Great story, even better the second time. But that bit about the dursleys was a bit unnerving.

Wow! What a truly amazing story! Your writing and plotting are so well done, so professional. I really enjoyed reading this, and it is just as enjoyable as the DH. For one, I liked that they were able to spend so much time with the Order, the other Weasleys, and even stay at Hogwarts--these we missed out on in DH that really made me happy in your story. And it's scary how many things you were in sync with Jo on: Remus' and Tonks' deaths, Ravenclaw's tiara, Harry being a horcrux., to name a few..it gave me chills. Anyway, I just had to tell you how much I appreciate this fanfic, and that I'm looking forward to reading your other stuff.
Thanks.

I love this story and actually like it a lot more than the real 7th book. This one just seems so much more fitting than the real book 7. I like the ending with the dursleys being killed. I would really like to see a 5 or so chapter story written on Harry and Ron going after Dudley. I think that would make an interesting story

Wow. Simply the best fan fiction I have ever laid my eyes upon. First of all, I want to say that JK Rowling has undoubtedly written the best books; there is simply no doubt, no one could ever write a better book than her, when it comes to Harry Potter, she created it for goodness sake.

However, your story is the best fan fiction I have read and I was blown away by it. The fact you had alot of striking similarities with the real book showed you both understand the books amazingly well and you are a bit psychic lol.

I was slightly put off by the end. The deaths of Vernon and Petunia seemed not to bother Harry in the slightest, which in turn bothered me slightly. I think he'd feel some sort of loss, even if it was nothing major, and the fact that Dudley is a prime suspect and Harry, as an auror, seemed to have no problem with it, gave me the chills a little.

Still, there are thing I like about your book that other authors missed out on. While you had romance, it wasn't too in-your-face (I'm all for romance, but I hate it when it's 90% romance, 10% action) and I'm glad you didn't go into detail about Harry and Ginny losing each others virginity because it would have made me cringe to read.

Best fan fiction I ever have read. I hope you write some sort of sequel. I would love to read it. Thank you for enlightening my hopes that not all fan fiction is ridiculous. I don't read many fan fictions that impress me or I enjoy reading, because they get too unrealistic and too focused on a single genre, but yours is certainly the best I have read to date.

All the best,
you truly are a gifted writer.

Rhys.

I have just finished this story and found it unfathomably captivating, enthralling and yet, not without an element of poignancy - something you do not expect from a fan fiction. Like everyone else it seems; I felt obliged to write a review, for this work truly deserves it. I loved the profuse detail that you gave Ginny whilst letting her character blossom in her own right - not purely labeled "Harry's girlfriend" or "Ron's little sister", but a character given as much if not more concentration in the book than Ron and Hermione. I love that she isn't marginalized; she is a particularly understated character in JK Rowling's final book. The comprehensive knowledge you must have of the Harry Potter series so as to tie up all the loose ends whilst linking back to the smallest semblances of events from the previous books but still weaving it in to create a sense of coherence. The execution of all the lexicon to the highest degree of accuracy; yet still you supplied fresh, enigmatic chapter after chapter. It is something to be revered. The tiniest facet of constructive criticism I can only possibly muster is that I would have liked to have read more of Hagrid, this is just a personal sentiment and slightly selfish of me I know, but he has always been one of my favorite characters and often on of the key factors to Harry's growth in the previous JK books. Although I must concede you did bestow other characters such as Draco and Lupin with more "page space", which did compensate for this, and the augmented attention he shows towards Ginnie I suppose is a catalyst for the mitigation of attention towards Hagrid - this could maybe convey his increase in maturity as he ever more relies on a partner, rather that a 'father figure'.
I also loved the ending; what an ingenious idea of how to evolve Dudley's character, he is inevitably dark in depths.
Just got a few questions that I feel I must eek from such a proficient writer as yourself.

Do you have plans to extend the story after leaving it so open for more? Now I know many others have asked the same question, but it has been some time since you finished and I was just wondering if the thought had just simply slipped from your mind. After all I have only just stumbled across this and I now find myself hungry for more.

What were your reactions to the latest HP book and the surreal similarities?

How did you become so good at writing? I to at some point would love to write something similar to this. How did you hone your skills and can you recommend any books, websites etc for me?

And can you personally recommend any other fan fictions?

Oh my god, Melinda!!!! *tacklehugglespouncestacklehugglespounces* I don't think that I got as much out of this story when I first read it as I do now. I love it. Tons. You and your betas have done an absolutely fantastic job!!!! Hmm... I'm not quite sure how I feel about the Dursleys at the end. Was it Dudley who did it? ... Meh... *shrugs* But.. I love everything else! I love how Harry and Ron keep bothering Snape, and I love how baby James is written; he's so cute! You've written the ships so well, though in the beginning, I thought the Ron/Hermione was a bit forced and I had expected some arguments, but I still really like it! And you've made me love my favorite ship, Harry/Ginny, even more . Thank you thank you thank you thank you so much! I'm so grateful to you for writing this fic.

Forever!

Hi June!

Thanks for the review, and I'm even more thrilled that you still enjoyed it the second time around.

I did leave it open-ended with the Dursleys, but yes, in my mind it was Dudley. He proved himself a bully, he also had leadership abilities despite his lack of smarts. He was the leader of his little gang, after all, so he can gain followers. I think with the right - or wrong - magical influence, he could be some trouble.

I have to agree that I think your version of year Seven is better than JKRs.
I did not particularly like the Elder Wand business. I thought your story very reasonable, except for Voldomort leaving Hogwarts alone until the end of the year - you could have just had a shorter time between those events.
I also appreciate that you managed to avoid all the cliche's - no super powers, no Heirs/powers, no super-rich Harry, no AU characters to save the day.
Just very well done with the standard characters and normal teen-aged viewpoints, using your own plot elements. Well done. I'll have to read it again some time.

