After my disappointment with "The Deathly Hollows" I searched for Fan-fics. Wonderful story, better than the original HP7 in my opinion! Meanwhile I love Draco - he's not really as evil as he seems, I guess . My daughter. too, will love it....

Hmm. I have a lot of trouble imagining any circumstances in which Harry would let Malfoy into his head. He wasn't happy about Snape, and he was a Hogwarts proffesor and Order member. Draco's probably even lower on his popularity list, he's got no real reason to trust him (after all "I made Harry Potter go insane" would probably be a ticket back into Voldy's good graces), and Harry can't be happy about anyone working on this one.

hm...it's an interseting twist to have draco have to teach harry occlumens but at the same time, I cannot believe that draco is better at it then any other member of the order.

very interesting story thus far

Heh, thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying the story. As far as it goes with Draco and Occlumency - I'm afraid you'll have to take that one up with JKR . In OotP, we were told Snape was the only Order member who could teach Harry, and in HBP we were told that Malfoy could keep Snape out of his mind after Bellatrix taught him Occlumency.

“You’re in love with my sister.”
Beautiful line.

I don't like Malfoy or his mother in Harry's head, I hope that works out for good. I still worry about too much information being leaked to too many people. Hope that all pans out well, too.

I was supposed to be preparing for my big first day at work by getting an early night and instead sacrificed hours of sleep to get this far! This story is awesome, stumbled across it completely unintentionally and am loving it! The story is developing believably, i like what you've done and your theories on horcruxs and the last book etc.
The highest praise i could possibly give you is that if i picked this off the shelves in waterstones with JKRs name on the front i wouldn't be suprised!
I'm going to go back and continue reading and possibly miss work tomorrow - lol!

Well that all went better than I thought it would. I'm worried about Malfoy getting into Harry's head. He will learn things if Harry doesn't pick up quickly enough. All in all, I still think Harry got the short end of the stick with the Order and they should be happy they got him to agree to everything but one of their requests.

Ooo Draco Malfoy teaching Occlumens.. wouldn't you need to know some legillimency as well to teach someone though? I might be crazy, but I wondered. As I've said 11 times before this is another great chapter. Not much action of course, but I like how things are going so far.

This otta be good. Malfoy teaching Harry to block his mind. The really worry I am having about that,is if Malfoy sees some of the images of when Harry and Dumbledore went after a horcrux and also when Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny went after one and also distroyed it. That is very bad infomation to share. Very bad.

Continues to be an outstanding and gripping story. Everbody in character particularly the main ones. Thoroughly enjoyable. I thought you handled the way the Weasley family members (and the key Order members) viewed the quartet's adventures pretty well. One of the on-going fics I look forward to seeing updated the most.

Melinda, I can’t believe you’d let that slimy group of Slytherins get a hold of Harry’s head! I don’t know what’s worse; Bill’s treatment of Harry at the beginning or the Order insisting that he take Occlumency lessons from Draco and Narcissa Malfoy! Oh, you’ve got my hackles up and my teeth bared against the evils Harry is having to acquiesce to. *gets up, stomps around and punches all the sofa cushions into submission*

I can tell you’ve put a little of yourself into Molly’s tirade. No mother could help but put a little of herself into this situation since we all know the fear and worry of “misplacing” a child at the zoo or in a department store. Therefore, for me, it was extremely easy to identify with Molly and Arthur’s parental worry.

Finally, Harry’s trio of supporters. First, I really admire Ginny and the fact that she chose what was right by Harry, Ron and Hermione over what was easy. She stuck to her guns and didn’t budge an inch when faced with her parents’ wrath and disappointment. She also warmed my heart when she stood up to the Order at the meeting, showing just how loyal to Harry she truly is. Second, I hope Hermione doesn’t take the loss of her hair too seriously and that she reflects Ron’s opinion that she’d rather be alive and bald than dead and hairy. As for Ron, I was smirking through the whole scene in the infirmary where he confronts Harry about being in love with Ginny. His glee was palpable and really added the light-hearted moment this chapter needed.

Bring on the next chapter. It can’t come soon enough!

Wow, what a great review. Thanks, Arnel. I'm thrilled to see the kind of response this chapter has created. I love it.

You're right - there is some of me in Molly. There always is, lol. That heart dropping, sick panicky feeling is hard to take for a few moments, never mind for nearly a month! Shudder.

