Harry Potter and the Sword of Gryffindor
Fun! There are times, particularly earlier in the story, when some characters either seemed OOC, or came to a realization faster than they likely should. Other than that, though, it's great!

Thanks for the review! Please bare in mind that this was conceived before HBP so some things might be a little different. Also, I needed to develop some characters very quickly because I wanted to utilize them to a large degree in the story, especially Ginny. My take on Ginny in this story is a little bit different from some of our other authors. I still wish JKR would have developed and used her to a greater degree! She can be a very fun character to play with. And of course there was Moody. I wanted to add quite a bit more to his character; make him a bit more sinister (a la Batman The Dark Knight) and give motivation to his actions.

I do plan to update, but it may still be a while. I'm engaged to be married in December so other things have priority at the moment. Cheers!

Please, Please, please, update this...it doesn't look like it has been updated for sucha long time!

I know...I know... I meant to start work on the next chapter last fall, but I had to move and then I fractured my wrist immediately afterward. It just wasn't my season! I will try and update some time this spring. Chapter 15 is extremely rough. Chapter 16 is almost ready to go, though (don't you hate a tease? ).

Thanks for the kind words. Just give me some time to get back into the story. HBP and then the quick arrival of DH knocked me off-track.

Glad you enjoyed it! Sorry for the lack of updates - reality has been running me over. I'm not planning to abandon the story, but it might be another couple of months before the next update.

Sorry it's been so long - reality has been running over me. I haven't given up or anything like that, I just haven't had the time to devote the needed hours to the story and I hesitate to just dash something off and post it. I want the quality of the story to remain consistent. Also, I'm doing the single dad thing now and my little treasure is eating up all of my time! I will try and post soon. Thanks for understanding!

You are doing an amazing job on this. I adore Harry/Ginny as a pairing, just because they seem to balance each other out (Harry is more serious and sullen, and Ginny is more tempermental and cheery). Please update this as soon as you can.

Excellent, excellent.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad to see you're enjoying the story. Please bear with me on the updates, though. RL has been hammering me and the updates aren't coming as quickly as I (or anyone else for that matter) would like. Thanks for reviewing!

In the play where Ginny blocks Ron so that Demelza can score, Ginny would have committed a Quidditch foul called Stooging -- only one chaser is allowed in the scoring area (Quidditch through the Ages, pp. 25-26, 30.
Interesting bit with Harry's eye color; so then Voldemort's (or at least Tom Riddle's) eyes should be green, shouldn't they?
Monday 8th January 2007 09:38Harry Potter and the Sword of Gryffindor (Author Response)
"A foul is only a foul if the referee is watching." (Slytherin Team Captain's handbook - on loan from Remus Lupin and don't ask me how he got it )

As far as Tom Riddle's eyes go - I'm not sure about the answer to that one. The reason I picked on Harry's eyes is that it is continually mentioned in the canon. JKR has got to have something up her sleeve; I'm just not sure what it is. Thinking on it a bit more, it is stated in the canon that Harry and Tom do look somewhat alike, although nothing more specific is stated. Perhaps Tom's eyes are green. Getting back to Harry - it is constantly mentioned that he has his mother's eyes and that they are green. I can understand the emphasis on his mother's eyes because I think that although he looks like his dad, he has his mother's heart. But why green? Why not brown or amethyst or sapphire blue? Why emerald green? I guess we'll just have to wait until JKR decides to let us know.

Thanks for the review! I covet feedback, especially feedback with questions. Also, sorry for the Quidditch mistake. I'll have to add Quidditch Through the Ages to my reading list...

Wow. So Harry is an heir of Gryffindor and Slytherin?! Wow. Very good chapter. I can't wait to read more.

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah - that's my take on things. At least it would explain issues like Harry's gift of Parseltongue and it ties in nicely with what Hermione said in CoS about Harry not being sure of whether or not he was related to Salazar. That's one of the fun things about the Harry Potter series - with all the red herrings and minute detail out there you can go lots of ways with your fanfiction.

