This Means War!
Great story, very well written. The plot is well thought out and all the sub-plots as well. Good humor, as well.

But it is a little off-putting how perfect and powerful Harry is and how everyone else is basically reduced to minor bit characters with little importance to the story based on Harry's godlike abilities. Everyone just reacts to what Harry is doing or telling them to do.

The familiarity between teacher and student is a little jarring and a little hard to get used to considering how unlike canon all the professors are acting.

Also, the romance is really over the top in your face. Will definitely keep reading, but a small part of me is kind of hoping that Voldemort wins to end all these grand declarations of love and the recaps on how amazing Harry is.

This Means War!
This was good in the beginning (first couple of chapters), but,....

Snape is really nice,.....REALLY nice
He attempted cured Lycanthropy in a day...?
everyone okay with harry/ginny running hogwarts...?
Hermione is caught cheating and the professors don't care...?
(I read up until this, but this was a bit too much for me)
among other things.

THe prank stuff is good and the quidditch match coming up
Totally NOT canon, i'm expecting harry or ginny to wake up from this dream anytime now...

Pansy’s tongue flicked out, tasting the blood that was creeping out of her nose.

“You hit me,” she said in a shocked, disbelieveing voice.

“I did,” Padma nodded. “You are scum. You are a vile racist, and I hate you and everything you stand for.”

“Okay, sis,” Parvati said, pulling her sister back slowly. “Let’s not lose it here.” “But—” Padma complained. “—I know, sis, I know. I want to smack her around for a bit as well. But we can’t do that; it would make us as bad as her.”

“Semantics,” Padma sniffed. “Treating someone as they deserve does not make us as bad as her.”

Does it not? I'd say it brings you dangerously close to the border. - And I don't like people who use violence against anybody who is not able to defend themselves. I feel repelled by that.

Hello!
I'm sure you have a million reviews exactly like this, but I just wanted to say that whilst I was reading this fic I fell off my chair thirteen times because I was laughing so hard (No joke!) and had to resort to copying this into a word file, onto my mp3 player (It stores data) and then loading it up onto the computer in my room (Which doesn't have internet) so that I could continue reading this after my parents went to bed. WOW! I'm hooked...

After having re-read this for the 6th or 7th time I still love it just as much if not even more! I don't really know what it is that keeps me coming back for more but there's just something about the whole atmosphere you've created in it, how Harry and Ginny have evolved through the story... I just love it And it's funny, probably the funniest fic I've ever read tbh and that's saying something! I just wish you could finish it.. I understand that if you don't want to finish it but.. I'll still hope that you will finish this wonderful story soon since I really really need more!

Not bad for a day off. Harr's got his spy in place. And Pansy must be the other spy -- the Mmail she sent her mother but that was only about Harry's cousin and Dean's half-sister. Who ratted on the butterbeer?
I hope someday to be able to see this finished. Its been about a year and a half. But at least its not in the abandoned category, so maybe you will get back to it someday

fav parts

“Does Hermione make you feel inferior at times as well?” McGonagall asked Professor Sprout next to her in a soft whisper.

“All the time.”

“Thank Merlin,” McGonagall replied in relief. “I thought it was just me.”

*

Of course, I tried to tell him to get out of the way, but since when has that boy ever done anything logical? Instead, he took a few steps forwards so that he was protecting Ginny and cast a Sonorous spell. He yelled out ‘Sit’ at the dragon, and the dragon sat.

As did I.

As did everyone else in earshot, including my boss and some of the toughest dragon handlers in the world, and every single bloody dragon on the field.

*

“Ginny was right,” Ron smirked. “It is better to take the Harry.”

“Take the Harry?” Harry asked. “What am I, a taxi?”

Hermione sniffed. “Nope, you smell a lot better than a taxi.”

Lol. So HBP has arrived, a massive wait has gone by, and still no final part.

I enjoyed every bit of this story, and one thing I forgot to mention when complimenting you before was how AMAZINGLY LONG the chapters are. Wow. One chapter that you write could equal to ten chapters for somebody else in the fanfic world.

So, when are you going to add the last chapter? I have a feeling you've written it...or at least part of it. As you said, everything's ready to go. So what's preventing you from adding it? I would love to read the end, and I'm sure lots of other people would, too.

Anyway, you've done a great job, and I'm keeping an eye out for an update. Need I say I'll be VERY disappointed if you don't update, ever?

Cheers.

Ok so this story is fully abandoned, what a pity, its really a fun story, not to canon, but equally fun so its very good. Its been like 18 months since HBP, so this is just wishing that you might just come back and finish it off, forget the canon, its too good and fun not to, but (with a heavy sigh) its all up to you. I really like Snape in this and our Hero and Heroin are just far to cute- not to mention the tear jerkers you sometimes let fly. Please give us some closure and consider finishing, I for one would love to re-read this from the start.

Highly amusing, and mostly in character. There are a few grammar and spelling niggles here and there, but nothing much. The main thing is a few britpicking bits that need fixing - characters saying "gee" and "honey" and things like that. Again, nothing major.

Oh, and this:
She stripped off Harry’s t-shirt and her knickers, and played with the knobs.

That sounds ever so dodgy to British ears...

I Doubt You're even reading this, You probably get so many reviews now saying 'UPDATE' that when you see you have a review you simply ignore it ~ Or if you do read it you think 'Heard that before' and don't bother replying, because if you replied to one you'd have to reply to them all and thats a hell of a lot of reviews to reply to! There's over 200 reviews for one chapter! I think that must be some type of record or something!
But If you do read this could you possibly think about maybe one day, in the future, with in the next 50 years, starting to write the next chapter? Please? People bugging you all the time for you to update might put you off the idea of updating/continuing writting. For all I know you've made a rule that you won't update untill no one has pestered you for an update for a month or something ~ and by me reviewing I've broken the chain and you're going to have to start counting all over again.

I don't know why you're not updating, I can only hope it's not because you have ill health, I hope it's a simple 'I can't be bothered yet' mind set and soon you will be bothered?? I hope so anyway because I love your story, I love your writting style, but I do hate to wait...but I'm being patient because I know the wait wil be worth it in the end ~ It has to be, you've had a year to work on the chapter an change anything that wasn't up to your standards.

