The Seventh Horcrux
Hey so I stumbled across this thing while trying to download a copy of the film "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" way back in the summer of '07, when the 7th book was about to come out. I saw "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" as a PDF file and couldn't resist checking it out. I think maybe the best compliment I can extend towards you is that for the majority of your writing, I actually considered that it was the real thing, that J.K. Rowling's real book had somehow been swiped and distributed online. The only give-away was a few grammar/spelling mistakes, but even that could have meant it was a rough copy or something. Anyways, your work was amazing, absolutely stunning. Ever since I read it that first time, almost two years ago now, I've wanted to read it again. I had to have my computer restored to factory specs shortly after downloading the file and had forgotten to back it up. I've been looking for it on and off ever since and it was definitely worth the search.

I won't lie, there are a few sections that give away that it's not J.K. Rowling writing it, but still, that's definitely not something to mope over. Certain passages of your writing are spectacular, specifically the "tear-jerking" sections, such as when Harry visits Godric's Hollow, and even more so, this chapter, Chapter 30: The Locked Room. That entire chapter is utter brilliance, unbelievably emotional.

Do you want to know something? I'm being completely honest here. I have told just about everyone who I've talked to about "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" over the past two years something like this. "Yeah, I liked it, but I was kind of disappointed. I think she (Rowling) could have done a lot more with it. Actually, I read this fan-written version of the book - Like a full length book - around the time the real thing came out, and y'know what? I honestly think it's better. There are certain parts that have grammar errors and things, but the overall flow and the story are far superior." I really mean all those words. This work is unbelievable and thank you for gifting all of us with it. I only with the Harry Potter franchise was continuing so I could enjoy more of this. Thanks to your beta team too haha.

Anyways, I think I'll end with the whole "Less is more" mentality and conclude this very long comment with four words: You have a gift.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I'm still blown away by the support this story has received. I'm glad you enjoyed it - I certainly had fun writing it.

Thanks much for letting me know you still hold it in high esteem and refer it to others.

Wow! That was nearly as good as DH. I was kinda upset JKR didn't tell us how Harry and Ginny got back together.

Hey, I actually downloaded your book, thinking it's the Deathly Hallows, and read it right through to the end, with that same knowledge. I only realized it's not by J.K Rowling after I had finished. I've GOT to tell you:

That book is a MASTERPIECE!! I'm serious! It had to be the best I've ever read, and I've read quite a lot of famous books. It was so emotionally engaging, throughout the entire story. I know about J.K Rowling's work. YOURS BLOWS HER VERSION AWAY! Especially the part about what kind of things Harry has to do to succeed, and the pressure and maturity that builds upon him until the end.
One part that really blew me away was at the end of the book, in the final battle against Voldemort. WHERE did you come up with such a genius story? This conflict between Love and Hate? How his Love of his friends gives him the power to defeat one who knows only Hate? I was literally in tears when Harry passes into the Locked Room in the Department of Mysteries. This is the room of the mystery of Love, between Life and Death, where there is nothing but the home he's always had, and where he finally meets his parents and loved ones! You have GOT to show Rowling your book! That story is just incredible. Another aspect of how it's so good is the pure intensity of Harry and Ginny's romance. It affected me even more than it would have, since I was actually listening to "Whisper" by Evanescence while reading the final duel between Harry and Voldemort. Listen to that song, and think of the story, every word in its lyrics makes sense.

And wow again. I knew when I was reading DH that I had read a fanfic that was similar in this regard, but just not which one.

I consider this fic to be what I like to call 'Sevenworthy'. A phrase I coined and used for only one other fic (by mudblood428). I read a LOT of HP fanfic and I am VERY particular. This really is an all time favorite.

Melinda,

I am sorry I haven't been able to comment on any of your stories lately, real life took over, and quickly.

I have never read a chapter of any story that was as meaningful as this one. I had tears in my eyes for most of the time I was reading. I can't even find the right words to tell you how much I appreciate your art of writing.

I know this story isn't over yet, and I know I sound like a blubbering fool right now, but thank you for giving me something totally worthwhile to spend my time on.

Well, since I've finally got my internet working so that I can review (I've still been reading, though), I shall do so.

