That Which Is Constant
I loved several parts of this story, well all of it but these lines in particular.

"'There are a lot of things I love about Ron, but one of the best things is how he hugs me. He doesn't grab, he envelops. It's the most wonderful feeling in the world to be tucked up against him and held so lovingly."
I love that line. It's so sweet.

"Fleur clucks over him and says to all of us, "'e is lucky– my son – since love runs strong in dis family."
"
That is the BEST line to describe the Weasley's.

I'm glad you liked that line. I thought it really did sum up the Weasleys. Thanks for reading this old story - I'm glad it's still enjoyable.

'Ginny and Harry's happiness on their wedding day is a mere shadow of this moment.' - Now that is so true, only a parent can know that feeling. The most wonderful feeling that a man or woman can feel, is when they become a parent.

A really lovely story. so well written. As much as I love & stories, my favourites are with &

I love it. It is very Hermione, thinking about everything, not vocal, quietly using logic to solve her problems.

Its so sad that Aunt Muriel passed on - but it is for the best.
Its good to see how Ron and Hermione got together as I had previously read The New Zealand Chronicles and didnt know how they came back together
Excellent work as always

R/Hr have a tempetuous relationship - but they would never part once they were together. Right now I'm writing Ron's story set during the year H/G are away - I don't think I'll have it done before DH comes out, but hopefully I can start posting it later on the summer.

I liked the general theme of the story, but to my personal opinion the story wasn't fluid enough.

Another excellent story from you. I am in awe of your ability to mix comedy and sadness so that the story flows naturally between them.

I'm sure that Molly hopes that her grandson will be eminent, but is his birth imminent?

Ok, so I obviously needed to refresh my memory a bit. Thanks for reminding me - I won't worry about Hermione being lost in the unplottable Shangri-La. I look forward to reeing what she learned during her year off, though. Maybe a hint or two will surface during the NZ Chronicles? Lovely story, as always.

I'm glad you liked it! I was happy to have a challenge where I could kick start my next WIP. And it was cool to be story of the week - so it all worked out for the best. I'm starting an H/G story it's on my live journal or SIYE if you're interested. It probably won't be here for another month or so. Thanks for reading!

Oh, this was hilarious! Even Muriel's death was funny, what with Fred and George and Ron. I love stories told from Hermione's point of view; they're so interesting. But really, I love stories that make me laugh and cry. Yours only made me cry, but it was wonderful and I enjoyed it immensely. Very good.

The Weasleys are not a maudlin group - so it's always easy to find the humor. Writing from Hermione's POV is new to me, so I'm glad you enjoyed it.

very sweet story - a birth, a death, and a marriage...too bad about the competition! I really empathize with Hermione, the being ready and yet not knowing if you are. Her feelings are very real - especially for someone who's finally out of school and has to somehow manage to transform themselves into an adult against their will, like myself. Good job.

As always, WONDERFUL!!! It's such a shame you were removed from the contest- you would have won, hands down! Even though this piece strikes me as quite different in style from your other works, you still manage to really draw the reader in at every turn. WELL DONE!!!

There’s so much goodness in this story – you’ve managed to squeeze goodness into every single line! This is the sort of story that makes me want to write and that I wish I could have written. Just absolutely lovely. And I just have to mention that I always adore the way you write Fleur – I just love her.
Tuesday 1st August 2006 15:31That Which Is Constant (Author Response)
I think it must be all the Weasley goodness that makes you want to sink into this world. There's something about the Burrow . . . My favorite chapters in the series are in CoS when Harry first goes there and in GoF when they are eating dinner together in the garden. *happy sigh* I just borrowed them all for this story. I'm actually almost teary. I started off reading this fic stressed because of an assignment that's due tomorrow (hence, my immediate search for a comfort fix with some St Margarets fanfic!). And now I'm almost teary! It's a beautiful fic, it really is. I think you've perfectly captured JKR's point in the books, that love is so important, and you've done it in a very subtle way, building up the layers and ending with a revelation for Hermione that's emotional without being cloyingly sweet. Is this a missing moment from your New Zealand Chronicles, or will the wedding be included from Ginny's POV?
Sunday 30th July 2006 20:10That Which Is Constant (Author Response)
I'm so glad - not that you're almost teary and you have an exam - but that you liked it. (And you are comforted by my fics - my favorite books are the ones that bring me comfort - so I feel I've done my job)

Yes, since my New Zealand Chronicles are total self-indulgence, I'm going to write an alternate point of view to my own fic. LOL. I've been reading up on your beautiful country. I'll try to read more before I pester you with questions.