I can't wait (although I might have too!) to find out who the betrayer/syp insidde hogwarts is! I'm so excited about it!

I hope they all incourage you!

Please? For us whining fans of yours? Your whinny but very loyal fans? Your whinny loyal loving fans? Please?

Thank you for a wonderful story so far ~ you story was the one that got me into fanficition and so that I thank you! Thank you lots.

Ok, I wasn't going to do this because I'm try to be patient and wait for the next chapter. And i am being patient. I just want to review say that although it's been 11 months since the last update, that it's still one of my favourite fanfic out on the web. It's deffiantly in my top 3.
I love this story, admittedly it's slightly exagerated! But it's still brilliant, light funny and and enjoyable to read. I can't stand reading stories that are too angsty and reading your story (several times, because thats how much i love it) is great way to escape from all the angsty stories that contain so many spelling mistakes and grammar errors.
So basically this review was to tell you how much i love your story, that i'm still patiently waiting and will be over the moon when i see you've updated, (although not until i've read the chapter and reviewed to tell you how much i love you!)

I hope you are well, and that very soon you get the impulse to finish off this story off for us loving fans! We will love you for ever!
Good luck.
Yours ~Gemz~

Also have you ever thought of posting 'This Means War' over at SIYE's? I Know that lost of people there would really enjoy reading it, you'd get lost of lovely new reviews that don't souly read 'UPDATE!'

This Means War!

This story is fantastic!  I looked it up and it took about a year between chapter eight and chapter nine so if all things go well you will do an update on this sometime this year which would work so well into my HP entertaintment waiting schedule.  For early in 2007 we will have the OOTP movie and in mid 2007 book seven and then probably in early to mid 2008 the HBP movie and then mid to late 2009 the book seven movie.  See, we NEED something "BIG" to happen in the HP world this summer.  The last chapter of this story IMO rates up there as a big event.

This is the best, most well thought out and fun to read story ever.  You have action, adventure, romance, comedy, loyalty, friendship, family, etc.. and it is all told so we get a nice big dose of Harry getting one over on those he has been hurt, wronged or whatever by w/o having him be cruel in his retribution.

I LOVE the mmail.  I love the twins!  I love the way all the characters work in this!  I love H&G! I love this story.  I love it so much!

Thank you so much!  God I love it.

Most fic's wouldn't get readers following 7 months without and update or any word of how the chapter is going, but thats how good a writer you have, people are still waiting. If you're not updating soon, can you at least let us know, because it's driving us mad!

An absolutely brilliant chapter, though I do admit not being happy with the cliffhanger. :( Or the fact that, well, there's only one chapter left. But, my God, that was brilliant. Everything, every single word, was incredible.

Oh, and I was in hysterics after reading the "Increase your wand size" Mmail. Hilarious. Just like those crazy spam-emails that you get about... well, you get the idea.

This Means War!

First of all, thank you for this awsome fanfiction. I must admit that it's one of the amazing I've ever read and I've read a lot! It's just equal to "HP and the Power of Emotion" and its sequel "The Curse of the Damned". As I know you like those two fanfiction, you'll want to read "Toward Tomorrow" and "Today the tempest" (hgnetwork.co.uk/siye).

So, to the point. On a less enjoyable note, I have a few things to tell you.

Even if I agree with you on FF.net you can't do what you're doing! As you've written in your own fanfiction through AD caracter, with great power comes great responsabilities!

You've written a great story and you're really gifted in writting! This gift is you power! That why you have great responsabilities ! You started something, you've to finish it to show your readers respect and in order to respect yourself! How could you see in a miror anymore when it's your reader who suffer this sitation and not FF.net or you!

I know it takes time to write and I'm not asking you to post the 10th chapter immediatly because I don't even knom if it's already written! All I'm asking is to inform your reader :

1) If you'll write the 10th chapter and the others (if tere others will be)

2) On with web site you will post it

I think it's the less you can do especialy after a great story like that!

Otherwise, as much as I love your story and you style ans as much as it pains me, I personnaly won't be able to consider you as an author I can trust and will never ever read a story from you. It's not a threat because I know my place and I know that it's not the kind of thing that can touch you. But I fears for you that a lot of readers will think the same and you deserve better than that;

I've not told you all that to be mean, I'm not like this. I've only told you all that to make you think about it.

To conclude, thank you again for your great story and sorry for my english mistakes (I'm french).

Mallory

I have so enjoyed this story and your writing! I laughed so hard a the funny bits. Please give us the final chapter -- I don't care if the story is AU now, we need to see the Dark Tosser go down!

I must say that you have taken JKR's hints at Harry's and Ginny's powers and ran with them! I was certainly hoping that HBP had been something along these lines, but I can only hope that what she has in store for the 7th is a bit more "macho" as your take on Harry and his status as AD's successor. He just has to pull his head out of Peter Parker's backside and remember that is power is love and let Ginny  in on it. I think AD's portrate or the girl herself are going to have to knock some sense into him.

Great writing, Great stoy, PLEASE finish it!!!

Let me put it this way...

There are stories that are really good... there are stories that are freakin' awesome... and then there's this.

Jeconais, you could've fooled me if you'd said that you were J.K. Rowling herself. Your style is incredible, you go into detail with everything where necessary... and your work just seems to flow in a logical, sensible manner that basically leaves me begging for more.

This is the mark of a true writer, and I hold you in the highest regard. The only complaint I have...

*Deep sigh of impressed-ness*

Wow, I canNOT believe your mix of humor, plot, charactarization, fluff, and pure awesomeness that you manage to fit into this. I can't wait for the final installment, but from the looks of it, it may be 200 pages long! This last chapter alone took me 3 days to read, sometimes more than two hours at a time. You are crazy, and I like it.

Keep up the great work!

Looking forward to the last chapter,

Lovley. I really enjoy this story, especially how you brought Sirius back. I'm not normally a big fan of people who do that, but you did it in a down-to-earth sensible way that I admire. Just one thing. How could he apparate when he was stupefied? (At least, I presume the 'red light' Bella sent at him was a stupefy spell).

Thanks for a great read, I'll definitely be back for the last chapter.

