I'm glad you liked it! This was my first response to DH less than a month after it came out. I *had* to get H/G together as soon as possible. Thanks for reading!

Since Feeling is First
I don't usually review my author's ch's/stories all that often on-site, mostly b/c I've usually said most everything imaginable as we go through the files! But tonight, I re-read this fic for the 1st time in *eons* (maybe even since we'd 1st posted it!), partially b/c I found out today that two of my daughter's friends (who are HP nuts) tend to like H/Hr in fanfic (b/c they read at the "wrong" sites, obviously ), so I was looking for fics to "teach them the error of their ways"... And dang it, Mary, you went and made a hormonal woman cry! LOL!! Gah, this is just pure perfection. Every scene, every emotion is just *perfect* for this part of their lives, and if these kids don't come read it, I'm gonna spank 'em!! (or put 'em in detention w/Filch!!)

Seriously. Your "voice" for Harry and Ginny is just *so* true and so real and so THEM, it's breath-taking. I can't love it more!!
Thursday 31st December 2009 09:24Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
Hee - I'd love to convert a few H/Hrs if possible! You know, I don't think I've read this story since I wrote it. It's not my favorite probably because it was so painful (in a way) to write I'm glad I had a chance to re-read it since I'm working on my other H/G story right now. I'm not keeping a lot of the details from this story, but I do like the emotions of H/G here - how they slowly found their way back to happiness. (Same with the story I'm writing now!) I wish I had it done to send to you right now! I hope to do more this weekend. I think you'll like it.

Thanks again for the review and for *always* being so supportive of my writing. *hugs*

this is a great story! is did have a few problems with it, mostly with the..i dunno...distance between harry and ginny. i didnt fully appreciate the restraunt idea, but the rest was fantasic. i like the size of the story. i dont like short stories that are under 7000 words, and this one was perfect!

Harry was very detatched at the end of DH and I took my cues from the ending (before the epilogue) Hopefully H/G and the Weasleys didn't have such a hard time after the war, but JKR did leave a big mess of issues to address. Thanks for reading!

You write so gloriously optimistically ; it's wonderful. I honestly think you have a gift, Mary, for making people feel better through your writing. I was in need of a pick-me-up tonight and I decided to load PhoenixSong, for the first time in about a year!, on a whim. I found this story while doing a post-DH search and settled in happily.

Fred's star would dance and Tonks' star would twinkle and Remus' star would be difficult to see at first and then would glow brighter as the night wore on . . .

I think that has to be my favourite quote; it captures their characters so perfectly.
Monday 18th August 2008 18:19Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I'm glad this story was a pick-me-up - that has to be the best compliment a reader can give me, since so often that's what I want in a book/story. I know there are a lot of aftermath stories out there - and I think it's because everyone wanted more of a transition from the battle to the epilogue. This was my attempt. Thanks for reading! *hugs*

I haven't written a sequel - JKR is making it too hard to keep up with what the post-Hogwarts world should be. I do have two other H/G stories that take place after this one - Mr. and Mrs. Potter - and Three Trips on the Knight Bus (it's at SIYE) Thanks for reading!

Well, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this story. The end in particular was just beautiful, with Harry and Ginny sitting under the stars enjoying the night and each other's company. It was a really classic scene that was fluffy but realistic at the same time. You did a good job of mixing in the good and the bad, just as what happens in life. One moment we're sad, the next we're laughing at a friend's joke, and the next we're holding hands with someone we love. Great job on the storytelling and thanks for sharing this piece with us!
Thursday 20th September 2007 06:57Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I'm glad you liked it! It was the mixing of emotions that was so hard to portray - getting the balance right. I needed a strong visual of H/G at the end and the meteor showers seemed to be the right scene. Thanks for letting me know what worked.

Much as I have loved reading this story as soon as it came out, I think it is even better in 'one big gulp'. It flows together really well and I agree that St Margarets has nineteen years to keep the saga going.

Any story with Days of Destiny and romantic coffee mugs is dear to my heart. If Harry already has one that says,
'Someone at Hogwarts Loves Me.'
from his birthday last year, he won't have to spend endless hours trying to find one of them to drink coffee out of. But I'd guess Kingsley will give him an assistant to be his "gofer".
Sunday 9th September 2007 18:53Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I'm glad you liked it all at once. It's rather long for a three part story, but I really did need the space to launch all of those ships.

I love to think of Harry looking at his mug. I just know he would, sentimental soul that he is. Thanks for reading - Again!

Fantastic as always Mary. You really do need to continue this on.

