny in the middle of the store, and I guess it would be hard for Lav and Pav not to be a little jealous. He's a great guy. Nice to see someone else pointing out he's living a crazy life lately.

Can I once again mention how I love Lav and Pav coming into play in this story. They pick out the necessary clothing, and think of the perfect way to help Harry without embarrassing him. They realize Harry needs bedroom, war room, only with their sense of style. One of the best lines in this installment is " . . . mentally ignoring the fact that a fifth year student's tastes were being bought into the discussion about an Assistant Professor's room - and everything that implied." I wondered if that would have an effect on things.

Harry and Ginny's mmail notes back and forth- if they can't be together, I'll take this sort of interaction. Cute and sweet, but casual. Ginny is firmly in caretaker mode. Molly Weasley trained her daughter well.

Hermione is cheating. Of her own free will. I think I need to lie down. (Grin.) And Ron calmly lets it go without continuing the argument? Hee. Adult Ron is a pleasure. I would want to keep him around as well. Growing up is pretty cool.

Harry made his mirror whistle and blush? That would make me a little nervous. I love that Ginny just pushes him up against the wall, and lets her hands explore. I was needing a little romance in the middle of all these comings and goings. The header in the mmail made me laugh as well. (Sweet bloody Merlin!) Orla came through again! Harry really doesn't need the stress of ending up in WW.

I have to admit Sev and Siri getting along is freaking me out. I like it, I think, it's just so different from the books. I love them both, and to think that Lestrange is the bone of contention here is upsetting. Snape has yet to ask Harry for the favor. Snape and the Mauraders on the quidditch team has some definite humor potential. I can't wait to see Sev's robes billowing behind him as he scores. (He and Ginny would work wonderfully together.)

Dudley also mentioned predators in describing Harry. You have really underscored the difference between your Harry strength, confidence, a cagey, thinking fighter than a young boy barely keeping his head attached. This is clear both in the Park fight scene (I love a little adventure thrown in) as well as the order meeting. I love how Ginny and the twins so easily scheme together, and how Hermione and Ron add new ideas and strategies to the table.

Ack! Harry catches Ron and Hermione? Well. That certainly erases any doubts about what progressing in a natural way may have meant. They seemed to handle it well, I would have been a lot more embarrassed. Ginny does need a good snog session with her boyfriend. I'm not sure how I would feel about my brother helping plan it though.

I tremendously enjoy your characterization of Severus Snape. I like his humor, intelligence and cunning. He has great scenes in the meeting, watching Gin and alerting Padfoot to the stunt, his helping Gin with the potion, and keeping her points up, showing Harry the picture, and sharing the details of one of the greatest pranks EVER, (This was one of those laugh out loud moments for me.) and working with Harry to enter Voldimort's mind.

That said, . . .

How could you possibly have ended things there? Harry and Sev-locked in Voldemort's evil mind-obviously in pain, about to be killed, Ginny reacting to the necklace that Abe gave them, experiencing what Harry is second hand-passed out. I can only trust that you remember this is a lighthearted story, and Ginny is able to wake up, save her love (and Snape) and still have everyone able to play some quidditch.

The spelling, grammar and sentence structure make your writing a joy to follow. As always, hugs and thank yous to your betas. (I think it bears repeating.). Thank you as well. I hope you will continue this story in the future. All the Best,

Probably the third time I've read this story in as many days and I must admit that I'm more hooked each time around. I absolutely love the depiction of Snape and have found that he now has a special place in my heart. Now that I think about it your depiction of everyone is amazing. But I have discovered one downside to reading and enjoying this fic as much as I have: if I read it directly before going to bed I've found myself dreaming in your HP world instead of " normal things." That being said, I bow down to you oh Great One.

Wow what a story. I started reading it the other day and read it straight through. This story is good clean fun well up until that brutal cliffhanger, ouch. The Mmail concept is downright hilarious at times. I had gotten so comfortable with the easy going attitude of the story that the cliffhanger downright shocked me. Whoa update soon.

