Would you at least consider writing a sequel to this if JKR chooses to kill Harry in the end. Please

I really enjoyed this chapter. Ron is my favorite character and I love the very real sense I get when reading his sections. "Bloody Hell" has become my favorite saying, I can just hear him saying it. Great job.

I like the battle of the snorers
'Harry remembered his first summer at the Burrow' -- what about the showers at Hogwarts?
'that’s just as bigoted and narrow-minded as the Malfoys’ view of Muggles' - Yes; and I think JKR intended that
'I think Dudley and Malfoy could have actually been mates' -- is that 'prophetic' as Dudley is now a magician; though I guess its not likely as Dudley would be a mudblood, and we know how Malfoy feels about them.
'Priori Incantatum' -- I think you mean Prior Incantato, the spell to see what the last spell a wand was used for. And then there's Priori Incantatem which is not a spell but the effect produced when 'brother' wands are used against each other; unless you're creating a new spell?
It looks like Hermione has taken on a new project; instead of the house-elves, it's the Dursleys -- looks like she's having the same measure of success
'I’ll be of age in a few weeks' -- so they're leaving before his birthday; wouldn't it be wiser to stay at Dursleys while he has the magical progection?
Go Ron; you tell 'em.
'He could see a crude drawing of a birthday cake with candles drawn in different colors with gradual improvement in the drawing. He remembered adding to it each year on his birthday' -- very moving picture.

I really liked this chapter. Hermione's persistence to befriend the Durlseys was typical. I love reading loyal!Ron and the ending was perfect. For Hermione to lose her control to the point of using one of the Prince's spells on a Muggle was priceless.

Boy, you did a wonderful job with the garden scene. Just by presenting Dudley with the idea of his potential power you were able to show how terrifying a character he could be with a wand in his hand. Riddle's absolutely the right comparison because Dudley's already proven he's cruel enough to use his strength simply to torment others and because you very convincingly portray a lust for power in him.

Dudley’s eyes gleamed, as if a light switch had just been turned. “I could make them do anything I wanted, couldn’t I?”

That's such a freaky moment, and I just love it because it has so much potential. If Dudley's sudden willingness to stand up to Petunia is any indication, he could make a great background villian. I'll definitely be hoping we see him again at some point in the story.

Elsewhere, I thought you did a nice job keeping Ron and Hermione in character. Ron's quick tongue kept things lively in light of the typical Dursley antics. And I especially liked Hermione's explosive burst of rage at the end. She might typically be the most diplomatic major character in canon after Dumbledore (another point you've brought across well here), but she's also probably the most dangerous when angered. Good job illustrating that.

What I'm not so sure about is all of Harry's internal debates about Ginny. One of the biggest character traits I took out of the last two books is that Harry can be almost completely single-minded when he wants to be, and it certainly seemed like he was entirely focused on destroying Voldemort (and, perhaps, Snape) at the end of HBP. I think Harry's going to resist any potential distractions strongly, and since you seem to be indicating in your author's note that Ginny's going to play a major role, you're going to have to convince me of why he'd let her back in. In that regard, I'm definitely finding your stated preference of angst over fluff encouraging.

Anyway, you've definitely got my curious as to what you're planning next. Thanks again for your efforts!

Thanks! You will see Dudley again, but you'll have to wait awhile for it. As for my love of angst, I do have to clarify one thing - I love dramatic angst, but not romantic angst. I have no patience for that, actually. In canon, I agree with you - Harry will be too focused on the Horcruxes. Still, JKR did say there was always time for a little romance, and in fanfiction, I like Ginny to be in the story. I just thought I'd give you fair warning.

hmm, wow...i really liked the chemistry in the beginning of the chapter between Harry, Ron, Hermione and the Dursleys...i especially found the way you wrote Harry to be very amusing...i had a smirk on my face just about every time you wrote about how Hermione would try to chat up Petunia or something of the like...haha.

but yeah...i tried to put off reading this fic for as long as possible, as i didnt want to torture myself between updates. i loved your two other major fics, Power of Emotion and Curse of the Damned, and this one seems to be coming along very well also.

your previous author's note mentioned that there will be 25 chapters? compared to your other two fics i mentioned, it's a bit shorter chapter-wise...i couldnt help but feel sad, as your fiction is always fun to read...lol...

will the actual length of the fics be around the same?

thanks for writing!!

