The Eyes Have It
Do you re-read your own stories sometimes?

After DH fandom has lost some of its attraction for me, plus there is just too much work to be done. But last week I decided to have a look at this site again and randomly started reading "Moods". I also couldn't resist all those lovely reviews, and yours brought me here.

I actually managed to forget about DH for some time and got lost in your story. To be honest I found myself glued to the screen at some point while I should have been hurrying out of the house insted.

It has been a thoroughly enjoyable read - again. And funnily enough, the passage I quoted in my review seven years ago, cracked me up once more.

Thank you for so much fun. I hope you're well.

I am not sure if I read this before but I found the story recommended this week and read it all over again and just wanted to say how much I LOVED it. Getting both sides of the impending love, and the misunderstandings and unsure feelings of it all. I had forgotten how much I loved Harry/Ginny stories, and this has reignited that feeling in me. Fantastic work. (Also the bit about the drink and the Weasley Twins aftermath, HILARIOUS) And the suit of armor!

That was bloody brilliant!!! It was such a fascinating story with so many layers. You managed to take the basic story line of Harry and Ginny's romance from HBP and turn it into a masterpiece! The memory-loss potions were wonderful, and those dreams! Oh my... hahaha I thoroughly enjoyed that, and I love the twist that you've taken on the story. Nice work!

This is definitely a sigh-worthy story. Each time I read this (and it has been many a time), I always read the last word with a sigh, wishing that those happy days with Harry and Ginny never ended. You have written a wonderful story, and I hope to read so much more from you!

“I’ll give you ten to one odds he snogged her,” Fred chuckled, eyes flashing over to his brother who shut the door behind them.

“Oh, absolutely.”

Oh, that made me laugh so much! I got a bit confused in the middle there, but I think I worked it all out. Wow, that was fun!

What a wonderful, romantic, funny version of how Harry and Ginny came together. I loved the Absent-inthe and the mistletoe.

I'm also enjoying Coven of Echoes very much.

I've been wondering about your pen name, and now thanks to your author's notes, I have my answer. I too am a fan of Dorothy L. Sayers, and Gaudy Night is one of my favorites.

Hello, h!

I was scanning through your other pieces and found one I hadn't read before. I love this! What a fantastic idea to imagine what the details leading up to their first kiss might have been. You've written every character so convincingly, I especially loved your Harry in this. And your subtle comedic timing mixed with great drama and sexy romantic details is spot on , as always. I just love reading your work!

Happy New Year!

What an amazing story. I'm so glad that I found it. I can't believe I've never seen it before. The whole thing is spectacular. Seriously this is one of the top five best Harry and Ginny stories I have ever read. Outstanding. I feel like I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed it. The whole characterization was brilliant. Harry and Ginny's amourous relationship slowly developing. The twins' inventions. Outstanding. The Quidditch Match, Hermione and Ron's interaction. The masquerade ball, Christmas. Everything was beyond spectacular. I loved it. Utterly fantastic!

Hello SillieGillie!!!

You are a dear for writing such a lovely review -- thank you. This was my first piece of FF and I didn't know how it would be received. I'm so thrilled you enjoyed it -- it was a hoot to write.

Okay, I'm still kind of shell-shocked and not sure what to say. That was one of the best... It was just so PERFECT, I don't know. Bleh, I'm all tongue-tied. I hate reviews because I babble too much but this definitely deserves some sort of acknowledgement. ^^ I just wanted to say that this entire story is amazing. It was intense, and funny and it fit in with canon- that part of it, where it was supposed to be behind the scenes of HBP was very original. It was more than a missing moment. But anyways. Yeah. Still kinda speechless, but I just wanted to say that you did a brilliant job and I'm looking forward to more stories in the future. AMAAAZING!! I love this site. n.n

Dear Basketkiwi,
Thank you so very much for that marvelous review. I'm like you, speechless that someone who normally doesn't like to review, took the time to review and had such glowing praise. I'm thrilled you liked the story - it always does a writer good to know they've made someone happy.
I'll be posting a longer FF in August - please stop by and let me know what you think. Again, thanks for your kindness. I love readers like you!!

The Eyes Have It
Dream-sluicing, huh? Quite creative. Well, at least Harry can't help but know that "fancies" him -- after all:
the ability to sluice only manifests itself once the desire reaches a certain, ahem, critical level in both parties
-- and that they had
snogged the the bejesus out of
each other that night.
Unfortunately, in his mad rush to find Remus, he found a bathroom. And Draco. And the worst detention of his life
: nicely written, but a bit cliche. But the quidditch game was very good (yeah, Ginny , you give it to Cho) -- almost makes the cliche worth it.
And a nice ending -- an inclusio with the stupid suit of armor
Wednesday 26th July 2006 13:22The Eyes Have It (Author Response)
Oh, you wounded me!! I loathe cliche. But you have to stick to cannon or they slap your hands with a ruler. I'll be starting to post a much longer piece of FF in August. Please review and keep me honest. I'll swear to avoid cliche at all costs - but I can't keep away from romance which in itself if rife with cliche.

