I have really enjoyed my reread of this! You've done a wonderful job. All the details are so awesome. I read this pre-DH, so I especially enjoyed all that you guessed right (and what you guessed wrong, but that's okay!).

The Seventh Horcrux
and it was never about Harry's love for Hermione.

Who mentioned Hermione ? I`d never imagine anything like that, it was clear that Harrys love was Ginny, of course, I made a more general point visioned troughout the series, shown on different characters but all the same -- the selfless power of pure friendship and love. It was more about comparing the suprisingly heroic and most admirable act at the end of Prince, because he did not mind being without his girl for a while --- all he wanted was for her to be safe, because that is what love is about --- you value the other more than yourself, the act that you let spoil thanks to a push-up bra and who knows whatever else. It won't be so naive (though I would like to be) to think that every relationship would be based on pure love and everyone would be ascetic to that poin, but sill, there are differences and this was one of them. And if I haven't made myself clear enough --- I consider the whole point of the series the message of the power and importance of pure love and friendship, of sacrifice for others, of everything that makes you a Voldemort-opposite, simply caring. I do not know where you got the Hermione-idea from, I`ve always thought that she and Ron were certain.

You don't get it. do you ? The Power Dark Lord Knows Not is meant to be love, not s*x. It's interesting how you describe the "best moment of Harry`s life", but if Harry himself would read something like that, I assure you he won't like it. You,. in this story, dropped love, in its purity and supreme selflessness as expressed troughout the books, Harry`s moral power, the determination to protect whom he loved, his character, for exchange for some damned selfish relationship based on physical attractivity. That`s not all right, is it ? You miss the most important point of the whole Harry Potter series, like most people do, maybe just because they miss bits of something themselves. Compare your work to the Deathly Hallows. Think about it. (nb: besides that, your guesses about the DH have fascinating accuracy)
Saturday 29th March 2008 07:53The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
I think I get it just fine, thanks. If you find taking love to that next physical step when the two were obviously ready and more than in love as selfish, perhaps it's your own view on what love consistes of that's skewed. I don't think the majority of us miss the point of what the whole series was about at all - and it was never about Harry's love for Hermione. Sorry - but I think it's perhaps you who should go back and take a second look at what really was happening.

the type-o patroller in me...
Oy, me again! Didn't I just have several of those myself.

I meant to say I was surprised that Hermione did NOT protest the fish part of fishinG!

Well, wow. I sort of dragged out the reading of these last few chapters because I didn't want this book to end.

I wish I had a copy of it, with a spine and everything, so I could curl up in bed and read it again.

You really did such a wonderful job with all the characters especially...well, especially all the characters!

I think your Ginny shines and stands out a bit more, because of her absence from most of DH. I was really hoping to see more of her in it, and I realized that the reason was because of you. If I had not read this story, with its full, rich unfolding of Ginny as a person (not just to be reckoned with, but who feels deeply and gives just as deeply, while still being true to herself) , I don't know that I would have missed her as much. I might have been satisfieed with DH being the trio's tale.

On another note:
Interestingly, I find it made sense that Hermione didn't like the use of live bait for fishing, but that she made no comment on the fate of the poor fish being hooked. I always felt that JKR should have meade her a vegetarian, a natural extension (no biases here!!) of her concern for elvish welfare.

Lastly, the type-o patroller in me found two. If you do a word search for "room" and "fly" you should get them.

Wait. That can't be lastly. I don't want to leave this review on a crit note!
I LOVED every minute of reading this story- and I am a very slow reader so that was a LOT of minutes! I thank you. And on to the Epilogue, which I don't recall from my first reading of TSH.

This was a excellent story and a pleasure to read. You have a talent for not only understanding human emotions, but putting them on paper, while fitting JKR's style.
Not only that, but you blended in Harry's epic struggles with Voldemort and the War perfectly. Im going to be severely dissappointed in JKR if the war makes Harry push Ginny away, they deserve each other SO, SO much. I really like how you captured the way that Harry's source of strength comes from his love of Ginny, and how their love makes them both stronger.

I really hope JKR can produce a equally satisfying book, but honestly, I think it will be near impossible for her to beat your epilogue.

This was the first fanfic i read, and now, im hooked. Ive read all of your other works, and loved them all too. (Power of Emotion displayed Harry's life and emotions better than in HBP)

Thanks for this work, and may many more come for our reading pleasure!!!