More on Hermione next chapter. Thanks much.

"What had he just done?"

What has harry done indeed!

Bill was not the Bill Weasley i like in this chapter. *pouts* Bill likes Harry, doesn't he? I know he said he's do the same to Ron, but ... it's Harry! And poor Mrs Weasley. I really do feel sorry for her with all the kids running off, and her worst fear is her family dying. It must be hard.

Nice touch with Malfoy there. I really hope that won't come back to bite them in the bum, letting him get into Harry's head .... we shall see ...

Ginny's trashy romance novel was a touch of genius - Harry is SUCH a boy, isn't he?

Great chapter as always, and i can't wait for the next one - as always!

Thanks!

Bill is definitely feeling the strain - but he's a Weasley. He DOES like Harry, he just doesn't like what Harry just did. I'm glad you liked the romance novel, lol Harry is such a boy! And worries over his own kissing technique would be a big concern....despite angry dragons and angry Order members.

Well done! Ginny's definitely growing up, and the process (of Ginny growing up) isn't easy for anyone involved. OF course, she's not the only one doing that.... But it's definitely good to see her "fledge" a bit.

There was something just *slightly* incongruous about Mad-Eye Moody -- the guy with the peg-leg -- supporting Ron. :-}

Draco seems to need a hobby. :-} Other than baiting his classmates, that is....

Bill was definitely showing signs of big-brotherhood -- as well as stress from being unable to work. Fleur seems to handle him well; that's a Good Thing. :-)

Good Order meeting & compromise. Moody's cool. :-) I think Harry might have done well to push for emergency Portkeys, though. :-}

I confess I'm pretty much sharing Harry's perspective about taking Occlumancy lessons from Malfoy. Yes, I recognize the need for the ability, but Malfoy ??!?

Great story! :-)
Sunday 11th June 2006 06:13The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Hee. I'm SO loving everyone's reactions to Malfoy, lol. If we all knew what Occlumency was before OotP, I think everyone would have been doubtful about Snape doing it, too. Of course, it DID prove disasterous - but it was still done

Have a little faith in Harry...and I honestly don't think Draco has ever been a true match for him.

Your story continues to be excellent.

Malfoy? From what I can understand by reading Canon, Ron will kill Malfoy if he feels that something is wrong. I don't know. I think Harry is taking a risk that is too big. And it is not only because of the way Harry feels about Draco.

Harry knows Ron better than anyone. And Harry knows what Ron will do if something goes wrong.

I don't know. This is a too much risky situation. Even for Harry that tends to live on the edge 80% of the time.

You are really a talented writer!

May the Gods of Inspiration always protect you!

Even while standing up to the Order, and especially her mum, Ginny longed for a hug. Please tell me that Ginny has made up with her parents. She's always been so close to her family and they really need each other.

Three Order members (Remus, Sirius, and Dumbledore) and Harry have always said Voldemort's name, so you'd think that the others would be more used to hearing it than they acted like in this chapter. I thought the Order's reactions seemed to be a bit much in this respect, but it was a good lead-in for Harry's rebuke to them (which they deserved!).

“I don’t believe this,” Ron shouted, unable to contain himself any further. “First you’re all over Harry about being too young and not trusting you with the answers to things he absolutely can’t tell you, and now you want to let Malfoy and his mother have free reign inside his head? Have you all gone mad?”

Ron's outburst was spot on! How can anyone in the Order trust Malfoy any farther than they could throw him?! And Harry's acquiescence is just as crazy as the Order's request! "...something inside him told him Occlumency wasn’t the answer" Why isn't Harry trusting his instincts on this one? He could have said that he'd think it over rather than accepting!
Saturday 10th June 2006 16:31The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Don't worry. The Weasleys blow up quickly, but they cool down just as fast, and they really do love each other. You'd think the Order would have learned, but remember, the Order was with DD the first time, too, and McGonagall made a comment in PS/SS that only DD would dare to say it.

As for Harry's acceptance - he does know what he's doing, and the Order truly believes they can control Malfoy, and that blocking Voldemort is the bigger threat.

The Seventh Horcrux
Ok, really. The Order members should get a grip. I know Voldemort is supposed to be scary and all, but they should learn not to fear the name! For goodness sake, two witches and a wizard who they all think are too young have conquered their fear. How does the Order expect to fight Voldemort and his Death Eaters when its members can't hear the name without cringing?