Another excellent chapter, despite not particularly like H/G you manage to make this a great read with the (usually) subtle touches of humor.

Though it's a very minor point I think Fred and George should really look into their future as bookmakers - those odds were not exactly suitable for making money - if Snape won they'd need more than 3.5 times as many people betting on Ginny than him to make a profit and if Ginny won they'd need twice as many people betting on Snape than Ginny to make a profit. Given that there were only two sides I'd have thought odds of 3/2 and 2/3 for Snape and Ginny respectively would be a lot more realistic or even 3/2, 1/2 -and even in both cases they would be betting on Ginny winning to make a profit.

That was fantastic. I did read it already at ff.net before the stupid rule came out. My name on there was DivaGurl277. I actually started a petition against the rule, and if you wanna join, just get my email address off of my profile on ff.net.

Brilliant! I don't usually start WIP, but when I stumbled upon this, it sounded too good to not try. And it's even better than I expected. I love your characterization of everyone. I love how the lighthearted fluffiness at the beginning merged into a firm plot with little twists and turns. I love how the houses all work together. I love Harry's girls. The whole thing is just wonderful.

This Means War!

Alright, well I already explained that this is my favourite story.

Now I've read this a few times, and I'm really sorry if you did mention it (cos it really annoys me when people ask questions that are really bloody clearly answered in the story)

but what happened to the Sadie Hawkins dance, did it happen? Did Harry and Ginny miss it?

There was something else I wanted to ask too, but I've completely forgotten what it was. Oh well. I'll write again if I remember.

Hope all is well in your world

Hey! I think that you've done a fantastic job on this fanfic. I've really enjoyed reading it and I'm waiting with bated breath to see what happens next! While Harry does seem to be a little mature for his age, esp after how he acted in the 5th book, I think that you've done a wonderful job of making it real. It feels right for Harry to be acting so mature in your story. Congrats, and I can't wait for the next part!

This Means War!

I read Naked Quidditch match a long time ago, seeing as I was a GT admin at the time, and was wondering what the hell such an obvious parody/-take was doing on our archives.  It was OOC, completely unrealistic, and more than a little weird.  However, once I'd read it ... I liked it.  Okay, so it wasn't canon, but it wasn't meant to be – it was a clearly defined parody of all that was HP, and it was funny.

So, when someone directed me to a new story that was based on the same concepts as NQM, I jumped at the chance to read it.  And since I always try to leave a complete and in-depth review of all long stories that I read, I tried to gather my thoughts to provide a coherent critique of my reading.  Please be assured that this review is certainly not meant to be a flame, no matter how harsh some of my comments may seem - a flame is a personal attack on the author, whereas a critique is my honest deconstruction of the story.

The first thing that really struck me, overall, about this story is that it really seems to be having somewhat of an identity crisis.  It doesn't really know what it's meant to be.  Certain elements of this story have the air of a parody, the same as NQM played up to very well indeed.  The Mmail format, the elements with Voldemort, Wormtail and the like are all plain spoken nods to the fact that the author of this piece doesn't really expect us to take this as a normal sixth year story - it's meant to be a parody; a subtle mickey-take of all that most serious authors take great pride in making angsty.  However, other aspects suggest that this could actually be considered as something that could well occur within the course of Harry's sixth year.

This duality doesn't help the story along at all, and gives rise to a certain amount of confusion as to just how we are to take this piece of fiction.  A story should be one of two things; a highly serious and realistic account of Harry's sixth year, or an unashamedly silly parody.  The serious story should stick true to the canonical rules, not including Mmail or any other devices, or the "James Bond villain" style approach to Voldemort.  The Parody should state quite clearly that it is a parody, and push the reality right out of the window, with Monty Python humour and Slartibartfast being named as the new DADA teacher.  A wishy-washy mix of the two just doesn't catch my interest, and falls short of succeeding on both counts.

My main thought is that the author really needs to decide which way they are going with this piece of fiction.  Do they want a serious, canonical approach to book 6, or do they wish to create a silly, joke filled alternate universe the likes of which Douglas Adams and the Monty Python crew would be proud of?  You can't do them both.

My next thought, being somewhat of a canon Nazi is that of character development.  While I've read this entire story, I can find absolutely no trace of Harry, Ron, Hermione or Ginny - they seem to be somewhat absent, having been kidnapped by the pod people. Alright, my opinion here could be countered by the claim that "after OotP they grew up," but I really don't think that this stands up in the face of real-world psychology.  People change, yes, but over a period of time ... The Harry we see in OotP, shy, not a clue about women, deeply traumatised, is not going to turn into a happy-go-lucky, student leader, awe-inspiring, all-powerful sex-god overnight.  While I can see how some individuals might want their heroes to remain heroic and their villains to remain suitably villainous, in the real world, things just do not happen this way; there are shades of grey.

The true litmus test of a developing character is this simple question ... "Can I relate this character to the one I saw in the last book?"  I'm afraid that, in this situation, the answer is no.  The difference in attitude of all the major characters since book 5 is huge, and I can't really see much reason for your decision to strengthen the characters in body and mind.  Part of the endearing nature to the people involved here is that they are not perfect.

Harry is not Arnie, nor is he Angel/Angelus ... He is Harry; the same flawed, rash, emotional individual we saw in book 5.  He is not going to heal this quick, nor is he going to give his trust away so quickly.  I really think you need to re-read all the HP books before attempting to define the characters within, as they really are slipping over into the "standard superhero definitions."  Even the minor characters give us hints as to what they are like, but TMW seems to simply pick personalities out of the air based on stereotypes rather than detailed analysis of canon; this I cannot support.

Sirius?  Well, I would start by saying that, If you wish us to believe that the mutt is still alive, then there needs to be a build up to this.  I was incredibly confused until you finally got around to explaining it.  Even so, I think that his resurrection had a lot more to do with artistic "license" than any real appreciation for canon.

Sirius was killed due to the application of a number of literary rules.  For those who do not understand, the Harry Potter series is a fairy-tale in seven parts, detailing one lost boy's search for a family.  The family of his past has been destroyed, so he needs to seek one in the future ... Sirius' role in the plot was of the "brief glimpse into what might have been."  As with all glimpses into the past, however, this had to die.

