Interesting short and quite funny...

P.S You're absolutely right about the dwindling world of HP fanfic... 10 years ago there was soo much and now..

Thank you for the thumbs up! I was really amazed to find someone reading this after so long a time. You can never imagine how much I enjoyed writing it, and it is always a thrill to know someone has found the piece worth the reading.

It is a long time since you posted your review...forgive me, but seeing the HP world of fan fiction slowly dwindle has been a mite hard on me. I found so much enjoyment in the fiction others wrote. Thank you very much for reading it, liking it and letting others know.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review. Yes, I enjoyed writing this more than I can say. Ginny is a unique figure, fragile and yet incredibly strong.

I really enjoyed your story. Too bad we "muggles" don't have those options.

Yes, you are absolutely right. What a different world we could build if we had such options. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and I can assure you that I truly enjoyed writing it. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Love your name! You might enjoy some of my other pieces...they are not many, so it would not be to big an investment of time. I will be posting this on the site as well. I'm driving of a few more chapters, at least two. Wish me luck and thank you for taking the time to review. It has been a big encouragement for me.

WOW! Being a young author i understand the time and effort that writing this has taken. I am currently writing three different story's (not on phoenixsong) and while i cant expect you to feel what i feel while writing i know that for me writing can be slightly stressful when you are not in the world your characters create. so i would like to congratulate you on writing such a wonderful H/G fantasy. While i greatly enjoyed reading this i do with it was slightly longer because for my it ended far too soon.

Well, I am going to try to write two more chapters. That was not part of the original plan, but there has been so much response that what else can I do? Thank you for taking the time to review. What you will find with writing is this: the story --the basic bones-- really writes itself. Honest. Sometimes you sit there dumb as the characters take over. To do something here in Hogwarts, it helps to just think of little pieces of magic all your own...doing that increases the ability to think creatively about magic and suddenly there she is: that big, big bat batting her eyes. I think you might enjoy some of my other pieces, I only have a few so it is no big deal timewise. Again, thanks for reading and enjoying!

I hope to write a sequel, maybe even several chapters. That was not in the original blueprint, but so many have asked, that I feel I should make the effort....which of course could fail utterly. Thank you for reviewing!

Thursday 10th September 2009 23:25Five Times Two (Author Response)
I just love this: that so many found it hilarious, funny, vastly amusing. If you knew how hard I was chewing on my fingernails about writing a piece that was strictly comical. I only have four pieces on Phoenixsong --and none anywhere else-- and while three of them definitely have light spots for laughter, I never thought I could carry off something that was strictly humor...and yet now without a piece of life lesson in it. Thank you for reading. Thank you for reviewing.

What a great story! I can't believe I haven't read it before now. There's nothing like seeing Ginny show her fiesty side now and then. Shame she didn't get to go through with her original plan but I think this impressed Harry more than she knew. It was truly enjoyable reading this. Thanks for the entertainment!
Sunday 4th January 2009 06:31Five Times Two (Author Response)
Well, first of all it is an honor to have such a response from a well known PS author. That is very encouraging. Yes, I love a fiesty Ginny. Only someone with true grit could have struggled as she did in book two...tossing the book down the toliet took a great amount of fighter's blood. I am so glad you enjoyed it.

Screamingly funny, very enjoyable, yet needs to be continued--I would love to see your take on how Ginny finally gets Harry.
Sunday 4th January 2009 06:27Five Times Two (Author Response)
I do hope to continue in hidden moments, but really, can anything beat JKR's own description of how Ginny finally gets her man: right there in front of the whole Gryffindor crowd! Thank you so much for taking the time to review. It really does make a person want to head for the pencil and pad.

thanks for the encouragement! I haven't managed a kiss yet in my small collection of HP fics...but I am moving toward it. Yes, Mrs. Weasley's list: I really would love to develop it sometime. Ginny's own version of lesson in defense against....

Very cute. Always nice to see a missing moment. I belong to the camp (if there is one?) believing Dean did nothing really wrong while with Ginny - he just was not Mr. Right. So the hex was a bit of an extreme surprise, but still quite amusing. Nicely written too.
Sunday 4th January 2009 05:23Five Times Two (Author Response)
Well, many a boy would say that Dean 'did nothing wrong', it just depends on what your personal system is. As an older woman I feel truly sorry for young girls today who have a very nuanced view of what a girl should be pushed down their throats...I'm not so sure we are freer than we were in '67. Thank you for taking the time to review. Since it was my first attempt at humor I really appreciate knowing I didn't fail completely

Natalie, thank you for taking time to let me hear that you enjoyed the piece. While the real reward is always in the doing, I can honestly say that hearing reader's reactions is also a powerful potion. Definitely I feel encouraged to try some more humor.

What a fun story! I especially enjoyed the idea of variations on the bat bogey hex! Characterizations were better than recognizable, and I loved the emotions underlying the horseplay. A fun romp. Keep up the good work!

Thanks so much for taking the time to live a line. It did make my day. Even though I came in at last place (this is the third time I have entered a PS Challenge and the third time I came in last), I feel the piece was successful in that so many found it funny. It is also my first attempt to right humor. Again, thank you.

