That Muted Sort of Longing
I love this story! I signed up at this site just to review it because I saw that you had only a few comments, even though your story is really, really entertaining. Your writing is so enjoyable.. I love that you devote the perfect amount of space to each topic and it all just flows instead of stopping and starting clumsily. There's no unnecessary prose or flowery descriptions that make the story more tedious than anything else. It's real life, written down.

That Muted Sort of Longing
Dear Serendipity,

I came very close to hating Harry in this chapter. I just wanted to throttle him. I almost didn’t write that, because I don’t want you to misunderstand my reaction. I’m enjoying this story tremendously, and it’s sort of a back handed compliment that I felt such a strong emotion from something you wrote, but ARGGGH! How could he not invite Ginny, after she named the blasted group, and was such a huge part of the ministry trip. Uh-I’m getting aggravated just thinking about it. She really should have hexed him. (And don’t tell me that he doesn’t know how she feels about him. Two words-cold shower. He should show some consideration based on what he feels as well. I’m ranting, sorry.)

Now onto my regularly scheduled review. (Hope I haven’t scared you. Grin.)

I enjoy the byplay of the familiar class, and the scenes of each animal going through their obstacles. It was interesting to see Ginny run through different ways to communicate to Maeven, and its nice to see Gin and Susan gossip about boys. One of my favorite parts was Ginny’s inner monologue on Snape. Her love for Neville and Sev’s work with the headmaster making realize he has some positive aspects.

I smiled when I read about the tryouts. THIS is the side of Harry I wanted to see. Supportive of his friend, standing up for her, looking adorable in his quidditch kit, why couldn’t this have carried over?

Instead, I get defensive, Cho supporting, snarky Harry. If I hated the way Harry behaved at dinner, I fell in love with Neville. For such a mild mannered boy to stand up for her, and save her from the embarrassment of crying in the great hall, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Luckily, Susan and Luna understand what a rotten thing Harry did, and Ginny did get her relief in tears. I wouldn’t have been able to sleep either.

Since the last two chapters ended positively, I should have been prepared for pain and angst. I wasn’t. It was brilliantly done though. I just wish I could understand his reaction. As always, I enjoyed reading, and now am invested into getting to the bottom of Harry’s behavior. Thanks for sharing your work online.

All the best,
Pix’ellie