This Means War!

It may seem like I'm overreacting with the emoticons, but I think this is one of the cleverest, funniest, cutest, saddest, heartgrippingest and just generally best fics I have ever read. And that's not only because it involves Harry and Ginny, :p.

The idea behind the Mmail net is just plain genious, and I find myself almost hysterical over the tos and froms, especially those of Moony and Padfoot. Severus is another wonderful creation, I'm in hysterics at the thought of seeing (or reading) him with washed hair! I know there is another side to McGonagall, you have written it exactly the way I see it: cheeky, playful and mischievious. And Dudley, I always have had an inkling that there will be something that happens between the two cousins, even if it doesn't involve his parents.

The moment that really made this fic shine was when Ginny punched Cho. As you said in your AN's, there is nothing more annoying than a fic where h/g break up because of a stupid misunderstanding. You really did have me wondering who she was going to punch, and that is the sign of a good author.

I love the way that the emotions shine through your words: every heartfelt 'I love you' to Harry's 'the one' speech. Even down to the odd comment between Ron and Hermione. Nothing has been left out and it is all tied together nicely with a golden string.

And as for the cliffhanger, if pitchforks delay the next chapter will rotten vegetables suffice?

There are so many other things that are good about your work, but I will save them for another review. Keep writing, you are a real inspiration to others.

"I will continue to write him as a female character until Ms Rowling gives us a non-Pansy female Slytherin."

Two words: Millicent Bulstrode

Other than that, I have no criticisms. I mean, everyone's largely OOCC (out of canon character), but you've kept everything consistent in the fic itself, so it's all good. And it helps that it's a great story--the characterization doesn't matter, since you've made it work, in other words.

Great work. I look forward to the resolution of this particular cliffie.

Well, whew! I must admit that parts of your story go *ssvt* right over my head but I don't care because the plot is moving faster than I can think. I personally don't care what the technical aspects of mmail are, I'm just having a good time reading them! AHHHHHHHH!!!! And he hasn't even given her the ring yet?!?!?!?! That cliffhanger was down right evil! I love it!!!!! It makes the longing for the next part that much more. I knew it was Cho that got punched because I feel the same way as you about the whole H/G break-up bit, and in this story it is so obvious that Harry would never willingly cheat on Ginny. Anyway... can't wait for the next chapter, but no rush... A good chapter, like good wine, only gets better with time!

Specific Suggestions:

"I know you had an argument with Ron about dating Ginny, why did you forgive him?"
This is a comma splice. I'd suggest substituting a period (full stop) or semicolon for the comma.

I think that a few intensifiers in here could be left out, paradoxically leading to a stronger expression of emotion. For example:
a nature that he found he really liked.

I'd suggest: "a nature that he liked."

I'm going hunting for a warehouse, why don't you look into the current Butterbeer.

Another comma splice.

all you have in mind is the object meaning of the phrase

I suggest that you probably mean "...the objective meaning..."

I had perhaps kept a too tight reign on Harry

The idiom is "tight rein".

but watch what you call me in front of Harry, he's a little possessive

Comma splice.

"Of course, Mr Potter; you'll find that we have an excellent exchange rate. Only three percent."

Since Griphook is a banker, he's going to use precise financial language. You're confounding "exchange rate" with "commission". He could say "we charge only a three percent commission". Or he might say "our buy and sell prices for pounds are within three percent of each other." These are just examples.

If you like the feedback, please let me know. I can provide more. I did not perform a thorough beta read on this; just pointed out a few things that stuck out in my mind.

I'm enjoying the story and encourage you to continue writing.

Monday 2nd August 2004 10:09This Means War! (Author Response)
There's also a more amusing mistake in there, that completely destroys the meaning of one of the phrases.

All comma-splices etc are mine, as it's the style that I write. My beta's have a lot on their plate, and the job they do is truly remarkable.

