This is excellent. I'm so glad that Ginny paid close attention to Harry and his responses. That was great. I really like the way she responded to him and was supportive without asking a lot of probing questions. It let him say a little about his summer without having to relive details. Thanks so much for a really nice little interlude. p |

I love your work. Not just this story but all of the ones that I have read. You are amazing. You make me fall in love with the Harry Potter characters all over again. Reading your work, I find myself crying at the sad parts and laughing at the funny parts and I find the butterflies in my stomach waiting for Harry and Ginny to just end up together. |

Oh that was good! I loved all of the carnival games and seeing my favorite characters experience them. And the whole Harry and Ginny relationship blossomed really well here too. Great job! |

This is another story that I'm sure I've seen elsewhere before, and that I enjoyed very much!
I like that you "throw" H/G together without pushing anything beyond holding hands, but clearly on the way towards more. The cotton candy scene brings new meaning to "fluffiness".
Poor Ron and Hermione - always dancing around their true feelings - but at least they did hold hands! And it's always sweet the way they're concerned about Harry's well-being.
I always like Ginny's POV in stories like this - I've always wished that this critical person in Harry's life got more page time from JKR instead of always being involved in "off the page" action. (JKR's still fantastic, though.)
Thank you for an entertaining and light-hearted story! |

I think I have now read all your 'back catalogue' (do you feel like a band now?).
I do love your writing of and they come out just as I imagine them in my head. I'm sure you get a lot of satisfaction out of writing them and it shows.
I've never done this before but the only other writer who writes Harry and Ginny like you do is kjpzak who wrote Ancient Magic and Blood of the Heart over on MuggleNet if you haven't read them give it a look if you have some spare time.
And now I'm back to waiting for Seventh Horcrux updates (sigh) at least my children should see a little more of me now! |

Just read this and wanted to let you know I thought it was a wonderful
short story. It brings back such memories. I've always
thought carnivals were romantic, and you brought to life quite vividly
all the smells and sounds and sensations. I loved that Harry knew what
was going to happen on the Matador, but didn't let on and obviously
didn't mind. You characterized Ginny and Harry both beautifully...Ginny
with her fearless attitude and Harry's own shyness. I enjoyed the
way that they just naturally paired up (with some help from
Hermione!) and grew comfortable together. This is going on my
list of favorites :-)

Narumi Friday 18th March 2005 22:20 | Centrifugal Force |
This was wonderful! I'm dying to go to a carnival now- I haven't been in about five years. You wrote this wonderfully, and it certianly was a unique plot! Most people can't pull it off too well when Harry and Ginny get together quickly, but carnivals have a knack for doing things like that and you sure took advantage of it. I noticed you said no sequel "yet" at the beginning- does that mean that there could be one later? I'd love to hear about the rest of the weekend with the Grangers, and also about Harry's shopping trip with Tonks. You could really turn this into a great summer fic! I'll keep my eye out for more of your work,

hjdevnull Sunday 27th February 2005 10:33 | Centrifugal Force |
This is such a cute story. I remember going on rides like that one with
girls I had a crush on when I was a kid, it was always so much fun. You
really capture the feelings and worries of H&G so well in this one.
I love the recurrance of the cotton candy -- that just seems to sum up
the entire carnival experience so well, with Ginny's curiosity and
wariness and desire all in one.

I loved the cotton candy scene!
I'm glad you didn't have any of them kiss, it leaves expectations for more though. But if they did it would have felt so rushed.
I can't wait to read your other stories. This is my first of yours to read so I could see your writing stylr and I think I'll happily read the others. Your writing is nicely detailed and I like it. |

Cute and lighthearted....just what I need right now! This was awesome, and everyone still seemed pretty much in-character and for a one-shot, very well developed. I love rocking the ferris wheel!!! I got so jealous of H and G while reading this! lol! On a side note, I'm SO SO SOOOO glad you're writing sequel to HPPOE!!!! I just noticed that, and it made my day! YIPPEEEE!!! *goes off to read*

Pirate Ginny Friday 19th November 2004 01:21 | Centrifugal Force |
Wow...I thought I'd read all of the carnival challenge fics, and nearly didn't read this. I haven't read the others for a long while, but I suspect this would be among my favorites. :)
I especially love the understated understanding that arises between Harry and Ginny. Ginny's attempts to resist sliding into Harry...boy that takes me back. I had to squeeze next to a boy I liked at the Haunted Mansion and just *knew* everyone would see how red my cheeks were once we got outside. Thank goodness for Ginny that Harry didn't mind.

