haha! cute story! I lovedit thats actualy a good idea to celebrate valentines day on the 15... I personally am not a big fan... all they do is hike up the price of everything and its hardly romantic going somewhere due to it being crowded...

Oh, you've been reading all my H/G stories! LOL - there are a lot of them, aren't there? I also have a lot at SIYE that aren't here. I really think you might like Magic Within, Magic Without. It was written before HBP, and it's about how H/G get together. One of my favorites still. Thanks for reading and for all of your nice reviews. If it wasn't a week before Christmas I'd answer each one.

The more I peruse PhoenixSong, it inevitably leads me back to your stories. It must mean something.. I know I'm discovering all these pieces years later, but let me say they are quite wonderful. The first person perspective takes a bit to get used to, but it worked in this case. The flashback type story isn't the first I've read, but it works okay as a plot device. The interactions between the Gryffindor boys is classic as always. Harry and Ginny's misunderstandings create some tension of course, but nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of snogging.. I will probably end up reading all of your fics at one point, so look forward to more reviews down the line.

I'm glad you liked this very old story! Looking back on it, I wish H/G had had a few evenings/events like these to liven up their days at Hogwarts.

I have a lot of stories, so beware! And not just H/G - I do like my minor characters. Thanks for reading!

Wednesday 14th March 2007 15:02February Fifteenth (Author Response)
I see you found out what H/G's daughter's name is by reading the other stories. Even though I wrote this two years ago, I thought they should have an inquisitive daughter to keep Harry on his toes.

Neville didn't ask Ginny, he asked Jeanne out. Jeanne talked Ginny into coming too and Neville wanted her to. So Ginny wouldn't have responded to Harry in the way she did -- she would have said that she would love to but Jeanne (and Neville) wants her to accompany them, would Harry mind making it a foursome . Sorry to sound picky, but you usually have much better scenarios .
Ah, I see you deal with that later in the story .
Now that's more like it -- the creative shift to writing a letter to their 13 year old daughter .

Aww! Okay, that was so cute.

For a second, I was worried that this was slash- all the things about "the best third year girl's voice I could use" or something sort of freaked me out until I read through to the end. It was so adorable!

Great job!

I don't usually like first person narration, and I usually don't like multiple POV's.  But you definitely proved me wrong here!  Wow!  This was cute and funny.  I liked the way you ended it too.  It gave it closure from a mature perspective!

That was sooo good! Definitely one of the fluffiest fics I've ever read, and I mean that as a very high compliment. Funny, cute, qitty, quirky, and the ending was perfect.
Favorite quotes:

<<That is when I realized that we were all prats. A regular prat brigade.>>

<<So Jeanne, Neville and I, along with Jeanne's chest, went to Hogsmeade on Friday night.>>

Great story!

That was so cute and funny.  I've had a St. Margarets marathon today.  I've read the last three or four stories off this site that I hadn't read yet in almost one sitting.  Excellent as usual.  You are so good at both one shots and chaptered stories.  I can't wait to read more in the future.

I so enjoyed this piece, and thought it was truly the best of the contest entries.  I really appreciated the fact that you took seriously the charge of "Valentine's Day gone wrong," with the use of February fifteenth keeping this from being "Valentine's Day almost gone wrong, but salvaged at the last minute."

It is impressive that four of the five "required phrases" you included fit seamlessly in the story.  Also impressive is the first-person narrative, particularly the inclusion of enough self-criticism and honest description to be interesting, but not so much as to immediately give away that the story is being told so much later.

There were a couple of proofreading slips, but they didn't really detract from the overall effect.  (Sorry to mention them at all, but it's a pet peeve.)

Thanks for writing such a fun story.

Hooray!  That clunking noise in the background was the romance meter ... and those replacement parts straight from the factory are SO hard to come by these days.

On a slightly less goofy note, I was going to say that you seem to have a frightening degree of intuition into the adolescent male psyche, but reading through your review responses, I now see why.  The prat brigade indeed ...