If you really intend to break all the literary rules as you don't like what JKR has done to him, then at least take the trouble to truly attend to the story, and not just throw it in as an "oh yes, here's the island where Sirius recovered."  This is a cheap trick and devalues the story.

Looking at the dialogue, I think that the author of this story needs to shadow students in an average secondary school.  I read this dialogue and imagine myself at the age of 16, and I can't imagine any 15/16 year old saying any of the things that Harry does here.  It's too mature.  I maybe can imaging Harry being this confident and this flirty at the age of 18/19, but not at 15/16 - he just isn't emotionally mature enough.

Character-wise, some things are extremely stuffed up.  Snape is far too nice, Dumbledore is less controlling, and the entire staff seem to be living in some sort of Alice in Wonderland fantasy.  If this story were a parody, I'd give it 10 out of 10, but I don't believe that this was the original intent.

I have to admit, I had some doubts about the ego of this author following the A/N after Chapter 8 regarding plagiarism, and the fact that an author wishing to use the Mmail format "didn't like the restrictions [Jeco] put on it - that they follow the genesis of Mmail from chapter four - and ignored them."  I nearly spit my drink through my nose at this, as I couldn't believe that the author had the arrogance to presume that he had the right to regulate what the Mmail format should be portrayed as.  Intellectual Property rights for the Mmail format are vested solely with Anya, with TMW being a derivative work, much in the same way that fanfiction is a derivative work of JKR's creation. The only person who has the right to determine what the Mmail format should be portrayed as is Anya, who was the original creator of this format.  Anyone else is merely copying her, and has no authority to restrict anyone else in what they do with this concept.  It was this, above all else, that left a bad taste in my mouth concerning this offering.

Add to this, the clear joy the author feels in making a 150 page chapter in MS Word. This is not a healthy size for a chapter. As a rather silly comparison, I would say that a chapter should very closely resemble a Cornish Pasty.  The meat and potatoes, which form the action and description (or cheese, onion and potatoes if you're a vege like me,) should be contained within the solid framework of a pastry plot and framework.  The whole package should be something you can pick up and carry anywhere you like, which can be easily scoffed for lunch, and which will fill an appetite until tea-time.  A fanfic chapter should be well-planned and executed.  It should have a point, be well timed, have a beginning, a middle and an end, and leave people feeling that they've got their money's worth.  It should not be a rambling monologue, like chapter 9, which ends whenever the writer finally gets bored, and which prevents true progression.

In summary, I believe that the author here has tried to provide a standard "hero stands against the dark forces and gets the girl he loves" affair, without really considering the personalities and the quirks of those involved.  If Harry does turn into a confident, powerful wizard, which I am sure he will, this will be over a long period of time, with the fruition being at the end of his seventh year at the earliest.  If he is to have a relationship with Ginny, he will have to get over his inherent problems when it comes to dealing with girls.  This is not something that will occur at the clap of a fanfic author's hands. but rather a gradual process that will encompass his growing knowledge.

I really do think that you need to practice writing "imperfect Harry", simply due to the external factors involved.  Harry isn't Superman, he isn't the one you've portrayed here, he's a 16 year old boy who's just looking for a few breaks in life.

Thank you for your interesting review.  I do admire your dedication in reading something that you obviously didn't like.

You have made some interesting points, and while I disagree completely about the plaigirms issue, perhaps if you had seen the story in question, you would understand.

My comments were for the very nice people who stood up for me, when someone cut and past vast swathes of my work in to their story.

What I have said to the many people who have asked me if they can use Mmails, is that I don't consider them to be in any way unique, and they can feel free.  However, if they want to use the system I invented, I would appreciate a thank-you.  This particular author didn't want to do that.

Chapter 9 ended exactly where I wanted it to, and was the size that felt right to me.  When it comes down to it, I don't write professionally, nor will I ever.  I write for myself, and if other people like it, that's good, if they don't, thats good too.

It is very unlikely that I will ever write "imperfect Harry" as doing so has no interest for me.  I write the stories that I want to read, and if no one else reads them or likes them, I will still have written the story that I wanted to.

Thank you again for your review.

This Means War!

well my guess for who the spy is would be penelope

my reason for this is she was present for the discussions about the takeover

when harry told everone his plans at diner also she would have known when percy was going to visit azkaban the first time and no one else at the table would have known that

since you seem to have forgotten that six students from school went to the ministry that night i am courious to know why you havent had neville play a more important part in this story ?

and i do hope that your not  going to make him out to be the spy for (moldy shorts) as j.k.r. has apptly proven that neville is a good guy not only for goingwith harry but for his actions while doing so dont forget neville was going to let the d.e.'s crucio him to keep them from getting the prophecy

and if anyone would know about that kind of pain it would have been neville as its doubtless that he has studied it and knows what it can do to a person

looking foward to your next update of this story on the edge of my seat

Wow. Another great chapter in a wonderful story. I can't wait to see how you wrap everything up in one chapter.

I don't know what I'm looking forward to the most. You still have me on pins & needles waiting for the prank on Sirius. Is Harry's relatives going to live long enough to be pranked by the Weasleys & company?

I could go on for a while, but I'll spare your eyes & my fingers.

I'll try to wait patiently for the next chapter.

Tim,

Well, it took my three full nights but I finally got through this (after most of week to read the first eight chapters). You will never be accused of selling your readers short. As usual, you've got an amazing amount of stuff going on and just about all of it is enjoyable.

In fact, there's so much going on in this chapter it's almost hard to know where to begin. I guess, it's the way you bend the characters to fit your purposes that I probably most impressed with. Harry can be everywhere, Sirius and Snape can be friends, Dumbledore can be in the dark and Harry can have his own team of worshipful clothing designers/interior designers, and there's backstory to explain all of it. It's even believable, with the right amount of willingness to suspend the 'facts' of canon. I can only imagine the amount work you must put in to accomplish that (though, given the length of your chapters I don't have to imagine too hard!).