I read your story right after DH and I enjoyed both.
But there are many parts of your story that I prefer: Tonks and Lupin´s deaths are so much more meaningful in your version. And I really like your more active endfight, the original is too much talk for my taste. And of course G/H is really well-done! I love bad Snape!!!
You got my convinced then that fanfiction can be fun and of quality.
That cliffhanger with Dudley really calls for Book 8! We´re waiting....

Hey, I actually downloaded your book, thinking it's the Deathly Hallows, and read it right through to the end, with that same knowledge. I only realized it's not by J.K Rowling after I had finished. I've GOT to tell you:

That book is a MASTERPIECE!! I'm serious! It had to be the best I've ever read, and I've read quite a lot of famous books. It was so emotionally engaging, throughout the entire story. I know about J.K Rowling's work. YOURS BLOWS HER VERSION AWAY! Especially the part about what kind of things Harry has to do to succeed, and the pressure and maturity that builds upon him until the end.
One part that really blew me away was at the end of the book, in the final battle against Voldemort. WHERE did you come up with such a genius story? This conflict between Love and Hate? How his Love of his friends gives him the power to defeat one who knows only Hate? I was literally in tears when Harry passes into the Locked Room in the Department of Mysteries. This is the room of the mystery of Love, between Life and Death, where there is nothing but the home he's always had, and where he finally meets his parents and loved ones! You have GOT to show Rowling your book! That story is just incredible. Another aspect of how it's so good is the pure intensity of Harry and Ginny's romance. It affected me even more than it would have, since I was actually listening to "Whisper" by Evanescence while reading the final duel between Harry and Voldemort. Listen to that song, and think of the story, every word in its lyrics makes sense.

This story is awesome!! I love the more "adult" relationship between Ginny and Harry, also with Ron and Hermione. Would Hermione have done that with Krum do you think?? Anyways, I read this after DH and I must say some of the paralells caused me to catch my breath!! You have a wonderful gift for story telling. Please write a sequel b/c I can already see that Dudley would rise...I love the way you cut if off like you did! Later!!!

I haven't commented for the last few chapters--too busy turning pages.

I'm so glad I came to this story late and was able to read it straight through without waiting for chapters to come up. I'm not sure I could have stood the suspense.

I can't tell you much I enjoyed this version of the end. There was just the right amount of danger, drama, angst, and romance, all blended together in precisely the right way. JK could have taken a few tips from you.

Thank you for this gem of a read. I do hope you'll continue the story in full-book form. Leaving us with that Dursley cliff hanger just wouldn't be fair.

Good luck in all you do, and I'll be watching for news of more.

The Seventh Horcrux
Since I read the first Harry Potter book, they became part of my life. I have read them all numerous times, and while I liked 6 the most, all of them where terrific. Then came 7. Bought it at midnight. Turned the last page a day later. How was I feeling? Sad. Not because it had all ended, as I anticipated I would have felt. No, i felt like I was hit on the head. Was this it? Was this the end of the story that became part of me? It couldn't be!

I hated 7. It missed the atmosphere of Hogwarts. It involved too many new details that were absolutely unneeded. Too many deaths, a worthless final battle, and an epilogue that was laughably bad.

Then I read this..i heard of it somewhere. For two days I sat at my computer screen, and when the final chapter was finally there, a tear rolled down my cheek. This is how the Deathly Hollows should have been. This is my conclusion to the story I liked so much. Thank you. You restored a lot of my sadness I had about the last book, and finally I can accept the sega has come to an end. Thank you.

(PS: Any good PDF floating around, with good lay-out?)

I love the Harry-Ginny relationship compared to HP&DH. i was disappointed in DH but this was what that should have been. My life has basically been on hold the past week while reading this. THANK YOU. I hope you definately write a sequel. while at first i was a little turned off at dudley being a wizard i definately liked it at the end. your epilogue was soo much better than JKR. i love this story. looking forward to the (possible) sequel!!!

Well, the first time I burst out crying was the mention of sweet baby James.
Next was Percy's old room.
Can't remember the third, but these things do come in threes and I am atill a bit sniffly.

Yes indeed, this epilogue is beyond 'Sevenworthy'.

This was absolutely incredible! Overall, I think it was better than DH! I was so dissapointed by the ending in DH, but I was so much more pleased with your version. The romance/relationships, the Snape storyline, the final battle, and the hunt & destruction of all the horcruxes are all better than JKR's version (just to name a couple of things!). Also your epilouge was AMAZING. You're an excellent writer, and I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.

P.S.
I read a lot of HP fan fiction on various sites, but this is the first time I've ever reviewed a piece of work! I registered an account just so I could! Keep up the great work!

Wonderful, it's how DH should have been. Nothing pointless like the "Hallows", but a very logical developped plot + a lot of detail.
The lovestory perhaps a little bit too sweet - but nonetheless: Thanks a lot, you set my shattered HP-picture all right.
And I've been really amazed about the things that turned up in your story and in DH like the Horcruxes of the Hogwarts-Founder. It was more logical, too, to destroy them where they've been found.
Keep on writing, you have quite a talent there, I think.

Melinda, I followed your story when you were still posting chapters, but after reading Deathly Hallows, I just wanted to say that I liked your story better. It was more cohesive, cleaner. Just as complex, mind, but the addition of the Deathly Hallows in JK's version was just so pointless.

