Isn't this Hermione's 18th birthday?
Nice party -- but don't Ron and Hermione bicker at all anymore? even a little bit ?

According to canon, yes, that was her 18th birthday; however, the final pronouncement by JKR on Hermione's exact age wasn't made until after that chapter was written and posted. Since I happen to disagree with the Author on the subject (I think Hermione should have been the youngest of the Trio rather than the eldest), I have no intention of going back and changing it; besides, that would ruin an amusing bit I have planned for a future chapter. So simply file this story under "Post-OotP AU" -- which it is anyway, since HBP and much of its contents have been disregarded.

Similarly, Jo only announced and Percy's birthdays weel after the time when I could have used them, so the former will remain when I want it to be (in this story, anyway), and the latter will not be mentioned, just as it wasn't in canon even when it should have been.

"Ginny's birthday, by some strange cosmic "coincidence", now falls on another significant date which persistent readers will learn in a later chapter."

Let me guess. Ostara.

Possibly Beltane, but that doesn't strike me as too likely, given that the Hunt begins on Beltane. (I have more reason to think it's not Beltane, but that reason refuses to be articulated.) Possibly Litha, but something tells me the story will be over by then. The epilogue may not be, but the story will be. I don't think Litha has any significance at all to this story, beyond the coincidence that that's probably when Sirius died and the Helm woke up. We've already had all the other big festivals. Other than those, I can't think of a single significant date. (Well, Easter maybe, but it's close enough to Ostara anyway, more so if full moon's pretty soon after equinox, and no particular date would be significant very often if its sole significance was being the date of Easter.) So I'm pretty sure it's Ostara.

Here's hoping we get an update soon.

Woot! Cool birthday (and I'll just forget the fact that Ginny's birthday is the first after Harry's, though Hermione's is the first after they return to school).

Cheers!

This is an example of JKR's revelations thoroughly fouling up my plot! Had I known when Ginny's birthday was, I'd have done something with it -- perhaps incorporated it into chapter 5, which takes place at about the right time -- but Jo didn't reveal the date (and that of Percy's birthday, which could also have been a moment for something to happen) until well after that chapter was written and posted. Similarly, she did not finally settle the question of Hermione's age (which I still think is wrong) until long after chapter 7 was done, and that was too important a plot point to discard.

Ergo, since this story is AU anyway (though it was originally intended to follow on from canon up to the end of OotP), I have declared it to be thoroughly AU: Hermione is 17, not 18, and Ginny's birthday, by some strange cosmic "coincidence", now falls on another significant date which persistent readers will learn in a later chapter.

Wait and see...

Aww. That was a really good birthday too. Good job Harry. And Ron and Ginny to. Very good chapter.

Nice party, but I think Hermione will actually turn 18 in her seventh year.  Not that it really matters much, but I'd check the HP Lexicon just to be sure.  I know alot of writers use it as their definitive resource for all things canon.

Randall Garrett? Gag. :)

THis was great. If Harry is going to be set on giving everyone happy memories, I hope you don't smother us with the bad stuff later on. But then again, how can you cast a Patronus without happy memories? Ahh well..

Good work. I'm really enjoying this.