I love how you weave all the details of your Potterverse throughout all your stories and nothing seems out of place. I love seeing all my fav's show up in cameo's - Lee, Oliver, Angelina.

Can I start up a chant: WE WANT MORE WE WANT MORE WE WANT MORE .......

Oh, and - Harry's thoughts about "foreign food" were alarmingly perfect. Considering who he grew up with, I suspect Harry would be inclined to regard pasta as "strange foreign food"!

Yes, Aunt Petunia didn't seem like an adventurous cook! Old habits die hard, I guess. Luckily Ginny can get Harry out of his meat-potato-veg diet.

Just lovely. I love forget-me-nots.

One thing that I'd feel bad about if I didn't point out: Harry calls Mr Weasley "sir", which is a big Americanism. Anyway, I really enjoyed this whole thing. You should be proud of it.
Friday 7th September 2007 08:39Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
The sir was a nervous tic. on Harry's part - since he does that in canon, I didn't think it was out of character. (Only people in the Southern US or in the military use "sir" a lot -it's not something you hear from kids or adults north of the Mason-Dixon)
I like forget-me-nots, too! And sapphires.

Since Feeling is First
I've been reading your stories for quite a while, but this is the first time that I review. I really love your stories, but this one really is special, perhaps because it takes all the canon into consideration. All of your stories have made me cry at some point and this was no exception. At least this time you didn't kill anyone, it was JKR I know you have completed this story, but don't you think that you should show us more than how the characters get over Fred's death? Just a thought.

Thank you for sharing this story, you did a great job
Thursday 6th September 2007 13:08Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I'm so glad you did review! And I think JKR killed off quite enough people! I wouldn't want to add to the number.

You're right - it's a long road ahead for some of the characters - George is the longest, I think. And that would require a much longer story. Thanks for reading and letting me know. I appreciate it.

Great ending to the story. The restaurant scene was interesting- particularly the live animals. And the end had me grinning like an idiot in the middle of the law library. I like how you kept this story connected to the Lee Jordan and New Zealand ones. It adds a little something extra, I think. I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Thanks for writing!

I don't know if it shows a lack of imagination to connect all of my stories or not. It makes it easier for me to keep the details straight.

Loved the chapter! Brilliant. I love the first time you say 'I love you' It is so sweet and just so wonderful. And then it gets better and better if you found the right one! And we all know Ginny and Harry are PERFECT for each other!

Also I love how you are able to write so wonderfully. You had a completely different story, yet you are able to write another one, completely different and still add facts that make it undeniably yours. Congrats and having mad skills!

Thursday 6th September 2007 04:06Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
Yes, I think that I love you moment is special and it was nice (in a way) that JKR didn't include it so we could devise our moment in fan fic. That's nice to know I have a style. I just can't resist the normal life details like soap operas and mugs. Thanks for reading!

Beautiful work, as I've come to expect from you. I believe I commented to one of the earlier parts about how nicely you handle the reality of loss; that certainly carries through here. But as I write this, about half a day after reading part 3 and without reviewing it, here's what sticks in my mind: The description of the meal was fantastic (also mouth-watering in places) --- but, having grown up with a mother whose idea spicy food was to use an onion in the beef stew, I was most struck by Harry's first encounter with Indian food. I also liked one thing that was absent from the story: When Harry's gift is so much more expensive then Ginny's, she doesn't get weird about it. Which is as it should be: they're past that.
Thursday 6th September 2007 03:59Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I'm glad some of the last chapter stuck with you - there was so much there that I was worried about overwhelming readers with so much new detail. LOL - I grew up with the same kind of cooking background - so I had to research that restaurant scene.

I want that necklace Harry gave to Ginny - Ceylon Sapphires are gorgeous! And yes, Ginny doesn't have the same hangups about money as Ron does since like you say, they're past that. Thank you for reading and thanks for reviewing. It's very helpful to know what stuck with readers.

This was fan-tabulous! I loved it! What a day!!! It's like the best parts of your fics, all wrapped up! I actually haven't read R&L yet (I was saving it), and it's been a while since LJ, so I'm definitely going to have to go and read them now! *sigh* I know you've got Ron the Builder coming up- is that going to sort-of pick up where this takes off? And since RtB & the NZ Chronicles are rather linked, how are you dealing with the merge? Like is RtB going to be the sequel to NZC or to DH? Sorry to bug you with so many questions you wouldn't necessarily want to answer in a review reply! GAH I LOVE YOUR WORK!
Wednesday 5th September 2007 17:32Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I don't mind answering in a review reply. As far as Ron the Builder goes, I can't use most of it, since JKR's interview - but then she contradicted herself on the webchat - so I don't know what to think. I was thinking I could take parts of the story that I've already written (and haven't posted) and turn into a three part story like this one. So it would follow DH not NZ Chronicles. I'm also thinking about a missing moment and a Hufflepuff fic. So who knows? Of course H/G is still my first love.