I think I may have made a mistake...I started reading your story four days ago, finished it and then read the real "HP & TDH", and I have to admit that I actually liked your version better. The whole Harry-Ginny theme was just amazing, and as someone mentioned earlier, you have turned Ginny into a fantastic, lovable character.
Due to my stupidity, I actually thought your story was a leaked early edit of the real JKR book, so when I realised I was wrong, I was rather annoyed, as I found your version, storywise, to be perfect (although in a (very) few places, the wording could have been a bit better), and I knew that the real deal couldn't possibly be the same. I'm a sucker for happy ends. Very good job, and if I had to recommend either your version or JKR's to someone, I reckon your story would be my choice Thank you for a very good story!

OK, it is official, you have a curse scar in one of your toes that gives you access to JKR's thoughts. The tiara/diadem hit was especially impressive, followed by RL/NT kicking the bucket. Although I liked better PoE and CotD, I think you write better JKR than JKR. HBP and DH have been rather disappointing.

Thanks for sharing.

I think on July 21 you will find you got many things right in this wondeful fanfic.

Heres what i believe you got correct:

- Harry finding he cant resist Ginny, and finding they get strength from each other
- Draco Malfoy evolving as a character
- *SNIFF* Lupin dying*SNIFF* I am a father, and my friends were kind of like the Marauders in our day. Our generation would give our lives without pause to see the next generation (our kids at school) live. Thats what the Marauders accomplish. They may have been naughty, but their sacrifices ensure that there WILL be a Marauders 2.0 group. There is a certain sad, yet complete feeling that the older generation willingly gives their lives so that the younger generation can have life. I think its the type of thing JKR would do.
Notice i said nothing about Wormtail, i am convinced he has a role to play. I am guessing upon seeing Remus die for harry, Wormtail will be reminded of his debt to harry AND feel sorry for what he did to James. I suspect Peter will die, after Lupin, and Harry will forgive him.

Here are things i HOPE for
-Remus and Bill get to teach Fenrir a lesson
-Neville pays Bellatrix back, perhaps with harry's help
- Mr. Weasley gets to slap Lucius.
- Ginny assists Harry in the destruction of "Tom", as repayment for ruining her 1st year at Hogwarts
- H/G and R/H marriage.

how can i say this nicely.....I HATE THIS! lol --At the end of every single chapter, I could just hit the 'Next' button and read on...now with this ending, I can't!!! I want to hear about the wedding, about Dudley and how he might be the next Voldemort, and about how Ron and Hermione, and the other couples turned out! ...I know I didn't have to suffer through it like some others did, but I HATE suspense! ...lol--but overall I loved the story--now with a week til the REAL book 7 comes out, I have to finish reading #6 and get this one OUT of my head.... - to remember that it doesn't necessarily have ANYTHING to do with JKR's storyline
you don't know HOW much I hate having to stop reading this story, and how much I wish it never ended...somehow...and how much I hate that I'm going to have to forget all of it! --but KEEP IT UP! you're absolutely GREAT!!! I love how you always make it seem so real, and how you just get into the characters' heads and know exactly how to make it.
i love it!

Wonderfull read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately I was one of the many who got this as the circulating leaked 7th Harry Potter novel. I am glad I was able to track down the real author of this rendition so I could give praise where it is due. You have a wonderfull gift and I hope you use it as often as you can. My eyes have been opened to yet another wonderfull author and I can't wait to read more of your work. Thank you!

I just wanted to let you know that I have read all of your stories on this site within the last week. I'm a mother of 3 and work full time...but I found myself up til atleast 1 am every night this past week reading. I would print out the chapters and read them at work!!! Crazy I know. BUT I could not stop myself. I read The Seventh Horcrux first. I told my husband that I thought I was really reading the last book in the series. I have been sucked into this world of Harry Potter for a long time!! I read my husband a chapter and he agreed....as he doesn't do alot of reading but has read every HP book more than once. He said it was right on!!! I'm both looking forward to the last book and dreading it at the same time....because I know it's over. My only hope is that it is half as good as this story. Both my husband and I have agreed that if JK kills Harry, Ron, Hermonie or Ginny......we will always consider your story the true ending of the series....I'll even take the Curse of the Damned as the ending!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I had never read a HP fanfic before this one. Someone sent me your fanfic, thinking that it was the 7th book leaked. After I started reading it, I could tell that it wasn't the real thing, but i couldn't stop reading. 14 hours later, i finished it, thoroughly happy that i did. It was amazing! Before I read your story, I was never really interested in Harry's romance with Ginny. After reading it, it's all i think about! Thank you for opening my eyes about both of them, and love in general. You are very good at what you do. Good luck, and keep them coming.

The Seventh Horcrux
Hey there Melinda.

A couple weeks ago I've found this story somewhere in the Internet but no one seemed to know if it was the real one or just a fake (even tho I know I can't call it 'fake' because you never said it was the real one anyway).

I started reading it and the next moment I was completely addicted to it. Stole me lots of hours I could have spent sleeping, that's right, especially because I read slow and English isn't even my main language ^^ . But it was worth it because this story stands to JKR creativity level and that's awesome. The whole story is awesome.
I'm glad im at holidays because my sleeping schedules are all messed up now =P

Shame it has an end =P I hate it when they have ends, even tho they always have, but I'm glad you left it open. (open ending gives space for sequel )

I liked the happy ending, everyone marrying and making babies, hein?
Malfoy ended all right, that was nice. So did Neville. Dunno what happened to Hagrid but I'm sure he was all right in the end too =P

It was really hard to find you, took me two days to trace you but I had to find you to congratulate you for your job.
Keep up the good work.
Congratulations, and thanks for writting...

Thanks for taking such effort to find me, it's really appreciated.

i loved reading it, and i read it twice.