Writing in the first-person present for more than a paragraph or so sounds easy until you try it. Beautifully done, and a very impressive change of pace.

St. M? Is that really you? The tone of this story is very different from your usual stories. It's almost *angsty*! This sounds like it is part of your Ron the Builder story, so I am anxious to read more later, hmmm?? It's probably for the best that your name was leaked. It would have been totally obvious that it was you writing!
Thursday 13th July 2006 18:33That Which Is Constant (Author Response)
LOL - do I detect sarcasm? Someday I will write some gothic horror show with Draco Malfoy as misunderstood - Harry not really sure if he loves Ginny or *picks name out of a hat* Parvati, - and a least three Weasley die in gruesome deaths. LOL. No, I won't. Sigh. Just that little sentence made me sick.

Yes - Ron the Builder picks up right after this story! Thanks for reading and recognizing me in my Halloween disguise.

You did a good job of "masking" your style with the first person, but only St. M has Harry become a search and rescue medi-wizard (the perfect job for him, by the way)!

I love how you write about the Weasleys! So, if there are two Biliuses, which one was Ron named after? I loved Charlie's line about dragons. And I really liked that Penelope wove the fabric for the dresses--what a lovely detail! She and Gabriella DuSult really must meet up sometime...

Now I'm even more excited for Ron the Builder!
Thursday 13th July 2006 18:15That Which Is Constant (Author Response)
Ah, but I so cleverly avoided "New Zealand"! LOL. This is why the computer glitch happened - I was too obvious to begin with.

My friend Julu is writing a Percy/Penelope fic. in which Penelope does all these cool weaving charms (that's one of the associations with Penelope's name - that of a weaver). So I thought I'd "steal" it.

I like the idea of Ron being named after the Bilius married to Great Aunt Muriel - so the Weasley side, I would think.

I'm glad you're looking forward to Ron the Builder - it's coming right along!

Nice, very nice. You're one of the few writers who've really helped me understand Hermione better. Oh, I like her very much, but since I'm not really very much like her (except for having always been hypervigilant about my schoolwork), I often have a difficult time relating to her. But I felt like I could really empathize with and understand her here.

I loved the description of how Ron hugs. It was very sweet, and I can completely believe that our Ron really does hug exactly like that!

My favorite thing, though, was that Molly and Fleur were still grating on each other's nerves and being a bit snippy. It seems like most authors write them as being very sweet and adoring with each other after the scene in the hospital wing in HBP, but I think your scenario is much more likely. After all, Molly and Fleur are both still proud, stubborn, and -- most significantly -- not very tactful.
Thursday 13th July 2006 12:54That Which Is Constant (Author Response)
I'm so glad you read this, since I know R/Hr isn't your favorite thing. I've never really written Hermione's PoV before and I quite liked it. She is an emotional girl, isn't she? Very different from Ginny, but just as fierce in her own way.

LOL - Molly and Fleur will never have an easy relationship, but I'm sure little Phillipe will bring them together and over the years. Who knows - they may mellow - or not! LOL

Thanks for reading!

What a brilliant choice to tell this from Hermione's point of view. I could almost hear the discussion when her parents insisted on the gap year. I loved her putting off discussing communication skills with Ron. Kissing or talking . . . that girl finally has her priorities right.

I knew it before – with a knowledge like Baby Philippe – but now I'm starting to understand… like a grown up.
Epiphany runs strong in all of your stories.

Thanks for sharing.

It would be silly to have a bunch of "dramatic" events without some sort of insight. But thank you for your kind words. I'm writing a Ron-centric story and this challenge was a great way to figure out a few things about Hermione.

I'm glad you noticed the - er - communications discussion! It was certainly non-verbal! Thanks for reading.

Oh, its a treat to have a story from you. Sorry I couldnt review for the Frog Prince of Slytherin, since I was in India. I am back now and as usual, they both are amazing! Yay for H/G!

It's nice to see you back - my only regret was that there wasn't enough h/g! I did have to laugh at the idea of Harry becoming a Healer. I love the boy dearly, but somehow, people skills are just not one of his highlights, lol. I loved the twins during this whole thing. The Brideszilla was fantastic, and oh-how they torment thier poor mum.
Wednesday 12th July 2006 15:22That Which Is Constant (Author Response)
I can't see Harry as a Healer either - a hospital routine would never work for him. I can see him as a paramedic doing search and rescue, however. The medi-wizards in GoF seemed to have that role. (And usually your patients are unconscious or bleeding profusely, so Harry wouldn't have to make small talk ) Thanks for reading! You must have a very heavy writing schedule these days!