And their suggestion of Draco Malfoy going inside Harry's mind? Are they absolutely insane? Wait, no...Harry's even more deranged for even considering it. Honestly, Malfoy won't hesitate to reveal whatever it was he saw in Harry's head if it will save his skin.

But all in all, it was another great chapter. I totally expected Mrs. Weasley's reaction to them. I really wanted to throttle Bill though, when he dumped Harry onto the floor like he was a bag of garbage. I mean, the man's injured!!

Sigh...I love your work. I wouldn't be worked up like this if I didn't.

Keep it up! I can't wait for the next update!
Saturday 10th June 2006 16:12The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Well, honestly - the entire wizarding culture seems to react that way to Voldemort's name. you'd think more of them would have learned to overcome that fear, but Professor McGonagall even acknowledged that only DD did in PS, right?

As for Harry - yes, he's making a compromise, but he said nothing about letting Malfoy see anything of any relevance. Trust him...and me

Hee, I'm glad you're enjoying it. I love hearing this response from all of you. It makes me giddy, lol.

I haven't been as faithful a reviewer as I would like to be (I believe this will be my first one for one of your fics), but I thought that, no matter if the thought comes late, the thought still counts.

First of all, let me compliment you on your ability to write a good summary, something that I think is greatly underestimated in this world. When you've only got about two and a half seconds to grab someone's attention and convince them to read your fic, you have to do it well -- and you did, capturing and piquing the attention of an old hat like me, even convincing me to drop my usual policy of not reading "Seventh Year" (although that label is no longer entirely appropriate) fics.

I love the character development in this. The way you have Harry and Hermione and Ron and Ginny staying true to their basic essence, and then slowly evolving into not something different, but something more , indicates an understanding on your part that most authors sometimes lose... We don't ever lose the essence of what we are, but we do become more.

If you don't mind a bit of helpful criticism (which you are welcome to leave or ignore): Some of the dialogue in this particular chapter seemed a bit unnatural... Especially on the part of Molly Weasley. All authors interpet characters a bit differently, but in my understanding (which again, you are free to leave)... this coldness you describe would be a bit more... erratic. She is, at heart, a mother, and she has taken Harry into her home and heart. Remember how she treated Percy, the ultimate disappointment? With steady love. I don't think she'd do any less for the rest of her children. Including Harry.

One more thing that I can't find any fault with is your ability to show a story. You don't bog the reader down with unnecessary descriptions, but give enough to let the imagination soar, often using dialogue to illustrate a point that more inexperienced authors would have taken a paragraph to. So, kudos to you.

Overall, a very brilliant story. Next chapter (if you let me come back), I promise I'll leave a more section-specific critique.

Thanks for bearing with me!

Saturday 10th June 2006 16:09The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Of course it still counts! And I thank you for taking the time to do it. Did you like the summary? Oh, that's funny. I agonize more over them than the whole story. This one took forever! I hate writing summaries.

I'm glad you're enjoying the characterization. The coldness from Molly is coming more from her own frustration. She doens't know how to handle this situation. These are her babies, and she's feeling very unnecessary. It's a tough place for a mom to be. Plus, she was SO worried about them - and they didnt' even leave her a note. She'll come around - she just needs to see she still has a place.

Malfoy?! I agree with Ron, I wouldn't let him anywhere near Harry's mind... especially if he figures out what Harry's up to...

But he could gain better insight into Harry and perhaps there will be a chance for Malfoy redemption moments in the future, I guess.

Good chapter, all together. Just enough forward movement.

Finally, someone said it! I'm of course referring to Ginny's rant on the Order's ability to protect anyone, let alone 'the children.' If it was me, I'd like to tell them all a thing or two about protection ... the Order hasn't done anything to protect these young ones and be proactive in the fight against Voldemort ... seriously, step up and stop wincing at the name - makes you want to slap them all ... just shocked when they can pull off some great stunt, but can't defend themselves against a dementor or Wormtail ... I mean geez, even Potter could do that at 13 years ... these older wizards are pathetic. Keep up the great story and put these old people down. Haha, great story!
Saturday 10th June 2006 15:59The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Heh, thanks...I think! The Order DOES fully underestimate the kids - but I think a lot of us adults are guilty of that. We'll always want to protect our kids - whether we really can or not. It's hard to let go.