Glad you liked the piece though.

And thanks for reviewing!!

The Eyes Have It
Whoa, I'm really honoured. Thank you! Allow me to say, though, that there's another paragraph, I really like:

“Angelina? When has she ever been silent about anything? Walked right up to me the next day and punched me right in the face. Told me if I was going to chase her around her favorite fantasy all night, I could at least have brought a blanket. I just gaped at her for like five minutes until she grabbed me by the collar and snogged the living daylights out of me. I guess I asked her to marry me at some point, can’t remember. Quite a confusing day, in retrospect.”

So Hermione's potion did work, after all? - Anyway, great story, a clever combination of phantasy and canon, drawing from some of the best literary sources there are, and if that's your first attempt, I'll definitely be on the lookout for your second and third and ...

Now that’s what I call a Satisfying finish – that’s Satisfying with a capital ‘S’! What a masterful piece of work, just so funny and exciting and … hmm, yes … Satisfying (if you know what I mean ). Loved the twins to bits! Loved Harry and Ginny to bits and pieces! My favourite part of all was Harry trying to imagine how he would bring up his problem with the twins if he had the assistance of Felix! Ginny’s recollection of that night was cleverly done. Super match and – gosh – a finish that left me quite a bit more breathless than JKR’s version! Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Oh Ladybug, what a great reviewer you are! Thank you so much. I'm laughing reading it. I hope you like the next FF. I'll try to give as much ahem... satisfaction with that one..

As JKR said herself, "What is life without a little romance?"

The Eyes Have It
Hi, I just wanted to write once again to say how much I love this fic. It really is one of the best written and most original pieces that I have ever read. Absolutey fantastic, and I think that you hit Ginny and Harry right on....not to mention the twins! I loved the dream sequence soooo much, and Harry's convo with Gred and Forge. And the lead up until the kiss was perfect. And so, for giving me all of that, and giving me reason to be up reading until the wee hours of the night, I want to say thank you. Thank you for this beautiful, funny story. I can't wait to read your next one!
Tuesday 11th July 2006 00:20The Eyes Have It (Author Response)
Dear keira azul,

It is really dangerous to enter a review like that. I could electrocute myself for crying on my keyboard. You are the absolutely fantastic one. See, i send you a kiss

Thank you also for telling me specific things you like about the piece. It helps me write the characters in the future. Harry and Ginny are of course (if you couldn't tell) my favorite characters. Especially poor Ginny. The twins are just too easy to write. It's stopping laughing long enough to type them which is the real problem.

Yes, I liked the dream sequence too. Could see it in my head and wanted it to come out that way. Hope I got it right.

My favorite line, which no one has said anything about was the "Chosen One," line. I just imagined poor Harry staring down the face of a barrel there!

Please, please stay in touch. Remember, you can always find me at home at livejournal. I give updates as to the next FF there. I'll keep you specially in mind when I write it.

Thanks again,

Take care,

That's wicked awesome!! I love your idea for this story!! Very original. I love how flashes of what happened at Christmas kept hitting Ginny throughout the game. And her line to Cho was spectacular!!
“He doesn’t like me Cho,” she spluttered, Cho’s eyes delighted, “Not like you,” Then bashing her full weight against the Ravenclaw seeker, she shouted, eyes blazing in pride, “He loves me!”

Thank you for sharing this story with us!

Hello Connor Landon.

If I didn't know better, I'd guess you were from Maine. They love to use "wicked" to describe everything. Well I'll say your review was "wicked good," as they say there.

Very glad you liked Cho. I was a bit nervous that I vilified the poor girl, but I figured girls rarely play fair, and especially around Harry.

Thanks for taking the time to review - it means the world. I'll be posting a longer FF in August. Stop by and let me know how you like it. Till then,

One of my favorite lines from this chapter:
“Even Dementors love to suck ‘em. Soul suckers: Lick death right in the face!”
You have the twins spot-on!

For a first piece of fan fiction this is outstanding work! I loved it from beginning to end. I wish we could have had a little more explanation about the Absent-ithe, though, especially its effects on the twins.