THis was brilliant. Perhaps it wasn't dramatic, or perhaps it showed drama in a more real light (Hermione certainly was experiencing a type of emotional drama, don't you think?) But it was beautiful, and needed after what's going to be a horrible ending (whether Harry wins or not, the ending will be horrible.)

Thank you for this.
Wednesday 12th July 2006 15:20That Which Is Constant (Author Response)
Yes - that was the drama I was going for - the emotional drama, rather than the physical. Thank you for recognizing that.

I don't think the ending will be horrible - except for the part that it is the end! Then what will we do?

What a night!

I love this series--there's something compelling about this post-war group slowly putting their lives back together. And Hermione's confusion--the desire not to be defined by her relationship, but slowly discovering that her more primal desire is in fact slowly taking control of her life, even when she ignores or fights it.
Wednesday 12th July 2006 10:55That Which Is Constant (Author Response)
I'm so glad you are seeing all the puzzle pieces I have out there. LOL. Now tell me how to put them together . . .

It's been an interesting time period to play in.

Hermione is really a fascinating PoV character - I loved seeing the Weasleys through her eyes. They satisfy her in a way she doesn't quite understand yet - as you say. Harry is easy since he doesn't have a family - but Hermione does. It would be so easy to get sucked in the cozy world of the Weasleys. And no independent woman of a certain age wants to see where her vulnerabilities and dependencies lie . . . But that's part of growing up, too. No wonder this is taking me forever to write!

How beautiful. It's a real shame that it had to be removed from the challenge, because it's a perfect fic. But I wasn't expecting anything less the moment I saw you'd written it It was really emotive and it kept me enthralled all through it. I loved the part where Charlie says "Dragons just hatch out of their eggs." That had me laughing out loud, just like when Fred says "Phil's a brilliant name". I can just imagine the look on Fleur's face!

Awesome piece of work, as usual. But now I'd better quit the praising or your head will start swelling (with the resulting neck ache). Nah, kidding. Great job! Thanks! ~Sonia

LOL - three lines and three dramatic events - I felt I should overcompensate because I didn't *really* milk the drama. Oh, dear, don't let JKR or Warner Brother see the trade mark - then I couldn't earn big bucks for all of my fan fic. Oh wait . . . Thanks for reading!

Very nice. Hermione is my favourite character, and if I can't have H/Hr - and I think that's a crime on this site - then this is the next best thing. I loved the paragraphs of their meeting again. That and the closure at the end made this a great little story, thank you.

I'm glad you liked the story, since Hermione is your favorite character and I've never really written from her point of view. I find R/Hr so hard to get right - H/G is my comfort zone.

We'll pretend we never saw H/Hr in your review. LOL. Kidding. I love Harry and Hermione's relationship - they really do love each other - just not romantically and there simply aren't enough scenes in fan fiction with the two of them just being there for each other and appreciating each other.

What a lovely surprise! Once again you have brought our favorite charecters along the path of life.

Please forgive my questions about the following exchange:
“I am not Bridezilla!” Ginny stands up.

“You’d better not be the Fertility Goddess,” Fred retorts, seemingly unperturbed that Ginny has her wand out.

“That’s –”

“Be nice Ginny –” George warns.

“Or you’ll be marrying the prince of your dreams tomorrow."

The last line seems to be not quite right.

I probably should have punctuated it differently - since Fred begins the punch line:

"Or you'll be marrying the prince of your dreams tomorrow - "

And George finishes it:

"You know the blonde one with horns?" George pulls Harry into a headlock and ruffles his hair.

Is that better?

I'm glad you liked this! It was a departure for me - what with the first person, present tense point of view and seeing the Weasleys through Hermione's eyes. So I'm glad my little experiment worked! Thanks for reading!

That Which Is Constant
Wow - that was nice. I love how you told everything from Hermione's viewpoint and even how you made her sort of an outsider to what was going on. Very well done. Just one thing - Harry really needs to play professional Quidditch for a while... Poor kid needs to have a little fun while he still can.

Erm - Harry is marrying Ginny so I think he'll have fun. I think Harry should play Quidditch - but I don't know if he would enjoy the scrutiny of the fans. I really wonder what job JKR will have lined up for him at the end of book seven.

You know, when I got your review via e-mail, I thought - wow - he's really good - he confidently guessed who wrote this. Now I realize that you are good - but not *that* good. LOL. I hope the first person present tense wasn't too annoying. I have never tried that one before. (I was trying to 'mask' my style) Oh well.

Thanks for reading. FYI - Ron the Builder is coming right along. My vacation was a good break and now the words are flowing again!