Ginny is our girl! Boy, she really had to stand up to a lot of people by herself at the beginning. Thank goodness Harry has her. The part where Harry reads the smutty romantic novel was a hoot! Loved the scene where Harry talks about the time he might have left and how he wants to spend it with Ginny. And Occlumency with Malfoy? Whoa, you surprised me with that one. It will be interesting reading about that session. Another great chapter. No one writes Ginny quite like you!

That last part gave me chills! I really liked the strength of character that Ginny showed in this chapter. Her thoughts seemed to go well beyond her passion for Harry, and that is a side of her we don't get to see enough. She is strong willed, but she has a wisdom that can't be overlooked. Also, I enjoyed reading about Harry's tenderness for her. It begins to show more than just his compassion, but his genuine ability to love, and why that is his power. I did not expect Bill to be quite as angry as he was, and it does leave me with something to think about. Moody was more surprising still though, with his almost warm greeting, and out-right protectiveness of the "children". Very well done. I really enjoyed this chapter.

Oh I loved this chapter! How the "children" stood up for themselves was great! I loved Ron taking up for Ginny like that - YAY RON!

I didn't care for Bill dropping Harry to the floor and I'm glad Mrs. Weasley was upset about that too.

And when Harry discovered what Ginny was reading - funny! And taking Snot to her was sweet. I loved how Harry got flustered when Ron said "you're in love with my sister"! Cute!

Look forward to the next chapter! Have a great weekend!
Saturday 10th June 2006 15:37The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Yay Ron, indeed! There's more going on with Bill than meets the eye, and they're all under a lot of strain. Picture how it must have felt to wake up and find the four "children" they were all suppose to be watching - gone. Poof! No note, no nothing, and they were gone for quite some time. Those left behind had nothing to do but worry, and worry always puts everyone's nerves on edge.

Wow. I love this story just as much as the rest of 'em. The only thing wrong with it is the fact that I have to wait for it to be updated. xD There's action and adventure and humor and emotion. Garsh. Not sure what else to say. 'Cept that you know how to make the reader get involved in the story. I felt like strangling a few people in this chapter. n.n Wish Dumbledore was here to talk some sense into them, because they don't take Harry seriously a lot of the time. *sigh* I almost with they COULD tell them everything just to rub it in their faces that they've already done so much. Garg. Can't wait for the next chapter, and fantastical job with everything so far.

MALFOY!!!????????? In Harry's head????!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!! You're really messing with my own head with that one. Talk about me being on edge again! Great one.

Hermione's definetly going to struggle with the hair - only because she's not expecting it to be a major issue. I'll be interested in how she handle's it.

Nice job about poor Ginny having to handle her parents & Bill. I'm curious to hear more about it in flashback conversations. She really would have to stand her ground - it won't be easy on her. I'm glad to hear Harry say what he did about time being valuable & not endless to them. Again - I'll be curious about the fallout from the conversations with the order & the Weasleys. It's certainly stuff that they don't want to hear.

Really looking forward to the next chapter!! I hope your muse comes back quickly. This is such a great story!! I"m loving it so much. I really, REALLY look forward to your updates!! Thanks for sharing your creative mind!!

What!?!?!? No freaking way. I can't believe Harry would even consider it. Gah.

Besides that little outburst, great job! Your story is very engaging and is one of those rare few that stands the chance of confusing my memory of canon rather badly. Wonderful story!

The Order is so terribly annoying. I hope we don't have to see too very much of them in book 7.

I woke this morning thinking "wouldn't it be great if Melinda had done an update" and here it is! Yay.
Go Ginny - she really gave it to them didn't she? And Poppy taking charge to keep Ginny there with Harry, Ron and Hermione was a smart move. Remus wanted to but seemed a little unsure of the wrath of Mrs Weasley.
When Harry woke up, I love how he became distracted with Ginny and the book and the self doubt about his romantic capabilities. LOL.
Let’s be realistic, all right? There are no guarantees – for any of us. That’s been made painfully clear. This little bit of time might be all I have go give her, so I’m going to take it while it’s there,” Harry said, amazed by his own cheek.

