Good start, well written, so allow me to point out two weak points: the orderly appearance of No. 4 should hold some appeal to Hermione, whereas Harry's chaos wouldn't be her cup of tea. And Harry is awfully rude about Godric's Hollow. - Just two thoughts, no substantial problems. Looking forward to ch. 2.

I love how you begin this story with Hermione's perspective. I hope we'll see more of what's going on in her head as the story progresses. The fact that she and Ron are able to and do use magic at the Dursleys to make their living arrangements more pleasant is a nice touch, especially when they are discovered by Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. Also, I was encouraged when Harry stood up to them. This is a very nice start to another one of your truly entertaining narratives. I definitely look forward to your next chapters.

Nice start to a new fic. I like the way you personify the characters, very illustrious. It makes it easy to be drawn into the story. Thanks for sharing it.

Interesting start. I wonder how Harry's going to deal with Kreacher when they move into Grimmauld Place. ...and how much 'Dung has filched from there, too! I like your Harry so far - he's brooding, but can still function and has a plan (I assume! It sounds like it, anyway).

I am glad that you are writing again. I check your website periodically and thought that maybe you had quit writing. This story sounds promising. I am anxious to read the next chapter.:)

I've always wondered what it would be like for Hermione, living in 2 worlds as she has been doing. You've worded what I was imagining perfectly and I applaud your talent to do so. As for the introduction to the rest of the story, it sounds intruiging. Harry sounds like he's grown up a little but he and Ron are still obtuse, ignorant, and immature boys and you've kept them that way. This chapter has all the setup for intrugue, drama, romance and adventure. My favourite kind of story. I'll look forward to the next chapter!

Great first chapter. You wrote Hermione's point of view really well, it was refreshing to hear her thoughts. I'm interested in seeing where you take this.

Whee! Mr Intel's back! Mr Intel's back! *ahem* A very strong start to what looks like quite an interesting story. I enjoyed seeing things from Hermione's point of view (and I loved the lemonade analogy!). I agree with her; this is going to be an interesting year, and I can't wait to see the rest of it. Welcome back, Michael! You've been missed!

What a great start to the story.  I loved Hermione's perspective.  I particularly loved seeing her understand what it was like to be Harry Potter.  It was gripping for me to read that.  You have alluded to many interesting aspects, such as Harry's feelings for Ginny and Hermione's opinion that Harry's noble act was doomed to failure; it will be fun watching them play out in your story.  Can't wait for the next chapter.

This is off to a nice start.  I like how things started out from Hermione's perspective.  That was an interesting and well-done twist.  I think you managed to capture her character and her motivations rather well.  I also enjoyed the bit there at the end where she was upset about Harry stealing a library book.  Vintage Hermione!

I really enjoyed writing from Hermione's perspective and hope to be able to do it again in the future. She's a fun character. :D

An interesting start and I look forward to reading this as it continues. One thing, though: I don't understand why Hermione had to write the address for Harry and Ron. That's how Dumbledore did it, but surely that was only because he couldn't be there to tell Harry himself. Writing it down isn't part of the charm, only being the only one who can tell others about it. Ah well. I'm probably mistaken.

Can't wait for your next chapter!
Friday 20th January 2006 08:40The First Horcrux (Author Response)
Well, I don't think she *had* to write it down, but that seemed the best way to her at the time.  Most people (Hermione included) don't like to fix things that aren't broken.  She knew that was how it had been done in the past and so that was how she did it for Harry and Ron.  Besides, it seemed to be a bit more dramatic that way.

Yes.  I plan on addressing Harry and Ginny's breakup a bit differently than I have in the past.  This will be closer to what I think JK intends (at first).  But I plan on turning things on their ear as soon as I can.  It's much more fun to twist plots that way.

Great start.  I'm always pleased when an author remembers that Ron and Hermione said they were going to Privet Drive.  I'm eager to see Hermione's reaction to the abysmal treatment Harry receives from the Dursleys.
Friday 20th January 2006 08:36The First Horcrux (Author Response)
Indeed!  Unfortunately, I've kept the Dursleys out of the picture for most of this story.  Perhaps as I go through the chapters I've written already, I'll revisit that.  It's nice to have another author critique my writing and I hope that I can live up to your expectations.

This is the first post-HBP fic I've started to read, and so far, I like it. Your writing style is great - not too complicated, not too simple, just right. I like where you're going with this so far, I'll be looking out for updates.

I appreciate that.  One of my goals is to keep things simple enough to reach everyone, but complicated enough to push readers a little.  Thanks for the review.

Actually, it's going to be at least 50-75k words (possibly more).  It all depends on the muse and the time spent in front of the keyboard.