I'm sorry you were tricked. Please believe that I had nothing to do with this hoax, but I'm honored that you enjoyed it and took the time to tell me anyway. Please pass the word to the other people you sent it to that it is, in fact, fanfiction.

look man, have got to admit... you're hell to good of a writer to just write here as sport...! I just loved this Harry Potter fanfiction as if it was J. K. Rowling who wrote it! A heck of a story and you just seem like her writing! Congratulations man! I'm portuguese and I had the freaken pHatience to read all from the beginning! And I don't really read portuguese books! (except Harry's ones off corse!) I just loved all teh details in this book expecially the fact that Harry's an Horcrux and how he got rid of it.

The Seventh Horcrux
Well, I'll start off by saying that I'm a 17-year old male who never reads fanfiction, and certainly hasn't entertained the Harry Potter freak within himself for quite some time. In my position, I rarely find myself moved to tears by anything.

So imagine, when I found myself reading this epic of yours, my surprise after tearing up again and again, unable to keep myself from diving deeper into your story.

I laughed, I loved, I cried, all the while feeling very immasculated for loving so deeply what I knew was a romance-minded fanfiction (albeit the best ever written).

If I find myself at all disappointed with Rowling's close to the series, I think I'm finally sure now...I'll be able to shrug it off, with the knowledge that I know what really happened to those characters, because I've already read the real ending to the series, and it's right here.

So thank you so much for writing this story, it'll stay in my heart for quite some time. Thank you.

P.S. As a (very slightly) unwelcome side-effect, I now find myself absolutely in love with Ginny...unwelcome purely because I already have a girlfriend, not to mention the fact that Ginny is not real (*tear tear*). But I suppose that's not your fault...not that I could blame anything bad on your writing anyway.

Thanks again.

Aww! Now you've made me all sniffly! Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm sure the real ending will give our heroes a happy sendoff, as well. There are too many sad endings in real life to want to read that in a fantasy story, you know?

Thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed it.

Number ONE on my fanfiction favourite list!!! Except fot the problem stated with the one chapter (see A/N), I could totally believe this could have been written by JKR.
A first class work of art, and I'm keeping it in case DH doesn't measure up to the quality of this. Would have liked a bit better description of H&G's wedding though.

Hi Melinda!

As many others before me I registered only to review your magnificent story.
Being a big fan of the Harry-Ginny plot line I enjoyed your ‘book’ very much. I stumbled across this story while reading in a HP forum. I recently read HBP again in preparation for DH, obviously finishing it way ahead of the release date. Rereading got me all hyped again and so I started browsing the net.
I was thrilled to find such an extensive, thought-through and well written version of the events post HBP. I stopped reading only for work. ;-)

Things I especially enjoyed:

- Harry and Ginny’s relationship
- the way you integrated all the loose ends that JKR left in the previous books
- the surprising and imaginative plot ideas and twists
- evolution of Draco’s character
- development of Harry’s powers

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the story there are still some things I’d like to criticize. Being a non-native speaker (I’m from Germany, but I’ve always been reading HP in English) that might be a little far out, but I’m gonna anyway. :-P

- some of the language you used just didn’t seem to fit (a lot of ‘prats and gits’)
- although I’m a little of a romantic myself there was a little to much emotion for me (to many trembling lower lips, lumps in throats and welling up)
- some loose ends seemed to stay loose after all (I can’t remember all of them but e.g. the giant involvement that Hagrid had been working towards etc.)
o I have to add that I still think the way you thought of all the details and how to fit all that into your story was amazing. I could never have done that. Seems to me that would take an incredible amount of work.
- To me it seemed very unrealistic for Harry and Ginny to wait more than a year after the first starting going out until they had sex, especially under those circumstances.
- Although I overall enjoyed your stile of writing immensely some words and phrases seemed to keep repeating and I wished you would have come up with more imaginative attributes. (e.g. fiercely; sorry I can’t think of any more at the moment and sorry again for criticizing while I could never do that nearly as good; it’s all meant constructively)

Well, I think I’ve elaborated enough. Again, thanks for brightening up my last couple of days. You’ve shortened my waiting for DH at least for a tiny bit. I really hope that some of your ideas were JKRs as well, since they were just what I was hoping for, too. I’d definitely recommend your fan fic to all of my friends but regrettably they are all reading HP in German. 
This was the first fan fic I’ve ever read and I was very much surprised to find such creativity and skill.
Thanks again and go find a publisher! :-D

Great story with excellent writing. Truly a masterpiece of fanfiction.
The only problem I had with it was in trying to figure out why the Tonkses would blame Draco specifically for Nymphadora Tonks's death. Was it because he was a Death Eater? Either way, the whole thing was really well done, and it was all a pretty plausable scenario, unlike some stories that don't make a lick of sense. This was just great.
Monday 4th June 2007 17:45The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, it might not be totally fair why they blame Draco, but they've lost thier daughter, and that kind of grief isn't always reasonable. He was a DE who helped in getting DD killed, thus dragging Tonks further into the fray. He was someone to blame.

Hi, I registered pretty much just to review this.

I was one of the people that recieved this with it being called 'The Deathly Hallows', but after seeing some obivous differences, I looked around and found out that it isn't and is actually yours.

All I can say is that it is one of the best stories I have read. I think it may even surpass the actual thing. Would love to see a sequel to this, although I'm not too sure how well Dudley would do. Well done!

glad to see Harry stopped being so noble when it came to Ginny, also glad that he trusted Ron & Hermione when it came to the final battle. It was nice to see the nice side of Draco as well. I'm not sure who else noticed, but the mysterious deaths in surrey reminded me of when Voldermort Killed his parents.