Pitchforks Out! Charge!

So, not satisfied with just being #1 on my list of WIP stories? (Sorry to the other authors of some very fine stories.) You just had to put in the cliffhanger to increase our need to see the next chapter.

O.K., on to the serious review.

This chapter was well worth the wait.

I suspected who Harry would get for Beaters. I am still waiting to see who he will get for Keeper (? Oliver Wood?) and the other Chaser (? McGonnagal?), assuming Ginny is on the Team.
Assuming you haven't just killed off Harry !

Good redemption of Dudley. In fact, there are so many good points, (like Terry and Draco) I can hardly comprehend how you do it. I will just enjoy. Keep up the good work, post soon.

This Means War!
I guestion your facts when it comes to fighting. If Ginny hit Cho in the jaw hard enough to knock her out before hitting the ground Cho would have been unable to talk when she was revived. There is nothing in the jaw unlike the chin that will knock someone out with one hit without dislocating and breaking the jaw and knocking at least three teeth out.

How Ginny was taught to punch lacks power. While it is true you want to snap your punch at the end that is not where the power comes from. The power of a punch comes from the hips. You do not want to draw your fist way back before you strike. It leaves you open for a counter attack and it telegraphs your intentions.

When Harry disarmed Pierse Sp? Down and back is not efficient. This actually could give Pierse a chance to regain control of the situation. Harry put PIerse where pierse had a lower center of gravity. That position affords him a chance to counter. When Harry intercepted the initial attack he should have used pierse's momentum to pull him forward, down and back in a circlular motion. At the same time Harry would had slid forward past and slightly lowering at the hips to control Pierse. This would have also controlled the knife instead of flying out of control a no no in close quarter combat.

I am sorry if you think I am nit picking, but I have studied for 26 years Koryu (traditional Japanese arts) I find it depressing how authors like yourself put so much accuracy and detail in their writing, but mess up the fight scenes without doing a little research. I find it depressing to see ++blocked++py kill Bill unrealism in well written stories.

If you or any writer wants, I am willing to Beta any martial scene for accuracy and realism

My person experience of martial arts is a 35 minute course, where I broke my collar bone.

There actually isn't that much info I can find, and translate into accessible langauge that people can understand. Most fighting sites I've seen have very dry technical descriptions that don't translate well, or as you've seen above, are wrong. I got the how to punch description for a fighting website, as I haven't got a clue.

Tim,

That was every bit as fun as expected. Yours is probably the only story going that I would gladly spend the better part of three hours to go through a single chapter!

One of the things I like most about this story is the pace. Harry always has so much going on and you jump so quickly from one scene to the next. It really keeps me involved in the story, which is saying a lot considering how long this chapter. You had to spend 70 pages on one day and every scene fit together perfectly.

Your Harry certainly isn't selling himself short, either. In the space of one chapter you've got him taking steps to reshape the school, the Ministry, the business world and the Order. I particularly enjoyed the Sinistra-Vector scene as a way to work in a bit of disbelieving outside perspective on the way Harry's grown into authority. And Hermione doing his homework was another nice touch to show he's not entirely perfect. Just really close to totally perfect.

I continue to enjoy Ginny's possessive but supportive attitude. Now that you've got the prank out the way and made Harry actions more serious, her bursts of anger do a lot more to enliven the plot. I should have know right from the off that Cho was in for it at the end of the last chapter ...

And speaking of cliffhangers, that one pales in comparison to the doosy you've left us with here. The fact that you've got Snape involved leaves so many interesting ways this can play out too.

Nice job as always,
-KC
Monday 2nd August 2004 05:55This Means War! (Author Response)
Thanks KC...