This chapter made me cry, although it was perfect the way it was written. Very emotional, very moving. I loved the final chat with Dumbledore -- a story never seems right without him. Keep up the phenomenal work!

I stopped reading last night at around 1:30 a.m.

The final conflict was so completely and absolutely right, I was affraid to read more -- foolish me. You could never disappoint.

To say that the word
Perfect
comes to mind in regards to this chapter is a gross understatement. It was so very ... satisfying.

Now I don't want to continue reading because it will mean this great adventure is coming to an end, and it has been the high point of my life in the last weeks. (I have a pretty great life, so that's saying a lot!) I think -- no, I know, I will feel a
Harry-like
loss when all is done.

I don't know what I'm going to have to look forward to when this is over. I think you might have to do another story with the foursome attending their last year of Hogwarts. (Don't laugh, I'm so serious)

I'm really going to miss this story. It was so truly amazing. And Voldemorts death was awesome. I love how you brought everything together.
I was really happy to see James, Remus, and Sirius together! That was great.

Perfect...just perfect! This has to be how J.K. will write it, and if it is not, I am afraid I will be disappointed. You have done a super job and I can't thank you enough! I LOVE how Harry reunites with the people who mean the most to him and I love how they have been looking over him. His parents...that was just perfect! Thank you for writing this chapter!

wow, very imaginitive, i loved it! as always of course. thanks for clearing up how the horcrux was made with just voldemorts soul.. both in this chapter and in your review response last time :-D i loved that you brought Dumbledore and Sirius back and let harry meet his parents. it was kinda similar to the ending to Cure of the Damned, which I loved to.. cant wait to find out what happens next!

Oh.... tearjerker!
That was absolutely fantastic, especially the part with Lily (she\'s so... mum-like! In the best way!) I can\'t wait to find out what happens next, so keep \'em coming!

By the way, I was impressed to see that this Harry-meets-parents-and-Co. scene is quite different from the one in your previous fic. You did a really great job with the emotions that Harry would really feel, I think, and the Marauder bickering was perfect!

when i read ur 29th chapter here last week, i didnt exactly think about what would happen next... i guess i was just too happy to know that mcvoldie was gone. (yes mcvoldie! its the best nickname for the poor guy! i mean, come on, cant you totally imagine voldemort working at your local mcdonalds!)

anyways, back to what i was saying. i absolutely love the ideas you had for this chapter. "the locked room" as you put it, is brilliant. the whole concept is so believable, i can see jk making a scene where he reunites with his lost loved ones and makes final peace with all that had happened. i bet these next few chapters were/are/have been, fun to write, what with how harry is finally free and can live his life. you can basically take it anywhere now, there is no more cannon info that hasnt been included yet, has there?

so yea, i give you three thumbs up and a rating of 12/10! =D cant wait for the next update!

I have been crying throughout this entire chapter. When he came to the door, it hit me like a brick wall and I suddenly realized where you would be going with this. No matter how much a prepared myself, the tears came pouring out anyway.

I love seeing the brilliant ideas you come up with and I never have to ask myself "Now, would Harry really do that?"
You have the characters' personalities down to the point where it's almost scary...

I love your way of writing because you can really get the reader to connect with Harry, Ginny, Hermione, Ron, and even Draco.

Other than the occassional typos (key word: Occassional,) your stories get an A++ in my book! I love reading new chapters and new one-shots by you. Each one is unique and has its own...shall we say, flavor or spice to it that makes them different from each other and different from other fan fictions....And yet, they are freakishly close to evil plots that J.K. Rowling would most certainly come up with.

You're just.....just.....

Bloody Brilliant!!

That was soo good. I had tears when all of the people showed up. I still do. It was so happy. And oh so good. Wait......GREAT!! I can't wait until the next chapter. And Sirius is cool.

Sirius’s comment had something to do with the phrase ‘smokin’ redheaded birds’

I love it. I also can't wait to see the reactions of Ginny, Hermione, and Ron to when Harry wakes up and when he tells them about what happened.

