It was absolutely impossible. There was no other way to describe it. How could it happen to both of them on the same day? Ginny had started first, with Hermione mere minutes behind her. Even the doctors that were bustling about were amazed at the turn of events. How was it possible that they had both gone into labor on the same day and at almost the same time!
Nervously Harry and Ron paced back and forth. Both had been banished to the waiting room by the doctors who realized early on that neither man was suited for being in the delivery rooms. Instead, they paced around in circles at the Burrow. Arthur Weasley was there, as was Harry's godfather Sirius Black. Mark and Sophie Granger were on their way and would be there within minutes. Owls would be sent to Albus, Hagrid, Fred, George, Percy, Charlie, and Bill as well once there was news to report.
"Dad – how can you sit there so calmly?" Ron asked as he continued his frantic pacing around the room.
Chuckling, Arthur looked at his youngest son. "You forget Ron, I've gone through this seven times with your mother, twice with Bill, once with Charlie, and 4 times with Percy. I'm used to the insanity by now."
"Any advice Arthur? I think Ron and I are both about ready to go completely mental from all this waiting!" Harry tried his hardest to walk a hole in the floor next to Ron's. "It's this whole business of not knowing that's driving me out of my mind right now!"
"Would it help if I said ‘be patient' Harry?" A look of muted frustration answered that question for him rather quickly.
Arthur Weasley had to chuckle at the anguish of the two men in front of him. He had been there many times himself and he knew that it certainly didn't get any easier as time went on. He had counseled patience, but he knew exactly how impossible that was under the current circumstances. Even though these would be his sixth and seventh grandchildren, he still felt a certain thrill himself at the prospect of once again holding a tiny life in his arms once again. He also had to swell with pride as his youngest son and his only daughter were about to become parents. Soon, they too would know the "joy" of 2 a.m. feedings, changing diapers, and trying to get an uninterrupted night's sleep. Arthur promised himself he wouldn't laugh too much when the new parents came to him with this news.
Arthur's wife, Molly, went back and forth between the two rooms to do what she could to help the two soon-to-be-mothers. Every couple of trips she stopped in the waiting room to assure the two panic-stricken young men that their wives were indeed fine and that things were progressing normally. Finally, she stood in the doorway and looked at the two men and announced that they could go meet their children.
Harry stumbled back out of the room where Ginny had given birth just as Ron stumbled out of the room across the hall where Hermione was. They looked at each other in stunned shock.
"T … t … twins!! She had twins!" Harry's said in an awed voice.
"So did Hermione!" Ron's voice was covered in wonder.
The two men embraced each other then both promptly fainted.
Arthur looked down at the two of them and with a clinical note in his voice, muttered. "Amateurs."
The End
A/N: And so the journey comes to an end. I hope I've managed to amuse you while reading this, while hopefully not drowning you in a sea of fluff. Thanks to my beta Jack for helping me chop this beastie up into reasonable pieces, thanks to Imogen for helping me get it published, and thanks to everyone who's left me reviews.