Of all the things I was worried about in this chapter - and there was a lot - the actual pace wasn't one of them. I was a little surprised when I realised I was on 70 pages and only one day - my time compression skills suck ;-)

The Sinistra-Vector scene was put in exactly for that reason, to try and show an outside viewpoint of what has happened to Harry recently.
The Hermione Homework thing was again, to point out that he can't do everything, much as I write him as overpowered as a demi-god

This Ginny is a lot of fun to write, bold and confident - but one of my running jokes in this is that HG still haven't actually got together for a decent make-out session. Sure, there's lots of kisses, but so far only one locked door and even that wasn't exactly the most opportune time.

As for the cliffhanger, well, the clues are there in how he will get out - and there are some clues as well to what is happening at the ministry...

Oh. Wow. Wow. Holy. Moly. I wanted to review last night, but by the time I'd finished, it was midnight and I was all emotionally drained from that there cliff hanger.

I would have thought that Harry and Snape would be clever enought to tell someone where they're going, what they're doing etc, since they were going up against Voldemort.

You've made me like Snape, and you've justified his behaviour nicely, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to stop talking to you.

I loved this chapter. All of it... I have not one single serious gripe. Oh oh, especially Harry running the Order meeting, and Ginny and the twins getting in on it... lovely!

Ok, I think I'm done.

I loved your scene at the beginning as well, with Ginny knowing exactly what Cho was all about. Hooray!
What a cruel way to end it, however! This cliffy is even worse than the last. How will our hermo get out of this one? I dunno. Back to the waiting game!

You never know what is going to happen *smirks* Let's just say that I rarely put things in for no real reason...

As for Ginny and Cho, I really hated that cliche - but I also wanted to show once more that they have a very strong relationship based on trust.

That was incredible!

All of that waiting was worth it, even if it did grind the meaning of the word 'patience' into the ground, or more specifically, the mud. Anyway, I hope that said patience wouldn't be tested so sorely next time.

Oh, and good luck on your 'Chances' fic. Update (as) soon (as you can).

HARRY AND GINNY FOREVER!

Hi there!

This was the longest chapter that I ever read. More than one hundred pages. Congrats for you and your betas. You guys rocks!

It had so much in this chapter that I don't know where to start. It was an agitated monday for Harry really. I like the way you develop the relationship between Harry and Ginny - so steady and intense - giving to both what they need. Some angst is good, but we need to see ours characters in a strong mode once in a while

Continuing, it was great see Ron in the adventures again. He was being a git with that overprotection.

I'm one of the few people who don't write relationship angst ;-)

But yeah, I did want to show Ron being back in the fold now that he was over his childishness, and he's back to being a good guy.

I'm gonna have to make another review to make note of what you just said Jeco. Considering you said Fudge got a DE donation when Serious was released, I'm gonna guess it was Bella for that one at least.

you gunna put in a note abut belgarath and beldin? or do you want people to wonder about the animagus froms?
Sunday 1st August 2004 18:15This Means War! (Author Response)
Actually, it's got nothing to do with them, and everything to do with the plot. While I am influneced by Eddings, and Tolkein, I'm trying to be suitably original. I actually looked up some animal websites to get the wolf charecteristics right.

What I do find amusing so far, is that NO ONE has a clue what is happening about the Ministry and the DE donations to Fudge.

Well then good brother, before we begin would you like to buy a carry-on patented doll?
The blade goes down, the head comes off just like in real life. It makes a perfect present for any children you might be leaving behind
Imagine, a man of your upstanding reputation, using such a nasty cliff hanger, oh well it was nice knowing you

(On a side note, due to government affiliation, expensive’s are taken care of by semi privatisation and as such this bold device is available for hiring, useful for such occasions as doctors, lawyers, family, and other lying scum who like to act like babies and push their troubles onto someone who certainly does not deserve them)

(oh and when is her birthday, will she still be in America, and if so what’s the number so I can give her, her twice yearly phone call )

You know... I do have an email address Simon.

August 11th, and I'll mail you the number nearer the time... If you want, I'll put you on my system - so I pay the bill for you (it's peanuts, much cheaper than BT)

SO you're saying you don't like the cliff hanger?

