Harry slowly opened his eyes. He blinked as the sunlight filtered through the leaves in the tree above him. A small breeze had started sometime in the past hour when he had been dozing. Any breeze was a relief, considering the heat of the day. Squinting into the sky, he saw the previously clear sky had now become scattered with clouds.
Bloody summer he thought. At least he was at the Burrow and had been for three glorious weeks. His mind drifted back to previous summer holidays, so different to the one he was enjoying now.
Or would be enjoying, if I wasn't so hot.
Trying to find a more comfortable position, he rolled over onto his side. His shirt was stuck to his back, and with the change in position, sweat slowly trickled down, loosening the fabric as it went. With a sigh he sat up, and quickly pulled the T-shirt over his head, throwing it to the ground by his side.
That's better.
Harry looked around him. The continual oppressive heat of summer, had forced him from the house, where not a whisper of air seemed to circulate. Earlier in the day, he had found a quiet, shady spot near the pond. To him it was perfect - unseen from the house, away from prying eyes. He had hastily organised a small picnic lunch, filled a bottle with water, and grabbed a soft rug from the hallway cupboard. Halfway out the door, he turned back, to pick up the cushion off the chair.
Might as well do it in style.
The food in the bag was long gone. A combination of a full stomach, the stillness of the surroundings, and the heat had made him drowsy, and he had fallen asleep. On wakening, he realized that his mouth was parched. Rustling through his bag, he found the water bottle, and took a mouthful.
There is something else in that bag.
Harry reached into the bag, and felt around the bottom. He couldn't remember putting anything else in, but was sure that he had heard a noise when he was looking for his water.
Oh, I wonder what this is.
Hmmmm......chocolate frogs.
Harry began to reminisce about his first train ride to Hogwarts. For once he'd had money in his pocket. Money he had been itching to spend. Sure, there were no Mars Bars, but this weird chocolate frog thing was the first chocolate that he had eaten that was from the magical world. His world.
Harry smiled as he thought back. Ron had said they only had one good jump in them.
Wonder how far it will jump in this heat.
He peeled the wrapper. The frog, a little sluggish with the heat, took a half-hearted leap into the air. While he watched it fall, Harry moved his hand to catch it. He was going to miss. It was like slow motion, and there wasn't a thing he could do about it. The frog landed not on his hand, but on Ginny's back. Ginny, who still remained asleep on the rug next to him. The frog rested next to the thin strap of her shirt, and as he watched, it gradually began to slide as she breathed. Just when he thought it could hold on no longer, it took another leap, and landed in the dirt.
Well, I won't be eating that now.
Harry looked back at where the frog had sat on Ginny. There was a streak of chocolate on her shoulder, the melted remains of the frog's pads. With a smile, he leant over and softly touched it with the tip of his finger. Ginny stirred, rolled onto her back. She smiled back at him, then glanced at the wrapper which remained in his hand.
"So you found the chocolate did you? Plan to share?" she asked.
"I already have."