Anyway, thanks for reading and thanks for all of your nice comments. They're very encouraging!

Sniff. Aww, bravo, Mary. I sat down to read this already sniffling because I'd just put my youngest on the Kindergarten bus for the first time, and I'm still sniffling at the end. I loved the hints of George and Padma, and really enjoyed Harry and Ginny's stuffy dinner. The part that got to me the most though, was buying a new owl. Sigh. Life moves on indeed.

RIP

Oh, what an emotional day! My son left today for 4th grade, and I'm feeling a little sad since we were together all summer. But that kindergarten first day has to be the worst.

I'm glad you liked Harry buying a new owl - I really think he needed a whole year before he could take that step.

The dinner was fun to think about, but a pain to write, since I don't dine out too often anymore. LOL.

Thanks for reading. I hope you do something for you today. *hugs*

Fantastic as always. There were just too many wonderful happenings in this third installment to give proper comment, but I would like to say how much I thought your Harry and Ginny remided me of your NZ Harry and Ginny and that was very kewl.
I think I may have to read your Roger and Lisa story just for George and Padma. And I enjoyed the little scene between Angelina and Oliver. I can so see that happening.
Life goes on. Even when our loved one has passed on, life still seems to travel forward. George, who is a favorite of mine in the HP universe, seemed like he's coping very well. My heart still breaks for him though. My daughter keeps asking me who I think the mother of George's son, Freddy, is. I think I'll tell her Padma. ^_^
I'm looking forward to more wonderful stories from you in the future.

Up to your usual standard as ever and lots of wonderful references to your own universe as well

A couple of points:

"They're a new, untried team, although Captain Gwenog Jones is back as Seeker."

I could be wrong, but I always thought that she was a Beater not a Seeker.

I also wondered why you used Ceylon rather than Sri Lanka.

Wednesday 5th September 2007 04:45Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
There wasn't anything about her position beyond Captain on the Lexicon, but canon may have mentioned it. Since I needed a Seeker with a name, I gave her that position.

The wizarding world seems to use the "old maps" for place names (Assyria) so I went with Ceylon. At estate sales they do call them Ceylon sapphires - and their gorgeous.

I'm glad you reviewed - I've been worried about you since you deleted your journal.

Thank you for a really marvellous chapter as always

i miss hedwig just as much as Harry, she was a bright owl that provided a great source of comfort & companionship to Harry will he lived with his dreadful aunt, uncle & Dudley. It was really shocking to have read in DH that Hedwig was killed. I'm glad that Harry has another owl, that is unusual, it even has an unusual name Q

it was nice to know that Harry & ginny got to spend their day together. I loved the restaurant, that made me laugh.

the match was entertaining. itwas nice to have read about some very familiar faces as well. I miss Fred, it just doesnt feel right to just say george if you know what i mean, as it has always been Fred & george the two pranksters of Hogwarts

Anyway i hope you keep on writing more fanfic, because you are really good at it. Till your next fanfic Au revoire (ps: mind my sp, in a bit of a hurry)
Wednesday 5th September 2007 04:42Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I was so sad about Hedwig - so I was glad to include her death here - and to find the right owl for Harry now that she's gone. Yes, Fred left a huge hole in the canon universe and I didn't want to disregard it even on H/G's fluffy day. Thanks for reading and for your detailed review!

It's also sort of funny, while I was reading part 3, I was listening to music and the song You're My Best Friend (by Queen) came on as it got to the end when Harry and Ginny exchanged gifts. I don't know if you've heard this song, but it really seems to fit Harry/Ginny quite well

Who knew that a 9500 word chapter could read so easy, heh. The restaurant scene was great, and you're right, the ties between each character are quite intricate and it takes something like Fred's death to really shine a bright light on those ties. The ending almost brought me to tears, I must say. It was the essence of Harry and Ginny. I loved the mug and Harry's description of why he chose the forget-me-not. Great stuff, as usual. :-)

I love all your work!!! You really ought to be a published author (besides on the internet), you are THAT good.

In the A/N of Part One, you wrote that this was a three-part story, but it's still listed as a WIP here in Part 3. Does that mean there will be more than three parts? (I'm hoping you'll answer in the affirmative, since I can't get enough of your fic.) Even if this particular one is over, please keep writing more fic for us, your ardent fans. Excellent story! I really liked the gift that Ginny bought Harry. It was the perfect device to get to the end here. I can't wait for the next story!