You don't know how glad I am that you have injected some angst and inner-turmoil back into Harry! His musings about a certain female Weasley stirring about with that old familiar "savior complex" makes me want to yell for joy. Seriously. I think the details like the cat flap and "I solemnly swear that I'm up to some kick- good" really help push this story up toward the top of the mountain of fanfics. It was finally nice to see the trio unite against the Dursleys and I was loving every single Ron-loyalty moment. Hermione's blind attempts at a Harry-Dursley reconciliation just screamed S.P.E.W.; you write bossy!Hermione very well. I hope that Ron's words, "I don't think you'll realize it even after he's gone!" don't follow canon-Ron's trend of saying things that eventually come to fruition. *shivers*

Ohh Absolutely wonderful. I got tears in my eyes when I read thepart with the cupboard. Bloody Dursleys. I hate them. I LOATHE them. Gah. I almost started bawling when I read the part about the birthday cake drawing. Because I'm absolutely 100% sure that that's something that really hapenned in canon, just not something Jo straight out said.

And yes you're right. Ginny does understand Harry, which is why she didn't cry for him at the funeral. At least not that we know of. However, she didn't know Ron and Hermione where going with Harry. We'll see though. Still, there's Bill and Fleur's wedding. Honestly though, I don't know what to expect, there are so many things Jo left unsaid, that well, there are just so many possibilities. However, Ginny is understanding. But she can still be sour about the fact that on and Hermione can join Harry.

Anyways, absolutely brilliant chapter.

I knew I wouldn't be disappointed at all!! I really like your characterization. You just capture them very realistically. I also like what you're doing with H & G. JKR will hopefully address the same issues in book 7.

Interesting thoughts about Dudley. I wouldn't have come up with that scenario - gives one something on which to ponder!! Certainly will put the Dursleys in a bind!

The humor you used makes me laugh out loud while I'm reading, which can cause some interesting looks coming my way from my family. I know the angst will be a coming, too - but that just makes the journey richer. I'm really looking forward to your tale. It will be savored by moi!!!

I'm glad to see you start a new story. While you're author's notes indicate that many of your readers seem to be worried about Ginny's absence so far in the story, I think the truly worrying thing is Dudley. I don't like to think about what Harry might have to do if Dudley starts to explore whatever magical potential that he might have. I don't think Dudley has the intellegence required to become Harry's ally.

Anyway, the story appears well constructed and well edited. I've noticed from your other stories that your quality of writing degrades slightly as you try to meet weekly deadlines. However, you appear to be improving as a writer and I'm sure your well up to writing at a pace quick enough to keep your fans from sitting around and tapping their feet. Thanks for writing. Good luck, and may the words flow.

Thanks. I agree, Dudley isn't intelligent enough to become Harry's ally, but I also don't think he has the intelligence to become a significant threat, either. We haven't seen the last of Dudley, but for now, our trio is off to the Burrow.

One of the funniest chapters you've ever written, despite the tension and anger betweem the trio and the lovely Dursleys. I loved 's transfiguration of 's room and her repeated, stubborn efforts to befriend Petunia and the wonderful teasing and gave after the Levicorpus!

I was glad to note that I wasn't the only one to miss , shared it as well! Very much looking forward to our favourite female redhead to introduce her self in person in the story!

As much as I loved Curse of the Damned and Power of Emotion, this seems lighter of heart, less angst and more light-sided humour - it's early days yet to say for sure whether this is the new trend for sure - and it works brilliantly for me! Your writing certainly has matured and gotten better, not that it was bad before!

Thanks for writing and sharing this!

Aww, thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had fun with the trio at the Dursleys. I'm happy you like the tone, but if you know me, you know I do adore the angst, so there IS some of it coming. In fact - chapter 6 is a doozy, but now you're forewarned

Never fear, Ms. Weasley makes her appearance in the next chapter.