Don't hold back there Harry. Nothing like telling it how it is, but I laugh when he doesn't actually deny that nothing happened and doesn't say that nothing will in the future.
I get the feeling that Harry having to do some Occlumency lessons will be a way to force him to stay safely at Grimmauld Place, but to put Malfoy into the equation! I can sense Harry's reluctance - it will be like Snape all over again, and I do not imagine they will be able to call a truce with each other long enough for it to be effective.
Brilliant chapter Melinda - you write action and suspense so well. This chapter flowed really well. As always, looking forward to the next update!

Hey! Glad I could oblige. Heh, Harry was full of cheek during that confrontation, wasnt' he? And you can't blame the boy for hoping Let's hope Harry did learn a few tricks from Snape in order to not let Malfoy walk all over him.

Oh my goodness! Malfoy teaching Harry Occlumency! I can't believe anyone suggested it and that Harry agreed to it. It does give Malfoy something to do. I still don't like him.

Did Ginny ever get on the others about being the sole uninjured party when they retrieved the Horcrux? I would have loved to hear that conversation.

I'm glad Hermione is going to be alright, although, I don't know what I'd do if I lost my hair. It has to be hard for her. No more long bushy hair. Maybe she could find a spell to get rid of the frizz and turn the event to her advantage. Just like she did with her teeth.

Another great chapter! I really enjoy your writing style. All your stories are so well thought out. Keep up the fantastic work!

Thanks so much, I'm glad you're enjoying it. More on Hermione's hair loss next chapter, and you'll see how she's handling it.

Oh wonderful. I get so excited when this fic is updated. It's positively brilliant. I loved this; "What was it about parents that could make you feel so small and unsure, no matter how strongly you believed in what you were doing?" It's so true!

i would like to agree with rons statement- they ARE all barking for wanting harry to occlumency with malfoy- and i very much look forward to reading the results!

*contented sigh* well, that was definitely what i was looking for in this chapter and i am so looking forward to the next horcrux hunt- you've got a job ahead of you making it as exciting as the dragon!!

*raises glass* to the next chapter!

Absolutely loved the Order meeting, it was very well written (as is all your stuff lol), and I think you have everyone's reactions spot on.

Why do I get the feeling Harry just made a grave mistake? Another excellent chapter! It almost felt like it was the OotP all over again with all the trouble Harry and Ginny were in. And that's probably the good news... The bad news is that they've still got to get the rest of the Horcruxes and then, what's Harry going to do? (Especially as he is a Horcrux.) You're doing a great job of keeping us on the edge! Of course, now that I'm thinking about it, what if Voldemort and Draco happened to both be in Harry's head at the same time? The mind reels. Thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to more!

Heh, thanks! For a kid who keeps his distance from everyone, he certainly has a lot of people mucking around in his head, doesn't he? More to come with Malfoy next chapter.

No way....Malfoy in Harry's head!! This doesn't seem really good, maybe they're just going to use him and they really are there on Voldemort's orders!!! Oh well whatever happens, it's going great so far. Can't wait till next Friday to read the next chapter!!

Thanks! It doesn't seem like a very good idea, does it? Again, the Order is underestimating all the "children".

Woohoo - Gimme a dragon ANYTIME rather than having to go face to face with Mrs Weasley!!!

Hi Melindaleo -my timing is better this time, spot on actually, so quick feedback this time 'round.

Obviously this chapter was more slow-paced then the previous one (thank Merlin, I don't think I could have survived another dragon) UNTIL you loosened Molly on the poor shildren. *shudder* Mother Dragon is a better name I think for Molly.

Excellent characterisation in this chapter, especially the Teddy-bear scene was heartwarming (and funny) and showed very well the difference between Ron and Harry.

I also deeply dig the line:

Harry smiled, looking down into Ginny’s warm brown eyes. “Well, that’s the plan. If we manage it, anything that comes after is the whipped cream.”

Not sure about having Malfoy dig around in Harry's mind, BAD advice from Shacklebolt and Lupin I think on this one - why give him the info he requires to be able to return o the dark lord and survive? Oh, you're evil you are with your plot

A lovely chapter, a brilliant story and you tell it so wonderfully.

Thanks for writing and sharing this with us!

Heh. I'd take a dragon over Molly when she's angry, as well, lol. I don't mind quick or late feedbacks, Spark - I just like to get them

It would be bad for Draco to find out about the Horcruxes...but I think Harry's aware of that. He's survived for years with the Dursleys - he knows to only concede over what he can afford to lose - and make alternate arrangements for the rest of it .