The Seventh Horcrux
That was simply amazing! I think that I was bawling from the time that Sirius showed up until the end of the chapter. It was simply beautiful. I truly loved how Lily kept fussing over Harry and the comment that she made about how soft his hair was.
I was impressed with Dumbledore's explanation of the Horcruxes, particularly what he said about the Dementors. That was pretty cool. I thought it rather appropriate that he was the one that Harry's mind called forth for explanation. Some may see Dumbledore as meddlesome and slightly crazy, but I've always loved his character. He's like a loveable grandfather that gives you just enough information to either help you solve a dilemma on your own or really get yourself into trouble. I thought it quite funny that he was encouraging Harry to give poor McGonagall more gray hair. *Snicker* I can just hear her now. "Albus, that will be quite enough!"
Giving Harry the opportunity to interact with all of his lost loved ones at once was a nice touch. It reminded me of the scene near the end of Curse of the Damned. That chapter is still one of my favorite fanfic chapters. However, my favorite line from this chapter has to be:
"There are those in residence within my realm that fear that girl’s temper.” That and Harry's comment to Snape at the end of the last chapter may be your best ever, and that's saying something!
Wednesday 11th October 2006 16:38The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Heh, thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It is bittersweet to think of the interaction between Lily and Harry, isn't it? I thought it natural for Harry to need DD after the final battle, and this was a way to get him there.

This whole chapter had me going. Loved it! It was so nice for Harry to have conversations with all those important people in his life that he has lost. I especially approve of the reluctance he showed when calling forth is parents. I imagine that would be pretty daunting.

I guess I'll have to keep holding out hope for Ron. It was interesting that Dumbledore could tell that Draco would be okay (after a long recovery), yet nobody knows about Ron. I'm not going to read too much into it. I'll just get myself in trouble.

I'm looking forward to recovery and more Harry/Ginny time.

You are the first fan fiction writer that made me cry for real, I even had a big knot in my throat.
I don't care if this "reunion with the dead ones" is been done a thousand times, I think it is necessary, at least in fan fiction, and you do it in the most wonderful way possible in your fics, but this one was the very best of them all.
It surprised me that the thing that made me start to cry was Lily, I'm not a mother yet, but I put myself in her place, it broke my heart to think that her, the one person who love Harry the most, is the person that Harry knows the least and for that he feels awkward around her.
The other thing that made my knot in the throat bigger was the last image of the Marauders, they really deserve to be happy in the afterlife.
The way you wrote Sirius was hilarious and so close to canon that I wouldn't be completely surprised if you turn out to be JKR, but seriously you know so well this characters it seem they were your own.
I cant tell you enough how much I love the way you write Dumbledore, I love him so much, I wish I could give him a hug.
It amazed me how many fans seem to hate Dumbledore and think he is a manipulative old man who is responsible for all the bad in Harry´s life, I wish some of this fans would read your fics. I think this bad image of Dumbledore is caused by some fan fiction, because in canon I really cant see him but like an adorable old man who made many mistakes in judgment and decisions in his life but all of them were for love.
Sorry for getting out the subject of the review.
I will print this fic and read it to my future children so they can chose who's version of book 7 they like the best, yours or JKR´s
Thank you and your betas for getting out the chapters so quickly, I have enjoyed the ride very much.

Oh, wow, thanks so much. I completely agree with you, while I don't always agree with all of DD's choices, I don't think any of them were made lightly. I think he truly loves Harry, very much, and he's got a raw deal in a lot of fanfiction. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. I, too, believe it belongs in stories, no matter how many times its done.

What can I say but, BRILLIANT!!! I don't know if Hermione herself could be this clever in storytelling. Your story has kept me absolutely riveted... I am constantly looking to see if you've added more chapters and not once have I ever been disappointed with your chapter updates. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were using Legilimancy on JKR herself... I look forward to the future of H/G & R/H, now that LV has been disposed of like the garbage he was. Kudos to you and know that I will be a faithful reader of yours for as long as you continue to submit... Thanks again for bringing it with both barrels loaded... Sincerely, rrp318...

Aww, thanks so much!! Cleverer than ?? WhoA=! Now that's a compliment - but let's not get too carried away I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and there is still more wrap up to come. The next chapter will fill you in on everyone else.