I had two choices of entertainment last night after I put my son to bed: one, watch my copy of the new GoF DVD, and two, read your latest chapter. I'm happy to say that your chapter won over the DVD and I'm really glad I made that choice. I don't know which scene I liked the best because Ron dominates my two favorites. I really love how he defended Harry to Dudley and his lecture of Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia reminded me so much of Arthur and Molly combined: when it comes to loyalty, Ron's got it in spades and he knows when to show and use that loyalty. Harry is certainly lucky to have a friends like Ron and Hermione. And speaking of Hermione...I actually felt sorry for her failed attempts at getting the Dursleys to accept Harry, although I really loved what she did to his room. I had to stifle an out-right guffaw when she turned Harry upside-down in the last scene. I share Harry's and Ron's delight that she actually used one of the spells from Harry's potions book! Hee, hee, hee! Finally, the fact that Dudley is a wizard and sounds very much like the teenaged Tom Riddle is the scariest part of this story so far for it seems you're setting him up to be a very sharp thorn in Harry's side for the rest of this fic.

Please post again soon. I'm looking forward to seeing what the trio's next big adventure will turn out to be. Wonderful chapter, terrific story...

Great chapter.

I am a bit surprised with Dudley wanting to be a wizard. I think you are right, though. I can see him becoming a Dark Lord (sounds like a fascinating story, that).

Great job, and I can't wait to read the next installment.

By the way, KEDme, if you are reading this, please finish your story!

Very well written. Dudley's development is still sending chills up and down my spine. He could become really scary if the Death Eaters get hold of him. Poor Harry - having to watch his two best friends make goo-goo eyes at each other while he wants to snuggle with Ginny. Life's not fair! And let's not forget Hermione with her newest quest to befriend Harry's Aunt Petunia. If it wasn't so pathetic, I'd be laughing, but it is ever so Hermione. The last bit of the chapter was excellent - a beautiful contrast between Harry's family and life in the wizarding world versus his family and life in the muggle world. It's a wonder the boy turned out as well as he did! Very nicely done! Thanks for sharing!

Once again Melindeo, another great chapter, loved the 'Ron Rant' (tm) at the end, a great indicator that despite being impetuous, he IS growing up!

Much to Hermione's delight I suspect.

And as for Ginny, I'm not worried, having read your stuff from the early days on SIYE, I know she will enter the fray at the perfect time for us (and Harry).

Yay! Great chapter. I especially enjoyed the interaction between Harry and Dudley and Ron and Hermione's response to this. Finally I am reading a fic that has Ron and Hermione at the Dursleys' and also one that remains in character.
I was squealing in delight (bit like Dudley) at the final showdown with Petunia and Vernon.
I am interested in the comment that Dudley made about Harry's neck being his weak spot....does this have any significance?

Excellent -- I can well understand Ron's reaction upon hearing Harry refer to "The Things That Can't Be Named"." Had I been drinking something at the time, I'd probably have done the same thing. :-)

I'm especially enjoying the characterizations & interactions of the characters.

And I get the distinct impression that when Ginny makes her presence known, "subtle" is not likely to be an accurate description of the event -- especially given the extent to which Harry is obsessing over her.

I also get a nagging impression that we haven't heard the last of Dudley's recently-realized abilities. :-}

WOW! I am EXTREMELY glad you're writing this story, Melindaleo! I'm a big fan of your work. LOL

Man, Ron and Hermione at the Dursleys?! What a dream come true...lol

I kind of hoped they could've at least performed SOME magic on Vernon or Petunia, but I am glad that their horrible treatment of Harry was acknowledged.

I'm just going to quote some of the parts I enjoyed.

“Mmmm, this is brilliant. I love you, Hermione.”

HAHA! Oh Ron's just too cute. And I could totally picture him saying that while eating the TWO pastries. lol

He’d felt so much stronger when she’d been by his side.

YES YES!

I was so relieved when you said that Ginny will appear soon. I agree that it's probably not going to happen in canon, but I truly believe that Ginny is something- someone GOOD for Harry. Those two put a huge grin on my face.

Before Harry even had the chance to ask Ron if he’d gone mad, the food Ron had requested slid from the flap on the door. Harry blinked in surprise.

HAHAHA!! MAN OH MAN! Why didn't I think of that? That was a good one!

Actually, the kick- part had been Ron’s idea, and the two boys had chuckled over it for so long that Hermione had left the room in a huff.

Aside from laughing at the "kick-" part, I really liked that small bit about the boys laughing about it for so long that Hermione left in a huff. I mean, aside from all the crazy things they've done and WILL do, they're really just normal teens and I think you've captured that in this moment wonderfully.