Nice work on the Quidditch match. I love Ginny's intensity and her absolute drive to beat Cho and to prove herself Harry's woman. Then at the very end you brought back the suit of armor - perfect closure. I only wish I could see what happened next!

Excellent writing. I'm eager to read your next work.

Dear Felix,

I feel like Dorothy at the end of Wizard of Oz when she's looking at the scarecrow. I have to keep writing - I'll miss your reviews most of all.

Ah, that Absent-ithe. Perhaps a one-shot about the twins adventures concoting it and drinking it might pop up in the future - would you like that? I might be laughing too hard to type it.

Oh, I had to let the suit of armour have the last say. Plus I liked his point of view on H&G's ... ahem.... But see, I left the ending to you - you own it now - I just gave you the visual - your imagination is probably a whole lot better than mine.

You've been lovely and gracious with your feedback. Thank you.

Oh wow! That was just wonderful! I was really wondering where you would be going with the story in chapter 4 (still, absent-ithe is a very twin-like concoction), but this chapter explains it all. I especially like the last paragraph.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to your new fic in August!
Saturday 8th July 2006 00:22The Eyes Have It (Author Response)
Dear marielleaster,

First, thank you for reading and taking the time to review, and SECOND - thanks for letting me be your first review.

Yes, this little story was a bit dreamy - not quite knowing what was what - wanted to let the readers feel like they had drank a bit of Absent-tithe themselves.

I'd love to hear how you like the new fic. As you know, I can't take total credit for the last paragraph - Dorothy Sayers wrote hers infinitely better than I. But hey, if you're going to steal -- steal from the best.

Take care,

Sweet mother of Merlin, where do I begin?

“I’ll give you ten to one odds he snogged her,” Fred chuckled, eyes flashing over to his brother who shut the door behind them.

“Oh, absolutely.”

Saw right through Harry and his headaches, didn't they? God, you've just got to love the twins. They are my favouritest bad boys ever. Rawr.

And this sequence ....

Green wings? Flash. The light was so blinding she threw her hands to her face. Flash. The mistletoe on his cheek. Flash. We won’t remember. Flash. His lips warm, wanting, parting hers.

I absolutely adored that, I did I did! All leading up to that sweet near-quote from JKR and Harry pinning Ginny up against the wall of the castle with a green ribbon. It was just perfect, completely squeeable.

I've already got you on my author update list, and I really, really hope that I get an email soon telling me that something else has been written by you! Thanks so much for such a great fic! (especially one where Harry gets the girl, and Cho gets n-o-t-h-i-n-g but a beatdown :thumbsup
Saturday 8th July 2006 00:16The Eyes Have It (Author Response)
Hello harry ginnyphile,

How are you? Thanks so much for coming back and reviewing. And man, what a review.

I'm not sure where to start myself. Yes, the twins are almost too easy to write - the singularly best bit of comic relief out there. My favorite quote about them remains when Oliver Wood described them as "a pair of human bludgers."

Thanks for liking the "realization" sequence. I wanted the antidote to hit her slowly, and during the match to boot. And thanks for being accepting of Cho - didn't want to vilify the poor girl, but she was never meant for Harry - don't you agree?

Hopefully, I'll be posting a longer fic in August. I've kind of given a rough description of it on hwimsey.livejournal.com, if you're interested, and I'll give details about it as it solidifies.

Thanks again for the lovely review and taking the time to do it.

The Eyes Have It
Wow! I loved how you conveyed Harry's tumultuous thoughts at the beginning of the chapter. Even the short sentence structure in parts added to our understanding how changing his thoughts were at that time. Loved the conversation with the twins. And Percy's hand on their clock was a hoot! That is exactly what I can see the twins doing.

I do have a question, though. Was Lupin the reason that Harry didn't know that he had fallen asleep in Ginny's bed?

Loved the whole "battle" between Ginny and Cho during the Quidditch match. I loved how you tied the story line in HBP into your story and added that little bit to "The Kiss" scene. I loved the line of Harry's at the end about not wanting to dream about Ginny anymore. And the passion in the hallways afterwards? I can just imagine what that suit of armor had seen! *fans self* *satisfying sigh*
Friday 7th July 2006 20:41The Eyes Have It (Author Response)
Ahhhh... Always the smartest in the class. You even stump the writer.

I never said whether Harry fell asleep there or not, did I?? Hmmm. Could work both ways then, right? Lord woman, you and I need to write a story together.

O.K. not to sound like the old perfume commercial, but if you had to fan yourself in this one, you'll need a bucket of water for the longer FF I'm planning. Dragging out all those crumpled covered novels for that one. Still tastefully done, of course, Always a firm believer in less is more -- unless it involves ice cream or caffenine.

You remain -- the best.