This Means War!
Ah, Tim. What a great way to spend my Sunday afternoon. This was too much fun. Well, except that little cliffie at the end, but I trust you, so I'm not going to freak out about it. And actually, the cliffie is fun, too, because it leaves me room to speculate on how you're going to get them out of this situation.

You packed so much into this chapter, I don't know what to comment on first.

Here, I'll just start at the beginning.

The flashback with Ginny learning to punch from Charlie and Bill was fun. I especially liked this part:
But boys are stinky," Ginny said, mentally excluding Harry from that description. "Why would they come after me?"

"Because you're very pretty, and while boys may be stinky now, they do grow up," Charlie smiled.

Heh. So much like what a 10 year old would think.

I do want to say that I agree with you about the whole "Ginny catches Harry doing something that looks suspicious and he's really innocent but she doesn't believe him and breaks up with him" thing. You had a great explanation for her reaction. And I have to say that I was right--I knew she was punching Cho. Of course, I can't take all the credit--the way you've written Harry and Ginny really pointed to that being the only answer.

I thoroughly enjoyed the...revenge...that the Weasleys, Sirius, Remus, and Severus have planned out for the Dursleys. Actually, that whole plot line with Dudley was quite interesting to me. It's so true that Petunia and Vernon are doing just as much damage to Dudley as they've done to Harry. And a "redeemed" Dudley was certainly an interesting twist. I like it.

Fred and George as successful businessmen was, as someone else already pointed out, brilliant. Add Harry's smarts, and the three of them will be very dangerous to the competition.

I like the 3 ring premise. Pretty cool (and romantic, too!)

And the whole Bella thing was interesting...didn't see that one coming.

One more comment--your betas deserve serious credit. I know that you appreciate them, I just wanted to show my appreciation as well. I've never received a 100+ page chapter from one of my authors, but I can extrapolate to figure out how much work it was. So here's a to the betas!

Definitely a fun and exciting chapter!

Julie
P.S. The 3 year-old told me to use that last emoticon--he likes it a lot!

Sunday 1st August 2004 17:55This Means War! (Author Response)
Julie, glad you liked it.. and you're totally right about my betas. Not one of them baulked when I told them just how long it was - but I didn't feel that I could have cut the story any where but there.
Amusingly, this is only 2/3rds of where i wanted to be at the end of this chapter

I was always planning on redeeming Dudley, mainly because I don't think I've seen it done before, and it sets up some plot parts for the next part or two.

Bella was another thing I realised I needed - partly to show Harry growing up and having to make hard decisions, partly to set up the final confrontation.

The three rings are just to keep the fluff level up - and to make up for the cliffy, I have an idea for the next part that will rot teeth.

Thanks for the review :-)

*feels ashamed*
darn i realy thought (hoped) i would be the second (can't beat brandon in speedreading) to post a review

so here goes

i loved it, loved it to bits

oh and what terry said to draco

"I am not gay, but thanks to that weasel, everyone thinks I am!"

"First off, don't call Ginny that - if anyone hears you, you'd be cursed to Alaska and back. If Harry heard you, well, I don't think there'd be enough pieces of you left to pick up and curse to Alaska and back. Secondly, if you're not gay, why do you care?"

so would it be too much to ask when the next chappy is up?

*goes in cheerleader-mode*

I won't chase after you with a pitchfork, mainly because I don't see this as too much of a cliffhanger. The curse bounced off Harry once before, and now Moldywart is splitting one killing curse between two people. I figure it's gonna be a deep coma.

Oh, and as for just updating.

And I'll post something you'll get a kick out of, and lorien will know what I mean. To bad there's not a jig icon. LOL

Oh yeah, I nearly died laughing at what happened between the twins and Harry with the promise ring, although I should have seen that one coming.

So, what's next on the list of updates?

Anxiously awaiting,

Brandon