I still think it's the humor that is most enjoyable, though. Harry and Ginny constantly having to beat back the 'competition' struck me a cute repetitive angle. Fred and George planning to blow themselves and the Death Eaters up and launch a promotional advert at the same time might be a bit morbid but their tongue-and-cheek attitute about it (and the gradiose nature of the plan) was great. And the way you crafted Luna's performance with Pansy just about killed me. Talk about using character's traits perfectly. I've got to feel back for the poor, starving narbuckles though.

I will say that the sappiness of the H/G in this chapter started to get to me (the reader with the canon-Snape-like regard for fluff) a bit. At no point after Chapter Two of this story do Harry or Ginny act like they're 16 and 15 years old and that's obviously true about how they feel about each other too. But with the  public displays of affection, they professors' and the Weasleys' liberal attitude toward their intimacy and the ring scene, it seemed a bit like you would much rather be working with 18- or 20-year-old characters and the options that would open up. But at least your characters had the good sense to shout down the OBHWF comment (even if they were acting it out)!

What I do like is how you're starting to bring the plot together -- getting all the . Weasleys in one place; developing the characters' skills; setting up big things in the report, the butterbeer takeover and the werewolf cure (even if I think that spell is complete bupkus in canon). And I like how you're not making the bad guys completely incompetent. In this chapter Voldemort almost kills Harry and the Death Eaters are on the attack. That bodes well for an exciting finish. And as unique and interesting as the games in this chapter were, I can't wait to see what you do with the big grudge quidditch match.

And lest I forget, I might as well make a guess as to the spy. Marietta the tackling dummy would be the obvious choice as she's already proven her ability to work behind peoples' backs in this story, but I can really see her having access to sensitive information after all her transgressions. Thus, my guess is Sinistra, who is obviously uncomfortable with the new order Harry's established at Hogwarts and who, as a teacher, would be in a better position to know certain things. But I'm probably way off.

Anyway, I could ramble on for another couple hundred words easily enough (you do), but I think I've said enough. Good job on another comprehensive and enjoyable piece of work.

I would hate for people to actually have a life and not be able to read all this in one go.  I've got a new story coming soon that I've pegged myself to only 20 pages a chapter... (more below)

I can only imagine the amount work you must put in to accomplish that (though, given the length of your chapters I don't have to imagine too hard!).
Although no one can accuse me of following canon, as long as my characters behave consistently in the story itself, I'm not going to worry about it to much.

And yeah, you do have to have some suspension of disbelief *laughs*

I still think it's the humor that is most enjoyable, though. Harry and Ginny constantly having to beat back the 'competition' struck me a cute repetitive angle. Fred and George planning to blow themselves and the Death Eaters up and launch a promotional advert at the same time might be a bit morbid but their tongue-and-cheek attitute about it (and the gradiose nature of the plan) was great. And the way you crafted Luna's performance with Pansy just about killed me. Talk about using character's traits perfectly. I've got to feel back for the poor, starving narbuckles though.
Fred and George's plan has been waiting for somewhere to put it since the third chapter - in fact, a lot of the stuff that's now showing up has been patiently waiting for it's turn on the show.  I've always seen the twins as a couple who will get the job done, regardless of the cost, and that as everyone underestimates them.
Luna's performance was the reason for Pansy and Marietta's playing in previous chapters.  I was planning ahead to get a situation where Luna can be "loony" and have some fun with it.

I was actually slightly irritated with myself when I realised that this had turned into a OBHWF fic, because I don't believe in that at all.  WK,GQ has a much more realistic attitude towards dealing with.
As for the character ages: You've hit on one of the two biggest flaws in my writing.  I do write older characters, and I didn't do a very good job in this story of giving them a reason for acting older.  I do prefer writing older characters, but I don't really like writing post-Hogwarts stories, so I'm kinda stuck in the middle.
The new story I mentioned earlier is a post-Hogwarts, so I'm going to see how I like writing that, and might change in the future (It's Harry/Gabrielle)
Oh, my other flaw? Perfect super-powered characters...
My plan for this is a full scale final battle.  All the clues are in place for how it's going to happen.  There's a time line I'm following, and it's going to be soon.  I think it would be selling the story short to do a quick and easy kill of Voldemort, because it's what I've been building up to all the story.

My original plan for Remus was to actually do the "pain spell" I mentioned, as the way for them to find out that Harry has a serious weakness, but I didn't think it really fit in with the shiny-happy-people nature of this story.  I agree that the Spell sounds like bunkum, but in this story, Remus is the only character not getting anything, so I had to do something for him ;)

*laughs* Yeah, way off... the clues are there, pretty much every part since part 5 gives a clue or two about who it is, and everything is interconnected... but it wont be that long (relatively) till you find out who.
Anyway, I could ramble on for another couple hundred words easily enough (you do), but I think I've said enough. Good job on another comprehensive and enjoyable piece of work.
Glad you liked it :)

Tim, you've got a great story going here.  I'm hooked.  I am really looking forward to Chapter 10.  The dialog, the interpersonal relations, the pacing, the descriptions... everything about this story draws me in and makes it a real life experience.  Fantastic job.  And, for the length of it, you have very few spelling errors. Your betas/editors have, no doubt caught many errors, but they still missed a few (i.e.It must have been on of the Weasley Wheezes...) in this latest chapter. grin

Anyway keep up the good work.

Too bad McCaffrey doesn't permit fanfic.  I'd love to read some of that.

Actually; I'm glad Tim isn't writing Pern fic; because I was never able to get into the first book of the Dragonriders; and would be missing a lot of his excellent writing.

Yo.  Tim.   I've got it.  It's Slitscythe.  He knew of the plan, and Pancy had already informed him on the Thomas's and Dursleys'.

Personaly i hope the Dursleys' survive, Harry and company saving the day, and the punishments that they rightly deserve come to play.

What might also be interesting would be Dudley actually managing to save Harry as he was distracted by something.  Another foe perhaps.

Definatly put him in good graces with the Weasleys', Blacks, and Ginny.

Another great chapter.  Look forward to more.  Less then three months.

YAAY!!!!!

Ahem.  With the preliminary squealing over, I would like to say I am very very pleased that you've updated.  I love this story!  I wonder who the spy is.  You say the clue's in the story, but... hmm.  Interesting.