I spent a full week reading this story, and only just now finished it (I steadfastly refuse to read while I'm writing, especially with a story in the same vein as mine, so I never saw this until it was on the front page). It was amazingly detailed and beautiful. Your characters were spot on.

Hi Melinda

This feels a bit odd. I've been reading fan fiction for at least ten years now, and this is the first time I've put finger to keyboard to review a story. Quite terrible, really; my only excuse for this emotional leeching is that I don't really like admitting I'm into fanfic, and writing to some random person out there in internet-land is so 1995...

However, I would be completely remiss, and an utter git besides, if I didn't write about this story. It is masterfully written, and I think the biggest compliment I can give is that I feel spoiled for July 21 You've weaved in every factor I'm expecting in book seven; this story has taken the JK Rowling's skeleton and built it up with your own muscle and flesh, and I think it's fantastic.

Yes, I cried when Harry met his folks. Yes, I laughed heartily at that final newspaper. Yes, I cringed when Harry got up to read instead of staying in bed.

Well done on a fantastic story.

Cheers

Kyle

Heh, I suppose I'm stuck in the 90's, since I quite frequently chat with strangers on the Internet . It's okay - the 90s weren't bad!

Thanks so much for taking this temporary trip back in time to let me know you enjoyed my story. It's been getting lots of new readers since all the DH strangeness, but I do appreciate your taking the time to review.

I'm both eager for and dreading July 21, but it seems we're steamrolling toward it now.

WOW! I found this story on the site one day and I just couldn't stop reading it! It was amazing! You are such an awesome writer, I hope Deathly Hallows ends up as wonderfully as this! I may need to go back and review all the other chapters individually to point out my fav parts and lines, lol. I must say though, that you did an excellent job with the story; keeping the plot moving and keeping all of the different elements intertwined. You didn't leave anything unexplained, and I loved how you explained all of JKR"s loose ends! Your ending is amazing; I predict many children for both Harry & Ginny and Ron & Hermione! I'm glad that Draco came around, and that stinking Snape got the ending he deserved. But the shocker was the very end; Dudley killed his parents! I can't believe it! Are you going to follow up on that? Or did Dudley finally just lose it and kill them to get them to shut up? lol Either way, you did an excellent job, and it was a great way for me to wait until book 7!
Leaving you with bright hopes for book 7 and any of your future works, ibelieveintruelove

Amazing! I've enjoyed this immensely. I'd been wanting to read it for awhile, but I try and avoid reading more than two WIPs at a time because it gets complicated following so many. Anyway, this is excellent.

Favorite details:

-lightning bolt mark on the Horcruxes
-Ginny and the underage magic
-Dudley being magic (but I can't believe he killed his parents!)
-Percy's sacrifice
-Iris and Shannon
-Bill and Fleur's wedding

And a thousand other things.

read it a second time today, not completely, but most of it. One of the things that make it so good, is the fact that it's pretty obvious you're not striving to make it the way book 7 is gonna be, but took your own road. That way, you managed to create a very well-plotted, complete story.
People who try to speculate on every detail and hint jkr dropped when making their 7th year fic usually can't do a good job...

The Seventh Horcrux
I know its been months since this story has been finished, but when I stumbled upon this fanfiction, I had no idea that I would quite literally fall in love with it and read the entire thing. In fact the only reason I got a user on this web site was to leave you a review -no offense Phoenix Song! This story was by far the most successful fanfiction I've ever read. It's absolutely brilliant! In fact, obviously I hope this doesn't happen, but if J.K, for any reason, disappeared, I would be satisfied having read this story.

The mixture between action, horror, comedy and romance made this a respectable novel, rather then a gushy, sub-par, dialogue infested fanfiction, which seems to be a big hit on hp.com. I believed every minute of it, and believe me: there were MANY minutes to believe, seeing as how I'm, by far, the slowest reader alive.

You did the most amazing job with relationships in this story and half the time you had ME blushing when Harry was awkward with Ginny. Although, their awkwardness progressed (or do I say degressed?) perfectly! I love them together, so this story wins in that category!

One chapter I just MUST mention- "The Locked Room." Wow, I didn't see that coming and yet it was the one thing I hoped would come, more than anything. I may very well have been that I was premenstrual while reading it, but I cried the whole way through! It was just TRULY outstanding.

There's so much I have to say about this story and I just can't put it into words! So I guess I'll end this little rant by saying A+ work and I'd read anything done by you.

Thanks for hours (sighs) of magical potter pleasure, lol.

Oh, thanks so much! I'm honored you subscribed just to review, and I'd suggest reading some of the other stories on this site. It's by far my favorite one, and I think the stories are nop notch.

I'm thrilled you enjoyed it, particularly The Locked Room. I'm really pleased with the way that one came out, and I really hope Harry gets some sort of closure in canon.

Thanks much, and happy reading!

The Seventh Horcrux
I said when you first introduced him as a magical character that Dudley was downright scary. And I love that you went back to that at the end. It was was such a dark, ominous twist after all the fluff in the last couple of chapters. Those two little paragraphs couldn't have conjoured better images of Riddle's youth.

So, I say forget the Harry/Ginny vignettes. You've got that angle more than covered all ready. If you're going to build on this, what I'd love to see is Dudley's perspective on his fall to the darkside, especially if I'm assuming correctly and what you've show here is only the first major step. It's a fresh idea -- one I've never seen in our corner of the fandom -- and leaves you so much more room in which to play. I think it would be great fun to read.

But either way, thanks for all your hard work on this. I really enjoyed the depth and complexity of the plot, and it was fun watching your writing skills develop as you went along. Good work, and congratulations!