Great, great, great story! I would not be surprised to see most of this in the last book. I agree with the Harry/Ginny intimacy. You did it very tastefully. I applaud you and can't wait to read the epilogue.

I can't believe Iidn't review chapter 34! Sorry Melinda, exams had me stressing out like a maniac, so it completely slipped my mind! Either way this was a brilliant chapter, and that part at the end with Harry and teh Weasleys finally being connected as a family was brilliant! I adored it and it made me teary! But I was all smiles though, And the whole Harry andGinny becoming intimate was a very good call! It was very easy to buy considering what they've gone through.... it's not like they're 12 anyways.

Well, I'm off to read the epilogue!

Well that was fantastic. Please tell me there is an epilogue or something along those lines. I've absolutely loved reading your version of book 7, and it has been well.... MAGICAL. I think that is the word that best fits. The plot twists were incredible and you had me lost guessing at many points. I think that one of the most beautiful things that you have captured from canon is their powerful mystery. All the HP books are foremost a mystery and suspense. You had me hanging on the edge of my seat and wondering what could possibly happen next at many points throughout. Thank you so much for such an ingenious bit of story writing. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors as you delve deeper into fiction, especially if you plan on writing your own books now. Let the members of you site know when you finally make the transition and get published because I am sure that there are a good many of us that would pick it up.

Best Wishes,

Great Job! I can't believe it's almost over. I will miss these updates. Of course, I will avidly reread it many times.

I love the scene where Harry turns Snot around - so he isn't watching him & Ginny. That struck me really funny.

It's so right for Harry to have that peace & finally have a family of his own. I was glad to see you bring Draco around a bit - not all the way - which makes sense to his nature. Things should've changed some because of what all of them went through & you acknowledged those changes well.

Can't wait for the epilogue. You're a fantastic story teller. It's been such a pleasure to read your creations. You have a great imagination.

Thanks again for sharing your stories with us.

Beautiful, very appropriate and realistic chapter .
I'm sad there will be no more updates, but I'm also happy for you because finishing a story that is so good from beginning to end is a great achievement, I'm sure this fic will be on the list of the all time best HP fics ever and it must feel really good to know that you did something like that.
From now on you (like Harry) have your future in your hands and you can go anywhere you want with your writing and I'm sure you will do wonderful.
Now I have two book 7 to read to my children, yay!

OH MY GOSH!
I've been a dedicated reader of this story, and each time you updated I couldn't wait for the next chapter! I've been wondering how you could possibly put three more chapters plus an epilogue into the story after you'd basically finished a version of the seventh HP book. But this was fantastic! The story you've created is so amazing and different, you give JKR a run for her money! PLEASE continue to write stories, talent like yours shouldn't go to waste. Who knows, perhaps you'll end up writing your own series one day (one that sells for money, that is).

Melinda! Another beautiful chapter, and though I think JKR might blush, I don't think she'd necessarily disagree with your thoughts and reasoning, nor of your careful and respectful treatment of Ginny and Harry's passionate natures. Spot on! I've truly enjoyed reading this and will be so sad to no longer have your updates. Great work!

I loved the new chapter just as much as all the others, but the Ginny in your story is all of 16 years old . . . Not what I'd call a responsible inclusion; least of all from a parent. It doesn't make the story any less beautiful though!

This is a wonderful, satisfying tying up of all the loose ends—beginning but not ending with the final, true coming together of H & G and through the return—or rather arrival into—the life Harry has always wanted and deserved: surrounded by friends and family, his destiny purely in his own hands.

Beautifully done! It has been a pleasure from the beginning!

I have to say, you did surprise me. You said there would be a lot more but I never expected them to...

You had me laughing and snickering behind my hand the whole time. *shakes head*

I'm very glad that they're all warming up to Draco and vice versa. They've finally come to peace with each other. It's a nice change.

I'm just not sure what to say about it all. It's almost over And it was such an awesome story with all the drama, adventure, suspense, happiness and lots of (my favorite) angst. I've enjoyed this story so much and I hope you'll still post stories here.

Well, if I could write at all I'd offer to do the out-take for you! But alas I do not have that talent. But I'm a sucker for "first time" stories so that's why I mentioned it in my previous review. Oh, btw, I meant to say in my last review that I loved that Harry just had to turn Snot around before he could "have his way" with Ginny! That was just too funny! And I too want to thank you for this story! I've said it before but this is the best book 7 story I've read! If Jo kills off any of the quartet then your story will be my own personal canon!! Thanks!!