The duel-y thing between Harry and Dumbledore was great fun to read.  It reminded me a little of the duel between Merlin and Madam Whatsherface in The Sword in the Stone.  Much cool magic-flinging going on there too, but I think I like the friendlier tone!

As always, looking forward to more!  ;-)

This Means War!

I was so happy to see this story updated; I've missed it terribly.  I must admit, just  before I read it I'd an email "discussion" with a H/Hr shipper.  We have long-running friendly debates over our ships.  Anyway, she'd asked about you and I gave her SUCH a hard time about looking for one of the wonderful H/G writers out there...then I read your A/N about exploring other ships.  I have to say...I was crushed.  And none to pleased to have to go back to my H/Hr friend and eat crow either.  So, big fat raspberry for bailing on the "right" ship.

Now, the story was wonderful.  It still has the power to make me laugh out loud, and I so love protective Weaslesy.  I love Ron and the boys not only coming around, but aplogizing as well.  I'm so glad he has Ginny to help him get through the emotional effects of having to kill.  As I was reading, even though I was enjoying (and it took me ALL day to get through it - thank you!) I found myself really sad.

I couldn't figure out why but the sadness persisted until I finally realized it's because canon Harry DOESN'T have the support system you've given him.  So, I wish you much luck and creativity in getting this final chapter done.  (And I'm crossing my fingers that you'll find your way back to the H/G ship).

Wednesday 20th April 2005 06:24This Means War! (Author Response)
Should I mention that your friend might have read "Like a Sister", a H/Hr fic that I put on Portkey last week?

One of the points of this story for me was to give Harry what I thought he was lacking in canon - and in this case, it's a full support system and family - so he can accept that he is the hero.

I'm not abandoning HG, or anything, I'm just branching out... so far I've done Harry/Pansy, Hannah, Padma, Gabrielle, Hermione, and of course, Ginny.  HG will always be my favourite, as it's was my first, but I need the variety of going in different places.

Glad you enjoyed the part :)

This Means War!
If it's possible to double-take at a computer screen, that's what I did when I saw your name on the recently added list...I love this story, but I had given up hope of ever seeing it completed. I immediately sat down and read it start to finish, resulting in missing dinner and being late to a meeting for my senior thesis, but it was worth it...I love, love, love this story! It's about time Harry got a break, was allowed to actually get used to his role and power, get the girl, and be allowed to be HAPPY for longer than two paragraphs as a lead into something tragic...looking forward to the conclusion!

This Means War!

Status: Incomplete at Review (9 Chapters)
Initial Comments:
This is my second review of this story. The original review was at
the end of chapter 8, however this one will include updated points
for chapter 9.
I read a lot of fanfiction. A LOT. In fact, 90% of my spare time is
spent reading.
I'll be the first to say that I really like good Ship stories. My
personal preference (as I am very analytical, and I believe that
it's more likely the final one) in Harry Potter Ships is H/Hr. This
doesn't mean that it's all I read by any means. Of the three stories
that got me into HP fanfics, one has both H/Hr and H/G, another is
H/G, and the other is H/Hr. Even split. I've read good stories that
are H/Tonks, and even Polyamorous stories--I simply like good
stories.
I was intrigued by 'Naked Quidditch Match' and the use of 'Mmail'. I
really liked the layout of the story, and so when I heard that 'This
Means War!' used the same format -partially-, I really wanted to
read it too. So, I've tracked it down and done so. Four times. Once
reading it aloud to my girlfriend. I must say I really like this
story, and I cannot wait to see the completion. Now I have to read
it aloud again, so my girlfriend can catch up. (She doesn't like to
sit and read. She likes to listen.)

Story / Creativity - 9.5/10 [was 9/10 - Half Point Increase]
[ * * * * * * * * * / ]
The storyline is very good and believable. I could really see
something like this happening, honestly. For a humor based fic, you
must look past all the seriousness that has come out of the HP
Canon. I don't mean forget it, but look past it and find the places
to put jokes. Bringing in the 'pranking' bloodline within Harry was
a very believable way to do this. I can also see Ginny being able to
start this, so the creativity and story is well based, and it is
something I really haven't seen on this level. I have seen somewhat
similar stories, but this one has the unique qualities, adding
appropriate new twists, and integrating one idea with others quite
well. Not only that, but with the new plot points in chapter 9, much
is coming together, showing a much more thought out story than was
originally hinted at. Along with discussion on three or four major
points in the discussion groups around this story, there are things
to come that are hidden deep and have been hinted at since the
middle chapters. Much creativity was used to build a deep storyline.

Characterization / Use of Source - 8/10 [was 8/10 - No Change]
[ * * * * * * * * x x ]
This one is a little more hurt. Yes, I believe the characters--
especially Harry and Hermione, are out-of-character. I DO believe,
however, that it is done in a believable way. Harry is shocked into
a personality change, and Hermione growing up a little being dragged
along works well. Many many of the original Canon elements are
mentioned and flow in smoothly, although Sirius's survival has just
a bit of shaky foundation. Still believable, so it doesn't hurt the
score much at all. Well portrayed of all characters, and the changed
personalities are even kept very close. I find Fred and George to be
portrayed almost perfectly, and Percy to be portrayed exactly right.
I can really see the Weasley boys doing this. I really can. I don't
see much change in this score possible, because that's how this
story has been written--it's the basis that scores here, not the end
result.

Grammar / Spelling - 10/10 [was 10/10 - No Change]
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
Spelling is excellent. Grammar is excellent as well. I have noticed
one or two minor--and I do mean minor--grammatical mistakes, but
these would not be noticeable to an uncritical eye. Besides,
everyone has their own unique writing style, and even I use
spellchecking software. I know that no human can catch every
mistake, and computers are far from perfect at finding them as well.
I am very impressed with the extensive Beta system used for this
story.

Quality / Length - 10/10 [was 10/10 - No Change]
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
Story is a very nice length. Currently, even though it is
incomplete, it is as long as the novels. 167K words, plus whatever
else is in the next chapters, making it a very long epic story.
(Order of the Phoenix, in comparison, is 264,000 words, and Goblet
of Fire is 195K. One more chapter, and this will be just as long as
the canon.) Writing quality is very good, effectively on par with
the original books, while adding in the unique traits of fanfiction.
Excellent work.