I wanted something that didn't cost too much (since the Weasleys really wouldn't have a lot of money after Arthur not working) but was still something Harry wanted and needed. Thanks for reading!

I really enjoyed this chapter! I think you gave a realistic picture of family and friends grieving.

I'm glad you like it! Grieving is not my favorite topic, but it's a part of life and now part of canon. Thanks for reading!

I'm so sad to see this story end. I know that you were very up front about this being a three chapter fic, but........... I really want a fourth chapter! I'm dying to know what is said in the papers about Harry being sited on what was very obviously a date. And how Ginny reacts to being trust into the lime light becaue of it.

Is there any chance of that happening? Maybe a series of one-shots like your other HP-verse? Please. Just think about it. Pretty please!

Bless you, after reading this very long chapter you want more. LOL - Sherry just forgot to change the category. I'm sure I'll want to write more H/G - they're addictive. So I won't say never. And I did set up a lot of threads to be explored, didn't I? Thanks for reading!

This is really an amazing story. I love all the emotions in it and how you included all those characters during the Quidditch match. I like the "twin" connection between George and Padma.. cute It's such a wonderful transition for Deathly Hallows!
Wednesday 5th September 2007 04:26Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I think we all needed a transition from DH! I know I did. My friend, Gabriella Du Sult wrote a beautiful scene where Padma stands with George over Fred's body. I just had to include them in this story. Thanks for reading!

Oh that was a beautiful chapter. The beginning was light and fluffy and funny; and then end was sweet and loving and romantic. It's just so cute, congrats on a job well done!

I'm glad you liked it! I was happy to give H/G a fun day together (and a meaningful night) Thanks for reading.

Oh wow, this was beautifull to read. Thank you. I really enjoy every tear I shed while reading the end of this chapter. And I also think that George and Padma could be a possible couple.

I felt a little teary writing the end of the chapter. I do think H/G deserve a beautiful love story so that makes me happy to hear. George (like Ron) can handle someone intelligent. I just like that pairing. Thanks for reading!

What a marvelous chapter. I really enjoyed your depiction of Harry and Ginny spending their day together. Especially effective were the small touches throughout showing the extent of the havoc caused by Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Each glimpse reinforced the last. The whole effect was very moving. Added to the awkward bits of conversation as they all tried to skate around Fred's death after the match, they provided a somber counterpoint to the fluff of the narrative; a delightful mix of sorrow and joy. This final chapter really elevates the piece as a whole. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

Oh, thank you for all of the specifics in your review! At one point when I was writing this I thought I had so many separate details that I had created quiet a mess. It's hard to counterbalance fluff and geniune angst (that isn't going to change) Anyway, thanks for reading and letting me know what worked.

I admit, when I saw George & Lee together here, for a moment I thought you were going to go the Mapleandmahogany route and have a nice George/Lee pairing.

Alas.

Chaser’s gloves that actually fit her small hands is a wonderful gift. I don't think people realize how hard it is to find gloves that fit when you have childlike hands. I often buy my gloves in children's stores.

Also, the penguins following the goats? HILARIOUS. A stroke of pure genius. I love it. There should *always* be penguins in your stories.

One minor thing--wasn't Edgar Bones the one who was in the Order the first time 'round, and was killed? Or am I misremembering that?
Tuesday 4th September 2007 18:31Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
LOL - I'm glad you enjoyed the penguins. I thought they were fun. Yes, Edgar Bones was one of the Order members. I should have thought of a different name for Susan's dad. Hmm. I might change that so it's not confusing.

LOL - no Lee is taken in my world - although I can see why some people like the pairing. At least they like each other compared to *shudder* Draco/Harry.

Awesome! I can't wait to reread it all in one sitting. You're right about the detail and all the people touched by one life. You brought that out very well by bringing some minor characters back into play. It was lifelike.
Tuesday 4th September 2007 18:22Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
I think this is why it took me so long to write this part - it required a lot of detail and description and I set myself up for a lot of loose ends to tie off. Anyway, I'm glad it turned out okay. Thanks for reading!

I love this story. Actually I love the way you write as a general rule. You do a really great character point of view - kind of like the author Suzanne Brockmann.

This was just excellent. Very worth the wait.
Tuesday 4th September 2007 18:21Since Feeling is First (Author Response)
Oh, that wait. Between vacation and trying to get this right, it was a long delay, I know. I'll have to check out Suzanne Brockman - I've heard of her, but haven't read anything. Thanks for reading and your kind review.
