The Letters of Summer

You had commented before that people thought you were showing the Durselys as too nice, But I think Petunia is spot on.  In OotP, we see more of her character, and how she's v. different from Dudley and Vernon.  So the relationship between Harry and Petunia is exactly what I'm expecting come HBP.

The part with Hermione speaking of her mother's reactions while driving is classic (and very familiar).

The Letters of Summer

So the Letters start and Harry starts getting out from under the funk.

That big letter to Ginny reference drove me crazy! That he started it at school and wasn't finished with it also drove me crazy! I wanted to know what he was saying right then and there. *sigh* suspence.

As nothing came to him, he wrote a short note to Ron, which he sent by Hedwig, both to needle Ron and to give Hedwig an opportunity to visit Hermes.

Hermes is with Percy.

I like Monica Garanger. i like the name and how she is extremely candid and curious of the boys who her daughter calls her best friends. It is amazing we haven't heard from Hermione's parents but I guess they are not essential to the plot. I enjoy greatly that you included them into your story.

I like Harry's answer. It was very mature and foreshadows how your Harry is going to be.

The Letters of Summer

In re-reading this story (in hopes that new chapters will appear before I finish) I am struck again by the wonderful letters that pass between the characters over the summer.  I'd like to think that there is a world in which teens can write such letters.  In them, your characters write to each other in complete sentences, organized into proper paragraphs.  Having seen what passes for writing among teens (and even among recent college graduates) I know that such a world no longer exists.  It makes me appreciate these letters even more.

I thought Harry's response to Mrs. Granger was very much in character.  He is an honest young man, yet he would not reveal information that he judged to be Hermione's prerogative to share.  It was very well done, especially his slight hesitation before shutting the door.

When I was that age, I was sending 7 and 12 page letters to my friends when I was away from home for the summer.  As to today's teens - if you're thinking of public schooled, tv-watching, compter reading kids, probably not, but there is a whole sub-culture of writing teens that do know how to form complete sentences.  One of my favorite authors on this forum is all of 16.

The Letters of Summer

Hi!  Love your story so far - small nitpick though.  Over here you have to be 17 to learn to drive, and Hermione's still 15.  Or possibly not 17 til September.  I can never remember.  Hope the whole driving thing isn't a major plot point!  Heh heh.

Anyway, your story rox (as does PS and SQ, where I'm pretty sure I've seen this too lol).