Nicely, nicely done.

Friday 25th February 2005 04:55February Fifteenth (Author Response)
Hi Jacynthe, thanks for your review!  I didn't have an author's note because I was supposed to "hiding" - but I guess you don't "hide" at Phoenix Song.  Anyway - I owe you the credit for giving me the idea for having H/G writing this down for their child.  You mentioned that in a review of Six Days over at SIYE.  So here is your credit - past due!  Thanks again.

I love how you write, regardless of  point of view.  I'm sorry I don't review your work more often -- but I'm always excited when I see the name St. Margarets attached to a title.

Favorite quotes:  "That is when I realized that we were all prats. A regular prat brigade."

"Did I mention that as part of my third-year-girl-in-love-with-a-bass-player persona, I had memorized Ginny's schedule?"

Great work as always.

Woohoo!  I guessed correctly that this was your fic, St. M!  But then, the only reason I guessed it was you was because I recognized Jeanne from Red Is The Heart, so I suppose I'm not entitled to feel too smug.

Like many of your other reviewers, I really loved the way you moved between Harry's and Ginny's pov -- it was very smooth and fluid, and very clever of you to use the same lines to connect them.  Your Harry was even more endearing than usual -- no wonder Ginny loves him!  And the part about Ginny going to Hogsmeade with Neville, Jeanne, and Jeanne's chest was just too funny.

Congratulations on your win!

Ahh, how I love a Post-Hogwarts tale. I liked the style you had going with repeating the same line into each transitioning POV. And the use of luscious,  (...her toes, lol)  A few moments seemed a bit awkward in the dialogue, but I really was pleased with the overall story! The surprise ending definetely added to the intrigue.

Just marvellous. I really think you've done a great job in capturing the moods of teenage boys - and, in Jeanne, the insecurity of the maturing teenage girl - in this piece. Dean's complete ignorance of Ginny, Neville and Jeanne is typical of the males of this age, and it's a nice change for someone other than Harry to be that clueless.

For his part, Harry is great in this story. He gets up the courage to ask Ginny out, and has the sense to go to Hogsmeade even though she has to turn him down. A (re)union in the forest between the two makes a nice change form the fireplace or the Quidditch changing rooms.

I also love the way you've worked your chosen phrases into the story as well. They don't seem forced and in at least two of the three cases I'd read past them before clocking them, whereas in many such challenges the story builds up to the phrases before ebbing away again. It was nice to see Seamus and Dean get some significant screen time as a result of their lines, too...

Between Harry's protectiveness and Ginny's honesty I love it when she says 'I only fit the last part, I'm afraid' - you've given your characters some real depth in the short time available. All in all, an excellent piece.

I very much liked this piece.  The change in P.O.V. was deftly handled throughout.  I really liked how each section started the same way the previous ended.  Very original, and it caught me by surprise the first time.  After that it was a nice way to tie everything together.

Also very astue of Harry to recognize his roommates as Prats.  But then, they are 16 year old boys.  It's pretty genetic, and almost unavoidable.  (I say that as a man who is happy to NOT have to go through that again! )

I also quite liked how it so gently sequed into the reminiscences of a comfortably married and loving couple.

Thanks for sharing.
Sunday 13th February 2005 12:04February Fifteenth (Author Response)

Harry is so clear about this since he is looking from a considerable distance of time.   That seemed to be the only way to write something like this and have the teen protagonists as aware of their feelings and motivations as they were in this story.  It was fun to write.  Thanks for your review!

That was really cute! Though I liked their new explanation, their original story is the best!

Oh yes - but often children don't really want to know all the detail about Mum and Dad.  Really, did they have a life before they were born?  How dare they!   Thanks for your review.

This was a nice feel good bit of fluff for an achy day.  You do internal dialogue well.  Bravo,  or brava?  since I don't know who I'm reviewing.

Oh, I so wanted to say - it's me!  I'm not very good with secrets, I'm afraid.  Thanks for your review.