Melinda, that was incredible! I haven't been able to review your other chapters till now because of some real life issues, but I wanted you to know that I still find your work to be superb. I'll be honest, I wasn't really sure where you were going with Harry and Ginny for a while because of how horrible Ron was being about everything (I hated it when Ron nearly throttled Harry for tickling her), but these last three chapters have more than made up for that.

I for one truly appreciate that you allowed Harry and Ginny to become intimate in the story while keeping it within a "teen" rating. I enjoy the more "R" rated versions of that as well, but I was surprised that you willing to go that far - just as surprised as I was with how far JKR took things in HBP. I certainly agree that Harry and Ginny are extremely passionate and mature people, and I can absolutely see something like this happening in the real world - especially if the young people in question had been through what Harry and Ginny had. I found your "taking things to the next level" to be appropriate and believable and I'm very glad that you wrote these characters this way.

Thank you for sharing you amazing talents and gifts with us. These last three chapters in particular have inspired me once again! Your a fabulous writer and I wish you luck with all further future endeavors. Take care!

Oh, thanks so much! It's wonderful to see you back, and I hope RL will give you a break soon. I'm glad you liked the scene. It's not something I was really comfortable with, and I debated for a long time, but I DO think it works and seems right for the story. JKR really did let them do a lot of growing in HBP. Don't worry about Ron - he was torn between his role as big brother and best friend, but he's worked that out in the end. He loves both of them (although he'd never admit it to either, )

Wow. Everybody who has ever written a one-shot has at least a slight idea what writing a story of these proportions really means. To construct a meaningful entity is a brilliant achievement. Aww I loved it. I've read all the stories that you've posted on Phoenixsong (as you know) and they have all been first class. The Seventh Horcrux was no exception.
I love getting to the end of stories, but the ending of this one is bitter-sweet. The finalé of this was great and I look forward to the epilogue, but the end means there will be no more and that's not such a good thing.
I always look forward to the "Author Update" email I get telling me that there is a new chapter and I always drop whatever I'm doing as soon as I get it to find out what happens next in the story.
You are indeed extremely talented and my favourite fanfic author-to-date.

This was such an amazing story! I'm disappointed to see it end since now I don't have new chapters to look forward to. Everyone was characterized so well. I can definitely see this story has a believeable book seven. I'm so glad that everyone survived. I just loved the chapter where Harry was in between. I also laughed that all the Weasleys kept a scar from the war. Very cute and incredily poignant. (Sp?) I had to smile that this chapter ends on "scar". Nice touch. I'm glad that Harry and his friends are heading back to Hogwarts to have a great 7th year without the threat of death hanging over them. It will be an interesting year to have Draco there with the four of them being almost friendly towards each other. I also liked that Harry and Ginny couldn't keep a smile off their faces every time they looked at each other. A very wonderful story. I've enjoyed reading it and look forward to the epilogue.

Melinda, this was a very beautiful chapter. I loved the awkwardness of the day after between Harry and Ginny. Your characters are so true to JK Rowling's. Hermione is too smart for her own good. I'm glad she didn't tease Harry too much.

I love this part between H/G:
You're not sorry then?" she asked, barely breathing.
"Never. I'll never be sorry about what we did. I love what we did. I want to do it again,"
How cute. I love H/G.

I need tissue. I'm so sad it's over. This is the hardest part about reading novel length fics. Everyone must come to an end.

Great Job Melinda. Job well done!

Beautiful chapter! I'm happy with H/G being intimate. I think it was a natural thing for them to do now. The war is over, Harry is healing well, they understand each other and they are in LOVE! (Do you we get an outtake on the Broom Cupboard?!) The morning after was really cute! I really liked their friendship with Draco growing, I think that's marvelous. Oh, and I love that the last word was "scar" like Jo says it will be (as of now anyway)! Fabulous! Looking forward to the Epilogue!

Oh, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed reading your story. I've kept quiet, so you'll have not read a review from me, but I think you'll find that there are many of us in the shadows, cheering you on. First off, congrats on finishing! It's such an amazing accomplishment but not near as exciting as finding that so many people you'll never meet love you for it! Well done. Bravo!