Theme / Presentation - 10/10 [was 10/10 - No Change]
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
The story's theme is that of humor, with an underlining focused
plot. Good-natured humor surrounded by the continuing life of
someone 'destined' to be great, and who is proving that he is
reaching the point that is has become what he was destined to be.
This is held wonderfully all the way through the story. Serious
scenes pop up along the way, as one would have to have in a HP
fanfic of any length, but these are surrounded by light-natured
scenes constantly. Many little cliffhangers, scenes shifting to keep
you thinking until you return to find out what happened, keep you
reading onward. Wonderful transitions, many timed to break scenes,
while others keep going until they are resolved. Molded nicely all
around from start to finish.

Fic Rating - Average of the Above Scores
47.5/50 -> 95/100 -> 95%
Modifier: Incomplete (Automatic): -05%
Rating at Current: 90%
[ * * * * * * * * * x ]
Nine Stars out of Ten

Advice to Author:
Keep listening to the discussion comments. I really think they
improved the quality of the story in the last chapter, however with
the scores the story deserved and earned as they were, a grade
really cannot show the increase being based in a system like this.
Keep writing and looking for the tiny improvements you can add--they
really do make a story much more.

Final Comments:
Definatly in my list of the "Best of the Best" in Harry Potter
Fanfiction. I have been waiting for this updated, and I must say I
wasn't dissapointed. Chapter 8 ended on a major cliffhanger, and I'm
glad this one didn't do the same. It's much easier to enjoy what's
been written if you're not highly annoyed and desperatly waiting for
the next part. Additions such as the Luna and Pansy incident, and
the 'SPAM' email (that originated in the discussion groups and made
it's way into the story) truly give it those moments where you have
to stop reading to catch your breath after laughing. This is my favorite story in the H/G Ship category, and most likely will remain so.

I know many of the sections above didn't change much, if any, from
the previous review. The reasoning behind that is that it is the
same story--simply with a little more added to it, therefore, the
same review should, for the most part, be valid still.

Final words? Keep it up, and bring on the next part soon.

I actually don't think I've ever reviewed this story. Found it several months ago and I have been patiently waiting (NOT!) for updates. Great writing, great everything...just keep it up. I did spend the last hour reading this. Seriously though, just an amazing read. I can't wait until you update!

Okay,  should I jump on you for making me wait so long, or for it taking halfway to eternity to read it? Novel length chapters!  Even Jo would be astonished. Then, despite it's length, you give me a cliff hanger!  Really, Tim, you're despicable!  And a genuis. :)  Did I mention that I put up with all this suspense and cliff hanging and time consuming reading because I really, really like your fic?   Nice work!

Wel, it took me a while, but I finally managed to read it all (at least once). I might contact you through your yahoo group for a Q or two when I finally go around to do the translation. Great chapter, as always Tim. Kudos!

This Means War!
Since Monday I've been trying to get a massive amount of work done as our spring break starts on Wednesday. I didn't need the distraction of a wonderful fic to read, unfortuneately I found one. I've really enjoyed this and I can't wait for the next update. I also really like the idea of harry being able to do anything he thinks he can do, even if he seems a little too all powerful in the fic, I think it's a really cool idea. I was wondering, with the Mmail thing, while I realize since it's not in the books, there isn't a way to explain it, but I was wondering whether or not you had an explanation as to why they didn't use Mmail until now?

Thank you for saying this ....

But I will be one sad stalker when TMW! get done...afterall,it is the reason I started stalking in the first place!

Good job,sweetie!

Can't wait for the next chapter...It took me two and a half hours to finish this....umm....around five the next time?*me very greedy*

Ron had a look on his face that was half a laugh, half complete relief, and half regret.  “You two really need to get away,” he mumbled.
AND
“Actually I told Harry to put Ginny to bed,” Molly corrected.

Okay, I think that makes EVERYONE in favor of them being together in every sense of the word.  You just enjoy torturing them, don't you? ;)

Too bad McCaffrey doesn't permit fanfic.  I'd love to read some of that.

Looking forward to the next one.

Tim, as always, a very fun romp.

There were a few typos - an "on" that probably really wanted to be a "one" and so forth.

Just as a technical point - wolves don't bark.  Dogs bark - foxes yip, but wolves, they whistle, howl and make a grammely sound, but they don't bark.

Why?  Dunno.

...
230+ reviews later, I'm speechless.
This chapter had so much, I can't detail it.

Only one thing to say: I read this during work. In pieces, bit by bit. The 'spark' of hope that Bill and Percy talk about? I was bouncing all around the room today, happy and snickering like mad -- my coworkers thought I was nuts. This has been one of the happiest fanfics out there. Loved the day off, the animagus training, Harry and Gin's self-control over their physical selves, the Bella scene, the game of 'Wizard Ball' that Harry and Dumbledore played (Sounded a lot like Calvin and Hobbes' "Calvin Ball") and so much more. You deserve a big round of applause.

Harry and Snape, Dumbledore and Harry -- you've got the banter bug, and you use it well. Kudos.

You write more story in one chapter than most people manage in a whole fic! Not that this is a bad thing in any way at all - you definitely delivered on this long-awaited chapter.  The only real problem is that it's now 1am and I'm too tired to write you a proper review: the only helpful thing I can point out is that you used 'email' instead of 'mmail' at least one point that I noticed.

Were you deliberately echoing McCaffrey's dragonriders and Edding's Wolf with the Crenth and Animagus scenes? If so, nice  - and if not, a nice coincidence - it's nice to see old friends appearing in a new story ;)

Loved the chapter, the story continues to be heaps of fun, and I'm looking forward to the next one already :) (I really want to see Harry meet the Dursely's again...)

thanks always for writing,

Not as much echoing, but yeah, I have been influenced by both McCaffrey and Eddings.  If McCaffrey didn't hate fanfiction, I'd probably be writing stories on Pern instead of Hogwarts.

This Means War!

Most entertaining as always.  I'm not so convined that Ginny needs to go through all the effort the other girls put into making her look good though - bearing in mind how easy it was for Lavender and Parvati to 'break' Harry just by getting him to imagine Ginny in the short skirt (from the earlier chapter), I would have thought he'd be happier with her 'au naturel', but hey...