I love how besotted Harry is and all he can manage to do is smile and um an er about the place - while Ginny's a little more devious in her besottedness - except when her impulsiveness gets the better of her! I love her little whisper to Harry at the end ... maybe she didn't plan it, but I think it did the trick! Well done on a fun and fluffy tale.

Your name fits you: a lady to the very heart. Thanks for the encouraging review. Yes, I tried to be faithful to JKR’s characterizations. It is a package deal in my understanding of fanfiction: writing in the form and spirit of the one admired. Making something new yet totally organic vis a vis the original. Thank you for taking the time to review.

Oh dear, I am afraid you will be disappointed when you read the other three pieces I have posted here. This was my first go at humor. Actually, this was my first piece of fanfiction, written on a wave of high irritation when a favorite author turned the the common room into a….. Best left unsaid. There is some humor in two of the other pieces, but the third is as poignant as this is funny. I loved the smiley you used. It means a good deal that others enjoyed it.

Thanks, Dad, for reviewing. Uh, I think my own Dad would have also liked it. Most appreciated is the remark that it is ‘well-written’. Whenever I finish a piece I am torn between amazement and consternation. Two different ways to say: “I wrote that?”

This was more of a get Dean than it was a get Harry. No matter. It was a quite enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing.
Sunday 16th November 2008 02:48Five Times Two (Author Response)
Well, it wasn’t so much get Dean per se as ‘get them’ piece. Before the humor there are some rather old memories of frustration at being abased into an object. I don’t think people really realize how impoverished young girls are anymore: brain-washed by the media and advertising to have a negative image of themselves as being nothing more than a toy…. But, oh, I think she really got Harry because she showed him who he is and who she is…. Thank you so much for reviewing. Once I started writing, I suddenly learned what those reviews mean for the writer. Especially the losing type…writer, I mean!

Well, I think anyone who as 2057 reviews is amazing. Do you realize how many smiles you have give others with those reviews? As I mentioned in one of my replies, I have entered PS Challenges three times and three times come out at the bottom of the list. The true reward, of course, is in the joy and challenge of writing, but the second for such as I is definitely in the reviews. Thank you so much!

Monday 24th November 2008 10:21Five Times Two (Author Response)
Your review meant a great deal....after all, you have written more than 150 reviews! You would deserve a response for that alone. The use of the wand came about through a bad reaction to the abuse of that word in HP fanfiction. Beneath all the humor there was an older woman sighing for the days that one could create laughter without the blatant sexism. Thanks!

Simply amazing! I think I truly forgot to breathe properly because I was laughing my butt off on the floor, and I can no longer see clearly because my eyes were moist and fogged up with tears of hilarity! Kudos!

Well, my cheeks are bright pink. Since this is my very first attempt at humor, I was very nervous if it would even make any reader smile, much less laugh. That was amazing! Wonderful job. I know exactly how the Gryffindor girls feel. It would be great to have that list of hexes. Not that I would use them ...

Great writing and imagery, wonderful characterisation as well, though I would have loved to have heard more of Harry's thoughts in the latter portion.

Regardless, well done! You had me smiling and giggling and trying my best not to laugh out loud in the campus coffee shop, to preserve my dignity and not tip everyone else off to the fact that I'm not working.
Sunday 16th November 2008 03:28Five Times Two (Author Response)
First on my list: I am having an amazing time discovering that most of my reviewers are people who also have stories posted here. Which means I have a good stack of reading hours before me: many happy minutes to come. Your review is so satisfying: personal identification, technical comments, and that you found my first attempt at humor funny. I enjoyed the 'picture' of a college student reading something I wrote while sipping her coffee at campus shop. Thank you for taking the time to review...every moment counts for a student, so it was real gold.

I truly enjoyed this story. I found myself cheering, "Go, Ginny, Go!" as she hexed Dean and threatened to do the same to Seamus. As for Professor McGonagall helping with the "Ten Ways" list, I can only imagine what number ten is. I'm very glad Ginny had the courage to tell Harry that he was Gryffindor's other gentelman.

and best wishes with the contest.
Sunday 16th November 2008 03:14Five Times Two (Author Response)
Arnel, I have just been clicking around on reviews and I am amazed how many of them are by PS authors, including yourself. Somehow that give an extra boost to the review...someone who has been there, struggling over paper. Yes, I enjoyed Ginny's ecstasy, the hidden dream of every young woman to give some appropriate payback when she is treated as an object rather than a person. Thank you so much for reviewing...and I will be visiting your pieces soon!

Wow! The descriptions were memorable.

This made me laugh-
The original name is: How to Transform Them into Gentleman in Ten Easy Lessons. Mum calls it, ‘What to do when they treat you as if you were a scarlet woman’.
Monday 24th November 2008 10:17Five Times Two (Author Response)
Yes, I laughed too when I wrote the line about 'scarlet woman'. I could just hear Mrs. Weasley say it. And given the wonderful piece you are writing from Mum's perspective, I feel all the more honored that you liked it. You have Mrs. Weasley's pulse! Thank you for your review; I did work hard on the descriptions since witty lines are not my strongest point. Part of growing up with my nose plastered to the television.

Well, you are the first to review my story, and I ask you to forgive me for being so long in responding. Life is a mite like that common room: one big swirl as the bat beats her wings on and on.