It reminded me of Hermione rolling on the floor in laughter when Ginny was talking about Ron's tattoo of a pygmy puff in HBP. They're all just normal.

"I can't be a wizard. I'm Harry- just Harry."

LOL! Ok I'm going a little crazy.

“That’s what families are supposed do. You pathetic wankers don’t even know Harry. How could you? You don’t even know the kind of person you’ve had here all the time and the lengths he would go for you if you asked. The sad part is that I don’t think you’ll realize it even after he’s gone.”

Oh gosh. Ron's fierce loyalty here really brought tears to my eyes. The "pathetic wankers" part was clearly Ron, but my favorite part of his rant was when he said that the Dursleys didn't even know the LENGTHS Harry would go to for them if they have ever asked. First of all, it's true, which makes me want to hug Harry to death. lol

And secondly, Ron's just too great. HAHA! I hope it they were guilt tricked, even if just a little...

Harry recognized his childlike writing on the walls. Just scribbles, really, beside his name. He’d once confiscated some of Dudley’s crayons and made a habit of nicking more whenever he’d got the chance. He could see a crude drawing of a birthday cake with candles drawn in different colors with gradual improvement in the drawing. He remembered adding to it each year on his birthday.

To say that Hermione exploded would be an understatement. She whirled toward the Dursleys, whipping Harry in the face with her hair as she spun around.

“How could you?” she screeched, baring her teeth like a wild animal.

The description of the cupboard was just so heart breaking. It really astounds me that Harry has become the person he is, despite how he was treated. The cobwebs and the shotty bed and broken toys didn't surprise me, but that part about the crude drawings- ESPECIALLY the candles that were added onto the birthday cake each year...GOOD GRIEF, GIRL...that was just unbearable. It was SUCH a strong image. I mean, I could picture a really tiny, skinny little black haired boy adding a red candle to his pathetic cake while locked up in that cupboard. Man oh man.

And then of course, I added Hermione's part into the quote because, well, you know...she's always advocating for SOMEONE'S rights or is just trying to spread the peace, (lol) so when she gets angry, it's BIG.

*sigh* I only wish Harry didn't interrupt the levicorpus..lol

Well, that was just awesome!

I can't wait for your next update! (and for some action!!!! LOL)

LOL, thanks! I love when people tell me which parts they enjoyed. I like to see the teenage side of them, actually - I think it makes them and what they're up against more real. They're fun characters, and I had a ball with them in this chapter.

Harry's upbringing is ALWAYS a sticking point with me. I despise the Dursleys for it, and I can never help myself from pointing out how horrible they were. I'm glad it worked.

I had to be at an icky meeting tonight. It was so nice to be able to come home and read the 2nd chapter of your story. It made up for the meeting. Loved the thoughts and feelings of Harry about Ginny at the beginning of the story. You do such a great job at conveying what I also believe will be the turmoil in Harry's mind in the 7th book. I liked how you gave Harry had brief insight that he was stronger when he was around Ginny. *sigh* I have always enjoyed your feelings about the Dursley's and how they treated Harry. I was hoping that Hermione and Ron would be able to curse them. Darn! Of course, I was happy when you killed them off in CotD! I have to also tell you how much I loved how you convey Ron; you show his loyalty and bravery. Not all fanfics do that. Well, your story has made me forget my rotten meeting, so thank you!

Aww, thanks. Glad I could help you get over you meeting, lol. I agree with you on Ron - I don't think his good points are shown nearly as often as his bad. I love Ron.

This was fabulous! What interaction! I just loved, absoultely loved Ron telling off Uncle Vernon! And Hermione too. The Dursleys do make me angry when I read the books and you having them told off made me feel good. That was frightening how Dudley seemed like Voldemort - wanting to use his magic just for selfish reasons. Looking forward to more!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Dudley kind of took over this chapter on his own, but I liked the end result. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Wonderful...Love Hermione angry enough to use a HBP spell. Dudley gave me the willies.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I thought Dudley got kind of creepy, as well. Hermione was fun to write in this chapter.

Very glad to have you back - nice row with the Dursley's at the end! I thought the Dudley imagination was going in a great direction as well - I'd love to see that continue.

Thanks! You've seen the last of Dudley - for awhile anyway. Next chapter they journey to the Burrow.