I'm looking forward to you tying all the loose ends together, and seeing how they help Harry defeat He-whose-name-must-be-hyphenated.

My guess for the spy is Professor Sinistra.  She's jealous of the freedon Harry gets.

Tuesday 19th April 2005 06:30This Means War! (Author Response)
erm, that was one of the two points for the scene.  The other point was how unfair it is that Harry can just role out of bed, use a bit of magic, and be fine... while Ginny goes through everything.  It was also a bonding scene for all the girls.
As for the short skirt, Lavender and Parvati knew how powerful the image was for Harry, and so created it as perfect as they could for him...

And Sinistra? nope :)

This Means War!

After such a long time I was worried that I wouldn’t like this. And to begin with I didn’t. I had a problem with Super!Harry, he was just too super. I think the gap meant that I wasn’t in the flow of things and it took me time to adjust to the world I was in. But as the chapter went on I found myself drawn in and at the end I was frustrated that there wasn’t more – some people are never satisfied are they?

Good to see a few nods to films and TV - George P Wildebeast included. Mind you with George P W and Molly it began to feel like the whole of Dudley was in attendance *grin* As ever you are a bit transatlantic in your phrases, but that is pretty small beer. I liked the Animagus scenes the best and would hope to see more.

As I’ve said, Hannah had a big smile on her face this morning but there may be too many hormones in this chapter for her.

Thanks Tim.

This Means War!
Before I start I want to say that I really loved the first chapters of this story: they were funny, refreshing and interesting. This is by no means a flame, I'm just going to say what bothers me:

1. I've noticed that you like to skewer clichés. However, this story has slowly turned into a SuperHarry-story. There's no fun in a story where the protagonist just has to wave his hand and everything is alright again. Harry asking for Ginny's hand in the near future is another cliché and while I do enjoy fluff from time to time, this chapter had a bit too much.
2. While I appreciate a nice long chapter, I appreciate regular posting even more. Though I have to admit that very few authors can pull off regular posting and long decently written chapters (Chris Dee, St. Margarets and a few others seem to be able pull it off however.). Because I had to wait so long, I forgot the storyline and had to read the previous chapter again after which I was so tired I just skimmed this chapter. Which is probably a shame. Although I have to commend you on the excellent grammar and spelling (better than this review but hey, it's morning and English is only my fourth language).
3. Another thing that bothers me is the way how characters are portrayed. Suddenly everyone is happy and friendly and huggy and burrying life-long grudges. It's too black and white and lacking depth too me. There's different shades of grey between black and white and that's why Snape is Snape in Rowling's books. This Snape has lost all his uses, he has just become another cheery good guy.

Once again: this is NO flame. I'm sorry if it looks that way but I'm just saying some things that I thought needed to be said. I'd be lying if I said "Nice chapter" but it's not going to stop me from following your other stories. Anyway, this'll give other people an opportunity to use this icon when describing me.
Tuesday 19th April 2005 04:41This Means War! (Author Response)
I wouldn't say it was slowly turning - it's been that way since the start.  I've always planned for this to be a super-powered story, and each chapter has been increasing that since the second and third when it was realised that Harry could do anything he sets his mind to.

This chapter only took two weeks to write, and another two weeks to be betad, so its not chapter length that causes the time between chapters, it's my interest, and as I said in my author notes, I've been playing around with a lot of other pairings and writing other stories.

As for the characters, I agree, they are supposed to be happy and friendly.  This is a shiny happy fanfic, it's aim isn't to be dark and moody, and the reason that this chapter is particular is like this, is because it's the second to last chapter.  Everyone needs to be on board for the final chapter, and that thats where they are.

And no, I didn't think what you put could be considered a flame in any way.  You made some good points, and I certainly won't dispute your right to them.

This is a wonderful chapter - hilarious!!!  My favorite line -->

“is the most fun I’ve had since Albus and I went on a Mediterranean Cruise with the Mother of All Saints Nunnery.”

Please tell me that you will explore this further.

All joking from the Yahoo group aside, damned good Tim.  I've got to make a mental note to myself to not be drinking anything while reading your stories.  The spam was funny as hell.

Although, using an improved wand in public wouldn't be very nice... LOL

A question though, even if they manage to disrupt the HAOBb lines, that doesn't mean Lucius can continue with all of his old stuff, right?  The patent was bought jointly by Gred, Forge, and Harry.  And killing all three of them would be a damned hard thing to do to get that patent released.

The only bad thing about finishing a chapter of this is the wait times for the next one.  Hopefully it won't be too awful long.

This Means War!

Tim - As usual, Excellent chapter, I bloody LOVED it!!!!!! And it was well worth waiting for.  Poor Harry & Ginny, I think they might explode from sexual frustration before too much longer.  The whole teasing going on at the picnic was just downright evil.

And did you have to leave that cliffie there?  Of course, you did! J

And, I’m still not sure I know why you threw the spam mmail in there, although it was very funny.  Did I miss the email from the yahoo group that explained the reasoning behind it?  Can’t wait to see who LV’s new spy at Hogwarts is…did I tell you that cliff-hanger was evil (although almost predictable by not having Harry dress in his uniform that day, just in case something happened.  I kept expecting the DM’s to attack at the picnic, but I’m glad you let them have their day of fun (and the way Harry beat DD was just priceless!)

Loved, loved, loved it, and I hope you finish it off before HBP comes out (I know you’re not working on anything else at the moment, so it shouldn’t be a problem, right?!? J ) Just kidding, I loved the chapter and your sense of humor definitely hasn’t dulled any in the months since you’ve updated.

Cheers,

Rachael

*grins* I am being a bit cruel to them... but its fun.

Yes... I did have to leave the cliff hanger ;)

The spam is there for a reason, and Elsielann got it right on the group.

And yeah, I wanted them to have a full day off, bizarre idea as it seems...

and no, not much else...

This Means War!

I am so glad that there will not be a massive wait like there was for this one.

That being said, THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! I swear no one writes fanfiction like you do. When I was just a wee person, and stumbling into my obsession of Harry Potter yours was the first story I had read. So its your fault that I am hooked on fanfiction. Well done. I love your story!