DADAGinny Thursday 18th November 2004 13:48 | Centrifugal Force |
Very sweet and fluffy, like cotton candy (wink). Nice job! I'm glad Harry got out of his depression with Ginny!
|
Thursday 18th November 2004 17:39 | Centrifugal Force (Author Response) |
Thanks! It was fun for a one-shot, although I think it will take more than this for poor Harry in canon. |
Bring and Fly Thursday 18th November 2004 05:24 | Centrifugal Force |
This was great! The idea of going to the funfair struck me as so un-Hermioneish (the Hermione they know from school anyway) that it had the ring of thruth, if you follow me. I think Hermione would show different facets of her character at home than those she shows at school. Ron fiddling with the car made me think of his dad and the way Hermione told him off made me think of Molly... nice bit of foreshadowing there!
As for the candyfloss... I would have felt just like Ginny-anything so that Harry could have the treat so long denied him. Loved the bit on the rides... the not wanting to be squashed up against him thing, only for Ginny to discover that Harry is far more perceptive than most people give him credit for!!
A lovely interlude while we wait for your sequal.
If you ever feel the need for a Brit-picker, I'd be honoured...

Aberforth's Avatar Thursday 18th November 2004 05:19 | Centrifugal Force |
I really liked this story, which brightened a gloomy November morning. The emotions were believable; soft and ephemeral like cotton candy. The hook to getting Harry and Ginny together was very well conceived: "A force spinning them in circles around one another, endlessly drawn towards the center, and each other." Both Ginny's quiet delight and Harry's shy acquiescence in what was happening were very much in character. This reminds me of a St. Margarets story, Cotton Candy, which was similarly themed, but your emotional epiphanies here were perhaps a bit more subtle. Very well done! Thanks again for a wonderful tale. |
Thursday 18th November 2004 17:37 | Centrifugal Force (Author Response) |
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it, it was fun t write this one. I have such a soft spot for Harry when he's being shy. |
St Margarets Wednesday 17th November 2004 18:00 | Centrifugal Force |
I finally get to review you! I enjoyed this on a bleak November Day. I really like your title and the hook you used to get them together. Attraction is a force - and it certainly was there!
The R/Hr was cute too! Although I root for H/G first! |
Thursday 18th November 2004 17:36 | Centrifugal Force (Author Response) |
I root for H/G first as well. I just love them! It's quite an honor to get a review from you, who I think of as the Queen of fluffy stories for H&G. Thanks! |
cckeimig Wednesday 17th November 2004 12:57 | Centrifugal Force |
What a nice interlude, Melinda! I really enjoyed reading it. Nice and fluffy, but nicer to Harry than regular canon. The poor guy needs a break once in a while, after all!!! |
Thursday 18th November 2004 17:34 | Centrifugal Force (Author Response) |
Doesn't he, though? I don't see JKR easing up anytime soon, so we all have to do it for him, poor kid. LOL! Glad you enjoyed. |
KEDme Wednesday 17th November 2004 10:55 | Centrifugal Force |
I read the winning entries for this challenge and (no disrespect to the authors) this was by far the best and should have won, hands down. I caught all the bonus phases, and think you encorporated them brilliantly. They seemed very natural and not out of place at all. Everyone was totally, 100% in character, and the plot was sweet and endearing. Once again, you turn out a quality piece of work that shows your talent as one of the best HP fanfiction writers on the net. I'm glad this didn't go in the trash bin. It deserves to be read. |
Thursday 18th November 2004 17:34 | Centrifugal Force (Author Response) |
Aww, thanks KEDme, blush! I'm so happy to see you posting here as well - we can start our own mutual admiration society, lol! |

Well, hello Melinda. It's funny, I rarely even hear the name much, but your the third fanfic author with the name now! The other one ships Harry with Hermione, so obviously the name doesn't automatically mean observance of the obvious, lol! |
Myth & Legend Wednesday 17th November 2004 04:14 | Centrifugal Force |
*Gasps* How come I've been emailing you for the past fortnight and you
never told me this was in the works? I did, of course, love it. Ginny's
characterisation was perfect, spot on how I think of her. My one
uncertainty would be the rapidity of relationship development, but I'm
not bothered because a)this is a fluff sotry, of course it contains
romance. b) it wasn't really relationshippy as much as it was flirting.
Great job, as always :)

Eressea Wednesday 17th November 2004 00:47 | Centrifugal Force |
Great story! Quite different from the other summer after 5th year fics. I love the whole carnival idea. You don't see much of things like that, even when they do go to Hermione's house. It's so cute how Ron plays with the buttons on the door. And I love how they get together on the rides and eating cotton candy. I hope you write another one like it, even if it's not a sequel. |
Thursday 18th November 2004 17:27 | Centrifugal Force (Author Response) |
Thanks. It was done for the SIYE challenge, so the carnival wasn't my idea, but it really appealed to me...and, voila! |

Wonko Tuesday 16th November 2004 23:02 | Centrifugal Force |
that was wonderful. Incredibly sweet, with just enough angst to make it believable (fics taking place immediately post-fifth-year can't very well be all sweetness and light). I especially liked
Harry smirked. “What about you? What’s your role?”
Ginny was going to make some joke, but when she caught the hidden hurt within the green orbs staring at her so intently, she whispered, “I’m there for when you need someone to listen.”
Made me smile. A lot. thanks =) |
Thursday 18th November 2004 17:25 | Centrifugal Force (Author Response) |
I know what you mean about post 5th year, there is no way to do them without some element of angst, which I prefer anyway so it makes me happy. And they CAN be done together with fluff! |