Oh you! Well, I think this is honestly the first time I got on board a story after is was completed and thank the lord! What between you and Myth and Hwhismey, I don't if I can handle any more intense waiting with cliffies!!!! Not only that, but cardiac arrest due from anxiety over lack of updates is no picnic...so thank you!

Having said that, it is usually the case that when I click to the next chapter, I omit the review. And yes, *gulp* I am guilty of doing that here. But I'm assuming, the oh, what would you say, average of 40 reviews per chapter, speaks volumes of your talent and our appreciation for sharing! This really grew to be a fabulous piece and I honestly don't think I would have enjoyed it so much had it not been that it evolved the way it did. If that makes any sense...lol.

Well done, great work, and this is honestly the best piece I've ever read from you.

Snicker; snort... Leave it to Luna to scare Hermione just after Harry had calmed her down! Too funny! Sorry for the delay in reviewing. This is a wonderful end to a wonderful story! Kudos for the way it transpired. I love seeing how Harry and Ginny got married as quickly as possible, whereas Hermione made Ron wait. That was excellent!

Now, for those deaths in Surrey? Where is this going to take us? A sequel perhaps? Please? Pretty please?!

first time review so dont shoot me if it sounds dodgy ok...

this plus the HPB missing moments are some of the best stories ive read on this site i can deffenetly see why this story deserves it place at no. 1 it pwns face, there were alot of times in there that i was laughing, like ginny trying to hex harry after he used his vampire voice, or when they were talking about the teddy bear snot. there were other times where i was increadibly frustrated like the point where umbridge opens the ministry up for voldermort but hey at least she finally got her come upance, very nicely done. (at times like that i was so wrapped in the story i lost track of what was happening around me so well done again), this whole story is a 10/10 for me and im hoping that the rest of your stories are just as enthralling, in fact i shall go read another one right now and if i like them just as much i may just post another review...

AWESOME. Of course. I expected no less from you!

Harry and Ginny\'s trials and tribulations? What about that wanna-be dark lord Dudley? And will Draco go dark with his buddy or will he help Harry squelch the idiocy before it gets off the ground?? Does Dudders have enough motive? Or is he just a copycat? Hmm.

"Same could be asked of you! I sent Snape a wedding invitation, too," Ron said, barely controlling his grin. "He didn't respond."

Too funny and fitting. I love this story and the fact that you could weave such wonderful imagery into such a captivating plot with real, believable characters. I would love to see some one shots of Fred and George, too...just a suggestion

don't see harry becoming an auror myself (i'm on of those "he's fought enough dark wizards for a lifetime" guys myself), and i personally wish you'd taken a bit an earlier spot to set your epilogue (like the start of the school year, or something), but well, this is personal taste, ofc. For me, while the ending in CotD was really nice and well done, i didn't really want to read the same thing twice, only different. And with the setting of this epilogue, i feel that you've gone in that direction a bit too much. But i guess that's what epílogues are, and why i generally don't like them that much.

Anyhow, since this is my last review for this story, i cannot leave without saying how much i value and appreciate your entire story. You have given us an (almost) entirely credible, high-quality Horcrux fic. Maybe i should spend a whole wall of text detailing all the good things about this story, but that wouldn't be enough, and i've never been really eloquent. I do hope for some one-shots deepening this story, whether by you or by other people willing to play with it.
Monday 13th November 2006 19:35The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Heh, I used to want a Quidditch career for Harry, myself, but HBP made me think that becoming an Auror is truly what Harry wants, so there you go.

I'm glad you enjoyed the ride. This story sort of took on a life of its own, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Thanks much for coming along!

Nice epilogue. You gave us some information about what follows, you have chosen a point in time when something ends and something begins, which is always a good moment for reflection, but you also introduced a new riddle. So, you've basically left everything wide open, which gives you the possibility to do what you like.

Well done.

Hmm now why does that last bit seem familiar? I really really think you should plan a sequel.. but then I'd say that anyway.. Just seems to me that Harry has someone else to deal with now.. would be nice to read a post hogwarts fic by you..

Anyway, I loved the Epilogue, (even the cliffhanger-like ending), I couldn't help but laugh at this bit though:

"The monster in Harry’s chest perked up its head and roared."

I liked the way you added that Well I left my longer review last time I just had to comment on this chapter aswell.. I really hope to see more from you soon..

This has been a terrific journey from start to finish.

Thanks! I think Dudley would stick with The Big D - he's Muggleborn and raised, so I definitely see more of a Muggle influence than with Riddle. Dudley has always enjoyed being the leader of a gang, and I think he's be very influenced by someone more...sinister. Heh.

*sighs* It's really the end of this story. It's been a bit of a habit to look forward to a new chapter every week or so. What am I supposed to do now?

The epilogue was cute... especially the H/G interaction. : ) Kinda surprised you went with Harry as an Auror. Guess I'm just used to the fandom theories that Harry wouldn't be interested anymore. And kinda funny that you flipped Ginny and Hermione's jobs (Ministry and Healer).

Nice cliffhanger to end the story. Been dealing with 30-some chapters of cliffies... and you END the story with one... wth?
Monday 13th November 2006 19:52The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Heh, I used to like the idea of Harry playing Quidditch, but I think book 6 indicated that Harry very much wants to be an Auror. I really try to get in the characters head and do what they would do, rather than what I'd want them to do. As for Ginny and Hermione, well those other roles are really just the fandom so they're still wide open until canon says otherwise

Heh, and I just couldn't resist the cliffy at the end!

I loved the ending; it was so perfect from the Queen of Cliffhangers author who drove us crazy waiting for the next installment. Everything was so sweet and then you threw in a twist--guess I'm a bit demented but I much preferred that to a "and they all lived happily ever after" ending.

DARN IT!

Even though it's the end, you leave us on a cliffhanger!!!!
How dare you?