For instance, given Dumbledore's low regard for divination and prophecy, why should Tom Riddle/aka Lord Voldemort hold it in high regard? Perhaps he heard the prophecy and decided to look into the backgrounds of the two children born on that date. Or, perhaps he had already done that and the prophecy itself was merely stating what was going to pass without being a factor in its passing (in opposition to the Greek school of prophecy in literature that uses the prophecy as a means of driving the action). The issue of Harry being Heir to Slytherin provides an alternate explanation for him being a target without making the prophecy any less real, but removing it as a driving force to the story. There are lots of fun ways to play with this!

Thanks for taking the time to review!

Well, that was an interesting chapter. Any good reason Harry's keeping it all from Ron and Hermione? And when - WHEN - will Harry and Ginny stop dancing around each other? Next chapter? Please?

Oh, well. Good job!
Wednesday 3rd January 2007 11:17Harry Potter and the Sword of Gryffindor (Author Response)
Harry is keeping this from Ron and Hermione because he needs to come to terms with it first. Of course, it's not going to work out that way (hint, hint).

And that dance between Harry and Ginny, erm, it's going to continue for a while. Sorry about that. My take on H/G was that it would take a while for Harry to wake up and notice Ginny. Of course, on the bright side, as opposed to HBP, in this A/U version of book 6 Harry at least asks her out at the start of the school year rather than waiting toward the end of it. That gives me all year to play with the two of them. Heh, heh...

Thanks for reviewing!

Hank,

I really enjoyed the chapter, especially how you tied Harry to both Salazar and Godric. It is also great to have a new chapter from you. If I remember, it should only be a couple more chapters until we see Harry and Dumbledore meet. I really can't wait to see that! Also, when will we see Harry's Quidditch ban be reinstated?

Keep up the good work and I hope that you can update soon!

Sal,

Thanks for the review and the kind words! Harry and Dumbledore will meet both at the beginning and the end of chapter 16. It will be wild - I promise! That said, I have to finish chapter 15, which isn't going to be easy. I was expecting some down time over the Christmas/New Years break, but I didn't get any. On the bright side, I did manage to flesh out chapter 15 which was very good. I was worried about that chapter, but it looks like it's going to be fine once I get some time.

Harry's ban will be reinstated in the next chapter. It's going to be ugly and will bring the story to a tight focus. Everyone will be flaming me about Dumbledore, but don't worry - it will all work out by the end of chapter 17. I've even got a cliffhanger planned for 16 (which will be, of course, dedicated to that queen of evil cliffies Melindaleo!). So hang tight. I will try and get the next two chapters out as soon as possible.

Happy New Year, it's nice to see you back. How about a resolution? At least one chapter a month I'm delighted to see Demelza join the team, and I'm glad you're keeping Kirke and Sloper. This is a post-OotP story, so it doesn't have to follow HBP exactly

You've found a way to work out your Slytherin angle, although I remain adament that the Sorting Hat suggested Harry for ALL the houses, it was Harry, not the hat, that focused on Slytherin. The green eyes was amusing - of course I don't think anyone ever mistook Ron for belonging in Ravenclaw with his blue eyes, lol.

Thanks Melinda! I would love to live up to that resolution, but I have a feeling my 6-year-old will have something to say about that. He seems to think my world revolves around him or something like that.

Kirke and Sloper will stay. I used Demelza because it was an easy fit and it saved me from having to think up a new name. Hey, why reinvent the wheel?

I was a stinker with the Slytherin angle, wasn't I? I know; I know. Let's just say we agree to disagree. Of course, if we didn't, all of our stories would be exactly alike and it wouldn't be as much fun to read fanfiction.

Chapter 16 is coming. I've even got an evil (REALLY evil) cliffie I'm going to dedicate to you. I think you're going to enjoy it. Thanks for reviewing and have a Happy New Year!

Excellent work on this chapter. The libary sceene was not easy but you did really well.
Wednesday 3rd January 2007 11:44Harry Potter and the Sword of Gryffindor (Author Response)
Thanks for the kind words! The library scene was tricky - I had written it quite a while ago and after a series of comments from JKR I had to go in and revise the entire thing. I had to get rid of any reference to Mark Evans; somehow fix things that Harry wasn't a direct descendent of Voldemort yet still be somehow related to him; and then I had to try to figure out what to do with Petunia. JKR never came clean about her. Whenever she was questioned whether Petunia was a witch or a squibb she would always say 'no' to both and then fudge things politely, so I just decided to stick with Petunia being a squibb. What can I say? Thanks for reviewing!!!