Angsty?! I think I'm still tearing up. Well actually thats what makes a good story to me, so this chapter was tops. It also seems to give Harry what he needs, closure with the ghosts of his past, and allows him the strength to go forward with his new life. Lets hope its not fighting evil wizards. I love your story, although I only started reading it about two months ago, it is really well done and very plausable with only one thing...I'm not convinced that Harry could cast an unforgivable, but its your story and who's to say? These last two chapters have been fantastic- but make us suffer just a wee bit more with Harry's recovery (love the angst), and that smoking red-headed bird.
Wednesday 11th October 2006 10:27The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Thanks! I love the angst, too, and Harry still has some to come Actually, the others do, as they fret over him and await news on everyone else. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter.

Hmm. That was different. Good, no, make that great, but different. I like how you fleshed out Lily\'s and James\' characters. That bit with the Quidditch pitch was nice (will Harry get any ideas about that one?). I also like how you kept Harry very in-character. His reactions to everything seemed very spot on. And Sirius (or NOT!) seemed to be having all too much fun in the afterlife. Oh well, I suppose he deserved it - he\'d already been to hell. Excellent job! I\'m looking forward to seeing how Harry and Ginny will get along now that Harry is finally freed of Voldemort.

Thanks! You're exactly right - Sirius has already been to hell, so he's allowed to live it up on the other side I had fun with Sirius in this one - he reminds me of Ron, actually.

You simply keep amazing me with your writing skills.javascript:smiley('');

After reading the 28th chapter I was really doubtful how you would pully harry alive out of this and the manner in which did that was something that really impressed me but the last few lines of yours made me again think javascript:smiley('');
javascript:smiley('');wheather you just kept him alive for a few emotional scenes and show that all harry really wanter was to finally rest with the people who sacrificed for him but this is simply beatifully potraied and your use of the original is also something that not many authors do......javascript:smiley('');
javascript:smiley('');

Congratulations on the wonderful job done with all the action adventurepart and let us see how good you make this with your talents in romance and a request do try and add some humor into it that is one thing that I did not find.... let us say in the required proportion hope you can add some jokes javascript:smiley('');
javascript:smiley('');with the twins and not just make it a pure romantic moonwalk.....javascript:smiley('');

Aww, thank you very much! I don't think my strong suit is romance, but I'm going to try. I have tried to put humor in throughout, but it has been a dark time in Harry's life. I'm working on the next one now, which is still kind of angsty, actually, as Harry is recovering and we learn what has happened to everyone else.

I said I don't review often, and here I am leaving a review for the very next chapter. :-) I also don't cry often while reading fanfic, but I did cry towards the end of this chapter. I must say it was very imaginative of you to have the meeting between Harry and his departed loved ones in the locked room. I've seen it take place in many ways in other fanfics, and I'm pretty sure we'll see such a meeting even in canon, but I was taken aback by the notion that you can only enter the locked room in your head. What a great twist!

Have you seen the movie "What Dreams May Come"? This chapter reminded me eerily of many of the scenes in that movie. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it, though it is a bit disturbing in places. Anyway, great job!

Aww, thanks much! I'm honored to get a second review so quickly! I'm glad you liked it - I really do wonder what role that locked room will play. I haven't seen What Dreams May Come, but I'll defitinely look for it.

Dang. Almost made me cry, that did. Very powerful writing. I don't know how you come up with these plot ideas because they're so good I think you must be getting tips from JKR! Really, I can almost see this happening.

I hope that Harry can let Ginny in and they can grow old together in love. I'm also worried about Ron. I hope that Hermione can bring him back because I can't imagine Harry being able to recover without all three of his best friends.

Are you starting to get that bittersweet feeling yet, knowing that the end of the story is near?
Tuesday 10th October 2006 10:01The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Heh, thanks. It is becoming a bit bittersweet as we approach the end. I've enjoyed writing this one, but I'm glad to be finished and the pressure is off. Thanks very much.

*sniff sniff* That was SO sweet! I loved the line from Sirius - chatting up a delectable blonde with nothing between the ears aside from peroxide... ROFL! And the bit about his mind being rather empty and Ron would find the point amusing...

I found myself between tears and laughter when Lily hugged him, and he noticed that she definitely hugged harder than Mrs. Weasley. And of course, it's always funny to hear that there's a few in the afterlife that are terrified of Ginny!

Great stuff... I'm dreading and waiting for the next chapter - because it means we're that much closer to this story being over : (

You got me to cry on that one! It's not easy to do.