*throws a fit wanting to know more*

I don't like you very much for that... (I kid, I kid...)

But it's just like you.

It's so nice to see how free Harry is now....but....James Harry Potter?
It just...doesn't have the same ring as Harry James Potter...but that baby must be the most adorable baby ever. I figured Ron and Hermione would get married a while after Harry and Ginny...Considering how long it took them to get together in the first place (haha)

This epilogue actually made me tear up a little...

And I knew something big would happen at the end. I knew it would be Dudley... *sigh* WHY?

It is a really nice to think that when they all met for the first time that they would in fact end up being related to each other. It seems like the right thing and we fans wouldn't have it any other way.

Thank you so much for once again satifying our need for superb writing and ingenious plot twists.....and lots of angst.

Well Melinda, you did it again. You enchanted me with your brilliant work! That was amazing, chock full of fluff and fun and light-heartedness! Although that article was quite depressing, I'm glad they didn't notice... Ron didn't need his wedding marred by the news of the murder! But I wonder why Dudley killed his parents (if it was Dudley at all). But even more curious, I wonder who would want to kill them 4 years after the date? I doubt it was Draco, but maybe it was!
Gah! Only you would give us an epilogue that would have us theorizing as much as every single other chapter in your fic! But that's what I love about you... always keep the mystery alive!

And James is so cute!! I couldn't help laughing a bit and I had this huge smile on my face when I read the interaction between the Harry and James!! Also, the pep talk Harry gave Hermione, and the fact that he gave one to both his best friends was so appropriate and wonderful!

Wonderful work!

Excellent; many of the little details just "feel right" -- especially the post-war baby boom & Hermione's desire to be "in control" at all times.

As for the newspaper article at the end, there would appear to be an obvious prime suspect (from the perspective of those who know of the Wizarding world), though the catalyst isn't especially clear just yet.

As for the possibility of some one-shots, I'd welcome that. I'd also rather hope that Moony & Tonks will be remembered somehow -- I can see giving a child "Remus" as a given or middle name; I'm rather less certain of "Nymphadora," though. Maybe "Tonks" -- that's what she went by, in any case, and I rather doubt that Ted & Andromeda are likely to be producing any siblings for her.

Speaking of remembering, I'd also expect that remembering those who didn't survive the war would be a significant part of "Potter Day."

Thank you (again) for sharing your talent!
Sunday 12th November 2006 07:40The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I certainly think there is plenty of room to run with the idea of Dudley, plus...if news of Harry's horrid upbringing was brought to light, he also might become a prime suspect.

As for Harry and Ginny's future names for their kids, I think poor Harry has a long list of people he could go through. I'll leave that up to the readers imagination, since we all seem to have strong opinions on names.

Heh, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

That was brilliant!

I enjoyed many chuckles all te way through this.

Now to the serious part:

*sits Melindaleo down*

You just HAVE to carry on with this. You have Dudders who looks like he is heading down the same road as Voldy. Snape who has every reason to want to escape from Azkaban after having Harry's success rubbed in his face... Harry who would feel he has more to lose than ever before.

Seriously! I am sure there is a law about leaving stories on a cliffhanger!

Jokes aside though. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your story and I look forward to your next endevour, should you set upon one.

HA! The news clip at the end was awesome. Brilliant. It's I actually pictured it in my head with a music crescendo and everything.

If you ever do decide to follow up on this with one-shots or whatever, I'll be right here to read them.

Aww...Sniff sniff....

Really, that was an awesome story! And ending it with Ron and Hermione\'s wedding...What a great touch. Again, awesome job.

Can\'t wait for those one-shots!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I thought leaving on Ron and Hermione's wedding was appropriate. It's been building for so long.

I'm guessing Dudley killed his parents?

Very great ending. I love having some closure.

Oh, BRAVO, Melinda, BRAVO!
I've been waiting for this epilogue since the day you posted the "last chapter" and - finally - it's here and I've now inhaled the entire story. Once again, your style and your wit with wordsmithing has left me astonished and amazed. I do find myself hoping that you will do a follow-up tale to this one, even if it's just a one-shot, just so you can tell the story of how there is yet another Dark Lord Rising ... or attempting to trod that particular path.

Again, BRAVO and, please, don't hold back if you get inspired to write more tales set in the Potterverse!

Oh, thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think it's more than likely that you'll see some more shorts in this universe. I can't imagine I'll be able to simply leave Harry behind just like that. I had a ball with this story.

Thanks Melinda for a wonderful end to an amazing story! You had so many great touches in this epilogue.
1. One Big Happy Weasley Family - Don't we all love to see that! I had to laugh when I read that line.
2. I loved Harry's interactions with Baby James. It was very heartwarming. I loved quiet moments like that with my girls when they were babies. Sniff!
3. Ginny's "I'll Show You" attitude is so perfect.
4. Hermione as the nervous bride was a hoot! It's like the ultimate exam, and there's so much that she can't control happening. I have yet to go to a wedding where everything went according to plan. However, I'm sure that as long as Molly, Shannon, and Iris keep a sharp eye on the twins, everything will go mostly fine.
5. Ron torturing Snape also had me rolling! I would love to see an outtake with one of those scenes. Any takers out there?
6. The end just gave me the creeps. I guess Dudders finally had enough. Can't say that it made me sad, just gave me the creeps. You really can be evil!
I'm going to miss this story, but all good things must come to an end. Thanks for the great story, and I look forward to more from you in the future.

Oh! Thanks so much for the list! I LOVE it when people give me specifics on what works for them. And, yes, I do love to see a OBHWF ending. Does my heart good. Heh, after the way this story went, I couldn't NOT end on a cliffy, lol.

