Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Futures Past
This really is a brilliant story. The way you've written it and the storyline you've developed are interesting and well written.
From some of Harry's nightmares it's obvious his "first life" and "the first war" were totally different than the HP series. That is really great because there is no way to anticipate when he might be making changes he shouldn't.

(Looks like University is really going to slow down the rate in which I review these chapters. Praise on all the chapters will come eventually!)

Another well-written chapter, and it's good to hear Harry's views on how Draco is changing. One of the great things that J.K. does is place Harry in part as the narrator of the whole story, and you have captured this brilliantly in your own writing. Harry's musings over the recent months are well delivered, and help bring us closer to him.

I also applaud the Hermione/Snape scene; it's good to see the cruelty and spite of this version of Snape really shining through. Hermione's determined and mature response is also a nice touch, especially when compared to Ron's implied fury. The culmination of the scene, with Harry finally letting go of his constraints a little, was very vividly written, and is a picture I'll keep with me.

Next we have another future nightmare, and it's brilliantly heartbreaking to hear Tonks using her famous "wotcher" phrase even as she's dying. Harry's bitterness is really effective too, giving far more insight into future-Harry's attitude than any actions would.

There are so many well-written scenes in this chapter, but Dumbledore's conversation stikes me as one of the best. You manage to combine the lovable character of Dumbledore, Harry's emotional pain, and Harry's manipulations all into one conversation, and it leaves me hoping that Dumbledore will eventually be open-minded enough for Harry to trust him. It also leaves me hoping Dumbledore's fate will be changed this time.

Christmas morning was also a favourite scene, and it almost feels like the reader's own Christmas, discovering the gifts everyone bought for each other. Harry's present for Ron was a nice touch, using details I barely remembered from "The Philosopher's Stone"; you really have an excellent memory for the finer details of J.K's work, which makes for an even more authentic Merger-Harry.

Finally, you deserve a special applause for how Harry deals with the dragon-smuggling, and his bartering with Peeves. Every time I read that, I can't help but smile.

You have written another brilliant chapter, one that I could read again and again.

mwahahahah " His mind kept conjuring images of an older Ginny, and thoughts that an eleven-year-old boy should not be having about a ten-year-old girl"

bwahahahah now for the ticker.. is it pedophilia for the underage to think about the underage? lol harry must be going nuts internally..

god i love this story.

Another excellent chapter. No redemption for Snape in this story though. Ah well, his character is complex enough that fans have arguing for both good and evil Snapes. I think Harry is being too hard on Dumbledore. If he could tell him everything he would have a very powerful ally in his fight. On a lighter note, my love for Gred and Forge is eternal. You write the twins very well.

"Luv" is a fairly common affectionate nickname for a friend of the opposite gender. It doesn't imply that they had a physical relationship. (She was with Remus until he died and Harry never got over Ginny.)

So Hagrid still had Norbert. Interesting piece about Norbert and Charlie -- hope it doesn't have to come true this time .

Wow, so much good stuff in this chapter. Snape and Hermione, the "talk" with Dumbledore, Hagrid and Norbert, Christmas and Ginn'y letter...all wonderfully done. The flashback to Tonks was short but powerful, and Harry's memory of Charlie and Norbert as well.

Great job with this story!

Ahhhh, the plot thickens. Never mind soup, this is becoming a hearty stew. Too many questions on moral judgements to ponder but I love the choices you've made for the storyline; especially the closer relationship with Neville. The reprecussions though, of so many changes from their original paths, will be interesting to see. I am thoroughly enjoying your story and wait patiently as I am sure some realities of the impact of these changes will be made evident soon.

My continuing thanks, for sharing this with us.

Haha. Brilliant chapter. I loved it. I'm glad that Harry finds comfort in all the little synchronicities. That was brilliant, Hermione was able to pull one over on Harry. How suspicious. Snape was following them this time, I wonder what made that change. Hm, I do wonder what Harry would see in the Mirror of Erised this time around, probably all of his friends, would Ron's ambitions have changed though? That's the interesting question, because Harry's given him a bit of self confidence that he lacked the first time around. Woah. The quidditch match was amazing, they trounced the Puffs. I was thinking about that too. About how Harry can contact Sirius at Azkaban now that he knows he exsists. And possibly capture Ron's rat again, it would prove a little more difficult than normal though I guess. I wonder how the end of the year is going to happen. Harry hasn't really been tracking the stone like he did last time. Will he just arrive to defeat Quirrell? This story is soo interesting and throught provoking! I love it. Haha, that thing with Ginny. I was thinking about that as well. It's very odd, I must say. Even when Harry gets old enough to start dating her he'll still be 30 years old in his head. Odd. I wonder what will happen with the Chamber next year! Please update as soon as you can! Brilliant job!

Yeah, Harry has foreknowledge of what happened in CANON... but when he changes things, he reintroduces uncertainty into the mix. And things can come back to bite him.

Harry would see a 16 year old Ginny, a 29 year old Hermione, a 30 year old Ron, and all the other people he lost in the war.

Stay tuned for Sirius situations.

Merged-Harry's mental age is kind of complicated. He's a mix of his 11 year old and older selves. And the older Harry may have been chronologically 30, but his social and emotional development pretty much ground to a halt at 17 when Ginny died. Since then he was constantly embroiled in a hopeless war. You average 11 and 17, you get 14, and even that's a little generous, given the PTSD and dissociative disorder symptomology. Harry also has the endocrine system and hormonal balance of an 11 year old right now.

So yeah, it's weird, but then again, so is Harry.

Why don't they ditch Snape and study on their own? They'll soon have dirt on Snape once Hermione figures out what he is doing and Dumbledore would dislike for the group to file a complaint with the Board not only for his going through their minds but also for the "There are many with far less tolerance for precocious Mudbloods than I.” remark.

Love the flashbacks to the old future, but even more how you are handling Nev. Amazing what good friends and some encouragement can do for you. What happened to his bad memory?

“Don’t ever speak to me of those people again!” he hissed
-I think this Dumbledore will see more similarities between Harry and Tom.

“I wasn’t trying to Malfoy your Christmas, Harry.”
-Malfoy as verb? Could be funny if it catches on with the whole house.

Hermione got her in a choke hold
-Hah! Nice turn around. Looking forward to the duelling club.

Excellent work all around.

Harry can buy a bit of time if he takes care of Crouch, Jr. An anonymous letter to Moody perhaps?

1) Well, they are still only 11 years old. Hard to cut classes all the time.

2) Neville's memory was mostly a confidence issue - that and the fact that he was repressing a lot of unpleasant memories about his parents. All the associated links tended to suffer as a result (see schematic linkage theory of memory saliency and activation).

3) Harry does inadvertantly do this, and it has been examined in a chapter that will be posted soon.

4) Verb-ing is fun for the whole family.

5) Funny that. And I was looking forward to writing that dueling club scene for a long time.

6) That's one way to do it.

I enjoy reading this fic, and it is pleasing to know that there are so many chapters completed. I will try and resist the urge to head to ff.net to read it all, instead enjoying all the action one chapter at a time.
I am glad that Harry has settled down and isn't changing things too much. Look forward to more.