By the way, I loved this line: "In fact, his diligence would make Hermione's dedication to her studies pale in comparison."

I laughed right out. I loved your take on the characters and especially your Harry. Is there an outtake worthy of the broomcupboard, perchance? Hmm? I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Wow. Just palin wow. I do have to say this though, I learned about this site late in the ball game. I have searched around, and I think yours is the best. If jk were to just not put out a 7th book, I would be happy to say yours would fill it just the way it should be. I know she is planning something darkeer than this, but untill I read your story, I truly thought she would have to put out another book to finish it properly.

Thank you for your time and effort. I know if I would have started to read this a long time ago, I probably would have just gotten frustrated waiting for you to finish it up. Took me the better part of 3 days to get through it.

Thank you again.

Oh, thanks much. I'm glad you found it when you didn't have to wait then. I know I've had several old readers tell me the same thing - that they're waiting for it to finish to begin. Just an epilogue left.

You think canon will be darker? Hmm, I thought this was pretty dark for a while there, actually. I'm SO eager to see how it all falls out.

"Harry was no longer that little boy stuffed, unwanted, inside a cupboard; instead he was an integral part of a warm and loving family. Through all the hell and destruction Voldemort had wrought in his life, in the end Harry had ended up with exactly what he'd always wanted"

I think you've got it absolutely right. That is what Harry wants above all: to be another one in a big world. To love and to be loved. After all, isn't that want we all want from life?

Congrats on your excellent work!

Dome 36

P.S. maybe you could write a little sequel with the Quartet last year at Hogwarts. That is just a suggestion, of course!

I received the email notice late last night that you had updated. I was so tired, but I was so tempted to stay up and read, but my hubbie convinced me to go to sleep. First thing this morning, I had to read your chapter.

It was a great chapter! I think you progressed Harry and Ginny's relationship to a logical conclusion, and I feel it was done tastefully. See, this is why I enjoy how you extend the story beyond the climax of the plot. We would have been denied this wonderful chapter.

I look forward to seeing the epilogue, but I must confess that I will be a little sad that this journey will be over for this story. If JKR ends the 7th book the way that you and I don't want, I am hoping that you will come back and "fix" it for us.
Saturday 4th November 2006 12:01The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)

I debated long and hard over whether to include Harry and Ginny becoming intimate in this story. I've always thought it was the one thing I'd be really embarrassed about if JKR ever saw this story

I'm not totally convinced that you aren't in fact JKR operating under a pseudonym...

I have to confess that I was sceptical about the story "winding down" - especially when you have been so good at cliff-hangars - but you managed it beautifully. And Harry finally got the girl!

This is one of the best stories, fan-fiction or otherwise, that I have read for a long while. I'm just not sure whether I should be happy or sad that the end is in sight.

I loved the bits about Harry and Ginny, their first time and the awkwardness the next morning sounded very realistic.

I also like your Draco. I'm glad your Harry was mature enough to take the first step.

This has been absolutely wonderful to read. I think the bits about Harry and Ginny were perfect; we don't need all the gory details! And I may have said it before but it bears repeating; I LOVE your Fleur. I have always thought of her as the "movie" Moody said to Harry "She's as much a fairy princess as I am." And I also love how you dealt with Draco. Having them all end up buddy-chummy best friends just isn't realistic; mutual tolerance, and grudging respect is about the best that association can expect! I am looking forward to the epilogue. And then, will be waiting for your announcement that you have begun your OWN book!

Oh, wow! I loved this chapter! I think it was very realistic and romantic that you had Harry and Ginny become intimate. I especially like Ginny's reaction to Harry not being there when she woke up, because no matter how secure she might feel that he loves her, that is an extremely realistic reaction for her to have to waking up along.

And Harry turning Snot around ~ hilarious!

And I really like how you ended it with the word "scar", which is rumoured to be how JKR plans on ending Book 7 (which I know you know, obviously), but it ties it even more to canon. I love your version of Book 7, and I think you did just an absolutely fabulous job. Congrats on finishing it, and I can't wait to read the epilogue!

Such a great ending to such a great story. I think I agree with you that HG's intimacy fits well into this chapter. You pulled it off very tastefully. I really loved this story as much as I loved the other two. You write HG so well with the perfect amount of fluff to not give you a raging toothache, but enough to give you a warm fuzzy feeling. Are you considering writing more stories after this? Post Hogwarts, maybe? I'd love to see what you do with the after Hogwarts stories as you do amazingly well with the school-aged ones.