The Seventh Horcrux
Oh my gosh. I have been seriously dreading this last update email; when I saw it today I was excited as hell, but still depressed. It's now over, isn't it!?! I mean, the weekly new chapters, the fluff, the angst, it's all done now isn't it? -cry-
This chapter completely tied everything together. You included little tidbits about the insignificant characters here and there, and you left us a sizable amount of detail on how Harry's live was post-war. And you included our loveable Drunk!Harry(or at least in mention =D)I especially love that last part, where you had the news article. I can surely see little plot bunnies coming out of that bit =D I can see it now... Dark Wizard Dudley heehee.
Anyways, great job on everything. Once the real 7th book comes out, I'll be thinking of this story, I'm certain of it. Every idea that you wrote in, has been completely believable. I don't know how you could possibly have been able to handle a big move, taking care of a family, AND writing brilliant fanfics. I'll be hoping to see your name in published works in the future, a talent like yours shouldn't go to waste =D
I guess that wraps things up. 10/10 for sure. Thank you again!

Oh, thanks so much. I hope you're right and I'll be able to write an original one. I just don't know if I can ever invent a character I love as much as Harry. I'm glad you enjoyed this last installment - and the brief Drunk!Harry mention. Hee, he's among my favorite things, too.

I loved Harry's happily ever after... although I'm not sure Ginny would be happy working in the Department of Magical Catastrophes...

I loved the little blurb at the end... it sends a right chill down your spine.

i knew you'd set dudley up to be the next dark lord. personally, at this point, i just want a happily ever after so i'm going to ignore it.

i loved harry's interaction with his infant son. so sweet.

alrighty, then. time to start over at chapter one.....
Sunday 12th November 2006 07:16The Seventh Horcrux (Author Response)
Hee, thanks. You go right ahead and ignore it - for Harry it was all happiness. I'm glad you liked James! Harry deserves to get to relive some of his missed childhood through his own kids.

It was Dudley wan't it? Dudley killed his parents...possibly. And I love the father type Harry. His has his way with words, and James sounds too cute. And good for Malfoy. He's getting along.....better? And the Snape idea is great. It sounds like a load of fun telling him all about Harry's success a couple times a year. That's great. And this was a really good story. On of the best I have read on here so far. I'm happy that it is done, but sad at the same time. You know what I mean? Good Job!!!!!!

"Surrey" - that's the correct spelling. Just wanted to throw that out there.

LOVED THE ENDING - how creative! Sounds like someone's following in the footsteps of a certain (vanquished) villian... I liked how everything was fluffy and it suddenly warped into something darker - good manipulation.

Looking forward to more of your canon work! Adele

Oh goodness. Shame on you for leaving a nice cliff hanger in the epilogue!
Now I am wondering if Diddikins killed his parents because they forced him into it by trying to make him "normal" again, or did he do it because he pulled a Tom Riddle?

"Left some playing room" in deed my dear!

Wow, what an ending - Dudley up to no good or did he just finally get sick of his parents? Hmm.

I love reading your epilogues and this was no exception. Harry\'s obvious delight in being a father and wanting to spend almost every minute with his son was beautiful. It was also wonderful to see the obvious bond between himself and Ginny and also that with the other Weasleys. OBHWF indeed.

Additionally, Harry and Hermione\'s interaction was reflective of the true friendship that they have.

Thanks Melinda - good luck with your next project.

"clap, clap, clap" I would do a thousand claps if I could just to show that I'm giving you an ovation for your hard work bringing us "The Seventh Horcrux".
Such a bittersweet end. Meaning, I'm so sad to see it end, but glad to finally get there with such a happy ending.
Wow! watch a twist at the end for the Dursleys. I know you dislike them, so I'm not surprised that you killed them off. I just wished that they could've lived in the same misery they inflicted on Harry for the rest of their lives. Death was too good for them.
I'm glad Snape is living misery ever after in Azkaban. Serves him right. It's too bad he couldn't choose the side of the Light. For someone as smart as he is, he sure was stupid.

Great job Melinda. I'm looking forward to your one shots. I think Harry and Ginny will always be my favorite couple to read. If you ever want to chat about the HP kingdom, add me to your message list on yahoo. deecsmith@sbcglobal.net

Wonderful! A great end to a great story. I will dearly miss the emails saying that "The Seventh Horcrux" has been updated. Now, however, I can read the story start to finish. That's something I've been looking forward to for a long time.

I love your style of writing. A great writer has nothing without a plot but you have the advantage of a wonderfully creative mind for coming up with a plot. So not only can you write well but you have a fully-developed, twisting, turning, and in-depth plot that leaves the reader wanting more. That's a rare gift, indeed. I'm so grateful that you decided to share this with us.

Can I ask just one thing? Would you consider making a PDF of the whole story and posting it on your website? I love being able to have the story all in one piece.

Thank you again for sharing this with us all. It was a joy to read and you have proven once again why your fans are so loyal. You are a brilliant writer and I look forward to whatever story you come up with next. (Though I wouldn't be at all surprised if you took a little time off!)

Cheers,
Felix

Aaww!! Babies and weddings and hugs and all the great stuff of epilogues! Haha. As always, it was wonderfully heartwarming after all the heartbreaks. But no sequel?? You almost got my hopes up for a minute! Still, a one-shot "from time to time detailing some of Harry and Ginny’s trials and tribulations as they build their new life together" sounds marvelous. I can't wait. I really loved this whole story. And I just have to point out, the whole bit with Fluer stealing the spotlight by having her baby on Hermione's wedding day was perfect! Hahaha, I laughed out loud just imagining it. Hee. ^^ What a great ride. I hope for many more to come! And thank you.