There's not much I can say. The whole chapter was beautiful. I loved how you put the dead back into their normal roles: Dumbledore explaining, Sirius saying exactly the wrong thing...

I love how you've set up a long road ahead for Harry, because all to often writers don't seem to acknowledge that you can't just heal instantly--emotionally or physically--from something of this magnitude. You've made it believable that Harry can come out of it though, and I thank you for that. I wish I had quite as much hope for him in canon. Though it's hard to say until we have the book. If Jo did something like this though, I'd be thoroughly happy.

Wonderful chapter!

Wow, wow, WOW! Thanks for giving us the chapter that we all want to see but are pretty sure JKR won't give us. It was wonderful to read Harry reuniting with DD, Sirius, Remus and his parents. You captured his emotions very well I think, and I honestly had tears in my eyes at several times while reading. I can't wait to see what happens next, Great Job!

This chapter flowed beautifully, from Harry's initial wandering from his body to the locked room, and then as he thought of all those who are dear to him. I loved Sirius' banter and Harry's emotions at seeing them all. I thought that his hesitation in calling his parents was true, and when he thought his mother might be angry with him - my heart nearly stopped.
You made me cry, and that does NOT happen easily. I almost thought I wouldn't be able to write a coherent review. Still not entirely sure if I have.

Perfect! What more can I say?

I thought that Harry feeling uncomfortable with his parents at first, was fitting. I can\'t see anyone getting all gushy with people they have never met, even if they are their long lost family. I enjoyed the interaction between the Marauders, and the interaction between Harry and everyone. I really think you did a good job.

And I am so pleased that you didn\'t kill Harry.

Excellent!

Thanks! I think he'd be uncomfortable at first, too. How do you fit in a lifetime with a few words? And Harry is usually reserved with his emotions to begin with. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

i'm sorry melinda, but i have to confess that this is one chapter, maybe the first and only one ever written by you, that left me disappointed. This goes back to the chapter in the curse of the damned, in which he interacts with sirius and his parents. I have always felt that the only way harry should be capable of interacting with people that are dead is if he's dead himself. The reason for that is the same reason i thoroughly hate AU stories, in which through some deus ex machina, harry gets to live with his parents again or something. I know that that isn't what you do, but even going on that road halfway, like you do, doesn't feel right to me. The closest harry will ever get to his parents imo, is through the mirror of erised. Really granting him that wish doesn't feel right. But, I had no problem accepting your way in curse of the damned just for one time, though.
Here however, i get the feeling you just extended the scene in that story, which not only feels as if you had no new inspiration, but also felt way too over the top. The scene takes up an entire chapter, and it really feels as if i'm reading the ending of curse of the damned again, only too long. And as i said, i don't really like the basic idea of the chapter

I would like to add though that i realise it's easy to talk and criticise, and i don't want you to think that i suddenly hate the story or anything. I'll be looking forward to the next chapter as much as i have in the past.

Oh, it's okay to disagree. The one thing I've learned from writing this fanfiction is that there is no way to please everybody. This fandom, in particular, has very strict ideosyncracies we all like to see - and this is one of mine. Harry already did get that brief glimpse with the shades in GoF, but I still hope for him to get the chance, so, any fic I write will probably contain a scene like this one.

A vintage Melindaleo... it wouldn\'t be you if we didn\'t have Harry\'s near death reunion with his parents, Sirius and everyone that has gone on before. Very emotionally draining... and satisfying in an odd sort of way. Still... I\'m looking forward to Harry returning to the land of the living.

I never thought Harry would die ... I guess I just know you too well! And the angst was ok - teenage writers are a lot worse. In fact, most teenagers seem to be addicted to angst. Just not me, I guess.

Now for the chapter: it was beautiful. It's just how i'd like to imagine the 'afterlife' or whatever there is ... just like this world, just more permanant, and more adaptable. And happier. Only what's going to happen when Tom Riddle gets there? I expect a few people will have a thing or two to say to him, huh.

I didn't have tears in my eyes, but they were close, and I definately got the warm and fuzzies when James and Lily arrived. They would have been great parents, and Harry would have made a wonderful big brother, wouldn't he?

*sigh* He'll just have to make up for it by being a great uncle and dad.