Oh! Oh, that was wonderful. I could tell it was the last one when i started, and the entire time i was reading, i was thinking, 'please don't end yet. please don't end yet!'

"Now, he found it extremely ironic that the ultimate joke was on Fred since Harry would use the knowledge he gained from the book on Fred's own sister. Life was funny sometimes."

Oh, the irony, the sweet sweet irony. I was laughing so hard at Harry's book - and at Ginny's description of girl's conversations. Boys can be pathetic. They can be best friends for six years, and still can't even have a conversation about girls!

Ginny's bear - Snot. That was so cute, as was the fact that the pair of them just assume they'll spend the rest of their lives together. It's so sweet.

I'm going to miss my weekly updates, and i don't know why you were ever worried about this chapter. Maybe - do we get an epilogue? Or was this our last chapter? I'm assuming so, because 'scar' is the last word (hehe, i noticed that) but maybe in a few months ... if you get the insane urge to show us lots of little potters and weasleys ... and maybe a wedding or two ... ok, now i'm rambling. But just so you know we want it

a-m-a-z-i-n-g. the perfect ending to a perfect story.

i haven't regretted any of the months i spent reading this story, waiting for updates, walking to the library when i didn't have internet, endlessly checking the websites to see if the next chapter was posted.

i am excited to see how Book 7 measures up to TSH, seriously!!

i agree with your decision to make the intimacy between harry and ginny a part of the story. it DID seem right for them in the end.

thank you melinda, for giving me something to look forward to each week! i'm going to miss looking for updates all the time (although i probably will still check your site, lol).

this is a long review, but i also wanted to say that I am glad you used 'scar' as the last word in your story. that, as well as the intimacy, seemed like the right thing to do.

This chapter was really funny! I laughed out loud several times. I think my favourite line was: “In fact, his diligence would make Hermione’s dedication to her studies pale in comparison.” Very funny. I also really enjoyed Hermione in this one: the nude beach innuendo and the ‘morning after.’

Nice touch ending with the word ‘scar’ as JKR said she would.

I’m looking forward to your epilogue. I hope you include one more ‘Dursley Moment.’ For some reason they are usually my favourite in both fanfiction and JKR’s. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the Dursleys, but I love when they get put in their place. You have done a fantastic job of that throughout this entire story. I laughed everytime you mentioned them, from Molly using the house elves to annoy Petunia to Duddley teaching Draco poker.

Finally, I loved this story so much that I have gone and read your other two novels: Power of Emotion and Curse of the Dammed. They were great. Hope to see more of your work in the future.

I am soo glad you wrote this. You had loads of tension and drama throughout the fic, and then the gentle fluff and romance drizzled between. A very well-balanced story. You stayed away from the cliched fairytale ending, and yet, managed to give something that was even more touching.

I know, I know... there's still an epilogue to go. But can't argue with the fact that the main part is complete. *sighs*

This continued "detente" with Draco is interesting. Not sure what to make of it long term. Don't think they'll be exchanging hugs at Christmas dinners anytime soon, but who knows. Are you setting us up for a sequel then?

Loved the ending bit with reference to everyone's "scar"... 10 points to Melindaleo for her excellent use of JKR's admission that the last word is supposed to be "scar".

Wow... you told us that we would get Harry/Ginny time, and we sure did get it!! You wrote the intimate parts brilliantly, so you shouldn't fret over it AT ALL!!!
I had a gut feeling a little while ago to check my email, and when i did, the email that pheonixsong sends to everyone when a fic is updated was only 3 minutes old. So I'm a happy camper that I read it as soon as possible.
But now the story is basically over. I've anticipated it(the information provided about the after-war stuff, that is) but I'm beginning to become depressed, knowing that I wont be one of the lucky people to read your works.
ANYWAYS, I think this story is your best of all. You have provided a PERFECT 7th book, one that I'm sure that JK will have trouble competing with. Maybe its because I'm a sucker for the romance, and JK leaves that out a lot.
So I guess that is about it... thanks for giving us the pleasure of reading your stories(This is your last one isnt it? Maybe Im wrong... )!! I am seriously dreading this epilogue chapter though, since it will be the final strand . So yea... 10000000/10 =D
