"There was Ginny running toward him; she had a hard, blazing look in her face as she threw her arms around him. And without thinking, without planning it, without worrying about the fact that fifty people were watching, Harry kissed her."
"The creature in his chest roaring in triumph, he grinned down at Ginny and gestured wordlessly out of the portrait hole. A long walk in the grounds seemed indicated, during which - if they had time - they might discuss the match." - HBP pp. 449 UK edition

"Mmmmmm," Ginny said, as she and Harry clambered out of the portrait hole.
"What was that?" Harry asked, bewildered.
"Did you know you're a really good kisser, Harry? Who have you been practicing with?"
Her tone was not accusing; more like light and playful, almost teasing.
"Ginny, you know perfectly well the only other person I kissed in my life was Cho Chang," Harry stated mock-defensively. Then said as an afterthought, "And she was crying at the time, so it wasn't exactly the greatest experience of my life."
"I know." Ginny giggled. "You must have been a really sucky kisser to make her cry. You've improved though. And that's a compliment." Harry opened his mouth to speak.
"Gin, I've been over this with 'Mione already. She was just depressed, that's all. I couldn't have been that bad!" he said anxiously. Ginny giggled again.
"No, you weren't. Hermione's smart. She knows all about emotions." They reached the doors to the grounds, and went out into the sunlight. As they worked their way to the lake, they walked in comfortable silence. As Harry was debating what to say, Ginny spoke up.
"Where does this leave our relationship then? You know, we can't kiss and then just expect to maintain a platonic relationship. Unless you want us to". Ginny said, trying to sound casual. She wasn't pulling it off.
"Gin, you know I want to be with you. Don't get all anxious that I don't. I've been thinking about you all year, and debating on whether or not it was safe to get on your brothers' bad side. Gred and Forge won't be fun to deal with" Harry let his voice trail off, and Ginny chuckled.
"You have a point there, Potter. Do you mind if I call you Potter?"Ginny asked, grinning. "It sounds more sexy than Harry."
Harry decided to uphold the pretense of being offended. "Oh, just plain Harry isn't good enough for you, is it?" he teased.
"Oh, trust me Harry. You're definitely good enough for me." Harry blushed. "You look really handsome when you blush you know." Harry grinned.
"Why thank you. I think you look rather good when you blush too. You've done it enough in front of me." It was Ginny's turn to blush now, but she tried to act tough.
"Really? You want me to start freaking out every time you get near me?" Harry looked at her.
"I think not. I like the new Ginny a lot better than the old one. But I wouldn't mind if the new Ginny blushed sometimes." Ginny smiled.
"I'll make sure I keep that in mind. Anyways, we're getting off topic" Ginny stopped walking, and Harry stopped, too.
"How about let's make this official." Harry said. "Ginny, will you be my girlfriend?"
Ginny laughed, stood on tiptoe, and kissed him long and hard. "Yes Harry, I will. And will you, Harry, be my boyfriend?" They started walking along the edge of the lake again, watching the giant squid swirling about just under the surface.
"Gin, why in the world would I ask you to be my girlfriend if I didn't want to be your boyfriend?" Harry said, looking vaguely amused.
"I take that as a yes, then?" Ginny snickered.
They were almost to Hagrid's hut by now. Harry could see him tending to his vegetable patch with Buckbeak, no, Witherwings, at his heels.
"Yes, Ginerva Molly Weasley, you can take that as a yes." Harry replied solemnly. They both stopped walking again. They had reached a big birch tree by the shore of the lake. Ginny sat down, and Harry followed suit.
"Harry?" Ginny said. "Do you really think Fred and George will try to hurt you?"
Harry snorted. "Ginny, what do you think? You're their younger sister. They'll be out for my blood." Ginny chortled, then settled against Harry's chest. Harry assumed that they were going to be here for a while, and decided that he better get comfortable.
"Do you think having a steady relationship will be really change our lives that much?" Ginny said inquiringly, looking up at Harry's face.
Harry smirked. "Well, we'll be able to snog in public, won't we?"
Ginny thwacked him upside the head, but was smiling all the same. "I wasn't talking about that, you wart plaster!" Ginny grated out, giggling. "But yes, we will, I suppose so." Ginny sighed. "You know what I meant though, Don't you?" Ginny had a don't-play-with-me look on her face, and Harry decided to stop teasing, just in case Ginny had been working on her Bat-Bogey Hex lately.
"I suppose you might hang out with Ron, Hermione, and I more, and I'll get to know your friends." Harry started. But Ginny interrupted him.
"Trust me, I don't even like my friends that much. I'ld rather waste time with you guys."
"Gin, I thought you wanted me to answer your question?" Harry said exasperatedly.
"Well," Ginny replied haughtily, "I've changed my mind. I'd rather snog you senseless. We might as well, since no ones watching." Harry grinned. How could he refuse?
He leaned down, Ginny leaned up, and that was the last either of them said for a long, long time.