I enjoyed how you brought the story full circle. That was a nice touch to it. I also enjoyed how it mirrored HBP. Maybe I didn't read carefully enough the first time, but I don't remember seeing the parallels in the other chapters. It was nicely done though and I like how you brought it all together. Cho got a little evil there at the end though didn't she. I don't know about that for her character, but it worked in the story.

So now I've read your first fanfic, I'll be looking forward to reading your second.
Friday 7th July 2006 12:59The Eyes Have It (Author Response)
Hello thisgrlrox,

Thanks for your feedback. You bring up some very good points.

In the first two chapters I wanted to establish the eye analogy, green/brown, seeing but not looking, etc. The third set in motion the Absent-tithe. Missing moments all, really, except for the very ending.

I wrestled a bit with Cho. While not a huge fan of this character I didn't want to vilify her. True, she comes across a bit harsh, but girls can be wretched to eachother, especially where love comes into play. And I imagine, especially when Harry comes into play.

I'm working on a longer fic that I hope to start posting in August. Let me know what you think. Thanks again for your great insight.

Cheers,

Hello Kokopelli,

Thanks for setting me straight. Actually I played fast and loose with canon here. I let the twins open up a new shop in Hogsmeade.

But I was wrong, wrong, wrong with Fortesques. Yikes. How'd that slip through???

I have enjoyed your writing no end. You have a lovely style which suites your characters perfectly. And your sense of mood if dead on.

Oh! How I adore The Twins. These lines made me snort with laughter. Bwa-ha-ha!

Thank God for the twins. Somehow, Harry believed, if they managed to keep the world laughing, maybe, just maybe, everyone might make their way to the other side, to a day when this place would be alive again, and happy people strolling down the sidewalks had the luxury to forget the past.

A small replica of the Weasley’s family clock hung near the cash register, all hands pointing towards “Mortal Peril,” with the exception of Percy’s which had been bewitched to read, “Head up .”

“Angelina? When has she ever been silent about anything? Walked right up to me the next day and punched me right in the face. Told me if I was going to chase her around her favorite fantasy all night, I could at least have brought a blanket.

Truth be known it was your penname which caught my eye, Sayers fan that I am as well. This was an absolutely brilliant fic. If you'd not said it was your first fan fic, I'd NEVER have known.

The intensity was fabulous. The romance was completely yummy. You 'fade to black' in a frustratingly perfect way at the end. Your first few chapters with the 'eye' theme weaving through them were incredibly eloquent (not that the last ones weren't, mind).
Friday 7th July 2006 13:29The Eyes Have It (Author Response)
Hello tante!

Thank you so much for reviewing. I'm thrilled you adore the twins - who doesn't really - they are the best comic relief anywhere. You are my favorite type of reader, can pick up on the subtext and themes - wonderful.

Oh fabulous - a Sayers fan!! I thought we were a vanishing species. She is one of my favorite writers - so smart, so sharp, and LPW - the singularly best character -- lord, I could listen to him talk piffle forever.

I'm writing a longer FF that I plan to start posting in August. Please let me know how you like that piece. Till then, I'll be in my livejournal world and as Harriet said in Strong Poison, "You will always find me at home."

A rather bittersweet ending, but I'd like to concentrate on the "sweet" part rather than the "bitter" parts of the chapter.

I like the fact that you've managed to incorporate canon into this story. I especially enjoyed Ginny giving Cho the old one-two, and Soul Suckers: what will those twins think of next?

Congratulations on completing this fab story. It's now time to ply you with outrageous but well-deserved flattering comments so you'll go and post your next story ASAP. So, my dear brilliant, intelligent and charming hwimsey, I hope we see your new story soon! (Were those terms flattering enough?)

I hope you liked this chapter, ending and beginnings are always difficult (sounds way too philosophical there!) Bittersweet is right on (I used the term for this very reason.) Their life together stiill has a lot of obstacles to come.

Cho was hard. I didn't want to vilify the poor girl, but when it comes to Harry, I can't imagine either one going easy on the other. I know I wouldn't.

So, in honor of you, I've put pen to paper (really fingers to keyboard) and am writing a post Hogwarts, post war piece (evil still abounds). I was inspired by Cursed - my favorite story on this site. I want to write the characters as adults. Ginny will be a Chief Resident Healer in another wizarding hospital in Edinburgh. I estimate the piece to run around 25 chs.
Should start posting in August (need a few chs. under my belt and my great beta needs to do her magic.)

Till then, I'll be in my livejournal giving updates, etc.

So, my dear brilliant, intelligent, charming and kind cwarbeck,

Take good care,
hwimsey
